    Here is a slightly new look to Affro's Curiosities EX & my video on how PS2 games fare using PCSX2!
    The version of the emulator used was V2.1.18 & recorded on July 18th!
    The goal was to see if the games worked & I wanted to use minimal enhancements so native resolution was used & thankfully the games still look good!

      Really? AMD has bad OpenGL support, it's gotten better but it should still be slower than Vulkan. I find that hard to believe it performs better. Did you run benchmarks between the two?

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial

      I sure have and the performance is usually the same but in games like Gran Turismo 4 or even Tekken 4, I found OpenGL was much more stable whereas Vulkan dropped frames :)
      Granted on more powerful systems the difference could favour Vulkan but on the Steam Deck, OpenGL is still better for speed & performance :)
      I've had the Steam Deck for nearly two years & I always switch between the two to see if anything changes :) OpenGL is the go to but you can always try Vulkan if you prefer it :)

      @@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial Ok thanks for the info. I don't own a deck. Someday when I do I will test it. Waiting for a higher refresh rate deck with VRR and OLED. I want the ultimate deck! Fingers crossed it will happen some day.

      I'm now waiting for Valve to make a true Steam Deck successor before I part with my current LCD one but, I do love it & I still recommend it to anyone!
      But yes, I hope a second generation Steam Deck will have big gains in performance, compatibility & battery life!

      No problem, now you can see how it looks and how it performs, at least using native resolution :)
      I would also suggest trying 2x rendering for 720p, make sure any supported game is put in 480p progressive scan mode & make use of the EE Cycle Rate overclock to iron out slowdown in certain PS2 games :) 180% should do the trick!

    Zone of the Enders 2 used to have severe problem during a very late part of the game where you have a massive battle on a large open field. There are a lot of friendly and enemy AI's on the screen. I used to get memory errors every time I get to this part. I never managed to finish this game on PC, but later played the remastered version on xbox 360 instead.

      Hmmmmm, I guess if I ever complete or try to complete the game, I'll see if the same occurs to me :o

      Ah, the emulator has improved a lot now so I think the issue is solved :)

  • @everx7

    U definitelly should push the emulation to a next level. But with mostly OpenGl at ur disposal it might be hard to squeeze a better result out of the games, but who knows.
    I was also surprised that GoW on A52s 5g can run hw native without too much issues. Kingdom hearts 2x and no issue. It all comes down to the games and how hard is to emulate them. Some are lightweight like Kingdom Hearts some are heavy like GT4 or even GoW but if u can do GT4 i think all games should be good to go. Vulkan would be the ideal renderer nowadays, but well if it runs worse then opengl on SD. I use Vulkan and so far its been great. Not on SD though so theres that.
    Eventually in the end u decide whether if its a fun idea to make thsi video happen. Hope u do decide yes.

      I just wanted to show people the PS2 games actually work & now if people want, I'm more than happy to push the Steam Deck with higher res & even overclocking via the EE Cycle Rate :)
      I'll also use tougher games like God Of War II :)

    Nooooooo! Man, why are you using openGL?
    You are just capping the full power of the system with that. Try vulkan, bro, that's a native library with the deck. With that i'm sure you'll be capable to scale to 720 or even 1080 the games

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial

      I've used both renderers for years & on the Steam Deck. OpenGL has always been the more reliable performer for me :)
      Usually Vulkan does work but I noticed there's frame drops more often as opposed to OpenGL in my experience, that's why I always recommend people use that first when using PCSX2:)
      Of course everyone has different systems & maybe on your personal system Vulkan could work better, but OpenGL does the job & this video was not about pushing the system anyway :)
      It was just showing people the PS2 games actually work :)
      I'm more than happy to make a video on both renderers to see which work best for the Steam Deck running PCSX2!

  • @satan7481

    I don't know why but pcsx 2 2.0 runs worst on my SD. Replacement textures don't load and some games that were running fine before became laggy. It used to be easily able to play 3x upscaled smoothly.
    I reverted my version to 1.7.5663 to be able to load my replacement textures and speedup

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial

      Hmmm, I haven't had any issues or performance issues on my Steam Deck, although I always run the newest build of PCSX2, might be worth revisiting a new build in the future :)

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial

      Vulkan performance was not as fast as OpenGL, this gave me the fastest speeds :)
      You can try Vulkan if it works better for your personal system but, OpenGL has and still is my go to where available :)

      @@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial That's very very strange. Something must be up.
      PCSX2 is notorious for having problem with GPU pinning. Try locking the frequency to 1400 or 1600.

      I did try this trick & sadly it only seems to make the game run worse xD
      I think I may need to make a video testing the two renderers on Steam Deck to see which is best!

    Dont know how you can say a game runs perfect when you show it running so sluggishly, looks like 15fps or so. Looks horrible.

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial

      If the footage was from my camera, it was shot at 24fps (All of it) and not indicative of what was on screen :)
      My camera has no 60fps mode in 4K so only use the captured footage to gauge the quality of the emulation on Steam Deck :)

    • @OhNoseNotAgainn

      @@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial no need for 4k 60fps. But at least not make the games look like they runs at snail speed which for certain clips like racing games I wouldn't call 15fps playable. just record at 1080p on your camera or something. Shocking to showcase gameplay running like that on a showcasing video and blame the camera for 24fps recording.

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial

      Again I recorded the gameplay properly via capture as you saw :)
      Next time yes I'll try to record at 30 or 1080p 60 if I must but the frame rate from the camera is not indicative of how it looks on the Deck :)
      Many people record at 4K30 or 4K24 so I'm not the only one :)
