    Well here we go! A video talking about PS2 games I feel look great despite only using interlaced video output! (480i or 576i for PAL games)
    I was using RGB SCART cables via the Sony Official RGB SCART Cable & I set my OSSC to passthrough mode!
    Deinterlacing was handled by OBS's Yadif 2x setting! Hope you enjoy & let me know what other games could be included in a video like this!

    Oh my eyes ! That Need for Speed Most Wanted ! Great video :)

      Sadly, it has no progressive scan on PS2, but it still looks great despite being interlaced only :)
      Thank you!

    I dont think Champions Of Norrath and Return to Arms use pre rendered assets. Everything is rendered real time. Granted, the floor loads in tiles but I believe its all pure polygons. Impressive none the less and I'm glad you featured it as its a notorious game for PS2 emulation to get right and its interlacing is still a nuisance today.

      Ah I had not thought of it as title based! That's very interesting :)
      I guess that also explains why it would be hard to emulate since it I presume had to have the CPU do all sorts of interesting instructions making it hard to emulate :)
      Defiantly underrated!

    THPS3 (along with the rest of the series) runs on the RenderWare engine, which plays very well with the GSM selector, or at least the US version does, 480p 60fps. The Burnout and GTA games also use this engine.

      @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'll have to try them all again since I thankfully own the games :)
      There is a PAL 576p version in GS Mode Selector so, it should work the same, in theory :)

      It will always be my preferred way. But sometimes i get a pesky mood and only want to get the sharpest picture possible from my consoles so i play them on my lcd tvs, with some good picture calibration settings and is not that bad looking at all.

      This video and many others on my channel were captured using the OSSC line multiplier upscaler in passthrough mode or other settings depending on the console and game tested :)
      So you've already seen the results watching this video, at least of passthrough mode :)

    growing up playing these games, i never thought they were graphically impressive, i always thought they were just ps2 games, which is what it is.

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial
      @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @SDRIFTERAbdlmounaim I think they are in my opinion & they push the hardware in someway although they are limited by interlaced video output :)

  • @jsr734
    @jsr734 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Looking good here. Certainly, your way of capturing interlaced video sources has greatly improved. There is still some extra jagginess in some places, and the 50hz/50fps doesn´t help neither but everything looks sharp and well defined.
    I have tryed the PAL version of Gran Turismo 4 and yes, it only supports 50hz and not 480p or 1080i as the NTSC versions but taking into account that GT4 renders the 480p and 1080i picture in 16 bit color depth with some dithering and banding, the Normal 480i/576i picture at 32bit color depth looks smoother and at least the PAL release also use the extra 512 vertical resolution to fill more of the screen area in a PAL screen.
    I have also noticed that enforcing 480i or 576i output from GSM disables part of the screen filtering in Gran Turismo 3/4 so you could get a sharper looking picture even in interlaced mode.

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial
      @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I always try to improve with what I have available :)
      There will always be jaggies, it was the PS2's look for most 3D games & it was interlaced as you know :) I would love a Retotink 5x or 4K but they are so expensive :0
      The main reason I like the PAL version is because it is easier to run on emulators using weaker hardware & as you said, in interlaced mode, the developers actually make it look good with better colour depth & high quality output :)
      I certainly need to try that as I noticed this from other games when enforcing standard resolution output!

    For some reason good looking games from that period are more pleasnt to look at for me (and more impressive in a way) than modern good looking games. And PS2 is by far my favourite console with xbox 360 being close second.

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial
      @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I guess it is because the art style? For me, there is something to what you stated, I feel the same way :)
      I find Gran Turismo 4 more appealing than Gran Turismo 7 on PS5, although that's because the detail packed into GT 4 was seemingly impossible at the time & still holds up :)
      I love the PS2, it is my favourite console ever!

      @@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial oh man, i still can't get over how cool Gran Turismo 3 looks (i prefer it slightly over GT4, maybe it's the more pronounced colors), and it's my favourite GT game visual wise. But there are plenty great looking ps2 games. Recently i was playing Soul Calibur 3 and 6 at my friends house, on one side SC 6 on a large screen, and on the other SC3 on crt tv. Laugh at me as much you want but SC3 was just much more impressive, not only it pushed it's hardware much further, but the artstyle and effects were just incredible.

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial
      @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I prefer GT 3 over 4 mainly for the soundtrack & because the game is bit more fun although GT 4 looks so good & is still worthwhile :D
      To be honest, I prefer Soulcalibur II over 3 because the PAL version had 480p support & it was better balanced I felt :)
      The third game is very good too & I actually enjoyed the 6th game :D I know what you mean though & I do appreciate the third game's graphics more than ever!

      @@AffrosCuriositiesOfficial oh yes GT4 is still a top tier game. Many GT titles i would rate as 10/10 games (or really close to that) like GT1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. By that i mean games that you can play for years and still not get enough of them. Fighting games aren't my cup of tea so i brought up SC3 to just say how amazing it looks.
      Nontheless i think PS2 library is just the best there ever was.

      I wasn't into GT 5 much outside of drifting due to the better smoke effects but GT 1, 2, 3, & 4 I absolutely agree with you :)
      I love fighting games, easily something I can sink my hands into aha :) SC3 is amazing but, NTSC versions have 480p so, get those if possible :)
      Agreed on that, love discovering games I never tried on PS2!

    Also, In Silent Hill 2 you can disble the film grain filter, just press the R1/L1 or was the R2/L2 buttons? in the options menu to switch screens and the option is there. But i think you have to finish the game first?, at least that is how it works in the NTSC version.

    • @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial
      @AffrosCuriositiesOfficial  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You certainly can but as you also explained you must beat the game first which I sadly haven't for about 10 years! xD
      It is the same no matter which version or region it came from :)
      I can also confirm you can disable the film grain filter in Silent Hill 3 right from the word go in the menu & make sure to enable sharp filtering for much better looking graphics :) (It's basically a flicker filter toggle and it is on by default!)
