Very helpful video tbh. I want a pc but dont have the ideal space for it and a monitor might be better but was worried about performance issues especially for iracing which i want to get into. This gives good insight
my laptop would shut down after a few minutes of playing games in clampshell mode due to it overheating. my solution is to still put it in a clamshell position, but open the laptop lid slightly so that it wouldnt overheat.
I'm not sure how well this would cope with encoding video at the same time, but as long as you have a modern ISH NVidia GPU you'll have NVENC which should help out with that and not cut majorly into your game performance. -R

How’s dell g15 for iRacing
Can any sim setup compatible to laptop
Would it be possible to use the laptop in clamshell mode and export to an external display? Will this affect performance in any way?
