      BTW I found the antibiotic you said that helped you pass the manometry test. It's called erythromycin and studies ranging back to around 20I0 show that it could be used as a prokinetic. a prokinetic is a type of drug that causes the muscle contractions to be stronger. May i ask did you continue the medication during the 2nd manometry and did you continue taking it during the surgery? I can't imagine long term antibiotic use can be good but i wonder why it was used instead of maybe other non antibiotic prokinetic drugs?

    • @lilacsheer
      @lilacsheer  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, I was given Azithromycin - A subclass of macrolide antibiotic derived from erythromycin. Azithromycin is assumed to have prokinetic characteristics (improved gastric emptying) similar to those of erythromycin. I only took it for 6 weeks, prior to the manometry.

    Thank you so much for creating this content Lilac! This is so important because it provides so much comfort and hope for potential patients. I really appreciate the details, especially the one about azithromycin. I'm suffering from daily heart burn despite maxing out on PPI and H2 blockers. I think surgical intervention is in the near future for me. I'm 32 years old. Your content have provided so much relief for me. I'm sure i'll come back and ask you more questions in the future. Keep up the good work. Thanks again and I wish you and your family the best during this time

      I’m very excited about this whole thing but hope it doesn’t take forever to get it done, I thought I heard you say from when you started looking into this until your surgery was about a year, is that correct? If so I’m hoping maybe Mass General in Boston isn’t that long a wait, but I’m extremely excited about this, I’ve had reflux for about 25 years, the thing I’ve been through in those years was unreal, I could write a book. Anyway, down the road I will let you know my outcome, I watched the rest of your videos and really appreciate your insight on everything. Extremely nice thing to do. Thank you God Bless, John

      Ahh appreciate your kind words, so sorry to hear of your long struggle. The reason it took a year was because of the process being done in 2 different places and 2 separate surgeons involved, which wasn't necessary, so I'm sure it can be done quicker! 🙌🏻🤞🏻

    Thank you so much for this video. I have been on/off PPI's (lansoprozole) for approx 4/5 years now. I had LPR significantly bad when it first reared its head about 5 years ago, I couldn't eat anything as it always felt like I was choking/something stuck and excessive mucus/throat clearing. I had numerous tests, endoscopies and gastroscopies, and was told I have inflammation and a 'faulty valve'. Then I didn't hear anything back. I had made drastic changes to my diet, was wearing loose clothing so no pressure around the stomach, taking my meds every single day without fail, taking gaviscon advance also, nothing seemed to make it go away! My doctor put me on fluoxetine as I was getting that depressed and my anxiety was through the roof, because I was getting so down about it and that wasn't exactly helping my LPR. It was just a nightmare. So fast forward, the anxiety meds helping, I was beginning to eat and felt like my throat was healing but only masked the problem. I still to this day get excessive mucus, dry mouth, coughing ect. I have recently had a really bad flare up and has made me go through the whole research process all over again! I'm so glad I found your video and your channel! Especially as you live in the UK (same as me) because before all I found were US links to LPR! I don't think people understand how much LPR has an impact on your life and finding this video really makes me feel like I'm not alone! I hopefully in the near future will be able to be referred down the surgery route🤞 Thank you for your information, hope you're well! (sorry for the long essay just needed to get it out there🙈)

      I can’t relate more to the tight clothing thing. I can’t even wear underwear because of the tight elastic band, nor jeans with a button, belts etc. i literally have to wear sweats 24/7 with a drawstring, and loosen the string every time I sit down, or I feel sick to my stomach. I already don’t eat spicy foods because of it, but I get pain and nausea on a very consistent basis. I also have developed a body temp regulation issue. I wake up in the night once every few months super sick/hot/clammy and have to strip down, lay on my shower floor while my wife douses me in freezing cold water briefly until the episode passes. It’s the only way to avoid violently vomiting. It only seems to happen on nights that I’ve slipped up on my careful diet, and allowed myself a bit too much fat. It will subside and I’ll spend the morning in bed almost dead. The past couple months my food has stopped fully digesting, and the temperature thing is getting worse. If my house is over 73 degrees I feel sick. In other peoples homes or outdoors in hotter weather, I have to soak myself etc. to stay cool, calm, and not extremely I’ll. I am starting to freak out pretty bad. I’ve exhausted myself stressing this stuff, and I just want my life back. I have 2 beautiful children 10 and 7 y/o. My life took a 180 degree turn when this hernia came about. Before that I was young, happy, free. I feel like I’ve aged 30-40 years in the past 12.

    What did you eat all the time to exercise the LINX? Did you make sure your bite was big enough to make sure you “felt it,” to ensure it was opening up enough? Like pudding or apple sauce is too soften and won’t do anything. Like a no pain, no gain situation. I’m in the USA and my doc recommended a fig newton. Sometimes I wonder if I’m opening mine up enough as if you aren’t a good patient, you will pay the consequences forever once scar tissue forms.
    Do you have any restrictions now, like do you still have to take smaller bites than you normally would or eat slower? Or you can go to town, chug water if you want etc, as if it wasn’t ever there?

    I’m about to get this surgery and I was wondering did you ever have a burning or gnawing sensation in the lower chest/solar plexus area?? That’s where most of my burning is and I put on a lot of weight because eating makes the symptoms temporarily better

    • @lilacsheer
      @lilacsheer  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, same. Burning sensation which goes away when eating. I believe the surgery should sort the symptoms. However, since the body isn't independent - It's controlled by your brain, it is important to also check what mental hardship may be contributing to the problem, why is the brain stressing out, causing the esophagus to flare up. Stress, food allergies or hidden past issues may be affecting. Otherwise the surgery can end up being a plaster on a deep open wound - The problem may persist beneath the surface, and end up in other complications if the source of the issue isn't resolved.

Are you now free to eat foods you used to avoid? No more reflux issues? I'm happy you've overcame GERD. Hoping for your response ❤

    I had linx nearly 5 weeks ago and unfortunately I've had a return of heartburn after week 3. There are improvements during the day for sure, but I'm struggling with bad heartburn in the evenings again and sometimes during the day after eating sugary sweets etc.
    I had a 4.5centimetre hiatus hernia repaired and the linx done.
    My consultant is stumped, so I'm going in for a Barium swallow test.
    One strange thing I've noticed is that when I swallow liquid I can hear it gurgling as it passes through the l I mx into the stomach.
    Needless to say I'm very disappointed. I thought this was the end of being up at night and going through half a pack of gaviscon.
    Has anyone suffered from a recurrance of heartburn like me?

      Hi Ben, this is so disheartening to hear, it seems you will have to change your diet to avoid those symptoms. I'm just working on something to help prevent LPR & IBS, once I am done experimenting with it and have some more concrete facts I will upload a video about it.

      @@lilacsheer hi Lilac. So I went back to the hospital (I'm UK based, so it was the Spire in Manchester) and had a barium swallow.
      What’s happened (according to my consultant) is the scar tissue has healed too quickly around the linx and the capsule is too tight. On the X-ray it was ok when I was stood up, but laying down the area was too tight for the linx to open so I am getting ‘pooling’ where saliva and liquid etc is accumulating in the throat before the linx and creating a feeling of reflux. This is not acid reflux but the sensation is the same.
      I have to go back in on the 26th and they are going to do a gastroscopy and dilate the capsule to stretch out the linx and capsule scar tissue. Apparently this has been done to 5 out of 55 patients that the consultant has operated on and it’s successfully resolved the issue.
      We will wait to see if this is the case with me (touchwood).
