Acid reflux runs in my family. My father developed esophageal cancer at age 52 and had to have his esophagus removed. My two brothers and I have it and my oldest son and youngest daughter have it. My taking PPI raises my stomach pH such that I am very susceptible to salmonellosis. My Linx surgery is in a week. Hopefully my results will be as good as yours.
@@laurenallen4057 They did both a hiatal hernia repair and installed the LINX. After the surgery I had pain from the CO2 they pumped in me but that resolved. I also had pain when I breathed too deeply as they stitched up my diaphragm to fix my hiatal hernia but that also resolved. I did develop postoperative ileus that required me to go back to the hospital, but that also resolved. They did hurt my vein for the IV when I went back to the hospital and that is still bothering me, but I expect that to go away. I have been having dysphasia, as is expected following the LINX installation until the device fully scares in. If I don’t chew enough or if you swallow too much, the bolus gets impacted at the LINX and it is painful as your body tries to muscle it into the stomach. It happens most when I eat bread products, especially doughnuts, or if I eat Asian (sticky) rice. Once I swallowed WAY too much and failed to chew and I had to endure trying to get that bolus down for about 30 minutes. I drank a gulp of water and the water stacked ion top of the bolus until it finally leaked past, and that felt very uncomfortable. But this is all warned about. Until the LINX is fully broken in, you gotta be careful to chew and not swallow huge loads of food, especially bread. I am told this will resolve and it is already getting better. My doctor says I have to eat something every two hours to exercise the LINX. Since I couldn’t do that for a bit when I went back to the hospital, the doctor prescribed me steroids for the inflammation and that made swallowing easier. I have not had a single case of reflux, heartburn, or anything else since my surgery. Main takeaway, surgery wasn’t that bad (sans the ileus I happened to get), dysphasia is normal and will resolve, and until it does you gotta chew thoroughly, avoid swallowing too much, and be wary of eating too much bread product at first.

The dysphagia started the second week for me, it was scary the first time not knowing what to expect. After that first time though it wasn't scary, it just exhausted my whole system. I still can't burp like I could beforehand (assuming that will continue to resolve over time, but I can throw up. I still struggle to swallow cold drinks/food, I'm on a very low dose steroid to clear up the inflammation. Will you have to get the Nissen because of size or insurance?
@@geektome4781 Glad to know it went well for you, minus the ileus situation. Mine went similarly well, thankfully. I am currently on a short steroid dose in order to clear up some inflammation. Yes, the chewing and small pieces is so important. And I don't even keep a drink around me when I eat. For over a month I barely could drink water, it didn't have enough weight to open the device. So, I drank a lot of gatorade.
I’m thinking of getting this surgery done but only thing that concerns me is that the device can erode in time so makes you think twice about doing it.🤔

I just got the linx because I had horrible reflux and a hital hernia my stomach was in my esophagus basically with the linx you have to do a stretch therapy with it where you eat something soft and drink warm things don't eat cold things as it can make your esophagus spasm and come back up it does hurt a little but I heard it gets better in time I can definitely feel a big difference and it's been since Monday June 6th 2022 since I had the surgery
@@violetmontenegro may I make a suggestion . Try taking ppi about two hours before bed time. I think it's better to try to reduce acid during the night . Cause your laying down . In the day your standing up . ???? What do u think ?

Which inflamed the esophagus. Dieting will help a little .there is a stretta procedure also n linx. I'm trying to decide also. Hard decision really. Tif procedure the Staples come loose over time , linkx can scar n errode over time so they remove it . Sum time people have phantom symptoms . Like heart racing. I'm guessing linx is the best. Not sure really my family doctor says stay on pills. Which are meant to be used no more than 60 days really . I think people interviewed are the ones right after surgery that feel great . Wish we could talk to sumbody five years after the surgery. Or read the five year studies
How about the TIF Procedure as an alternative? TIF Procedure is supposed to be less invasive Proceedure, TIF stands for Transdoral Incisionless Fundoplication.
Since acid reflux begins in the stomach, I don’t understand how this improves the inflammatory response of the stomach. If there’s still an inflammatory response happening in the stomach, how does the Linx stop that? Also, you need to be able to burp. Can you burp with a Linx implant?
Hello, my reflux symptoms go away at night and get worse throughout the day. Mostly a "crop" feeling in my throat, and some days I have no symptoms. I have a herniated stomach they found and wanted to do the fundoplastic surgery but it was to agressive to me. LINX sounds way better and less complicated and can be reversed I believe? I live in Belgium but they don't do linx here. Can I get the operation in UK?

I would think that it would be considered too dear for the actual device is £2000 and the NHS will not pay if there is a cheap operation without a device.
I am so tired of this. I have had reflux for years. And my Mom has it too. I can't take PPIs anymore because of other medications and now I have bone issues. OTC antacids don't work very well either. I've lost weight recently and it seems to be worse. I have severe health anxiety as well. I just don't see another way forward.

I had AR so bad I was only able to sleep setting up right in a chair, Could not bend over to tie my shoes. Finally got the Magnets the surgery was awful. well so far its been 5 years living with the Magnets, its about 90% affective, which s a big improvement. Update: as tine goes on after the surgery, for what ever reason stating to have more issues, (nightly) especially at night
This technology seems antiquated. They should make one that senses when you swallow and opens and closes based on that. It should also be able to tell when you need to burp or vomit.
Either way it's better to have the surgery if you can, shutting down your stomach acid production is not good for nutrient absorption or defending against pathogens in food.

@@slymejyme4293 It's been exactly one week since my LINX surgery and the undoing of my Nissen. It's very hard for me to swallow foods. Some foods are impossible. The doctor is considering doing an esophageal dilation to hopefully stretch out thr linx device and my esophageal muscles. I'm still optimistic and patient. It's already been a very long road so far.

I had the linx implant 8 years ago. It has helped me tremendously! I get an EGD every 2 years and have gotten a good report each time.

You get like five little incisions in your abdomen. They’re certainly scars but they fade over time.

40 mg?? 80 mg is the max dosage for omeprazole. They usually have you max that out before considering surgery.
