    We just bought a model Y and have the same release FSD. Going on the highway, it started to turn onto the highway shoulder on the right just a few hundred feet before the actual exit ramp. Sometimes you still have to take over and correct it. We also notice it hesitates especially when going around traffic circles and can’t decide if it can beat the other cars or not. Once it entered and changed it’s mind and immediately disengaged FSD. Left us half in and half out with people giving us a strange look. Partially solved by putting on one of those “Please be patient, Student driver” stickers on the back. 😂

    Hey Mark, thanks for the video, and the ride along, you come across as the genuine person, love your canter and your banter, and you keep being you, my friend.
    So I just got into a 2024 L/R, dual motor all-wheel-drive Tesla Model S, and my trade-in was a L/ R, duel motor, all-wheel-drive, Tesla Model 3, with FSD full self driving.
    So I’ve seen every iteration of the software from the very get-go, and I’m talking about when the price was 3K, and so I signed up immediately, and paid the 3K, and watched it go to 5K to 8K to 12K, to 15K, and now back to 12K, so it’s anybody’s guess where it will go from here.
    So I couldn’t agree with you more, that going from V11 to V12, it’s like night and day. I mean it’s as if FSD went from being a toddler to being a young man in an instant, that’s how good V12 is, compare to V11, and I’m currently on V12.3.3.
    So I think the subscription idea was a good idea, but not at $200 a month, but at $99 a month, definitely a better deal, and oh BTW, the reason I traded in my Model 3 was because they allowed me to transfer my FSD from the Model 3 to the Model S, and so you can see that’s a substantial savings right there, not to mention all the other benefits of owning an EV, especially a Tesla.
    So there was no way I was going to pass up a 2nd chance to make that transfer, because the 1st time around, I just wasn’t prepared to deal, but when they came out with the 2nd window, I said, I gotta go, no way I’m gonna pass this up a 2nd time, as I know a good deal when I see one.
    So full disclosure, I wasn’t much of a Tesla fan, as I never thought that they would succeed, although I did like the idea of having an electric car, but I didn’t think they could make such a car, and even after I heard them announce the launch of the Model S, I thought it was way to expensive, and so I wasn’t prepared to deal, but when Elon started to talk about a self driving car, that sparked my interest, and it was at that point, I was all in.
    So full disclosure, I don’t own Tesla stock, because I don’t own stock in any company, and it’s not that I’m opposed to owning Tesla stock or any other company stock, I am just not interested in living my life worrying about the price of a company’s stock or where the stock market is, however, haven’t said that, like most people I have a general interest in the markets, and on occasion certain companies catch my eye, such as a Tesla, and now Nvidia has been in the news quite often, but again I don’t buy individual stocks, I buy funds, and so if the fund managers bought Tesla’s stock, then I own it indirectly through the fund, but not as an individual who decided to buy Tesla stock, and so whether the stock is up or down or sideways I really don’t pay much attention to it, because I don’t own the company’s stock directly.
    So Warren Buffett said something that stuck with me, and it was this, “never invest in things you don’t understand, and I think that’s wise counsel, and a good rule of thumb for anyone, and so I’ve added another idea to that rule, and that is, “don’t invest in things that will keep you up at night,” as life is already filled with so many pitfalls, why add another one to your life, therefore, I pay other people to worry about whether or not the stock is up or down or sideways, as my job is to live my best life that I can possibly live without worrying about things outside of my control.
    So I’ve also learned something else too, and that is money is something you need only in case you don’t die tomorrow, because if you died today or tomorrow, you will have had all the money you ever needed.
    So live your best life, and live your life like it’s the last day of your life, because for somebody in this world it truly is, and will be your last day too.
    So thanks again for the video, and the ride along, and stay safe out there. Enjoy your Tesla, enjoy your life, look forward to your next road trip video. Cheers 🥂

    I disagree that people who argue against EV's don't know what they're talking about.
    I love the looks of Tesla vehicles and have considered owning one for over 10 years. However, I wouldn't get an EV right now because I live in a hurricane prone part of the country (somewhere you seem to be very unfamiliar with). Imagine living in the keys, and needing to evacuate up the peninsula of Florida with the rest of the state. Gas pumps typically have long wait times, but EV charging? Hours at best (not just charging time, but time spent waiting in line and then charging). And that wait time would only get longer the more popular EV's become. Also, that wait time is best case scenario, assuming the electric company isn't throttling (which they do near me & would likely do because of the high usage). Until charge times are similar, or better, compared to the time it takes me to fill up at a pump, I won't consider getting an EV. Otherwise, I might as well stay home and hope for the best.

Started investing in Tesla and figured I would go down for a test drive for the shits and giggles. Bought my X on the spot after a 5 minute explanation on how to even work everything, well most everything and a 20 minute test drive. Mind blowing and still is with every update. No it is not perfect, acts strange every now and again but blows anything I have ever owned prior.

    Give it time mate , the novelty will probably wear off after a while , it is easy to be overwhelmed by something a bit different , range anxiety is a thing though , we own a long range dual motor , it appears your driving in ideal conditions , but Evs can go down hill fast when circumstances change on a long run .
    And personally i would not be too trusting of self drive or even just full cruise , these things are not infallible .
    The dangerous thing about them is they will probably be fine for ages , and lull you into a false sense of security , that in turn effects your spatial awareness and fatigue factor , as an old trucky this is an area i know something about .
    Air suspension is not a new thing , my 1990 lexus had full air suspension with adjustable height and adjustable dampers , it is nice to have though .

    For relatively short distances, an EV makes sense, if you can charge at home. I'd be a little nervous having that much lithium battery in my garage, but in a carport, away from the house is fine. I have enough land to handle that.
    Plugging in every night is less hassle than refueling. And zero emissions is huge for densely packed residential areas. There, I think it's a big plus, more because of local air quality considerations than climate remediation.
    But EVs are a combination of advantages and disadvantages. If I'm travelling cross-country in the winter, I want that fire under the hood. In the summer, you can pack enough solar cells to "re-fuel" anywhere, so you can make your own fuel.
    If there ever comes a time that fossil fuels aren't available, you can make wood gas out of trees, like they did when gas was short during the war. You'd probably use 20-lb propane tanks and compress the stuff, but you could power an ICE with it, porting the gas directly to the manifold.
    I think they sort of got the cart ahead of the horse, with EVs, because the electric generation is largely coal-fired plants. Attack where the power comes from and do much more for emission reductions. Atomic power seems like a logical strategy.

    Actually the cost to charge an EV isn't actually much cost savings if any at all. At $0.28/kwh like you said for fast charging that's about the same as having a corolla hybrid with gas price of $3.36. Many fast chargers in my area are actually far more than gas at $0.35-0.48/kwh making them an absolutely abysmal deal.
    In general though even if we assume you use the average residential rate of $0.17 in the US right now with the annual average gas price of $3.40, you're only saving around $300-500 a year. This gap will plummet if you live in a state that has or is planning to add an EV road tax. EVs can't be expected to drive on the road for free forever and some states have already cut back on it.
    I won't at all deny the performance of EVs or how smooth they are, but they aren't appreciably better value, especially when people are actually buying models that are $5-8K more than the next car they would have bought. You'll never make that money back at such small benefits a year.

    • @MarkLauzonTheStoneGuy
      @MarkLauzonTheStoneGuy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's nonsense....at least where I live. I pay 8 cents a Kwh all day long.

    • @Skylancer727
      @Skylancer727 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MarkLauzonTheStoneGuy only 4 years ago the electricity were I live in the north east was $0.0735/kwh. In that time it has since over doubled to just under $0.18/kwh and like I said the average US residential cost is $0.17.
      Not sure exactly where you live as even looking up the state averages the lowest is Nebraska had the lowest residential at $0.985/kwh with the next runner up being North Dakota at $0.0988. The prices vary a lot month to month as well but have been very high the last 3 years mainly due to investment in new power and things like crypto currency mining.
      It very much depends where you live. Like I said, rule of thumb is if you pay the average you're not really saving anything if gas is $3.30 or less. I know some people mention how cheap a single fill is, but most EVs also only have half the range so of course they look better on individual charges, you should be looking at the full annual value vs miles, basically how much does it cost for the average 15K annual. EVs also ironically benefit the more you drive vs gas, yet its inherent limits mean those who drive EVs are also less likely to go as far in a year.
      And like I said, fast chargers tend to be a terrible deal even vs gas. Some EV stations charge a subscription just to get a lower rate which is still as high or higher than gas. I say if you plan on using fast charging I hope you live in a state that only charges based on time not energy rates. Those are by far the best value.

    • @MarkLauzonTheStoneGuy
      @MarkLauzonTheStoneGuy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Skylancer727 you’re saying this but it’s kinda nonsense your math only works if the gas is 2 bucks and the ice car get 50 miles a gallon. Thats not reality on either front.

    • @Skylancer727
      @Skylancer727 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MarkLauzonTheStoneGuy I said assuming that gas is $3.30 which is realistic. And there are definitely cars that get 50mpg. You can get a Corolla hybrid for $23K with a fuel economy of 53mpg in the city, 46 highway, same for Camry, and the Prius is 56mph either way. If your point was exclusively saving costs, there you go. Like I said you'll never make that money back buying a car like the Model 3 which is $15K more. These cars aren't nearly as performance oriented as an EV but if your point was just general cost savings there you go.
      Still even if you drove for free in an Model 3 vs Corolla hybrid it would take you 15 years to make the difference. And let's be serious here, nobody gets free power unless their employer supplies it.
      Like I said, people use the justification it's cheaper to drive as a reason to buy a more expensive car, you shouldn't be doing that. Some hybrids have the same marketing garbage like how a RAV4 hybrid will never make the money back from a standard, not at the $3K mark up. And if you were instead to buy a Model Y instead of a basic RAV4, which is $7K more after federal credits (which many forget not everyone can get), you'd have to use it for 11.4 years to pay off the difference.
      Like I said, you shouldn't be buying an EV for value, and there's nothing wrong with saying you want a sports car. Let's be serious here, the main reason to buy an EV is performance. You can't really get EV performance till you go in price brackets well out of consumer range. And like I said, this is math based on driving 15K miles annual, if you drive less the numbers look worse.
