      Good character, but watch his last years worth of videos vs longer ago. He had a cop out before every race. Excuse after excuse. He’s not winning against top people anymore. It’s sad but it’s the future.

    • @RC-wz9vw
      @RC-wz9vw ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @mezner09 he even says he didn’t make money this year racing is a TH-camr, and still has a funny attitude while acknowledging his mistakes and downfalls. What is the purpose of saying he makes excuses when right in the video he makes none? Of course he’s not on the same level as Gustav and Blummenfelt but discrediting anyone who isn’t would be saying almost all Ironman athletes are washed up. You clearly have not been watching.

    Hi Lionel,
    I raced Indian Wells. I literally told myself I may not finish the swim. Well, I didn’t. My 70.3 ended 30 minutes into the race. I was pulled for being too slow. The best part of my Indian Wells race was getting an autograph from you as you walked to drop off your T2 gear. I’m coming back to Indian Wells in 2023. I will effing finish the race. I will listen to this video every effing day to remind me why I do this. My damn confidence beat me. Listening to this, man…thank you! Thank you for being genuine.

    I'm one of those folks who've never been critical of whatever things LS has tried and whether it worked or didn't. I have no clue what it's like to be at that level of anything. It's just fun to see the inside out perspective of it and him willing to share it. He wears his heart on the sleeve for the most part and doesn't seem to be controlled from a messaging level from his sponsors which just adds more spice and fun to following along. THanks LS team!

    • @j33dup

    • @rogerc23
      @rogerc23 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No one in the sport has the visibility of LS and his social media. Him and Talbot literally are the top 25% of Ironman viewership pie. Sponsors should be begging to have even 1% of him and Ironman should be paying him appearance fees for any race he attends. But it’s clear none of the athletes are focused on Ironman this year. It’s 100% racing for the PTO races and that prize money. As it should be.

    Becoming world champion is a Lionel Sanders goal, and a very noble one indeed. I'm sure all of us will continue to root for you and feel extreme pride when you inevitably achieve it.
    However, the unmeasurable impact you've had on us, your viewers, over the years; that's a lifetime achievement in itself that's way beyond what any world title could ever achieve. The human impact will always best the individual impact.
    The way you've inspired hundreds of thousands of us to do more, and ultimately be more, is a true victory that no one will ever be able to take from you.
    I think it quite difficult for you to actually grasp how far you've reached into our lives and motivated us, but perhaps one day you'll realize you'd already won way before you finished.
    Thank you Mr. Sanders.
    And I shall now stop hunching over my laptop keyboard and resume training, for there's time, but not too much to waste.

    I'm guessing Mikal is out? Regardless, I think he finally gets it. Lionel's ability to push and out muscle guys was his strength. Lionel's old training habits mixed with what he's learned about proper resting... Sheesh he might be in for a monster season. Happy for him, excited to see him on the top step.

      This whole interviews surely comes across as: I tried working with Mikal to copy the Norwegians and their method doesn't work for me. Does sound a bit like he doesn't believe in the crazy testing /data heavy approach of them

    • @TheDomLouis
      @TheDomLouis ปีที่แล้ว +20

      He got 2nd in a World Championships while working with the Norwegians. Last time he worked with a coach he got 2nd in Kona. Every time he's raced without a coach, he's either walked and/or definitely hasn't podiumed in Kona (2018, 2019). So if Lionel's going to flip flop to another year without a coach, I fear this will be the beginning of the end of his career, because he's not getting younger. The Norwegians took 6-8 years to get where they are today. At the very least, IMO, Lionel should stick it out for another year. I don't believe he'll get worse with his dedication and mindset. Yes he's had mixed results, but that doesn't mean throwing everything out the window and starting from scratch, thinking you know what you are doing on your own again. We've seen this script play out time and again. I've been a fan since before the 2017 podium. I think He's forgotten what "trust the process" means.

    • @raydoolittle6695
      @raydoolittle6695 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      If I can piece together what Lionel has said elsewhere, last season's training was such high volume that it drained him physically and emotionally. The intensity in his workouts wasn't there due to lactate numbers and fatigue from just grinding out the miles, etc. So when he did show up at races, he was already just sick of it; no fire in his belly. He wants to go back to hammering his workouts and attacking his races, not just slogging through the miles.

I'm no athlete, when I do a 5150 my mission is to make the cutoff, but I admire you. You may think you have not lived up to your own expectations, but do not take away your sphere of influence. You know Brian's Book "Wish it, Want it, Do it"? I wrote one too, it's called "Wish it, Want it - You Blew it".
    Let me read you an excerpt.
    "You wished you could have won the World Championship, You wanted to beat everyone else in the field...Guess what, You Blew It."
    -Vinny
    All Love, Lionel. You are the man.

    15:25 WhAT are you saying!? It's been a fucking amazing year content-wise. The level of documentation, ups and downs. Talbot teleported us to every race. I still can hear Mikals guitar playing. Let's go Lionel!

    The best way to silence the doubters is to perform.
    It’s pro sports. All you have to do is deliver the results.
    The rest is just noise and rhetoric.
    Best of luck in 2023!
