    *****PLEASE READ****
    A short 15 minute video of lionel does not represent his life. There is plenty fluffy fun “life is just so amazing” quotes I can put in this edit and make you think life is just so amazing but that’s not our goal.
    Our Pillars for this TH-cam are
    -GENUINE/AUTHENTIC
    -MOTIVATIONAL/INSPIRATIONAL
    -Education/INFORMATIONAL
    -EMOTIONAL
    -COMICAL
    -POSITIVITY/UPLIFTING
    Lionel is by far the most inspiring and uplifting person I have ever met in my life. He inspires me every day. I have been around plenty of other athletes that are the exact opposite and they live their life in negativity.
    Don’t let this short 15 min video make you think lionel lives like this every day. This is professional sport and professional workplace. So before you comment below ask yourself if you have ever had a tough day at work out at the office? Have you ever had a bad workout or race?
    This video was simply made to let the fans and followers know it’s all not fluff and fairytales it’s hard workouts and tough days as well. (Genuine and authentic)
    (I am pinning this comment on Lionel’s channel)

      I’m an older age group athlete who has come into my own very late in life. I get it. Last weekend I got my ass handed to me for a fifth place finish. It’s not about the placement. It’s about what I know I am capable of. This week was a very tough one dealing with my own personal bitch party. It’s nice not to be alone hear. Now time to move on and upward. Lionel Your words show determination... but keep the data, like the testing of lactate under your "the intensity of listening to body " and assess the progress... It is great that you are conscious of the need to adjust your training to the level of the best competitors out there but it is a process and you as many athletes are in a breaking point of patience. don't lose your patience, adapt and push hard but smart. Don't get desperate.

    Do your best race in years (St. George), take it smart, get a coach that is right now like #1 triathlon coach in the world. Follow his regime that includes all the data analysis, attitude training and volume. But nope. One bad race and heeere we go again with pushing pushing and more pushing. And the line about pissing away 2 months was like eeeh kinda disrespectful for M. Iden I guess? But that is my opinion. At least the videos are going to be entertaining with all that above race pace every other day. And please don't hate. I love Lionel but this whole situation is like a big deja vu.

      This is exactly what I said, lionel raced a new format in the 100k, on a technical circuit, which is suited to itu guys, and he has gone and said all of this. Again, love lionel and his ability to suffer in racing, but he frustrates me so much with his over analysis and sporadic decisions and changes. Turned vegan over night, sacked off Tilbury Davies and designed a season from sprint to Ironman because he thought Gustav did this. I honestly thought this was the one season where Lionel would finally settle with a coach, trust the process, and reap the rewards. But nope, total over sight and reflecting on the fact this distance is not for him, and back to old Lionel.

Anyway we are going to watch him train himself to the ground and wonder why he only just gets into top 10 in Kona later this year.

    Sad to see this. He keeps talking about being humbled by the best in order to learn. Gets humbled, but then chooses instead to abandon scientific training for the brute force stuff he knows only gets him so far. That's dogma not humility.
    But then as fans, that changes nothing about what we already love about him. He is the stubborn brute force of triathlon, the master of pain. And there'll never be another one like him.

    I am a huge Lionel fan and I love his personality, drive, ambition and work ethic and honestly, this was tough to watch, especially when we have all seen him begin to follow an alternative (better?) path based on the old addage regarding insanity. It feels like he hasn't given it long enough to allow his physiology to adjust to the new protocols. A long conversation with Gus, Blum and Mikal to understand the patience required to achieve the results these guys now achieve might be worth an hour or two... It didn't happen in a few months for sure.

    Lionel: You have tried every imaginable torture on your body to become a consistent world class triathlete, despite your perennial limping while running and your peculiar pedal stroke (I can't imagine your power have you have a clean pedal stroke). You are competing against guys, most of whom have been swimming since they were 5 years old. And on top, you are one of the most recognizable faces of the sport, a stature 100% earned on race day (and yes, thanks to an entertaining and honest TH-cam channel too.). Yes, you had a less than stellar result against the Norwegian Vikings, but you have also a long string of positive results in the last couple of years such as Copenhagen, Mano-a-Mano with Frodeno in Germany, St George, Canadian TT record etc). Keep it up and don't strain yourself too much. One thing I can tell you: Baby Sanders will have the fittest dad he can ask for. :=)

    I get the feeling. “It’s okay if I don’t win, but I don’t want to get to the end of my career knowing I didn’t give it my all”-I get that, 100%. And it’s what’s kept me going and focused every day for years now. That urgency of “I only have so much time to do this before I start deteriorating and it’s all over” is a hell of a motivator.
    I don’t know whether this new approach is right or not for Lionel, and I’m sure as hell not gonna pretend I’m an expert like either he or Mikal is. But I do know that, in my own experience, relentless hard work can be almost like a security blanket when a new approach doesn’t seem to be working. For the past year, my coach has had me running way slower than I used to outside of my key sessions, keeping my heart rate way down and staying in Zone 2. And it’s frustrating, because I was never used to doing that. I’d always go all-out on nearly every run-and it felt hard, and that was a REWARDING feeling, but I spent the better part of half a decade wearing myself out for nothing and building absolutely no aerobic capacity. Now, doing things correctly to make up for all that lost time feels like a drag, like I’m barely doing anything. And I get that impulse to pick up the pace, to work harder, to make myself hurt. Fighting that impulse, trusting my coach, and sticking to the plan is hard, just as much emotionally as physically. I have to remind myself sometimes that giving it your all doesn’t just mean doing everything hard, but doing everything right. Holding yourself accountable at all times. Being patient. A new approach can take months to pay off, maybe even years-it’s tough to sit through all that, I fully empathize.
    And hell, sometimes it takes some trial & error, some experimentation, to figure out what’s really right. There’s no shame in that, and it doesn’t mean you weren’t trying hard enough throughout the process or that you’re a bad athlete because something didn’t work out. You could only have known that if you tried in the first place, and learning that something doesn’t work for you is knowledge in and of itself.

Instead of taking a physical step back, going into deep isolation amd KONA focus…he’s pushing pushing pushing for this dumb collins cup thing. That’s two more weeks of stress then a huge race stress. I just listened to Mark Allen talk about his first three years in the sport before he met Phil Maffetone and it’s like Lionel needs a piece of this calm, positive long term growth attitude. His swimming can still improve and his running has gone off the rails this season. But he does t see it, discredits it all and is shitting on his effort and accomplishments because he’s now focused on the Norwegians instead of Jan. It’s not about DAVE SCOTT bro…focus internally on doing YOU!! F what Blu and Gustav are doing! You have all the Kona years….BE THE CONFIDENT ONE!!!

Don’t panic, you will be good when Kona arrives.
    Also I took some excellent information away from you on your last video where you said you didn’t hit your normal power numbers in training due to being at altitude and you also didn’t hit the numbers in the race. The 100k distance in urban settings for PTO races is not your wheelhouse as you mentioned. The ITU guys are used to the quick transitions and super technical bike courses. Obviously you bleed time in the swim but you aren’t used to the technical bike courses so seem to push more power but are slowed by the cornering and other technical bits.
    You might want to throw in more time outside pushing power while in a technical route.

    Thanks again for this wonderful video Talbot. I cannot help but write something in what I start to call the coaches corner 🥴. As a triathlete and coach I see the natural tendency to leave an approach when results dont come fast enough. I am not Iden so the change I am wrong regularly is probable, but I think its safe to say that staying with Iden, his approach and his numbers etc will bring the results. Especially since Blu is similar to Lionel I think. Just have faith and some patience…apart from this, Lionels behaviour is brilliant as always. Absolutely love it.

The drive and passion are one thing but the endless training sessions, travel and competitor's lifestyle have taken a cumulative toll on his musculature and physiology. Take a proper break, recharge the batteries, rebuild the body and enjoy a birth and rebirth.

    To be up against Iden, Blumnedfelt, Frodeno and others is a tall order in any generation, remember where you came from Lionel, how you reached the heights, that keeps you grounded, humble...you start over analysing and start an obsessive drive to be like them (or beat them) then you've not asked yourself the harder questions, how did I get here, what is the objective. It's like a Quixotic mania fighting windmills for you'll never be satisfied and more importantly you'll never be happy...in anything you do.
    You need to break that thinking.

    You're making a big mistake here, I'm telling you. You basically trained like "give 120% every workout" for 11 years and failed, then you trained like the best in the world (Gustav, Kristian, Jan, Lucy, Laura etc.) for 6 months and failed and now you think that "120% training" is suddenly good? I don't know why I have to say this to a professional athlete, but your body needs time to get used to the new training - I would stick to science and the Norwegians.

MY HONEST feedback might sting a bit, but I am speaking from the heart. Your attitude is either way positive , upbeat, confident or pathetic and whinny. Unfortunately, the field is TOO strong and your swimming IS the reason you are going through what you are now. You were damn near last in a very short swim last race, and that makes it virtually impossible for you to win...Kona has hit you hard twice, and my gut feeling is you might need reevaluate. PTO no, IM 140.6 maybe......I will always be a fan of yours. E

    • @retobunzli2088
      @retobunzli2088 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pretty new here.. but why does Lionel refuse to fix his running technique? Has his hips broken at the waist instead of extended and lands way too far back on the foot.. and that over an entire marathon distance. He already trains hours upon hours everyday so why not incorporate 5 mins of technical work before every run? It's completely normal to have weird running technique, that's why professional runners generally do technical work with/after every warmup. Also targeting leg stiffness might help (e.g. through jump-roping). Endurance is clearly not the issue and work ethic isn't either. In athletics, the general rule is technique > speed > strength > endurance, writing off a suboptimal running technique as "natural" (or even "unchangeable") seems such a wasted opportunity for improvement (especially since it's a releatively easy and quick fix compared to improving aerobic capabilities etc.)

    • @TalbotCoxMedia
      @TalbotCoxMedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Lionel’s attitude is based off what clips I decide to use and the music I use. There is plenty of fluffy stuff I can put on there to make you think like is just so perfect. But at the end of the day we all have tough days and sessions. Have you ever came home from work and been upset? Don’t think that a 15 min video represents Lionel’s life. I edit them. I am with him daily. He by far the most positive and uplifting person I have ever been around. If you want me to name some athletes I have worked with that are the complete opposite I can lol.

    • @utuber221
      @utuber221 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@retobunzli2088 he's said it many times in previous videos. He started running like this when he was in school and he's been doing it all his life. He doesn't feel the need to fix anything as his body has adapted and become the most efficient with his style. End of conversation ;)
