It's a shame, because it has low mileage, and when healthy, the car still drives like new, has little or no rattle and creaks, and is very roomy for what is, by today's standards, a very compact sedan. But it's time to say goodbye to it, and we're debating whether to get the new 330i or the 330e. The fact we put very low mileage on our cars, and that in Canada a comparably equipped 330e x-drive costs significantly more than a 330i x-drive would tip us in favour of the 330i. I have 13,000 miles on mine. Just about 1/2 of that is on electric. I don’t understand why the trade in value has dropped to 32k from 53k MSRP in 1.5 years. That’s the only issue I have with this car. The gasoline engine has 6.5k on it. It’s essentially a 330i engine detuned. When you drive in Electric only mode, you really don’t put that much stress on any component as how much stress can 100 hp do to a car? I hope the battery goes within the 8 year warranty. If it does, I really see this car going beyond 10 years easily. To top things off, they gave me a 330i as a loaner when I went for maintenance. Guess what? I didn’t like it as much. I drove my son’s 2023 M340i - no doubt it is insanely fast - but another guess what? I like the 330e more.

I just picked up a 2024 BMX X3, in that suv. You can turn on or off the vehicle from shutting off when you open the door and step out of it. I belive that is operating on I drive 7.
To keep the car on, you can either buckle the seat belt or put it in Xtraboost mode. The car will stay on even when you open the driver's side door. Also if you try to park close to the curb, and slowly move the car with the driver's side door open, make sure to have the seat belt on, otherwise the car will automatically put the transmission in P. Now yes expensive high quality leather feels better more comfortable indeed, but high quality fo leather can be comfortable as well but with better longevity. BMWs are not what they use too be, these days they are plenty reliable, not saying they are the best but they are up there and has significantly improved.
I went for the fake leather hoping that all German Fake Leather is similar. My brother needed a temporary car years ago (1993) because he was getting a company car in two months. He bought a 15 year old Mercedes 240d with 320,000 miles on it for $900. The fake leather was in incredible condition. I know they don’t make them like they used to, but the BMW fake leather feels and looks just as good. That old Mercedes was nearly flawless for those 2 months btw.
Drew, Mason, I have also had my BMW 330e for one year (as of Jan 4th). I am about to take it in for the first service, which should not cost anything. Same experience with the car turning itself off - I open the door to see where I am vs a parking stripe, and it turns off. Slightly annoying, but the thrill of accelerating from a stop with the electric motor makes up for it.
Thank you for "BMW Hybrid 101". This would be my very 1st Hybrid. Only car I drive is BMW so I accept high cost maint & pirelli tires. After watching this, I feel a lot better about a Hybrid. Don't fail me now BMW.
Glad you're enjoying the car after a year of ownership. The one thing that would concern me is the car cutting off after getting out, I bet that's very annoying! Sorry I haven't commented in a minute but hope the new year is treating you both well 🤝😎
For me and I just noticed this so it may have come with the last software update I did (I’ve also owned mine for 1 year) : if it’s in sport xtraboost mode the engine is always on. In that mode, you can get out of the car and it will remain running.
Wow insurance is expense in Kentucky!!! I’m in Oklahoma and driving 2 new cars and they are about $500 less! Basically almost $100 per month per vehicle. I have a 15 month old Mazda CX-5 and a new Acura TLX
Yeah, this is very insightful. I just purchased a 2024 which was delivered about a month ago now. I did take a trip from Columbus Ohio down to Cincinnati. During the three day stay in Cincinnati I was able to drive around and electric because the hotel had free charging so when I got back home and filled up with gas I had only used about a quarter of a tank which cost me about $25 of premium gas fill. Now, I am curious about the car turning off. Mine doesn’t do that. My slight annoyance is that it doesn’t turn off until I lock the doors.
My 23 330i m sport in Brooklyn gray has been awesome! No complaints. Plenty of power and get a lot of compliments on the style and interior the screens.
I wonder if the breaking and turning off annoyances are also there on the m340i. Afterall the breaking is usually gimicky on e vehicles, and I wouldn't expect a gas engine to just "turn off" when the door is opened.
I pretty much have the same nuisance plus the fuel gauge, it’s hard to predict the range, imo, when it keeps fluctuating depending on the e-range and gas seems to deplete quickly once on gas.
Great content, guys! My pre-LCI 330e pushing its 3rd year only has a steering system issue; knocking noise from either the steering rack or the control arms. Haven't brought it in, though. It's still under the BRI.
When i want to keep my 330e running when i get off i put it in sport mode to turn on the engine. Its the only way around the car turning off when exiting the vehicle if passengers are present.
Have you ever tried without charging the battery & use the car as a normal hybrid set up like a toyota hybrid? Does it bring charge to the battery or does it stay on pure ice when there is no charge to the battery? Thanks!
It runs as a traditional hybrid when the battery is depleted. The engine will cycle on and off as needed and the battery gains charge from the engine and regen braking 👍
Thanks for the review. The screen looks awful. It is so primitive at 7:09. Like if I bought a wide screen on ebay and just glued it to the dashboard. I had no idea BMW multimedia integration was so bad.
While you judge and respond looking at a video, some of us own this car. idrive 8 with wide screen display is one the best in the business. Zero stability issues, bright, high PPI and snappy. Coming from someone who also owns Audi Q5 and previous gen 540i with idrive 7. 330e in xboost mode from signal to signal has serious torque, you got to drive one to feel what it really means when both electric and inline outputs combined power. Top it with one of the best NVH , you need to look at the rear view mirror to see how fast the car is accelerating. This is my daily for pick up and drop kiddo from school . 20 miles back and forth , hook for regular outlet charging and fully charged and ready to go for evening. 86 mpg average , I force this car to battery hold to drain the gasoline after a while so I can refuel it.
You guys didn't talk about whether smaller trunk (compared to the 330i) is an issue in everyday use. To me, that may be a dealbreaker for families, especially families with young children, and will be lugging around strollers, sport equipment, etc.
After the battery is depleted and the car is running solely on the gas engine, does it feel sluggish, given that the gas engine in the 330e puts out less than 200hp, and the battery weighs around 300lb?
Always wanted to know if there’s a bad glare with the instrument panel. Are you able to read your speed or anything on the screen when the sun is beaming on it?
Can't wait to own this car.. do have a question though. On long drives when the battery is " -- "does the car feel slower without the electric assistance or does it drive the same with enough passing power? Also pressing sports mode would solve the turning off issue when exiting, is still annoying though.
I believe that the only time both systems completely work together to maximize power is in the XtraBoost drive mode, so there's no meaningful change in acceleration when the battery runs out. Thanks for watching!
So after one year, the trunk makes an annoying sound as it's closing, the brakes are a little jerky, and sometimes it will respond when you don't want it to when saying BWW or Lexus. These "problems" are why I finally took a chance and bought a MINI. BMW has improved not only their reliability but also that of MINI. To the point Consumer Reports named MINI the #3 most reliable car brand of 2024. They are expensive to get serviced once the warranty has expired, but BMW seems to have actually listened to their customers complaints and are building cars that spend far more time on the road and less being serviced in the garage.
Runflats are a complete rip off. Next time take a look at some Yokohama Apex V601. Sporty affordable tire. Would have saved you a some money and they look better. Perelli tires suck and they are expensive, if you’re dropping that much money you should have gotten some PS4S.
Why have a power operated boot? It makes sense on an SUV or fastback like my Kia Stinger. But not a sedan. As far as the BMW assistant, just change it to dopey. "Hey dopey". "How may i help you"? 😅
This isn't a car core performance car but it still has a very dynamic feel compared to most new cars. Steering is somewhat numb but sport mode adds in a pleasant heft

When i want to keep my 330e running when i get off i put it in sport mode to turn on the engine. Its the only way around the car turning off when exiting the vehicle if passengers are present.
Awesome video my dudes!!!! Very informative!!! My wife’s grandmother lives in Princeton. Keep up the great work. I love your channel!👍🏽
Thank you! Will do!
Love this car. Had zero issues either mine for about 55k now.
Do you recommend getting one of these I am considering getting one that is pre owned with like 46k on it I am unsure if it is a good car?
@@isaiahmalcolm7981 I do recommend it. Not a lot of space, but great commuter car when you plug it in
Have you ever tried without charging the battery & use the car as a normal hybrid set up like a toyota hybrid? Does it bring charge to the battery or does it stay on pure ice when there is no charge to the battery? Thanks!
It runs as a traditional hybrid when the battery is depleted. The engine will cycle on and off as needed and the battery gains charge from the engine and regen braking 👍
Give it few more years when warranty runs out, car is still new.
Th 330i is very reliable. Its not 2005 anymore
I'd like to install a dash cam on my 330. Which one do u use?
What about the biggest problem. Which is after the battery is depleted. That engine is not powerful enough to handle the extra weight.
The car comes with run flats, but when it is time to replace them do you have to replace them with run flats?
No, but it doesn't come with a spare, so that's something to think about.
Sounds the like material may have been rubbing against those trunk support rails that smashes groceries when you close the trunk.
You guys didn't talk about whether smaller trunk (compared to the 330i) is an issue in everyday use. To me, that may be a dealbreaker for families, especially families with young children, and will be lugging around strollers, sport equipment, etc.
I love German cars! I love y’all BMW! I love the red seats, I’m glad y’all have not had any problems with it
After the battery is depleted and the car is running solely on the gas engine, does it feel sluggish, given that the gas engine in the 330e puts out less than 200hp, and the battery weighs around 300lb?
It's fine when you are driving normally. If you want more power, use XtraBoost which just makes gas and EV work together to their max
I still don’t know how it feels to drive on electric power alone. Underpowered or no? Thanks !
It's faster than most traffic still, under electric power
Always wanted to know if there’s a bad glare with the instrument panel. Are you able to read your speed or anything on the screen when the sun is beaming on it?
We haven't had any problems with that so far. The screens are angled just right!
@@CarConfections thanks for the reply! That was my major concern!

2 years not one problem
You should do a review of the M3.
The 330e is one of the best 3 series available.
Mine is 6 years old 71000 miles looking to trade for another 330e
Better hurry because they have discontinued it for 2025 model year in the U.S
I’m sure it’s cheaper to own a Volvo s60 or Acura tlx vs this!
Not the Volvo!
They are expensive to get serviced once the warranty has expired, but BMW seems to have actually listened to their customers complaints and are building cars that spend far more time on the road and less being serviced in the garage.
thats cheap asf for insurance they quoted me $399 a month lol or $4788 yearly!!!
Some of the annoyances you're mentioning are features that can easily be turned off.
Can anyone recommend me some Canadian automotive channels?
TheStraightPipes, ThrottleHouse, and Motormouth are my favorite Canadian channels
Runflats are a complete rip off. Next time take a look at some Yokohama Apex V601. Sporty affordable tire. Would have saved you a some money and they look better. Perelli tires suck and they are expensive, if you’re dropping that much money you should have gotten some PS4S.
Check engine lights on
Paying for run flats is unnecessary. Get a good set of Michelin tires and get a better ride for less money.
In Summary, No Issue
I got the vernasca and it wasn’t worth it. The leatherette is better
Wearing an Alfa Romeo hoodie while reviewing a BMW is peak snark. 😆
Alfa gave us nice a couple nice looking hoodies at an event we attended 🤷♂️
There's something funny about BMW dealerships existing in Kentucky. lol
Why have a power operated boot? It makes sense on an SUV or fastback like my Kia Stinger. But not a sedan.
As far as the BMW assistant, just change it to dopey.
"Hey dopey".
"How may i help you"?
😅
Assembled in Mexico
Review it after 30k to 80k miles
Car look dirty when clean
Most videos report a numb driving experience. Less sporty more luxury. Do you feel this is accurate?
This isn't a car core performance car but it still has a very dynamic feel compared to most new cars. Steering is somewhat numb but sport mode adds in a pleasant heft
the interior of the car alone makes me heady. it is a super nice car@@CarConfections
is the 10 gallon fuel tank a joke or is that actually the capacity? 😂
