I understand that some options will alter pricing and some dynamics, but at the end of the day, you did a wonderful service to a potential buyer of these ICE (and soon to be gone) 4-door sedans. Once again, many thanks. Cheers, David

In an age of tech-obsession, the Audi is the only car of the three to stay true to it's roots as a vehicle - the other's are too automated & digital for my liking. But to Thomas' point that's a matter of personal preference.

I have been lurking into this class this now 6year owning 1 iteration of the 3 series G20 (330i rwd) and two iteration of the a4 b9 (45 tfsi and s4 TDI currently). I also owned a bmw m4 competition as my week end car. I will share my feedback.
I owned the 330i g20 between my a4 and s4. From the test drive I found it brilliant. Sporty drive, engagement, no lag on input which is a real issue except on dynamic + s transmission on Audi.
But on the long term review, lots of comfort issue :
The suspension despite being adaptative is horrible for back passenger. For front it is ok, but there is lot of rumbling compared to competitor.
Steering is bad. It feel chunky at all time, very sensitive on highway so you need to keep your energy in driving. Fortunately drive assist are good but let you down at the most weird moment.
A problem for me also and annoying on long run, the combination of having the gas pedal a little too much to the right and a hard left armrest without leather even on higher trim was also not comfortable for knee and elbow.
Due to all of that I moved back to Audi. I would say it’s a much better all rounder, the s4 especially with all sport option is super engaging to drive when you want to drive, and super easy to lean on when you want to go easy.
Suspension is better, less noisy, steering is direct and soft on highway when you want it.
Sit comfort is great even on sport s seats.
My only grudge on Audi are :
Lag on input on standards driving mode
Left armrest a little too far from the natural driver position
Horrendous gloss black trim on center console (why Audi why)
Only for the s4 tdi, some lack of high pitch noise at higher rpm like the older v6 tfsi. But it has a good growl actually for a tdi even if it’s artificial. You would be surprise of how much cars use an internal/external sound system in fact 😂😂
My choice: well I have a s4 tdi which don’t have good residual because of general appreciation so lots of good used deal (sometime cheaper than 45 tfsi).
Save some money in front of competition buying a used good deal and buy a mx5 as a complimentary sport car would be my advice with the 20/30k you would win as diff.

I recently test drove all 3 and settled on the Audi myself. The Merc was tempting, but I am not a fan of those huge tablet computers and that ambient lighting. The subtlety (your very good choice of word) of that A4 interior did it for me. I'll take delivery end of May 2024. Same green colour too, as your test car.

The only difference is, if not mistaken, your car if it is an automatic and in the US had a full Torsen Quattro, not Ultra. Therefore 60/40 rear bias. They changed over to Ultra in 2019, but I believe the 2016 A4 Sportback and manual had Ultra. I love my 2018 2.0T Quattro, best car I've owned so far.

    • @georgealex19
      @georgealex19 ปีที่แล้ว

@@DQ333 true, but we’ll all end up with the ultra so there’s not much one can do about it. Both offer some advantages and disadvantages, the allroad had ultra since 2017 and I haven’t seen any big complaints, whilst I do see quite a few issues pop up with the torsen over time, apart from the low speed turn clunks. Amazing car, nevertheless

    • @georgealex19
      @georgealex19 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Looks-wise, indeed the facelift is quite similar, as all facelifts are, but the main difference is the tech refresh in the B9.5 and finally having a touchscreen in a car whose slogan literally is “advancements through technology”…. I much prefer the new and bigger mmi and new virtual cockpit plus over the old system with the wheel, which really seems dated to me. Now, I would have preferred keeping the mmi wheel for while-driving situations, but that’s it.

Interesting side-by-side comparison. All three seem impressive with a sensible amount of power.
I most like the cockpit of the C-class, but I don't think I could cope with the technicolor effect. I hope "black" is one of the lighting colors.
The engine noise of the BMW sounded intrusive, but maybe that is the point(?)

Great comparison. I have the Audi A4 45 S line (US), it's a wonderful balance of handling, comfort and sportiness. Feels rock solid on the freeways and regular roads alike. The S mode really unleashes the engine's capability. I also like the way they have tuned the transmission, by default it optimizes for efficiency, but depending on how you put your foot down, it can be a smooth and steady acceleration or a more aggressive burst of power (downshifting). The other reason I went for it was it was the only one that did not go for the fake engine sound into the cabin - kudos to Audi for keeping it real!

Great video. I love the ambient lighting in the Merc, but I also think the interior will become dated fast. It's almost a bit too flashy. (though it does look nice) I prefer the Audi. (I also drive an Audi) In terms of safety and distractions, I like the older MMI with the rotary knob vs the new Audi touch screen but I'm getting used to it. I've always thought of Audi as a car for people who actually like to drive vs someone who just wants to show off to their friends.

After my last experience with Audi, many others I know and their history of corprate deception I'd never even consider one again. I've never seen a car company so disinterested in their customers. I really love the way the Mercedes looks in the interior but I don't like you the lack of a simple knob or buttons for things like the A/C. I also like a normal gear shifter which unfortunately Mercedes hasn't offered in many years now. I'd go for prior years instead of either the C or 330 which has Head's up display another feature I love having. Ive had no issues with the seat and its very comfortable on long drives. Thanks for another great video.

Love the comparison. A lot of people have praised the C Classes suspension, steering and technology. I would've preferred if Mercedes had better build and material quality in the C Class. It would've been tops. That glossy center section just doesn't work and neither does the hard plastics on the lower half of the doors and dash for me. Especially since previous models were soft. The BMW and Audi may also have hard plastics there but they have less of it. And if the C Class came with their brilliant i6 diesel and petrol engines, it would've been a winner.

I bought the BMW M340i. I do not regret it at all. You are absolutely correct about the BMW steering which I find not good. My car before the BMW was a Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce. The build quality let it down compared to my BMW but to drive the Alfa had absolutely fantastic steering response.
If Alfa get build quality up to BMW standards then I would buy the Alfa for sure.
In the past I owned Mercedes models such as CLK and C Class from year 2000 to 2003. These cars rusted away absolutely rubbish quality. Therefore I will never buy Mercedes even if the new cars are better at rust prevention. Wasted a lot of my hard earned money.

Test drove the S4, M340I and C43 AMG. My decision was easy.
I previously owned a 2014 S5 and had problems with it since the day I picked it up. Awful customer experience and service experience with Audi. Add in the fact the S4 driving characteristics are mostly boring/uninspired, don’t care for the steering wheel, ugly slapped on tablet and just felt ‘meh’, it was easily the first eliminated for me.
The C43 AMG IMO is a worse car for a lot more money than the previous generation. With taxes here it was over 100k for a turbo 4 hybrid KERS system. Literally no one is asking for that in the public. Not as fun to drive, creaks from the cheap materials while asking for exorbitant prices. I was a previous generation owner. Incredibly disappointed.
The M340I was the third I drove and was the overall best IMO. Material finish inside is the best overall quality of the 3, I found the seats most comfortable for me and appreciated the manual thigh support. Most enjoyable drive, even with x drive you can have fun with it regardless. Actually in the minority in preferring the LCI to the pre-LCI. But I also set and forget the climate system here. The only thing I miss is the previous generation shifter.
In the end, pretty obvious what I ended up going with, the M340I xdrive. Have had her about 3 weeks so far and it’s been great.
