This is an amazing new drone plane!!! It is acrobatic too. It is durable. I do not do well with planes...but this thing is amazing. Glad you had help plane mode.

It looks like they sent you two right vertical stabilizers! Won’t matter in drone mode much or even stabilized flying but will probably mess with manual flying should you ever attempt it. This is a great toy. As others have said, fairly fragile and the plane mode stalls into a stability ruble so you have to fly it close to full throttle most of the time (the plane mode on this isn’t a bad EDF trainer)
Edit* looks like they were installed facing inwards vs outwards, just looked off at first. I doubt it matters much.
I wondered why an experienced UAV flier was having so much trouble with this after the XK X520/420 and other Vtols have been out for so long. Then a search showed that though every man and his dog has had a crack at (& almost universally endorsed) the 520 you don't appear to have done so. Don't feel too bad about your first attempt. My first (& first plane) flight of the 520 lasted 1.5 seconds! ;-) Now covered in tape & glue but still flying and I love it. This looks a bit more delicate but for someone with the right skills will probably be another good-un.

That's really fun! I fly drones and now I'm trying airplanes, I bought a glider made by XK, as a starting point. The main difference for me was to understand that the Right Stick makes the airplane up and down the nose and the Throttle gives power and drones are different. But it's worth it! I think you should keep flying airplanes and drones

Hi Captain Steve, good to see you back and I hope your eye is better now. I've just bought one of these and I'm not sure it makes a great deal of difference but you definitely had the tail fins in the wrong way round (slanted inboard at the top rather than out.)

I'm glad to see you've reviewed this one. I had the Convergence and it dropped out of the sky on the first flight and I sent it back and didn't buy another one. This one has much better flight times as well as the hover mode. The Convergence was way overpriced.
If someone could come out with a form factor like this with GPS it would be killer.
Nice job on the multiple camera angles. I looked at the Convergence and the Mini for a long time but they both have mechanical and stability issues. This is going to be my fifth XK aircraft because they're pretty close to the best RTF company in the business. If it helps, I almost always fly winged aircraft in FPV. It's much more intuitive to me and I seldom crash. It's when I try to fly LOS like the old guys that I wind up hunting for parts in the grass. :)
Good review. I looked at the Convergence a while ago. The X450 is about 130$ cheaper and it comes with a radio. Might have to pick one up. It could be a lot of fun. A break from flying my helicopters and drones.

I enjoyed the video. I have the Eflight Mini-Convergence that is similar in size to this plane and flys better than the Convergence. Horizon Hobby improved the transition programming and it performs and flys great. Also, it has SAFE which is a big help during the transitioning process. SAFE allows an inexperienced plane (or quad) pilot to have relaxing fun. I am glad your eye is doing better.
I tend to agree. I also have a Mini Convergence and it flys much better than the larger convergence. Also and this is a huge plus for us RC pilots. It can use the same multichannel radio as our other planes. I can also control the length of flight by the battery I use. The FAA won’t let us fly FPV anymore at sanctioned airfields so that is going to make some people move to quads. To me LOS flying is LOS flying

To fix the overextended motor pods, just disconnect the battery. Then, gently pop em back horizontal. .UN PLUG FIRST.

Looks like fun. Definitely should leave the airplane mode to the experts. Those guys definitely know how to fly their planes. I still can’t figure out how they get all of them into their cars without damaging them.

I worked at bae systems at samlesbury uk the airfield was fully operational as an emergency landing strip
At lunch time one guy used to go flying his rc jet plane it was very big but it was faster than a scalded cat it was stunning and boy could he fly it

I was originally going to order the X 520, but I picked this one instead, but I figured the KK 450 might be better.
Could we enquire if your X450 is still in flying condition. All our X520 V-tols (2 years+ old) are still flying each weekend but our X450s almost always go home to wait for parts! :D

I like this. I think it would be nice to have another Plane besides my Apprentice which I love. The Price is right for sure. I think a extra battery or two would make it perfect. It is different to go from Drone to Plane as your friends showed. They're good with Planes. I still am careful with my big plane and I've managed to break everything but the Fuselage and motor so far. So yeah I have a few spare parts if I need them. Glad your eyes is getting better.

the one I got died while hovering for 1.5 min. that is the total flight time it has by the way. perhaps I got a bad one but, my mini convergence is still flying
I’ve seen this drone on another channel, and it looks pretty good.
Brilliant video and great to see you trying something new. More of this plz. - But maybe a little unfair to the drone/plane to start out in 15 m/sek wind, (it's a little windy) cause you rarely do that with drones. Love your plane comrades trying to "fix" things, but most of all,,, that drone/plane looks like level two for most RC pilots. Maybe you should introduce a "level" scale ;)
I fly RC planes here in the UK , winds are ALWAYS 15 to 25mph minimal lol, usually it's 25 to 40mph, the vertical mode would be funny in that lol.

Yeah, flying a GPS quad is a world easier than flying a RC fixed wing. My club mates I have utmost respect for their flying skills. It's a different world. Steve, you gave it your best shot and the craft seemed to survive!?😂

That seems to be a nice little plane , drone , kite ? , whatever but anyway it looks neat . I've never flown a plane before , do you think this would be a good one for a beginner Cap ?
Very easy for beginner if no wind (then it doesn't push the nose down). Also don't do like me and get your right joystick movement mixed up with up and down (too many years of flying FPV).

Hi Steve, I was getting quite miffed at you constantly saying “ quad mode “, but then I realised you had an eye injury, so I can understand you were seeing double in certain aspects of the flight. I know it’s been a year but I just wanted to comment...you know?
Quad mode is for the people familiar with how a quad flies..... not exactly that it has 4 motors. :-)

According to the link to purchase it. It says can't be shipped to the United States.
Try again and look for some option to click on to allow it to be shipped to the US. I've heard people mention this often and eventually they figure it out. I think the website is not designed well.

Hi Captain am from a Island with lots of wind my question is if it will be difficult to fly and also how high it can go and how many minutes it can stay in the air thank you.
This would not be good in too much wind. Flight time is around 10 minutes.
Their website states doesn’t ship to USA. Too bad I really wanted one. I had the eflite mini convergence and it was crap. Gave it away after two flights.

I had thought about giving up on my DJI drones I have three and going with this but I don't think I have the capabilities of flying something like this back to d j i I love my standard 3
It's great to learn on. You will be fine. Even in forward flight mode you can always save it by flicking to drone mode. Trust me.

I am a beginner at drone flying and today the wind is blowing at 20 km/h and my Eachine E58 would just fly in the direction of the wind. It was nearly impossible to have any control, even with max trimming. Is this normal? Much appreciate your help.
