I feel like they should have focused on Obi-Wan and Vader’s relationship with flashbacks and an introspective look on Obi-Wan’s thoughts and emotions on the events of Episode 3. The final two episodes showed how much potential that concept could have had.
Tbh an Obi Wan / Vader series should pretty much write itself… I really wanted an episode of Vader in his Fish Tank and what’s going through his head in those moments alone..
I don’t get the people calling for flashbacks. The same people who have been saying it was too slow. We saw their relationship in the clone wars… there’s nothing left to say really. Flashbacks would have been cool but for fan service only
Well, the final two episodes are a third of the entire series so i think they did succeed at doing that lol, though some of the previous ones could’ve had it for sure. Especially episode 4 that was the weakest and also the shortest
That one part where Obiwan finally sees Anakin's exposed face for the first time, illuminated by the blue light from Obiwan's lightsaber, and he says "I am not your failure, Obiwan. You didn't kill Anakin Skywalker, I did." made me think that maybe he was miraculously forgiving Obiwan in that moment. But once his face started to become illuminated red and he says "The same way I will destroy you." I was like well shit.
I feel the exact same way about the prequels. For about 5-10 years online it was MASSIVELY popular to hate on them. It generated clicks. But now that I’m older, now that we’ve gotten the prequel trilogy. I can say I enjoy the prequels more than I ever did as a kid. Let us all just enjoy this wonderful franchise together.
As a kid who grew up in the early 2000’s, any scene between Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen brought me so much joy. I like Darth Vader, but I’d love to see more of Hayden as Anakin. A limited series that brings back Natalie Portman as Padme and Hayden as Anakin, expanding upon their relationship whilst on a secret Clone Wars mission would be really cool.
Also scenes where they have chemistry that is miles above the prequels. Yeah, we can still look back and appreciate what they did more as time not only goes on, but gives us shows like these which give better context to stuff that needed more time in the prequels and better handling and execution. However, that is also why we have to remember that there is a reason we still cannot view the prequels as this god-tier level of filmmaking that the things that didn’t make them work as films, since similar issues befall The Hobbit and Fantastic Beasts…more so with Fantastic Beasts.
There is a Vader comic that is set directly after episode 3. They should adapt that into a series. It would be something completely different from what we’ve seen.
Really loved how Vader’s voice phased in and out when his suit was damaged. Tied up the loose end of how Anakin went from sounding like Hayden to James. I know it was always implied but I appreciated the small detail.
@@ryana.g.p.7760 I'm not saying it'd a rip off, yet it added to the overall lore. One side of his mask was torn open from Anakins master, the side torn open by his student. Yet the only one who was able to get his to willingly take off the mask was his son Luke who brought him back from the darkness
It's weird, but the Star Wars prequels are aging very well, and I think that the Kenobi series is accelerating that process. Take Hayden Christensen for example, his casting and subsequent portrayal of Anakin/Vader wasn't met with the most positive of receptions, but now he's beloved as those characters and has cemented his legacy in Star Wars lore. I don't know if I'll be able to say the same about Daisy Ridley and the "Skywalker" trilogy movies lol, but I'll keep on open mind.
I dont understand how anyone can Phantom menace and Attack of the clones are actually good movies. Revenge of the sith on the other hand has always been a great movie imo.
They're not aging well at all, they are still as terrible as they day they where released, but the kids who saw them back when they came out are aging, and they liked them back in the day, because you know, kids. And there's nothing wrong with that, if you like something you like it, but the movies themselves are objectivly bad. Bad writing, bad acting(mostly due to the bad writing) everything looks sterile and clean and boring, the plot is absolutely moronic if you stop to think about it even for a few minutes. I don't actually hate the prequels, but I was never a HUGE Star Wars fan to begin with, I liked the original Trilogy for sure, I think the first 2 are very good movies, while the third is a bit less great imo, but still a very enjoyable watch. When the prequels came out, I was excited to see them ofc, but they felt like a let down in basically every single way, but yeah, I don't hate them or anything, even though they are not good movies.
@@TheOdMan Actually, I WASN'T a child when they released (15-21), and I had enough sense to feel conflicted about them at the time. I'm not a "huge" Star Wars fan either (never saw Ep 8 or 9, no spinoffs), but I believe the prequels HAVE aged well. They have aspects I didn't fully appreciate when they first released. Is part of it still nostalgia for a different time and style? Perhaps! 🤔
@@Jonas-ej7id Ep 1 and 2 always lacked the more sophisticated qualities of the original trilogy (script, story, acting, etc), but they make up for it with atmosphere and spectacle. There's something to be said when I still want to re-watch a "bad" movie...

@@domphilbrick yeah I get that and that’s a fair opinion… but I just love the force awakens… i thought it was a really nice set up even if it was the same beats as a new hope, and talking about creativity, the last Jedi is probably the most creative Star Wars film imo… I just wish TROS wouldn’t have backtracked and instead just have continued the story naturally. I like ROS, but I hate almost all the dialogue. It just sounds like it was written by someone who has never had a human reaction before. Makes me cringe every single time. The final saber fight, tho good, goes on for too long aswell. It should have stopped before lave surfing. One ridiculous set piece to the other haha… but there are definite great moments in it which I think can be said for every single Star Wars property.
When Vader says “I am not your failure obiwan”…that was definitely anakin. Deep down, there is still love with these characters and that’s why they can’t finish each other off. People got so mad when Vader let Kenobi go in episode 3 of the show, but to me, it made perfect sense. Vader can’t stand what Kenobi did to him, but he will always be his master and he will always have respect for him. And when Kenobi is around, that light side comes out so much that even Vader can’t resist.
....obi wan not killing vader is one of the dumbest piece of writing anyone has ever written ....why would obi wan let vader live for a 2nd time after seeing what vader is capable of sheer stupidity ...vader kills millions of people later in the timeline just because obi wam lets him live for no fecking reason
@@digontozahid if obi wan killed darth Vader he wouldn’t of restored balance to the force and the emperor would have killed loads more so it does make sense, Anakin was still the chosen one, if you didn’t get that from the first 6 movies then you might need a rewatch
I worked on the prequels making lightsaber props. Spent time with Ewan and Hayden on set, so was very pleased to see them together again. They're lovely people. There were things I loved. But there were things I didnt like about this series. Most notably the film making process of it all, directing choices, cinematography, production design and parts of the writing.
I have to agree as well, one of my biggest gripes with this series was how cheap it felt. For a project this big I was hoping a lot of set pieces would be more grandiose in scale akin to a big budget movie. I don't know what Disney's deal is with the setting always being a boring endless desert planet.
Yeah this series' direction, choreography, CGI (in some places) and music among many other things was so surprisingly...amateurish and *cheap* feeling. The worst offender was definitely the writing for the most part. Also, would it have killed them to give us a LIVE ACTION Clone Wars flashback with Obi-Wan, Anakin, Asoka, and Captain Rex?
“Imma ignore the fact that this show was 90% plot holes, writing issues, poor editing, dreadful cinematography, and completely bland music and just focus on the 10% nostalgia bait”
The homeless Clone in the second episode nearly broke me. That little pause where we’re not sure if he maybe recognized General Kenobi, and Obi-Wan looking at him wondering if maybe they had served together. Such a perfect moment of Obi-Wan confronting his past.
@@properduction2586 it’s fine to not enjoy all of this stuff, but just accept that some people will enjoy and find meaning in things you consider low quality
The show made me realize that, although I don't like much about the prequels, I really like the characters. It was amazing to see Ewan and Hayden back in these roles. Also, the kid who plays Leia was brilliant for such a young actress. Loved that!
I found it absolutely fascinating to read the book version of revenge of the sith, and realise that with just a little bit of tweaking (basically adding context and thoughts), it was a great story with thoroughly compelling characters.

My single favorite shot/moment in Star Wars is now the high angle shot of Vader kneeling on the ground and screaming, "Obi-WAAAAAAAN!" with the suit's voice modulator maxing out, mixing with Hayden's voice. It's so powerful and sums up this character perfectly. Yes, he's scary, badass, and ridiculously powerful...but he's ultimately broken and always will be. It's heartbreaking, terrifying, and tragic all at the same time.
The delivery of that by Hayden elevated what could have been cheesy. You hear so many emotions in that yell. It’s part anger, part pleading, and part frustration. In that final moment you really feel the torture Anakin/Vader is going through. It’s hard to tell if he wants to kill Obi-Wan, or if he wants to be put out of his misery.
I loved The Mandalorian, so i'm not a disney-starwars hater. But this show was a shock to me. The writing felt like it was done by children. SPOILER ALERT - The escape of Leia in Obi-Wan's coat - The Leia chase scene in the forest - The super dumb storm troopers looking for a jedi and a girl on a transporter - Obi-Wan not being able to walk around a barrier - The insane plot convenience, like Bale Organa telling EVERY secret in a holo-message These and like dozens more made it inacceptable for me, and, to be honest, the fact that Chris accepted those writing mistakes just like that makes me very worried about Shelby Oaks :(
Dude. Star Wars is full of stupid stuff. It’s a story about space wizards. That’s what makes it fun. It shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Star Wars fans should realize this. It’s should never be taken too seriously and just have fun with the story.
@@matthewstrey5606 Just because there is "magic" stuff doesn't mean we can just throw abord all logic. There's a difference between inner logic and outer logic. The inner logic has to work within the rules of Star Wars. You can't just do one thing in one Star Wars movie and then completely contradict that in the next. That's annoying and poor storytelling. It's possible to do that well, Mandalorian shows that. And having fun doesn't mean telling absolutely absurd things that destroy the established Star Wars lore.
@@huawafabe Disney is now in charge of creating such lore. They can create their logic. Star Wars has been full of contradictions from the beginning. Disney tried taking a risk with the TLJ and it went terribly with some of the fan base. So now they think they have to play it safe. Because safe is the only thing that can please most of the fan base. Telling a good story In Star Wars means having contractions and absurd plot points. @@matthewstrey5606 I totally disagree, with the perfect example being called "The Mandalorian" (but also Rogue One for instance). So it just depends on who is writing and directing, and IT IS possible. Disney should have learned from the sequel trilogy hate and just get some good writers that are worth the millions they cost. Obi-Wan felt like it was written by children, which completely ruined it for me. There was barely any drama, everything was just ridiculously resolved by plot convenience and horrible character decisions. Star Wars can be dark, you saw that in Episode V and VI, it can be fun too, which you saw in Episode I that I like nowadays (I already lowered my standards in hindsight). I have high hopes about 'Andor', the series coming in August, it was done by the Rogue One creators, which was exactly the Star Wars we need, and the trailer looks good.

I’m happy after all the bullshit Disney did with the Sequel Trilogy.
And we're seeing WHY we didn't get to see this sort of stuff.... Because film makers and show writers ruin what we once loved. This didn't enhance the prequels films as much as it made A New Hope completely worthless. We never got this in the past because Hollywood used to actually take their creative integrity seriously, now it's literally nostalgia bait with no good writing or ideas at the helm and I guarantee not a single person can tell me that's not what Kenobi represents. Bad writing that manipulates our nostalgic brains into enjoying it, the fact people like this simply because they rehashed everything from revenge of the Sith is actually quite pathetic and shows how low the bar has become for Star Wars.

McGregor is so good in this role. Considering how daunting it must have been for him when he signed up for the prequels, he showed a lot of confidence and was probably the best thing about those films.
Probably because he knows it’s not good. He made this review more as a statement against the “toxic fandom” than an actual review about the show being good.
How can anyone even pretend to consider themselves a valid critic of the medium when they're actively terrified of criticising films/tv shows now? We criticise products as a means of maintaining high standards and that becomes ever more paramount when you have such a large following who rely on your opinions. It's not inherently negative so long as its constructive and rational, and the fact is, the vast majority of the complaints made against this show are constructive and rational, and especially with regards to glaring plotholes, contrivances and things that just muddy the waters of Star Wars continuity. There's a reason why this show has a mediocre 75% critic rating, and even worse 65% user rating on RT; it's because it's a mediocre, lazily written show, elevated only in so much as its cheap fan service and rememberberries. It's a shame as once upon a time, Chris would be able to point these things out as any good critic should and I've relied on those rational reviews to influence what I've watched in the past. His overinflated praise for these bland Disney shows & movies are reallyyyy making me doubt his skills as a critic and he’s playing up the annoying defense that recent Star Wars and Marvel fans parrot: that people should be thankful for any “content”, that people should move on and not say anything negative if they don’t like it, to just enjoy it for the action and one-liners and cameos, bla bla bla. Feels like he’s kissing up to these directors and showrunners with the hope of working with them in the future…
@@Eirex Yep, totally agree. There are plenty of channels out there that do nothing but heap praise on everything they consume, particularly surrounding Star Wars. But this guy is supposed to be a critic, and built his entire livelihood on this platform based on that. As soon as he gets a break in terms of making films, all integrity goes out of the window.
The show helped explain why Obi-Wan was so cold to Vader in a New Hope too. He witnessed some of the atrocities Vader had done up close and personal. And that last duel, Vader made it clear that Anakin is no more and he considered himself a whole nother entity now.

With Vader out of the picture, the Empire might've fallen sooner. Alderaan might've never been destroyed. None will ever know just how many people died in service of Obi-Wan's morals. All we know is that they died. Writers wrote themselves into a corner and solved it by making Obi-Wan a villain. Nice.

Despite all the flaws with the show I honestly enjoyed it. Seeing Ewan and Hayden as Obiwan and Anakin was awesome to see. I've always had a soft spot for the prequels and seeing a show that pays tribute to that trilogy was great.
I personally don't feel the same way as Chris, I thought that the Obi Wan series was a highlight of Disney's mishandling of the Star Wars franchise; I thought the character of Reva was written really poorly; I thought the decisions they made Vader and Kenobi do were poor and not thought out, etc etc. That being said, I love the optimism and enthusiasm he gives the show because it reminds me why I even watched the show in the first place, so thanks Chris for reminding me to not be so critical and just be happy that we're even getting to see Kenobi throw down with Anakin once again
I'll say something right off the bat: I think Lucas actually helped to very simply, and quickly, explain Kenobi's lie to Luke about his father being "betrayed and murdered" by Vader. When he and Yoda learn of Anakin's involvement in the slaughter of the Jedi at the temple, he pleads with Yoda to let him fight Palpatine because he wouldn't be able to fight or kill Anakin. Yoda is the one to tell him that Anakin is dead, betrayed and murdered by Vader. After watching the duel between Kenobi and Vader, it wasn't a huge leap for me to come to the conclusion that Kenobi hammered that particular "point of view" into his mind during his long exile. Now with that said, I think Vader's statement to Kenobi in the finale of "Obi-Wan Kenobi" was great. I could have accepted my previous interpretation, but Obi-Wan using Vader's own words was very poetic, imo.
That scene was literally there to let Obi Wan know Anakin is truly dead and it is just Darth Vader standing in front of him now. And yet Obi Wan walks away for Vader to continue taking over the galaxy. Sure. Great protectors the Jedi were. Don't know why they wanted his help 10 years later.

Always loved the prequels as I grew up with them. Didn't even know they weren't well recieved originally. The flashbacks along with Vader/Anakin scene made the show worth the watch
I liked the prequels. I was a kid when they came out too. They told the story I was expecting. Anakin becoming a Jedi, husband and father then falling to the dark side. It didn't mess with the continuity.
Except for a few bigger details still. I think there is a reason that if the other shows didn’t happen, we’re still gonna be saying Revenge of the Sith is probably the only movie that really needed to happen in terms of a prequel.
I've been a lifelong fan since 1977. I am done, SO done, with defending my love of all things Star Wars to other "fans." I thought Kenobi was a good show. Not great, not perfect. But good, fun, entertaining and ultimately satisfying. If you hated it, I don't care. I'm not interested in trying to convince you otherwise.
Thank you 😭😭😭 Any lifelong fan since the 70s who doesn't make it their job to inform newer fans everything they despise about anything Star Wars post original trilogy.... is a godsend. The purists make it difficult to love Star Wars these days. I'm happy you enjoyed the show! I did as well ♥️
@@erinlaboricua Same here i love all the major star wars films. i love the OTs the presquals and the squals (please don't hate on me) even if I there was one or two story elements I didn't agree with I love the character designs the music and the fights. i almost never hate on a film just because. I always try to see the good and the bad and the grey. i hate when people hate on a film because it wasn't like the originals. as an example in the x-men films one the most hated was "the last stand". Its not perfect but the music and the fights/stunts were amazing. but because the original and X2 was so beloved it got a lot of unessary hate. I love that film. Its so unfair to love or like a film or a tv show and be hated on by other people because you don't have the same opinion. THAT's bulling and totally unfair you guys. 😭😭🙂👍❤💔❣
Chris makes a valid point about how "negativity" has seemingly been monetized by certain TH-camrs in more recent years, who have realized that a large number of people out there simply want to wallow in an echo chamber of cynicism and hate.
Y'know, something I appreciate about this show is how it helps explain made Leia turn to Obi-Wan in her time of need in Episode IV. It explains how she knew him, and why she sent him that message. She really did consider him her "only hope"
I just watched the entire series in a matter of three days. After hearing such negative reviews of it, a friend of mine said it was amazing. I was reluctant but he invited me over and we watched the first four episodes back to back. I was blown away by how good the series was in the first four episodes. It was grounded in what typical humans would do like Obi Wan being depressed and like a vagabond, just drifting through life because he has this tremendous burden on his shoulders, in his eyes, failing the Jedi and failing Anakin only to be shocked that he is alive! Talk about trauma! I liked that he was rusty in his Jedi abilities and lightsaber skills when he was facing Darth Vader the first time. This just seemed so logical and grounded in reality imo. I enjoy Obi's character arc in this show, very touching! The final two episodes were simply amazing, especially the final fight between Vader and Obi! I was literally crying like a baby by just the interaction between them, not only the physical fight but the dialogue and mental obstacles being overcome by Obi. Was simply amazing and enjoyed every minute of it. I am a big critic of Disney and don't really like them as a company and the direction they are going but this show is an exception to the rule. I do not understand the criticism of this show specifically, others certainly but this show just showed a star wars story and nothing woke or politically imo. Hope Mando season 3 is good!
I really don’t get why people complained about Hayden not being de-aged enough, he looked great to me. I like Darth Vader, but I’d love to see more of Anakin. Give him a spin off series!
Because they didn't even try to make him look younger when they made obi wan look younger. I'd at least appreciate the effort, and this show didn't care at all about about good production quality
@@Revan-eb1wb obi wan looked younger than anakin, they can't make people look younger with makeup? Nicole kidman looked really young in the northman in the first act and then later looked exactly her age. I dont think the creators of this show put this much effort into it there are many technical issues going on
What I most enjoyed was the season, gave more of a reason why Leia would reach out to Obi-Wan for help. Before this series she was reaching out to an old man her father knew and trusted. Now it is she is reaching out to a man she has a connection to and deeply trusts. It gives more weight to the adult Leia and Ben relationship even though their actors never had a scene together in the original films.
@@JohnSmith-wh2ob I was just about to say that. Yeah it’s very strange to me, after seeing this series, that Leia just runs into the falcon and doesn’t have any reaction to seeing Obi-Wan dueling Vader in A New Hope. Even after Obi-Wan is struck down and Luke is mourning on the falcon, Leia is beside him consoling him as if it was only Luke who truly lost someone he cared about. Maybe it was because she had only spent a brief amount of time with him and never saw him again till the events of A New Hope. Or maybe it was because she was still so devastated by the destruction of Alderaan that she didn’t have the emotional bandwidth to process the loss of Obi-Wan. I don’t know, either way it’s pretty annoying when you have to jump through so many hoops just to keep the continuity intact in your head. That being said though, this was just a small detail that really bugged me. I still absolutely loved the Obi-Wan series. The season had a pretty rough start, but totally stuck the landing in my book. The last episode made the entire thing worth it.
@@silentgnome in the fourth episode when Reva is interrogating Leia, Reva says to Leia, “Obi-Wan is dead, no one is coming for you.” So Leia is aware that he also goes by the name Obi-Wan.
I know you likely won't see this but Chris, you've really healed a part of me that's been wounded seeing such negativity for this show. it's been a little heartbreaking seeing certain strong stances fuelled by derision - particularly around Leia and Reva - and you really put my exact thoughts into words; I _never_ thought we'd even _get_ this show. I was enthralled by the novelty of seeing Ewan and Hayden on the screen again in roles they were TERRIBLY criticised and ridiculed for two decades ago, and i feel having that appreciation for the context behind which this show was delivered was big for me. I was grateful to have it and I think they _did a good job._ Reva's arc is a poignant lesson delivered by a wonderful actor. Leia and Obi-Wan share a relationship that, by all accounts, Obi-Wan likely never thought he'd get again - the last person to make him laugh _before Leia_ that we see being _Anakin himself._ it touched upon so many beautiful threads and wove them back into ones that'd been hanging loose for 20+ years and I just. yeah. thank you for this video. I needed it and I wholeheartedly empathise :)
I’m glad you’re acknowledging the toxic wave that’s taken over a lot of discourse about literally everything, even down to fandoms. Completely sucks the joy out of what used to be a joyful experience, talking with other fans about the thing you both love
Chris’s review of The Rise of Skywalker will always be something that I will remember. In it, he talked about how Star Wars is always embraced by different generations. I grew up with the prequels and I love them to this day. Many kids will grow up with the Sequel Trilogy and Obi-Wan Kenobi and also love those too.
The only thing I was worried about was Hayden’s acting, and all my worries went away when he appeared in the flashback. I felt that he has honed his craft and the direction truly helped him out.
@@bencarlson4300 YES! I am happy with what we got though. Especially in the last episode. His scene with Obi-Wan was well crafted and shows his full transformation to Vader
The biggest compliment I can give this series is while I’m someone that feels no enjoyment watching the SW Prequel trilogy, this series did give me enjoy and excitement which made me at least respect the existence of the Prequels much more than I did before I watched this series.
There were the omnipresent plot holes that almost define Star Wars but that made me like it even more. I had a big smile on my face at the end of the finale and after all, isn't that what it's all about?
I love that you're a supporter Chris and it's great you're speaking your mind without thought to what people are hoping to hear. The main issues i have with the D+ SW content is i) lack of creative ambition (e.g. always pulling up from emotional gut punches and exploring moral ambiguity); ii) the Disney template is becoming more pronounced e.g. highly competent children and the force feeling a bit like wishing upon a star; and iii) an over reliance on Volume. They really need to get out of the studio more often. Keep up the great work.
@@al112v4 Why didnt Qui Jon force heal himself after Maul stabbed him? Star Wars was never this over the top. Disney is pretty much rewriting Lucas's story at this point.
I always found myself watching the newest episode at 1:00 AM, loving it, going to bed, then waking up to a world of nitpickers. Some people really just can't be happy. It does seem, however, that most can agree that the finale was incredible.
I liked it in many ways, and moments in the finale were so, so good - I'm just sad thinking what a better writing team and production design team might have done. Lot of missed opportunities. Lot of bungled opportunities. But had some great stuff in the mix.
Right now this series is a bit of a mess. They could come back later and fix some of the FX shots, maybe fill in some of the plot holes around Reva, tweak some things in the story line. But right now it needs work.
@@mainsource8030 Just because you don't agree with him here, doesn't change anything about how good he his at this job. Chris is still the same critic he's always been. Now Star Wars has always been very personal to a lot of people. Appropriately, not everybody views it the same way. For me the Grand Inquisitor in Obi Wan was majorly disappointing, but most people haven't seen Star Wars Rebels, so they don't really have that comparison.
You are spot on about anger being monetizable. There are "review" channels out there that are made up of almost entirely negative videos bashing on whatever the current mainstream show or movie is. Positive reviews rarely exist on these channels and if they do, they're from a time before they realised all the money was in pandering to the outrage crowd. Now their comments sections are full of people that use words like "wahmen".
Yep. I agree 100%. Those pathetic channels were already shitting the show BEFORE it even came out based on rumoured leaks of what was going to happen with certain characters. They were making videos about disney ruining Obi-Wan weeks in advance. People were ready to hate on it before they had even watched the first episode. It's honestly pathetic. The show has many problems IMO but too many people really wanted to dislike it before going in because "lol disney star wars bad".
I agree theres alot of money to be made and the drinker keeps spamming the same videos. But even though theyre getting old hes speaking straight facts.
It makes me wonder how someone could be satisfied with their life when everything they post is hateful. What makes it worse is that those channels are basically in an echo chamber, with a bunch of “yes men” in the comments only adding to the hate and rage.
Like Doomcock. I used to follow his channel until the hate just got out of control. Episode 6 was objectively a good episode. Disney has a lot of crap but they'll hit the nail on the head from time to time and the Obi vs Vader fight was one of those times.
Obi Wan is my favourite character and I was really happy to see Ewan McGregor back. I feel that people have their expectations so high that reality can never really compete. Like you said, for me watching every episode brought me joy.
As if the writing of the show is decent to begin with…Please stop using the bullshit excuse “ Your expectations were too high that’s the only reason you didn’t like it “…
@@properduction2586 nothing is perfect. Writing can be poor and inaccurate. For example, no one was speaking to you, and yet, your written response here implies that that someone was. Have your opinion my friend. I'll have mine.
I was reluctant to comment initially because as Chris said in the video. We shouldn't be ridiculed for enjoying something but there we go. Not everyone will like everything and that's fine. I enjoyed it and that's good enough for me.
my expectations were pretty high cause they could've explored so much with Obi-Wan and Vader; flashbacks, Obi-Wans PTSD, etc. really only need to watch episodes 5&6 but even then they weren't that good. Obi-Wan beating Vader I just don't buy at all. Obi-Wan who hasn't picked up a light saber in years beating Vader who's been training with Sidious and killing countless Jedi, he brought down a ship with the force gets beaten by someone who just picked up his lightsaber again a week ago? Obi-Wan throwing rocks at Vader? c'mon he brought down a ship with the force I ain't buying the fact he wouldn't just use the force as well to stop the rocks being thrown at him. everything good with the finale has already been done in the force unleashed and rebels when his mask gets cut in half talking to Ashoka was much more powerful (but they ruined it by bringing Ahsoka back to life because you can't kill characters in Star Wars anymore) and done much better imo. everyone has their own opinions but I expected much more. jealous of the people who got enjoyment from it.
Thank you!! Finally!! Why cant anyone find ANY joy in StarWars anymore!?! I enjoyed every moment that ObiWan and little Leia shared on the screen together. Had more heart than most TV shows and big budget films that I’ve seen for the past few years. Thanks Stuckman & ☮️
This show meant alot to me revenge of sith was the first star wars film I ever saw I was 7 and it was so nostalgic and awesome to see my child hood heroes again and really gave me chills to see hayden under the mask it really made the 2 characters of anakin and vader come together And the feels of when obiwan talked to leia about padme My only complaint was I wish uncle owen and aunt beru were in it more 😂
Chris Stuckmann you don't see any faults with this series? The transition from film reviewer to film creator is now complete I guess. What the new obi-wan series added to the star wars legacy. 1) Hunting sequences where 10-year-olds outrun adult bounty hunters, sith, and jedi. 2) 10-year-olds being wiser and smarter than adults. 3) Having lightsabers thrust through the chest is 100% not deadly. 4) Teleporting Villains, on par with Jason from Friday the 13 movies, and video games. 5) Powers fluctuate from Useless to superpowerful based on the needs of the plot, instead of being the constant that shapes the plot. 6) Obi-Wan is responsible for all the deaths in the original movies.
You are a film creator now, a director, you can talk with a special perspective here. And Also, you are a fan, who, just like me, never think about this moment... See series of starwars in live action.. and i am very very grateful. Cheers from Chile.
As a fan of only 2 months, I’ve seen everything from movies, spin-offs and cartoons. This series really had me on my seat. AMAZING to see the directors trying to give us more!
@@CharlesFlo305 Must be a rollercoaster of quality, right? The original trilogy is still perfection, prequels not as good but I'm glad people have begun to respect them in recent years while the sequel trilogy became a series of movies at war with itself. Star Wars was always known for building upon itself but the ST just takes & takes until nothing left. Have you checked out The Jedi Knight games? They carry the story on from the OT much better than the ST: original characters, Luke's academy, and far less repetition.
@@dadocta5168 so far I have loved it all. Original and prequel. The newer movies plot is a bit off for me and confusing but I love to see it all unfold. Graphics, old cast members etc. I’m currently playing the Fallen order game. So far it’s really great.
I'm a creative in Hollywood, and I've been watching Chris for years so it's important for this to be said... Since Chris took the leap into the directing pool his reviews have changed dramatically. He no longer grades movies and he will not say a single bad word about a Disney property (check the videos). This is so ridiculous. It's so obviously he's trying to play the Hollywood game because he's either afraid of Disney or wants to worm his way into directing Disney IP at some point. It clear as day... In fact, for a writer director to not point out problems with Obi-Wan and to say "I loved it" means he is either a terrible writer, terrible critic, or lying... You can love Obi Won, but there are incredibly poor elements to the show that an honest critic should point out. I personally don't have a problem with this because I am in Hollywood and clearly see what he is doing (every person in Dishonest-wood does this dance publicly), but don't turn on your camera and record videos where you're trying to fool your subscribers with your vanilla reviews. Just shut down your challenge and go direct movies. Or say "I am doing the Hollywood dance because I want to slobber my way into directing Hollywood films...". You built a fanbase by being a critic... but you're so clearly not doing that anymore. It's dishonest.
@@anonx111 Wrong. He's lying right to your face and then using his channel to raise money for his movie. If he wants to give honest reviews and raise money, all good. But he's taking your money and then trying to "play nice" with Hollywood so that he can get directing gigs. 100%. The problem is that I have watched nearly all of his video for a decade and the change is glaring. You want easy proof... Where is his "Worst Movies of 2021"?? Chris is no longer an honest movie critic which he was for nearly a decade. He's being dishonest and also asking you to finance his film... Ask yourself why a channel with 2 million subs doesn't generate enough money to finance an Indie Horror Film?? This is where the line should be drawn. He is using his fans for money, but then not being a honest critic.
It was such a Disney move to have reva somehow miraculously survive (for reasons that aren’t obvious at all) after literally having her body get stabbed through with a light saber lol
@@LarryLopez91 he’s supposed to be alive because he’s in the Rebels series. Don’t even know why they did that in the first place. With that being said, it wouldn’t be Disney/Star Wars if they killed off a female minority character! That wouldn’t be progressive enough for Disney if that happened!
There were many moments throughout the show I found super endearing. Kenobi's interactions with Leia were so on-point. The last two episodes really tied it all together for me.
You perfectly summed up my feelings toward this show. I went in wanting to be entertained and I was entertained. If it was “bad,” like a lot of people seem to want to force others to believe, I and they wouldn’t have come back every week to see what happened next. Did I have some minor issues with the show? Sure, but so what? The more I think about those issues the more they dissipate. I now have something that I can mull over when I’m daydreaming. If a show or movie or game can make me do that, it’s succeeded in having a positive effect on me.
There are literally people bashing Chris for liking the show in this comment section. The dude is right that he has to defend himself for loving something these toxic idiots don't. Star Wars fandom is just too much.
My issue is that they put more time and care into a series about a random mandalorian than they did with Obi-Wan. It’s fucking Obi-Wan! He’s arguably the most important character in the entire franchise. Growing up loving Star Wars, Obi-Wan has always been my favorite out of all characters, and I just feel like this was incredibly underwhelming. That being said, what were the best parts of this series? Obi-Wan and Vader interacting. Those two could sit down and have tea and I’m there for it on the edge of my seat. I love seeing more from the inquisitors too which we’ve never seen much of. But man, why did the budget seem so terrible for a Disney show? Why did I see obi wan’s lightsaber bounce off someone and not go through them? What was up with Tala slapping that storm trooper in the helmet? I’m torn. Some parts were so good and some parts were so bad
I agree with you it was so underwhelming and poorly written, I expected as much care as the madalorian, or at least close to that, but no, they didn't even give much respect to the Canon
You are definitely right about this sphere of TH-cam becoming more and more focused on whining and nitpicking everything, and never being satisfied with anything. It is nice to see that there are some TH-camrs who choose to be more positive and constructive. Thank you, Chris. With that said, I have to admit I was disappointed by a major portion of the show. I was not able to get emotionally involved until the finale. There, they finally got me with probably the most emotional lightsaber duel in SW (minus, Luke vs Anakin, maybe). Looking back, I think I would have wanted the show to really focus entirely on Obi and Anakin. Tie the present with their past, and so on. Leia was fine, but I really expected this story to be about Obi-Wan. We did not get enough of that.
Nitpicking ? This show has terrible writing and apparently if someone calls out dogshit writing it’s “nitpicking” ? Yeah huge thanks to Chris Stuckmann shitty reviews of a shitty Star Wars content, now I have standards for writing that apparently you simpletons don’t have..these will people will Consume product and then wait for next product…
well said. I think they handled the emotional journey obi-wan goes through really really well. I just wished they could have integrated it much more into his internal struggles, instead of having him run around the galaxy again
No. There is plenty of stuff they like. Top Gun, The Northman, Everthing Everywhere all at Once, Spiderman No way Home, The Black Phone, Cobra Kai and Stranger things season 4. Just because they criticize a lot of content doesn't mean they hate everything.
@@william9170 I think his point still stands, and is even acknowledged by plenty of channels out there. Critiquing things makes more views than praising them. But most, if not all star wars critics would probably love to exchange their views for some well-crafted, well-written star wars content
@@william9170 I don't have a problem with constructive and fair criticism. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm referring to the rampant amount of TH-camrs who capitalize on attracting hate mobs by complaining about, and nitpicking the hell out of, every popular show or movie that is targeted by those groups. It is a good way to make easy money off of people, but it is slowly lowering the value of online reviews.
Really sounds like you were giving an honest opinion about the show Chris. There is something in your voice while you are praising it, it's like you're about to cry :) Must be hell of a good Star Wars!
Yessss
I don’t get the people calling for flashbacks. The same people who have been saying it was too slow. We saw their relationship in the clone wars… there’s nothing left to say really. Flashbacks would have been cool but for fan service only
Well, the final two episodes are a third of the entire series so i think they did succeed at doing that lol, though some of the previous ones could’ve had it for sure. Especially episode 4 that was the weakest and also the shortest
All they needed to do was drop the shoehorned Reva storyline and just introduce her in her own show and it would have fixed most of the problems
No matter your thoughts on the show itself, Hayden and Ewan really showed up for this show. Hope to see more of Hayden!
I feel like Hayden was barely in it
He'll probably be in the Ahsoka show too.
Maybe a Vader spin-off series?

This is now an all time favorite Star Wars scene for me. All aspects of it were so well done!
💯💯💯
Also scenes where they have chemistry that is miles above the prequels. Yeah, we can still look back and appreciate what they did more as time not only goes on, but gives us shows like these which give better context to stuff that needed more time in the prequels and better handling and execution. However, that is also why we have to remember that there is a reason we still cannot view the prequels as this god-tier level of filmmaking that the things that didn’t make them work as films, since similar issues befall The Hobbit and Fantastic Beasts…more so with Fantastic Beasts.
They are too old, they would never especially after the backlash of Hayden in the flashback looking too old
Although de-aging tech is available, I think the Clone Wars series has delved on that.

You can count on one hand everything that was good about this show and that's one everyone says, yes it was cool but it doesn't save the show
It's weird, but the Star Wars prequels are aging very well, and I think that the Kenobi series is accelerating that process.
Clone Wars already did this several years ago (which Disney canceled). Just saying.
@@DPham1 Yeah was definitely disappointed we didn't get clone wars flashbacks, but I have hopes that we might get something in the ahsoka series🙏.

I love the concept of the prequels and the characters, the biggest problem is the dialogue, acting and plot of the 1st 2 movies.
Agree. That scene burned itself into my memory. The ultimate Star Wars moment. Deeply tragic.
It's like Darth Maul screaming "KENOBI!"
Star Wars Rebels did it first
I guess you haven't seen Rebels then.
SPOILER ALERT
- The escape of Leia in Obi-Wan's coat
- The Leia chase scene in the forest
- The super dumb storm troopers looking for a jedi and a girl on a transporter
- Obi-Wan not being able to walk around a barrier
- The insane plot convenience, like Bale Organa telling EVERY secret in a holo-message
These and like dozens more made it inacceptable for me, and, to be honest, the fact that Chris accepted those writing mistakes just like that makes me very worried about Shelby Oaks :(

Good to see a positive review of the show. It might have had doubtful choices, but it was awesome just to see it.

I mean she seemed to not really know him in a new hope and she clearly states in the message her father told her to contact him

What did you think of Andor? Considering that show is all political
Chris is AMAZING with words!! 💙😭💙
I really don’t get why people complained about Hayden not being de-aged enough, he looked great to me. I like Darth Vader, but I’d love to see more of Anakin. Give him a spin off series!
Because they didn't even try to make him look younger when they made obi wan look younger. I'd at least appreciate the effort, and this show didn't care at all about about good production quality
because he looked obviously way older. He had damn wrinkles. Or did he look like a 17 or 18 year old to you?
@@Revan-eb1wb obi wan looked younger than anakin, they can't make people look younger with makeup? Nicole kidman looked really young in the northman in the first act and then later looked exactly her age. I dont think the creators of this show put this much effort into it there are many technical issues going on
well it wasn't that good. You can Cleary see his age
Except she has absolutely zero reaction to Ben’s death so canonically it makes no sense
The last episode made the entire thing worth it.
it made no sense
@@prim34ev I think Leia never knew the Obi-Wan of Episode IV was his Ben because as a child she knew him as Ben.

There were the omnipresent plot holes that almost define Star Wars but that made me like it even more. I had a big smile on my face at the end of the finale and after all, isn't that what it's all about?
Welp, another video for EFAP to react, I guess. It'd be a dream come true if Chris talked to Mauler and crew about Kenobi.
I liked it in many ways, and moments in the finale were so, so good - I'm just sad thinking what a better writing team and production design team might have done. Lot of missed opportunities. Lot of bungled opportunities. But had some great stuff in the mix.

Now Star Wars has always been very personal to a lot of people. Appropriately, not everybody views it the same way. For me the Grand Inquisitor in Obi Wan was majorly disappointing, but most people haven't seen Star Wars Rebels, so they don't really have that comparison.
Couldn't agree with you more. I loved the series and just enjoyed the ride. Love the positivity of your channel as well.
Yea those channels are sad af and weird, the ppl that go there are definitely pathetic
Like you said, for me watching every episode brought me joy.

my expectations were pretty high cause they could've explored so much with Obi-Wan and Vader; flashbacks, Obi-Wans PTSD, etc. really only need to watch episodes 5&6 but even then they weren't that good.

Have you checked out The Jedi Knight games? They carry the story on from the OT much better than the ST: original characters, Luke's academy, and far less repetition.

I appreciate you man. Keep doing your thing.
