You missed something very important about episode 4. RIP the mouse droid that got shot by a stray bullet during the Leia rescue mission. Literally a more meaningful sacrifice than Wade.
Fun Fact: Hayden Christensen confirmed that he binged-watched The Clone Wars & Rebels in order to familiarize himself & his character again. I love that!💙
Reva surviving that *_TWICE_* is so stupid. Not only does it not make sense for her to not die from a lightsaber through the midsection, but like others have said, both enemy clones _and_ Jedi like Obi-Wan and Yoda checked out the aftermath of the temple. The clones are professional soldiers who are shown being very competent, and Jedi like Obi-Wan can literally sense living beings (especially other Force-sensitives) though the Force. How Reva survived without medical treatment _OR_ being discovered by anyone is utterly nonsense. And the second time is just as bad. Both the Rebels and the Empire's forces took the only ships there (the Rebels only had two ships while there was no way for Reva to get on one of Vader's ships), so her making it all the way to Tatooine blasts the basic flow of time to bits from how stupid that was. On top of, y'know, completely negating any stakes or tension in the future now that it's established that it is totally fine for characters to survive getting impaled by lightsabers (guess Qui-Gon was some outlier despite being directly Lucas-approved).
Cinema is dying thanks to streaming services. They can drag it out and keep hype if it’s a series. It would have been much more meaningful to fans if they made it a movie. Why the fuck would Disney care about that though?
I feel Reva would have been a great character if she wasn't in this particular show. She would have been exponentially better if she were to be the next antagonist in the jedi fallen order series. Seeing as she and Cal have practically identical backstories with the only difference being Reva falling to the dark side and Cal staying in the light. Would have made for a good dinamic
@@minakothememequeen1281 I mean, almost every Star Wars property that used the Inquisitors did it better than the Obi-Wan Show. Not throwing them aside completely after episode 4 helps a lot, usually.
@@properduction2586 the problem is this is the only performance that shes ever given (as far as I know) so I wouldnt be surprised if she was actually a good actress and she was just ruined by directing and writing. I mean Hayden is pretty good, too, but Lucas decided to make Anakin a block of wood. they just also decided to make Reva an ANGRY block of wood. hard to act well as an angry block of wood.
I liked the part when Darth Vader had the high ground and said “bet Obi didn’t see that Wan coming” then he proceeds to crush Kenobi with the rocks. Truly shows that Vader isn’t all doom and gloom he has personality under the suit. Disney knew what the fans wanted and delivered big time, easily one of the moments in all of Star Wars.
In a earlyer version of the script Obi Wan and Darth Vader had the big duel at Vader's Castle on Mustafar mirroring the fight from Revenge of the Sith the only reason we didn't get that is because kathleen kennedy said "Fans would feel let down with seeing something we allready got" sounds like bull shit to me but i would have lost my metaphorical shit watching Obi Wan and Darth Vader have there rematch on Mustafar and would have been excited as hell watching the fight unfold
I like how Ashoka removes one half of his helmet and Obi Wan removes the other. Neither could fully free Anakin from his suit. Only Luke could take the helmet off completely. Good stuff
I loved that as well! Ashoka and Obi were the closest to Anakin, but didn’t have the strength to turn him to the light, maybe together they could have, but it’s right that only Luke could turn him to the light
@@jacktait9849 Wade was one of the random pilots who flew a snowspeeder in episode 4 of Kenobi. He gets blown out of the sky by Reva throwing an explosive device at him. The other pilot yelled something to the effect of, "Wade!!!" He was a side character that got maybe 30 seconds of screen time.
It’s unfortunate to see Disney valuing running their acquired moneymaker licenses (Marvel and Lucasfilm) through a hundred TV shows of mid while continually compromising their original TV animation programming where the best quality exists and its creators can really show as individuals through it
Marvel have doing a pretty solid work. The most recents projects like Moon Knight and Doctor Strange really holds up to me. Can't say the same for Star Wars
My biggest problem is that there are literally like no aliens in this show, in a new hope there were more practical effect aliens than there were regular humans
Its a problem with these new Disney SW shows, either there are no aliens, or the aliens that are there don't look like what they are supposed to. Ex: The Grand Inquisitor looks like an albino bald human, barely resembling what he looks like in Rebels, or his species in RotS. Or Cad Bane, who again look to little like his own species in other live actions stuff, his cartoon version is more accurate.
Yeah. As a big fan of Star Wars' alien species, it pains me to see so few of them used as prominent characters in the live action films and shows. Same goes for droids; sometimes it seems like Disney doesn't know what to do with droids.
I loved the parallels between Obi-Wan and Ahsoka's fights with Vader. They both destroyed half his mask, revealing parts of Anakin underneath, but only Luke was able to remove the whole mask- and by choosing not to fight.
When seeing Anakin’s face, Luke also saw something different from when the other two saw Anakin’s face. Ahsoka and Kenobi were met with seeing the anger, the evil, and vengeful from Anakin. Luke saw the happy, sad, and broken old man.
the final episode was cool.. until you realize Kenobi left Vader alive to continue terrorizing the galaxy for literally no reason, retroactively making Kenobi's hands bloodier than we'd like to admit
althought most episodes sucked i still hope they continue the last episode seems pretty interesting and if they keep doing that it would make the series 10x better
Don't worry, this completely boneheaded decision to leave Vader alive is counterbalanced by the inquisitors' even more ridiculous decision to leave Leia alone after the series ends instead of immediately taking her again to fish Kenobi out for a second time. Sure, Vader doesn't know about Leia, and Palpatine told him to stop pursuing Kenobi, but the inquisitors do, and it's their job to kill jedi. If you have no moral barriers to kidnapping children, like the inquisitors, and you could have a Jedi dead in just a couple days, why wouldn't you do it a second time? Maybe they don't do it immediately, I don't care. You can't tell me the inquisitors would wait any longer than a few days to kidnap Leia again, especially when all of them know that this would work because it worked so well for Reva the first time. You can be absolutely certain that they'd be all over this, given that they talked so often about being next in line to be the Grand Inquisitor. If you could walk up to Vader and say "yeah, I killed Kenobi", you'd probably become the Grand Inquisitor on the spot.
@@caiawlodarski5339 jedi kill tons of people, especially when it's necessary to do so, like saving others for example. kenobi did exactly that throughout the show
And on a final note, pay close attention to when the voice modulates between Hayden and James specifically when he says "I am not your failure, *Obi-Wan"* it's such a jarring shift that it could be written off as an editing mistake. But throughout the series Vader has only ever referred to Kenobi as Obi-Wan, and Master when he has the advantage. But in this particular scene it is clearly Obi-Wan talking to Anakin. I think Anakin was going to say "I am not your failure, master." But Vader interjected at the last moment to deny Obi-Wan as much closure as possible.
@drttyu liqm This isn't about fan service, it's about doing the character justice. Fan service is Luke Deepfaker slicing a hallway of droids in an unearned climax to a more mediocre season of Mandalore. The second Vader x Kenobi showdown is a fucking masterpiece.
The real story behind the production problems of this series is that the project was roughly scrapped 4 times. Deborah Chow has expressed she wanted a more broody story following the character of Obi Wan. This isn't the project she had hoped for and the rumor is Kathleen Kennedy stepped in when the story seemed too grim for their Disney brand.
that is the funny thing, George Lucas was not the best director, but he did let people do what they thought would fit and only really stepped in if it was too much. It was under him did we get the very dark origins of the Dark Troopers.
Wouldn't surprise me. Alex Hirsch's S&P saga on Twitter is a shining example of how Disney shoots its creators in the foot whenever they want to make something great. Maybe that's why Doctor Strange 2 ended up being so much more formulaic than people hoped for. I don't doubt that some great ideas went into that and were promptly ripped out by the Brand Managers.
I actually enjoyed the acting in this show. Everyone seemed to give it their all. But the writing just...didn't help them. The writers did not care. Owen is such a talented actor. I thought the actress who played Leia was good too. Kid actors have a tendency to be annoying or unconvincing, but I think she did a good job. Reva's plot had potential, but the writers didn't bother to make any of the plot in the show the least bit coherent, so I can't help but cringe hearing her character is getting a spinoff.
Deadass with the Reva show? God I'm so sick of Disney shoving pre-existing characters aside to shoehorn in bland, obligatory-feeling girlbosses in every damn star wars thing they make
@@sophieamandaleitontoomey9343 yup. biggest disappointment of the series how they hyped up the gi in trailers and did fuck all with him in the actual series
@Sophie Amanda Leiton Toomey My thoughts EXACTLY. Sucks extra balls for me as the president and sole member of the Grand Inquisitor Fanclub (tm) to see them do him this dirty
Is it really a coincidence that the best Star Wars stories that have come out of Disney so far have all NOT been directly connected to the Skywalker family? The Bad Batch, The Mandalorian, and Jedi Fallen Order. It's pretty clear that the writers just don't know how to make a cohesive story around the Skywalker family because their stories were already complete. But Disney is just too scared to step away from them because they are the characters the fans fell in love with. Hell, even the the things that don't directly require the Skywalker's involvement still have the Skywalker's in them at some point. JFO has the Vader scene at the end, Mando Season 2 has that Luke scene, which those are both amazing scenes, but it still proves that Disney just can't help but shoehorn the Skywalker's in. Anyways, sorry for the rant lol
Wow. JFO was Disney? Really? More like a studio subsidiary to Electronic Arts. Please. The Vader cameo at the end is perfect there, however. It shows neatly that, even after all he learned our big boy Cal is only a fruit fly in the food chain. It's also not shoehorned at all, Vader is ultimately the commander of the Inquisitors, and while hunting Cordova's holo-thing was Trilla's pet project, ultimately this is something Palpatine himself was thirsting for since thate Clone Wars arc centred around the same list of Force-sensitives. Vader's involvement was not at all unwarranted, especially as part of the climax. It is even foreshadowed by the Ninth Sister after her last fit of rage: You can't stop the Empire. Comparing it to Luke Deepfaker's unearned save of Din and his fellows who were neutered for the sake of fan service, is borderline sacrilegious to the excellent writing in JFO and the higher standard Mandalorian is capable of (as demonstrated by season one). To illustrate my point, in that Mandalorian season that is called Book of Boba Fett, writers undo the conclusion of Mandalorian S2 in a heartbeat.
"the writers just don't know how to make a cohesive story around the Skywalker family because their stories were already complete." Bingo. They are profiting off fan nostalgia, but there is no creative reason to do it (and there never was). You don't pick up a finished book, scratch out "the end," and keep writing. You can only make the story worse that way. But they had all this money invested in purchasing Star Wars, so of course they weren't going to leave it alone. The result was inevitable.
I'll always have the fond memories of being at the red carpet premier at Celebration 2022, and watching the first two episodes on a gigantic screen with 10,000 other Star Wars fans. An experience like none other. Ewan and Hayden completely stole the show every time they were on stage together.
The lack of flashbacks to the Clone Wars era was infuriating. Honestly I felt I received less Obi-Wan in the Obi-Wan series than I did in Episode II and III.
They had flashbacks when it was necessary, it would be pointless to have too many flashbacks especially when it's assumed you watched all of the preceding stuff already.
@@racool911 the had a recap because they had to have a recap. We're not talking about a recap or verbal references. We're talking about showing shit that happened during the prequel era. And my comment is also to address entirety of Disney Star Wars. Everything from movies to games. It's all about empire era stuff. Storm troopers and tie fighters.
This show is infact one of the shows of all time. The lightsabers ignite. The actors played their parts. And the writing, was in fact thought of. All in all, Obi-Wan Kenobi certainly exists. I give it a /10
I personally couldn’t get over the sheer lack of suspense in Kenobi. Yes, we know that Ben, Vader and all major characters lives for episode 4, but this is what really let it down. There was never an authentic feeling of threat which is fine - but add these stories to the new characters and make them compelling and mysterious! Reva and Tala were so let down and I think they could have been so much more interesting if written better :(
You could say that about most prequels. We knew obiwan, anakin, and yoda couldnt die in the prequel trilogy. We knew anakin would fall and become vader. That doesnt inherently make it less suspenseful
One small detail I love about the show is that the Imperial March only plays when Vader confirms he has no more sympathy left for Obi Wan. It’s really cool shit
Yeah, it's too bad it took ruining both Vader and Obi wan's characters to get there. Not to mention what they did to Leia.... Christ, this show was awful.
I'm forever going to be salty about the fact that Andrew Stanton COULD have been who wrote the show FROM THE JUMP vs just episodes 5 and 6. Like why not just have him on FROM the get go Disney? You know his roster. He helped write a LOT of really iconic and memorable, and good Pixar movies, including as far back as Toy Story. Meanwhile Harold has little to no experience. And characters as nuanced as Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi DO NOT belong in the hands of someone with cursory knowledge of Star Wars....yet that is exactly what happened. And this is the result. And if you like the result that's fine. If you don't that's fine too. A true fan of SW, will let people air our their opinions, and not say "you're not a fan you're a hater" if they have an opinion that differs from yours. If you're going to brush off those of us who wanted something deeper with "well Star Wars is never meant to be deep" you need to go back and rewatch The Mandalorian, Rebels, Rogue One, Clone Wars, the prequels, The Force Awakens (a lot of people agree that it had a LOT of potential even the characters), and the original trilogy. We have gotten better SW content. So the consistency should be there; it's there with Marvel. A few duds sure, but in their roster, it's mostly wins. To see so many go "it's just silly space adventures" is just a tad concerning. Because that's how Disney is seeing Star Wars too. When all of us know, it can be something much more meaningful. When it HAS been much more meaningful. I hope things can get better. For everyone. Because we deserve it. Especially the ones who are just seeing this amazing galaxy far far away for the first time. edit - well phase 4 is kinda rocky and Love and Thunder is an L so maybe MCU isn't as consistent as I thought lol
It's so easy to do. Disney has all the components to deliver, they're just too lazy to assemble it. Disney does not write good stories, none of the people they hire are talented - let alone posessing the genius that is necessary to carry on the legacy of George Lucas and the team of other geniuses involved in the making of the OT and PT. Star Wars has always had deep meaning, it's supposed to be mythology. But something like the Lucas movies can only come from a time when pioneers existed in screenwriting, practical effects, sound design. When they were allowed to exist, and allowed to thrive. It could only exist at a time when you had fascinating old actors to bring on in roles that deliver iconic, small things like Sebastian Shaw's BEAUTIFUL performance as Vader at the end of ROTJ. I don't think it can be done in this country, with these legacy companies full of trust fund babies, nepotism hires and insipid yes-men. For all the things Feloni has done, he hasn't done them because he's particularly talented - he just tries to deliver when no one else cares. I think Deborah Chow comes closer to understanding what needs to be done in these projects, but in this series, she dropped the ball on the basics. Bad shots, bad sets, bad music, and a script that had zero business making it through to a final cut. Now, I'd prefer that to someone who might be better at those things but have zero idea how to make Star Wars work (JJ and Rian), but this is an IP that Disney cannot afford to lose to a slow death. I don't know what Disney's relationship with Joseph Kosinski is like, but he and Gore Verbinski are the only decent live action producers Disney could tap. Maybe Taika Watiti can do it, but he only a chance if Disney lets him do it. Disney needs to fire Patty Jenkins, shelf her project just so it doesn't do to Taika's what Solo did to the film that Kenobi should have been.
@@MrRrusiii Taika is said to be directing some Mandalorian S3 episodes, and he IS directing a new Star Wars movie. So clearly, Disney sees his talent with Marvel and said "hey what can you do with SW?" which that's great, but AGAIN SW isn't just silly space adventures and it's VERY different from Thor. The fact that Taika wants to step away from the Skywalker Saga is comforting, but I really would like to see some more content from that era. Shadow of the Sith was incredible, and I love how it ties things together for the ST. Seeing Anakin in full form even as a ghost is great. Maybe the future could be in books? Who knows. But I'm kind of cautiously optimistic.
@@TheRibottoStudios I want a GOOD take on Knights of the Old Republic. Seriously. Maybe some kind of Revan prequel that doesn't bastardize his character the way the cut Revan reference in one of the recent shows would have. I dunno. It's just a very interesting period of the lore, and people who already love Mando would enjoy the Mandalorian Wars being a big thing. They did reference Rakata Prime recently... I just figure they wouldn't be able to do it justice, but if they could, that would make a neat long form TV show or something. The games are structured in such a way that you could easily carve up a season into several planets' worth of action...
Technically Rebels and Clone Wars had some of the most goofy and cringe moments. Episodes 1-4 of Kenobi felt like 4 goofy live action Clone Wars episodes. It's like Clone Wars final season, the first two arcs with the Bad Batch and Martez Sisters is really and goofy but then in last 4 episodes with the Mandalore arc it's intense and heartbreaking. That's how I felt with this series.
"WHERE WERE YOU WHILE MY FRIENDS DIED!?" "Well, I was a general in an active intergalactic war, so... I was off-planet. Didn't the Younglings know this?" Seriously, why didn't Obi-Wan say literally *anything* logical in response to her at all?
@Ali Chaudhry because his vader when he betrayed him using all good intentions no malice so so darth sidious could not sense it stop s Defending this show Clown
@Ali Chaudhry that is a fair question, if that was what reva asked. but no. don't defend the show by using your own headcanon that is not clearly mentioned in the show itself.
@Ali Chaudhry So, you've decided to dig far deeper than this show ever indicated that it did on its own, created your own interpretation below the surface of the question, and feel that it's justified? Even in your scenario, then my initial question still remains: why didn't Obi-Wan say literally anything in response at all? Why is it impossible for your headcanon that Vader isn't strong enough to mask his intentions in that moment? It was also clearly a last second decision, and the Emperor has shown basically every time he uses Force lightning that he can't just stop it and seems pretty distracted. Also, the one good thing TLJ did was show that even extremely powerful Dark Side users can be tricked by their apprentices: Kylo Ren killing Snoke instead of Rey? Vader clearly made a super quick decision at the last second, and the Emperor was clearly distracted by his love of lightning torture. Also, we're basically constantly told that Vader is even stronger than the Emperor, so... 🤷♂️ I don't think you've thought this through as much as you think you have.
@@Richard_Nickerson No we are explicitly told the opposite. We are told that the Emperor is the strongest force user of his generation followed by Yoda. Anakin would’ve been stronger if he didn’t lose his limbs and have to be on constant life support.
@@SandManSadiq Anakin is not of Palpatine's generation. He is the next generation. Palpatine being the strongest of his generation is entirely irrelevant.
Personaly Reva being a villian spirriling down into insanity could have been much more powrful. If you made her power hungy and wanting to just kill Vader and not Obi Wan could have been a great showing of why Empire failed. They did not have a common goal, they just want power and are ready to kill eachother for ranks.
They could’ve taken her the Azula from ATLA/Jinx from Arcane route. Just a person so broken from their trauma that they’ve found comfort and joy in terrible violence. That way, we as the audience feel more sorry for them than angry at them when they commit terrible acts. Honestly though, the more I think about it, the more I realize they could’ve taken her in pretty much ANY other direction (and given her a bit more screen time) and she would’ve been a much stronger character.
My problem with her acting wise is whenever she has to raise her voice. Gave me Hux flashbacks although both can just be the direction. Also not a fan of her motivation
I'm so glad someone has talked about the shaky camera, genuinely made episode five incredible confusing and somewhat difficult to watch. I feel like the directing didn't benefit the lightsaber fights too. All I wanted from the lightsaber fights was a solid non-shaky camera to focus on it, but instead, we got mini clips of the fight that was edited together. I really enjoyed the show, but things like this really annoyed me.
The shaky cam ruined the fight between Kenobi and Vader for me. Half of the time I couldn't even tell what was happening, and sometimes the camera would be entirely out of focus of the action. I wish this dumb philosophy of shoving the shaky cam into action scenes for "realism" would end. Star Wars isn't the first to make this same mistake, and it certainly will not be the last.
I laughed my ass off when the camera violently started shaking during the order 66 scene, the first blaster bolt came on screen, spooking the camera, leaving it shaking the rest of the scene
The soundtrack is also a big reason why this show is disappointing. Natalie Holt did an amazing job in "Loki" and here, it's barely noticeable. Also, not including major themes like the Imperial March, Anakin's Dark Deeds, Anakin's Betrayal or even the Immolation scene were some really bad choices on Lucasfilm part. Considering the entirety of Rise of Skywalker consists of previous tracks with no rhyme or reason, I don't see why they couldn't have done it here.
Maybe it was the way the music was used? I did hear the soundtrack for the show when it came out and it’s fine but yes, not on the level of John Williams or anything.
OST for Rise of Skywalker was written by John Williams. They wanted an original score by another artist. To say "she should've just used William's score" is... weird. I get criticising her work on Kenobi, I also thought it was quite underwhelming, which is not usual for SW
Reva was the character they wanted to write about, that's why she got so much focus even when it was a detriment to the story they were selling: the story of Kenobi and Leia. Ignore for a moment the horrible writing and directing that led to Ingram's below-par performance. This could have been two separate shows set at two very different times, or Reva could have been a legit villain rather than that nonsense they pulled in the final episode. Hell...split the show in two, have the Grand Inquisitor be the big villain of the Kenobi series with Vader looming behind him, set up Reva as a legitimately evil subordinate who is forced to question things but never fully redeemed., and then have HER story be a separate miniseries that takes place right after the Battle of Endor. Or save her redemption for an encounter in the Ahsoka series as both she and Phoenix Squadron hated the Grand Inquisitor. Her backstory is revealed then and only then, and her return to the light is earned fighting Thrawn and saving Ezra or whatever the plot of that show is going to be. ALL of this would be more satisfying than what we got...but their priorities were on rushing Reva out as a character in the spotlight before anyone got the chance to like her, which was derailed by her being made so unlikeable by the script and direction. And then keeping her alive was to allow more merchandising off of her in follow-up stories. Counting their younglings before they get slaughtered, as it were.
Hang in there SW fans. Fantastic and oh-so-true news for entertainment industry: “The sewer-pipe that is hollywoood and the wider entertainment industry in general is dying on it’s arse. Despite the market being completely saturated with CRT (critical race theory) propaganda, “lgbt” social engineering, and forced "diversity" casting, what’s the biggest movie of the year? Top Gun: Maverick. The first blockbuster in what felt like forever that didn’t pander to any of that shite. It just cracked one billion dollars box office worldwide. A movie - and get this for a novel concept - a movie that didn’t seek to shove a political ideology down your throat, and actually sought above all else… to entertain the audience? Shocking, I know!” (Paul Joseph Watson - 1 July, 2022)
One of the things that really bothered me is how the lightsabers didn't act like lightsabers and more like bats, with Obi wan hitting the storm troopers when rescuing Leia (in episode 4) and instead of it cutting through the storm troopers, it just bounces off their armour. It really pulled me out of the action.
So when obi wan has that people are like “booooo makes no sense” but then when madalorion(sorry if I spelt it wrong)literally gets hit by the dark saber and it doesn’t cut through(I think it was in the last episode)people are fine with it?
@@captaincrystal3705 You forget that the Mandalorian has an armor made of one of the, if not *the* most prestigious, rare and exceptionally strong metal in the known galaxy. Stormtroopers have... cheap, mass-produced lightweight armor that's mostly intended to deflect weak blaster shots from rebels.
I also like how the two people he was closest to "besides Padme" that fought Vader tore off a different side of his mask. Like Kenobi and Ahsoka are different parts of Anakin, deep down they are still there, even as Vader. And are tearing away that darkness, revealing the person that was once there, that they cared deeply for. Now THAT'S poetry, or I'm just looking too deeply into it, lol.
Yeah could be the writers idea but I'm more convinced they were just lazy. There are a lot of scenes and reused material that I feel are just bland copying.
I think it would’ve been better if James Earl Jones said “I did,” in the final episode, to show that Anakin was gone and only Vader remains. Nonetheless, it was cool seeing Hayden again as Vader.
I think the show would have been better as a sort of monster of the week/slice of life deal, where instead of having one overarching mission in saving Leia, we instead have Obi-Wan going about living and surviving on Tatooine, protecting Luke while also coming to terms with the fact that the world he knew is gone.
My take was gonna be a high-stakes heist adventure right after the credits roll on episode 3, where right before/after dropping Luke off at the Lars, Obi wan goes back into the galaxy to erase all traces of his former identity. That way, Vader and Kenobi could have a rematch, but it wouldn't break with established canon because Vader wouldn't know he was fighting Obi Wan (who would be in disguise.) You could even play it up with Obi Wan needing to ensure he escapes Vader without blowing his cover, and then we would get some actual stakes. (And of course, Obi-wan would be trying to erase his previous identity to make sure the Empire could never discover him and Luke on Tattooine.)
The cinematographer was Chung Chung-hoon. He did Oldboy. Yes the good Oldboy. And he did Last Night in Soho. He's a fricking legend and get's wasted so bad in this show.
I really didn’t like that they gave Reva a redemption arc. I’m so tired of the whole “I’m not bad anymore, so that makes everything I did okay!” And the fact that she does SO MUCH bad stuff, and dialogue that roots her motivation to make it unchanging, establishing her as a real villain, just adds even less sense to her realizing “damn, I shouldn’t kill this kid, I should stop being bad ig” like… you’ve already killed kids… you’ve already done SO MUCH WORSE. It felt so forced for fake tension because you KNOW Luke can’t die, so ofc she wasn’t going to kill him. I just wish the reason for it was better than what they gave. She should’ve been killed by either Obi Wan or Vader, hell, maybe even Owen. Keep your villain villainous, not redeemable, evil. It’s getting tired and predictable
It’s sad to see, because Star Wars already has probably the greatest irredeemable, fully evil villain of all time in Palpatine. They’ve proven that it works in this universe. I think more writers need to understand that having a tragic backstory doesn’t give a villain a free pass to redemption. Most villains are enhanced by having understandable, deep backstories that make you feel for them. It adds even more depth when you don’t go the predictable route, and you instead keep that villain evil. Them being redeemABLE does not mean they need to be redeemed. I think they did it pretty well with Maul. He had a very tragic backstory, being stolen from his home and essentially tortured by a psychopath his whole life until he was turned into a ruthless killer. But he never turned away from the dark- he was evil, he knew that, and he accepted it. When he died, he didn’t get redeemed, but he still had a powerful moment of peace with his greatest enemy. An acknowledgment that, if things had gone differently, they could’ve been friends. An acknowledgment that neither of them were the greatest villain in each other’s story. That should have been the direction they went with Reva’s death.
Hey, remember that one time they spent the first third of the arc establishing this character and their motivations, the second third questioning those motivations and ultimately succumbing to their base desires, and the last slowly realizing it was never worth it and defecting and spending half of that third making up for his mistakes and EARNING that redemption? Yeah, they don't do it like Zuko anymore.
Thats just Disney in general, they do the same with marvel villains and it's disappointing. I'm expecting an episode of star wars where Darth Vader turns to the light before episode 6 at this point or Palpatine being a good guy
@@shavagreycastle Yeah, now fans feel like any villan can be redeemed despite some actions that can't be forgiven or writers speedrun through the second stage along with forgetting any consequences.
It seems very apparent that this project was intended to be a movie and Disney forced the issue of making it a 6-episode series to fit their content model. Episode 1-4 were stretched so thin for content it was comical, and all of the actual meat of the story was reserved for 5 & 6. Also, what the hell was the cinematography of this show? The shaky cam drove me insane. Watching this show was like trying to make conversation with someone who refuses to make eye contact with you. Just establish your shot and film it! Use lighting and color to make it visually interesting! This entire show felt like a muddled gray/brown sludge visually. I was actually really excited for Deborah Chow to direct this show considering her past work, and I’m not sure if it’s on her or the constraints Disney gave her, but the show is visually terrible and does not feel like a Star Wars project at all.
I was honestly hoping to see more of obiwan’s personal life not really him on a mission. I was hoping to see him training in the force and maybe some of his hardship and finding meaning in life without the Jedi
@@juliannnnnnnnnnnnn it was worse overall, but it did do some things better, specifically the reveal of cad bane that was probably one of my favorite moments in any of these live action star wars shows. Disregarding how weird his face looked of course.
Has anyone figured out WHY she went to kill Luke after seeing that? Was it to get back at Obi-Wan? But they were kinda on the same side at that point, right? Was it to get back at Vader? How would she even know Luke was connected to Vader? Her decision to spare Luke is kinda deflated if we don't know why she was after him in the first place.
"I'm just quietly going to accept the oversaturation and rushed mediocrity and move on with my life" that minirant described me to a T. Thank God for the new Top Gun being as good as it was, one of the few things in TV/Film that has actually made me excited about something.
Gotta ask, when were you last excited about something that was genuinely new, and not a callback/remake of something from a bygone era? Modern media will not be long for this world if all we can come up with is repeated issues of old titles
Kenobi, to me, feels like a show full of amazing moments and amazing performances. It's just that to get to some of those parts, you kinda have to sacrifice logical and cohesive side of things. For example, Reva getting closure is an awesome moment for her character and true to her arc but you have to jump through all of these logical leaps to get there. So many contrivances to get her to that point. After Episode 4, I learned to live with the directing and writing quirks and to just enjoy the excellent acting and great scenes that it had to offer. It's not amazing but it's not downright awful. It was a fun ride, but it definitely had it's bumps
@@AccurateThings bro Obi wan looks like the cheapest shit ever. I’ve seen fan films with better effects and designs. You guys only liked obi wan for the prequels nostalgia.
@@damiantirado9616 no, the show looks butt ass like the snowspeeder scene and I never once stated I liked it, it was just peak mid. It had way better moments than book of trash, but fan service was just obnoxious and some parts of the story were really sloppy.
All of these Disney Plus shows to me feel like they come off an assembly line even more so than other properties and media. Little fanfare, here for six weeks, and then gone as the collective internet moves onto the next thing.
The relation with Leia also serves to justify Leia's reliance on Obi-Wan in a new hope beyond "papa told me he is a good guy". Now that message of Leia saying that he is the last hope of the rebellion feels much more personal because he is her actual childhood hero.
Except she starts that message with "You served my father in the Clone Wars" Which is a really strange and impersonal way to address someone who you were close to
The assumption I got regarding Reva's resentment of Obi-Wan was because he was Anakin's master. It's like when people look at young people who go off and commit really horrendous crimes, and they ask, "Where were the parents? Why didn't they stop this?" We as a society tend to assign partial blame for the crimes to the parents and their assumed failure, even when the person who committed the crime is technically an adult who's responsible for their own actions.
the problem is that the show never expanded on that. fan theories are great and all, but they cant save broken stories because they arent canon.

@@thomasbailey921 it's not fan theory it's just logic really. Reva blames Obi Wan for failing Anakin and losing him to the dark side, which lead to her friends dying
And Obi Wan going to Utapau to kill Grievous was the catalyst for Order 66; Palpatine had to separate him from Anakin and so then leaked the info of where the general of the war is at. The Council pounced on it, and it was a secret mission that culminated into a big battle. Remember, Obi Wan went there first, alone without Cody or the 212th. He was set to engage Grievous alone in an assassination mission and then the battle was to distract his forces. Reva as a youngling wouldn’t have ANY idea about ANY of this, she just knew Obi Wan was always with Anakin and they were very close
One thing I noticed about the Hayden flashbacks was that they did a weirdly bad job de-aging him. Like, everything in this show has such a high production quality, but in these flashbacks you could tell that the dude was 20 years older without even looking too hard. Obviously not Hayden's fault, just felt like a weirdly obvious oversight to me.
I was honestly shocked that they didn’t de-age him at all. And it’s pretty easy to to notice it, even if you don’t know what Hayden actually looks like nowadays
There’s several points throughout the show where the CGI is *really* questionable and the sets look like… well sets. A lot of episode 5 feels like it’s on a stage rather than a hidden base in the middle of nowhere
I think the big issue is that Disney is relying way too heavily on nostalgia with Star Wars especially. Kenobi was pretty good but honestly I just want them to do something new. The reason Mando season 1 was so good is because we got to get to know a new character. It’s so ironic that they’ve been making Star Wars characters say stuff about letting the past go and then they just keep tapping the nostalgia well dry. Let’s just hope Andor and Mando season 3 are good.
This is my issue with Disney Star Wars. They so desperately want to cash in on nostalgia, but star wars is already fleshed out, and there isnt room for these fill in the gap stories about OT characters. Not to mention, they arent INTERESTING stories, and can't be because of avoiding ruining canon. We need more things like mando honestly. Not in the way were its a star wars western, because boba tried and failed at that. Just new characters, new stories.
I’m fine with both. This show would’ve been perfect for the nostalgia stuff since it’s everyone struggling with the past but yes, we do need something new.
I think Disney is tiptoeing around the sequel era. They haven’t decanonized it and they also haven’t utilized it since the end of Star Wars: Resistance. Tattooine (and the rest of the Outer Rim, Disney) is largely removed from galactic politics, so post-ROTJ projects can pretend that the elements that lead to the sequels don’t exist.
@@GrapeCheckerBoard Id like to see more sequel era or old/high republic content. This is a bit more of a personal stance but I think OT era has done what it needs, and outside a couple characters I find the setting kinda sparce and boring
It must be how carelessly incompetant their leads are. They seem to have greenlight everything the writers had a forced idea of in the first 10 minutes of a storybuild meeting and went with it. And its worse that they will get different directors in between episodes of these shows.
The duel in Episode 6 was worth the price of admission, as a big fat lightsaber nerd such as myself. They definitely did their research when it comes to Obi-Wan and Vader's use of lightsaber forms from both Legends and Canon
This show also failed to establish how the heck Reva’s plans would have ever been able to have worked. Somehow and for some reason the archives listed that Kenobi has a connection with the Organa’s, and dating 10 years after Order 66 and the fall of the Jedi, her plan literally requires Obi Wan to live, for Bail Organa to not send an army of people to search for Leia, for him to specifically contact Kenobi, and that finding Kenobi would promote her to Grand Inquisitor over the actual Grand Inquisitor. Being cunning and resourceful is all well and good (if you can call this plan smart), but the Grand Inquisitor is also Cunning and Resourceful. Reva is literally listed as the weakest Inquisitor by ALL of her peers. Her plan isn’t a plan, its loosely strung up ideas that need an entire handful of coincidences to line up and happen perfectly, only to get slightly closer to Vader … despite already being an Inquisitor. Despite knowing Vader and Obi Wan live, she would have never been strong enough to have ever taken on a two of the strongest Jedi/Force Sensitives to have ever lived
@@themegjake4000 contingencies are way different than your main plan. Order 66 could have been ordered at any single point in time, but he wanted to get Anakin onto his side. Comparing his delicately laid out strategy to Reva is laughable
@@themegjake4000 it was a matter of how clean the transition was, not how it happened. By the time Jar Jar became a stand in senator, there were Thousands of Clones at his command. The inhibitor chips made it so he would never have lost, especially with the Jedi Order’s pride and arrogance. Jedi Masters were killed by standard clones, the entire council besides Yoda, Kenobi, and Windu were disposed of by them and Palpatine. At the very least, his plan would break even if it fell through, and it didn’t solely rely on any one factor like Reva’s at all. If Kenobi wasn’t alive or if Bail never contacted him, she would have been disposed of by the Grand Inquisitor who was already pissed at her being insubordinate and kidnapping Leia. Thats a way bigger difference than Darth Jar Jar having political say
What’s sad about Star Wars nowadays for me is that, before the buyout, everything was made based of passion. The OT and prequels were made out of passion, and clone wars was made to show that passion by realizing George’s vision. Nowadays, there still is passion, but it’s no longer the driving force of the franchise, at least for the mouse. George never cared about reviews when it came to the clone wars series, giving it an above average budget and letting Dave and his team fix their mistakes and improve characters without him having to butt in, he was only there for consultation. And now, as shown with their recent shows, the mouse has no passion for Star Wars, their passion is on the revenue it makes.
@@reek4062 If this was true, Attack of the Clones wouldn't be a thing. That movie sucked so hard, even I can't defend it, and I'm a firm defender of the prequels.
I think this is whitewashing pre-Disney Star Wars. It has been about money and merchandise from the very start, but definitely from ROTJ onwards. The Prequels had at least as bad writing and production as this series. It's nostalgic, and has a lot of material for other movies and series, but it was a turd before as well.
@@DrPOP-jp7eb That's the thing though. The prequels weren't bad due to a lack of effort. Those movies are almost obsessively detailed. I mean, you only have to watch the first minutes on Tatooine in Episode 1 to know everyone who worked on it put an astronomical amount of effort in to have substance. I don't know what you mean specifically by bad production, but the production values in specific are sky-high - if anything, it's just too clean, but that's probably an aesthetic choice driven by retro sci-fi. The prequels flopped in execution, because Lucas needs an editor to be a competent filmmaker and some of his sensibilities were absurdly dated when the movies were new (the old timey, not malicious but very stupid racist tropes - and the stiff dialogue, which he intentionally patterned after the clunky old sci-fi action movies of his youth) - but they were never, ever lazy. They had a vision and a clear theme and narrative trajectory. Lucas knew exactly what he wanted, and tripped over every Lego in the box on the way there, but damned if he didn't somehow end up at the exact finish line he was aiming for.
@@FelisImpurrator I have to agree, there were a lot more ideas and reasons for the prequels to exist in comparison to the sequel trilogy and the TV series. The prequels expanded the world of Star Wars so much, while the new media only rehashes what is already there
I completely missed Wade as a character so when they were referencing his death I was so confused. Had to confirm with my fiancé that he wasn’t in any other Star Wars media. I called him Tim and made fun of it for the rest of the show
Here’s my thing about the Show, I wish it was a Mini-Movie and I know everyone has been saying that. But here’s the thing, if this show was more about Obi-Wan and Anakin and other things. But a few things that I think that should change, 1. Make this a Mini-Movie, 2. Make sure the writing is fine (And I know writing a show is hard to write that’s why it’s better to do a mini movie) and one more thing: Show more of Anakin and Obi-Wans relationship like the Flashback. (Edit) Vader is the best thing this show has done, I mean if your gonna have Darth Vader in your Show, Video Game or Movie. You got to do him correct, it’s a rule and guideline.
Someone brought up this up but this time period for Kenobi also would’ve been great or even better as a game. Obviously Disney would never do this, especially with this characters and the actors. Imagine playing as Kenobi going around Tatooine helping Luke, the Lars, and the locals along with showing how Kenobi gets by on Tatooine and struggling with the past. These things would be perfect the first part of the game. Second part is getting Leia back to Alderaan along with Kenobi trying to regain his skills and Strength in the force. Then the final boss is Darth Vader, of course. It’s just that this would’ve been too similar to Fallen Order.
My entire view of Star Wars just got turned on it’s head. I always thought of Obi-Wan as Anakin’s Father figure. Like the guy who raised him but I’m only now realizing they really were brothers. Qui-Gon was Anakin’s real Father figure. He saved him from slavery and brought him to the Jedi Order and fought for him to be trained as a Jedi. And it was only because it was Qui Gin’s dying wish that Anakin he trained that the dogmatic Jedi Council allowed it. Without Qui Gon Anakin would not have been trained as a Jedi and the Jedi literally would have just thrown him back into slavery without a second thought. But with Qui Gon dead the young Obi-Wan must fill a role that he is not prepared for. Literally the day after he becomes a Jedi Knight he must now raise his younger Brother as his own. It makes that line “You were my Brother Anakin, I loved you.” Even more powerful and makes Obi-Wan Luke’s Uncle rather than Grandfather. This also give’s Luke a real juxtaposition between his two Uncle’s with Uncle Owen not wanting him to get involved in the war and ignore the Empire while Uncle Obi-Wan wants him to fulfill his destiny and take his Father’s light saber as his own. Anyway my entire view of Star Wars just got flipped on its head and I just wanted to share that

@@WaitWhatWho Yeah the box office of that film really put the franchise on thin ice. It sucks because I think this show would’ve been better as a film.
Obi-Wan was the definition of mediocre imo, it wasn't completely abysmal but I question the sanity of anybody who unironically thinks this was a great show
It wasn't the best, but I'm going to be honest, I didn't have high hopes going in. It was a lot better than I was expecting. I think my INCREDIBLY low expectations going in made me like it even more than most people.
I honestly can't agree more with your thoughts. They're nearly the same as mine. Also, love the Kingdom Hearts "Destati" track playing in the background when speaking about Vader ♥️
I'm going to say it, and it has nothing to do with racism. I don't like what they did with Reva. It's all in the writing here and how often they make her shout. Reva to me was terrifying when she was quiet; when she was like a predator waiting in ambush, it was the little things about her that I liked. I had a feeling she was going to have a tragic backstory, but I am just so sick and tired of female villains not really being villains. I would have loved to see Reva as a full villain, but a quiet villain. I could have sworn that her backstory was going to be that Vader made her kill her friends to save herself, and that she was gunning to be his apprentice because he spared her, and that she actually began enjoying the terrible things she did, the power it gave her. Here's the thing about people with power; they don't need to flaunt it. That's why a quiet villain is so scary, they don't need to shout to be intimidating. Vader not even bothering to use a lightsaber against her at first and then tossing her saber back to her is a brilliant example of this concept. He doesn't need to work to beat her, because he is that good. Now I can make the argument that the character is trying to be tough and scary because in reality she isn't given what they do with her at the end, but even so, I'm annoyed at how often Hollywood will not allow a woman to be a full on villain. Wanda in the Doctor Strange movie is the exception to this and I think the example of how to do this right. You feel sorry for her and understand where she's coming from, but she is still a villain. I want more female villains who are legitimate villains
I absolutely agree, but I do think it's kind of in bad faith to judge Reva as a character based on what she could've been instead of what the writers were going for.
After seeing the first two episodes, I assumed what I thought Reva’s motivations were, that she was hurt by Vader in the past and so she joined the inquisitors and sought Kenobi to get close to Vader to get revenge, not caring who she hurts along the way. The way she came across as antagonistic and insubordinate to her fellow inquisitors (hiding something), how infatuated she was with Kenobi in particular, and the fact that leftists cannot in their good conscience actually allow a black female character to be legitimately evil (only white men can be legitimately evil) seemed to lead to this conclusion. Lo and behold that was predictable.
I feel like this show should've been released all at once. I know streaming services try really hard to make sure people hold their subscriptions with the weekly release thing, but I really feel like the story was so tightly written that episodically separating it hurt its release. Not to mention giving only 6 episodes to all these shows is absolutely ridiculous
Idk I like the weekly thing because it's like old fashioned television tbh. I just think the show was mediocre and even released all at once it would have the same feeling
Really? I feel this show would’ve been better if it weren’t so stretched out. Like if it were like, a two hour episode of TV where the story is all told at once… I feel like there is a word for those.
@@Tickerchicken Technically. Binge watching is honestly not the best because you watch a show for a day, talk about it for two or three more days and then forget about it. It's something they honestly could've done for Stranger Things 4 but yk
my main opinion of this show is that the entire thing feels like a side quest. i went into it thinking it would be obi-wan faffing about on tatooine protecting luke from a distance but nah how about the other kid that someone else volunteered to protect
I'm beginning to realize the real problem behind some of the Star Wars products is trying to fit them in its established canon when created. I mean, can you believe the incredible story of redemption, revenge and loss we could have had if the characters weren't tied to their already known destinies?
All hail KOTOR Nah but really I remember raising my brows at when the old Legends canon tried to do the same thing. Secret Jedi and sith left right and center. Just chilling comfortably outside the canon. Yeah Luke met a bunch of force sensitives, he just never mentions it on camera, trust us bro. I mean heck when Ahsoka was introduced, I instantly loved her but really didn’t believe they’d ever fit her seamlessly into the narrative given how close she is to the main characters…. yet somehow isn’t mentioned or alluded to once (given she hadn’t even been an idea during the prequels).
As a series it fell flat for me, but watching the feature cut that someone made of the kenobi series made it so much better. The uninterrupted nature of the edit really made it feel like a complete story starting with Obi-Wan's fear and hesitation then ending on his path to acceptance is such a satisfying story arc to witness.
Despite the flaws, I gotta be honest. When Vador's mask broke off in episode 6, it was possibly the most gut wrenching scene in all of Star Wars. Ewen McGregor, Hayden and James Earl Jones were amazing.
@@theanimehub2180 same i just couldn’t really connect to that moment the same way i did with vader and ahsoka even tho i felt that’s what they were trying to emulate
Except for, of course, the actual gut wrenching moment in ROTS that actually made possible for everyone to care about this moment this the Obi-Wan Kenobi series
I’m conflicted, because I wanted to think this show was perfect! They did nail Obi-Wan, Vader, and Leia. Those aspects were fantastic and really made the show work! Unfortunately, the little things, such as the dumb writing some of the time, the cheap visuals, and some wasted opportunities (especially with Reva) prevent me from saying it’s perfect. With that said, I still appreciated what they gave us, and I did at least like each episode. I also appreciated the fleshing out of the original movies. The individual moments were excellent, such as both duels between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan. However, in terms of the overall story, it fell just short of its potential. I will rewatch the entire series again at some point in the future to determine if time affects my opinion. But as of now, it was both excellent and slightly frustrating. The series did begin and end on a high note.
Why the fuck do Star Wars fans get mad at cheesy kid writing as if the series is not entirely fucking built on cheesy kid writing, holy shit y’all are so annoying.
Reva murders people for years and is ruthless etc and is about to murder a child for no reason and we’re supposed to sympathize with her. “I dont want to be like vader” you are very much like vader.
My big gripe is that they completely ignore that Cal busted into Nur, caused havoc, and busted out five years earlier. Obi Wan isn't even the first redhead with a last name starting with K to break in and out. This is entirely because I'm a nerd who loves the Jedi games.
Reva's plotline in the last episode is almost as contrived and dumb as the Death Star dagger plotline from Episode IX It’s like poetry. You know, it rhymes.
Things need to have purpose in the now. It feels like worldbuilding is taking the priority over the actual story and I kept help but feel like they are “Marvel-ing” Star Wars. (I love marvel studios but every franchise doesn’t need to be “LOOK WHAT YOULL SEE IN 3 YEARS”

@@moscanaveia I could've used a better term there since FOMO usually refers to something time sensitive, yeah. I mostly mean liker Hector said, not being up to date, but also missing references in new Marvel media if you choose to skip out on a show or movie. Because everything is tied together its like "Oh shucks I don't know what they're talking about or where that character is from", because you didn't watch Loki or whichever Marvel show is new on the docket. Or there's a sneak peak to the next movie in a random show, so you feel like you have to watch the show before the next movie comes out even if you're not particularly interested in the show itself. There's a pressure to watch media you otherwise wouldn't care about because of how it ties into things you DO care about. And I would understand this if it wasn't done so intentionally to get people to watch their newest show. They reek of corporate shame, at least to me.
@@bread4237 Yeah, that's more accurate. And I agree with you, though Kenobi feels pretty stand alone, on its own. Of course, it builds heavily on plot points from Episode III, but that is sort of mandatory, because the show is about pretty much the same two characters, Vader and Kenobi.
Two things not mentioned here: 1. The tunnel scene in episode 3 makes absolutely no sense. Someone should've run into someone else there, yet somehow they all managed to miss each other? Don't know how exactly that works. 2. The show did a great job expanding on the start of Episode IV. It gives a good reason as to why Leia would be asking for Obi-Wan, knowing that here he was able to save her from anything. My personal favorite aspect of the show.
one thing about the Ep IV part tho: Leia refers to Obi-Wan as "General Kenobi" and someone who "served [her] father" during the war. is that really the way to ask help from the man who personally saved your life before?
I feel like this could've worked if they did it like El Camino did with Jesse, provides some flashbacks, deepen the character's struggles and ultimately come to a peaceful resolution for the main character.
I have to say, before I watched the finale I hadn't seen any acting really in the whole franchise that blew me away, there was some really good acting but none that was truly amazing. Then Vader and Obi-Wan started talking and Hayden Christensen blew me away. The rage and anger and resentment in his performance all conveyed through the use of his eye and voice was powerful, and Ewen McGregor sold it perfectly as Obi-Wan with him realizing that he shouldn't blame himself for Vader. That scene alone made watching through the series all worth it for me honestly
For an ultimately character driven story, the performances were more important and will stick with me for awhile. The directing and writing isn’t great, Disney has been guilty of rushing and honestly ruining what can be great stories ie marvel. Something Disney has never missed on is Vader. Vader is horrifying and brutal. Genuinely scary being that i was always afraid they’d soften.
Even though this show had great moments, im never going to lie to myself that this show did have alot of issues. Whats even more annoying however is how divided the Star wars fandom is now where theres one half that if you dont give every Star Wars product a 10/10 youre a some incel who probably also harrassed Revas actress and the other half are annoying fanboys who will hate any Star Wars product coming from disney. I think episode 4's whole point was to feature the fortress inquisitorius in a show or movie. The entire episode seems kinda like a retread of Jedi: Fallen Order's ending. Thing was taken to fortress, save thing, flood the place, uncover secret, get tf out. For that, it accomplished its (admittedly pretty dumb) goal. I got back into Star Wars recently because of Fallen Order, and episode 4 was really cool to me.
I'm glad everyone likes the finale, myself included cause it felt like we were progressing the story of Vader/Ben. No more half measures with the rebels or the fake Jedi, those two fighting, but we shouldn't have to wait through 4+ hours of meandering bad writing to do it. It truly felt like RotS where things actually fell into place, convivence yes, satisfying to watch, YES.
Im of the opinion that he let Kanobi go in episode 3. Anakin is always trying to prove himself, and this is THE fight he’s been preparing for and fighting Obi wan while Obi was still in his funk was not the fight he was looking for, so he let him go after showing his might in hopes that he could beat him for real. But that’s just my head canon
I kinda forgot about the Qui Gon scene tbh, and this made me remember that in their recap they went out of their way to point out the RotS scene where Yoda told Obi Wan to contact Qui Gon. Having him show up after Obi Wan was buried by Vader would've been a great opportunity to forward the plot and develop Obi Wan's character, and it would have allowed for the show to end on an Obi Wan "Hello There" which would have been perfect lol. Instead it was just like oh, hey Liam Neeson.
I think it was perfect as is. This is Obi-wan's arc. He couldn't commune with Qui-gon because of the trauma he experienced at the end of the Clone Wars (and that's why he also sucks and fumbles a lot with his laser sword - intentional jab - at the beginning of the show), and him only really being able to reconnect fully with the Force by coming to terms with his past was a very nice touch for his character. Having Qui-boi show up and fish him out of trouble would cheat that moment out of him. If you ask me, we have seen too few Jedi ascension moments. We never see Obi-wan transcend his failings and truly earning the title of Jedi Master. Until now.
Me personally I didn't mind Reeva that much, the actress playing her was very clearly a talented and very good one, it's just the script didn't do her justice at all with how rushed and almost AI like it was, which is disappointing because I really liked the whole inquisitor design and aspect and wish they were used more
@@maxdavis7722 idk, she seemed to be doing a good job and was into commiting to the role, but the script as well as the rushed pace of the show didn't allow her to really show of her acting talents.

Agreed. It’s what happens when you try to stretch a single movie’s story out across six episodes.
Yep. That's what it feels like. Thank Solo's flop at the box office for that, combined with Mandalorian's success.
That was the original idea, 3 movies actually but were scrapped when solo flopped. 1 movie would have been great or for this show to be a bit shorter.

I liked the part when Darth Vader had the high ground and said “bet Obi didn’t see that Wan coming” then he proceeds to crush Kenobi with the rocks. Starting to feel the same way about Star Wars that I do about marvel, it’s hard to care when so much mediocre content is pumped out.
star wars has been pumping out mid-tier content for longer than you've been alive
It has been that way since 1999
It’s unfortunate to see Disney valuing running their acquired moneymaker licenses (Marvel and Lucasfilm) through a hundred TV shows of mid while continually compromising their original TV animation programming where the best quality exists and its creators can really show as individuals through it
@@callmepsycho3132 prequels are definitely not mediocre

My biggest problem is that there are literally like no aliens in this show, in a new hope there were more practical effect aliens than there were regular humans
Aliens cannot be black, therefore they aren't relevant.
@@TheTendermen It’s the same with Lightyear. For some reason they only had humans with the only aliens being those plant things.
Disney sucks at space stuff
Oh shit, that's actually a really neat running theme I didn't notice.
When seeing Anakin’s face, Luke also saw something different from when the other two saw Anakin’s face. Ahsoka and Kenobi were met with seeing the anger, the evil, and vengeful from Anakin. Luke saw the happy, sad, and broken old man.
the final episode was cool.. until you realize Kenobi left Vader alive to continue terrorizing the galaxy for literally no reason, retroactively making Kenobi's hands bloodier than we'd like to admit
althought most episodes sucked i still hope they continue
the last episode seems pretty interesting and if they keep doing that it would make the series 10x better
It is totally in character though, Jedi don't kill beaten opponents.

I never noticed that before but that’s legit.
Kennedy sucks
that is the funny thing, George Lucas was not the best director, but he did let people do what they thought would fit and only really stepped in if it was too much.
KK: This is too dark for the brand.
Also KK: You want Vader to snap a child's neck with no hesitation? Go for it
How Kathleen Kennedy still has any say in Star Wars after proving time and time again that she doesn't understand the IP at all is beyond me.

To illustrate my point, in that Mandalorian season that is called Book of Boba Fett, writers undo the conclusion of Mandalorian S2 in a heartbeat.
nah bro that shit with Luke was fucking uncanny as fuck
"the writers just don't know how to make a cohesive story around the Skywalker family because their stories were already complete."
Bingo.

There was never an authentic feeling of threat which is fine - but add these stories to the new characters and make them compelling and mysterious! Reva and Tala were so let down and I think they could have been so much more interesting if written better :(
My Mom and I joked through the entire show
"I wonder what will happen with [insert character]."
You could say that about most prequels. We knew obiwan, anakin, and yoda couldnt die in the prequel trilogy. We knew anakin would fall and become vader. That doesnt inherently make it less suspenseful
That said the obiwan show does lack suspense in several areas but thats because of the writing not because we know the characters wont die

Exactly
@Ali Chaudhry that is a fair question, if that was what reva asked. but no. don't defend the show by using your own headcanon that is not clearly mentioned in the show itself.
@Ali Chaudhry
So, you've decided to dig far deeper than this show ever indicated that it did on its own, created your own interpretation below the surface of the question, and feel that it's justified?
I don't think you've thought this through as much as you think you have.
@@Richard_Nickerson No we are explicitly told the opposite. We are told that the Emperor is the strongest force user of his generation followed by Yoda. Anakin would’ve been stronger if he didn’t lose his limbs and have to be on constant life support.

It would be so cool if she was like an antagonist to both the Empire and the Jedi. A villain above all villains. A supervillain, if you will.
People knew she was getting a redemption arc as soon as they saw her.
Ugh. Shaky cam is physically revolting to me. As in, I can't see shit without it nauseating me.
@its Time

Plus, I heard somewhere that she was *supposed to die* in the original script.
Not really, it's just that Kathleen Kennedy got her hands on Deborah Chows work and it went down from there
They did that already, it is called "Jedi Fallen Order"

One of the things that really bothered me is how the lightsabers didn't act like lightsabers and more like bats, with Obi wan hitting the storm troopers when rescuing Leia (in episode 4) and instead of it cutting through the storm troopers, it just bounces off their armour. That would have been too on-the-nose and robbed Hayden of getting to deliver his character's most important line.
That way, Vader and Kenobi could have a rematch, but it wouldn't break with established canon because Vader wouldn't know he was fighting Obi Wan (who would be in disguise.)
You could even play it up with Obi Wan needing to ensure he escapes Vader without blowing his cover, and then we would get some actual stakes.

@Zita Á. This comment confuses me. Heroically? She's just carrying him. Back to safety. Should she just have left Luke in the desert?
@@shavagreycastle Yeah, now fans feel like any villan can be redeemed despite some actions that can't be forgiven or writers speedrun through the second stage along with forgetting any consequences.
Rest in Peace Wade. By far the best character in the entirety of Star Wars. Couldn't believe they did my boy like that.
I liked the part when Wade said "It's wadin' time" and killed Darth Vader. One of the shows of all time
It seems very apparent that this project was intended to be a movie and Disney forced the issue of making it a 6-episode series to fit their content model.
Chung chung-hoon is the cinematographer for this show. He also did the cinematography for Uncharted and It. I looked up his filmography on Wikipedia.

I'm glad SOMEONE said something about the hologram message, such an incredibly hamfisted way to get Reva to Tattoine that it made me roll my eyes.
Has anyone figured out WHY she went to kill Luke after seeing that?
Was it to get back at Obi-Wan? But they were kinda on the same side at that point, right?
Was it to get back at Vader? How would she even know Luke was connected to Vader?

Kenobi, to me, feels like a show full of amazing moments and amazing performances. It's just that to get to some of those parts, you kinda have to sacrifice logical and cohesive side of things.
For example, Reva getting closure is an awesome moment for her character and true to her arc but you have to jump through all of these logical leaps to get there. So many contrivances to get her to that point.
After Episode 4, I learned to live with the directing and writing quirks and to just enjoy the excellent acting and great scenes that it had to offer.

That's an interesting way of looking at it; but I still feel the conflict between Obi-Wan and Reva was shoehorned in for no reason.
the problem is that the show never expanded on that. fan theories are great and all, but they cant save broken stories because they arent canon.
@@thomasbailey921 it's not fan theory it's just logic really. Reva blames Obi Wan for failing Anakin and losing him to the dark side, which lead to her friends dying
@ but again, this is never articulated or even implied in the show, so it's no more than just a fan theory.
Obviously not Hayden's fault, just felt like a weirdly obvious oversight to me.
they did not de-age him, i guess it was a stylistic choice to keep the facial performance
The whole show honestly feels like it has a low production value. Them not de-aging him is just one of the more egregious examples
The fact it's contrasted with Ewan who looked the same was also pretty jarring
I used to roll my eyes at *"Star Wars fatigue"* or *"MCU fatigue"* but by now I kinda get it
It's funny, because I never really gave a rat's ass about Thor, Captain Pig or Iron Asshole, but I kind of like Wanda and Dr Strange a lot better
Ahhh Reva, the kind of character who will scream and charge behind your back before an attempted assassination. Whatever will we do without you.
"Sokka,it's not a sneak attack if you yell."
Tbf plans that need a bunch of specific things to go right aren’t new to Star Wars. That’s palpys whole thing
@@themegjake4000 contingencies are way different than your main plan. Order 66 could have been ordered at any single point in time, but he wanted to get Anakin onto his side. Comparing his delicately laid out strategy to Reva is laughable
@@zachtemoro2116 it literally relied on having jar jar binks be a stand in senator

Money has always been the driving force of Star Wars, also before Disney took over.
The prequels expanded the world of Star Wars so much, while the new media only rehashes what is already there
This should have 100% been a show to open the audience up to kenobi’s development. Also it created countless plot holes.

Exactly, star wars twitter is as bad as politics twitter
I absolutely agree, but I do think it's kind of in bad faith to judge Reva as a character based on what she could've been instead of what the writers were going for.
I disagree. The character was terrible all around and the performance was just plain bad.

My big gripe is that they completely ignore that Cal busted into Nur, caused havoc, and busted out five years earlier. Obi Wan isn't even the first redhead with a last name starting with K to break in and out.
This is entirely because I'm a nerd who loves the Jedi games.

Two things not mentioned here:
People really shouldn't say Disney is writing these shows. All that credit belongs to the actual writers and directors
18:33 "It's like poetry, they rhyme."
Out of every Star Wars show, this is definitely one of them.
@don't be surprised Report
Its ridiculous.
I couldn't agree more! I hate it when fans make a subject look all black and white! It's not even funny! It's just cringe!
Lie that the show DID have a lot of issues?
Because it did
@@Richard_Nickerson That's what literally he said lol.

Lying about something having problems means it doesn't have problems.
Lying about something not having problems means it does.
He said the former, I'm asking if he meant the latter.
Edit: Also, "that's literally what* he said", not the other way around.
@@Richard_Nickerson your wording isn't making anything clearer, but I am pretty sure OP meant to say "I'm never gonna lie to myself, this show did have issues".
Obi-Wan is one of the shows ever made 😎
good
well said colton
It great seeing Hayden and ewan back together to replay their roles
18:29 and how Obi Wan was able to prevent his own hair from burning using the force.
He is like Johny Bravo. His hair is indestructible.
Wade's death was one of the moments in Star Wars history. I started crying uncontrollably. 10/10 amazing episode.
Who
Exactly
I'm glad everyone likes the finale, myself included cause it felt like we were progressing the story of Vader/Ben. No more half measures with the rebels or the fake Jedi, those two fighting, but we shouldn't have to wait through 4+ hours of meandering bad writing to do it.
It truly felt like RotS where things actually fell into place, convivence yes, satisfying to watch, YES.
You accept mediocrity, for what?
@@ninjanibba4259 Hey i said i liked it, sue me. I had various issues with the bad writing throughout the show.
Perhaps the hope of good SW stories has come sooner than Schaff expected. I think he'll love "Andor".
Andor is amazing, my favorite star wars show
Im of the opinion that he let Kanobi go in episode 3. Anakin is always trying to prove himself, and this is THE fight he’s been preparing for and fighting Obi wan while Obi was still in his funk was not the fight he was looking for, so he let him go after showing his might in hopes that he could beat him for real. But that’s just my head canon
I like how schaff has been adopting the “was a thing” phrase
Until now.
Me personally I didn't mind Reeva that much, the actress playing her was very clearly a talented and very good one, it's just the script didn't do her justice at all with how rushed and almost AI like it was, which is disappointing because I really liked the whole inquisitor design and aspect and wish they were used more
Really? Personally I thought it was almost the opposite, I didn’t find the actor good for the role at all.
@@maxdavis7722 idk, she seemed to be doing a good job and was into commiting to the role, but the script as well as the rushed pace of the show didn't allow her to really show of her acting talents. I'd say she's pretty good, considering I found her more entertaining than Rey or Padme lmao, so there's something
@@blyat8832 I figured the role required someone intimidating or someone with lots of screen presence. I didn’t feel that she had either of those as an actress and wasn’t fit for the role. Of course there is only so much you can do with the writing and directing but I don’t feel that she was appropriate.
I really expected Vader to say “It’s over Obi-Wan, I have the high ground” when he tossed Kenobi into the pit in the last episode.
