If you're going to overturn an ending, you kind of owe it to the previous film to replace it with something at least equally as good.

It had flaws and things we as adults criticize and over analyze. But when Sidious started going wild I felt a boy like wonder. And sure the kiss was cringe but we didn’t have a problem when Han and Leia kissed did we? The only really bad moment was when Kyle Ren disappeared, my whole row at the movie theater bursted our laughing because that was stupid. Other than that I really do think it was a good Star Wars movie. I think we judge it to harshly because we aren’t kids anymore. That said TLJ was complete garbage

      They ripped off from so many movies in this trilogy and even ripped off from the original Star Trek TV series in the 1960s. This whole healing wounds is from an episode from an old Star Trek TV show back in the 1960s and we can also make the case that with Luke, Leia and Ben dying from the force with using force powers that they never used before caused them to die because of doing something that they never did before. In this same episode from this woman healing people in that old Star Trek episode she losses her own energy everytime she uses this and it destroyed her. JJ Abrams used these 2 ideas from Gene Roddenberry. Not a surprise since he worked for Gene Roddenberry in Star Trek starting with the next generation TV series.

    In 1977, I was 13 and Star Wars was a phenomenal experience. In 1980, I was out of the country when my friend sent me a letter that said "You're not going to believe what happened!" He was right with the Empire Strikes Back. When the credits rolled, I knew it was going to be another 3 damn years before I was going to find out what happens next with Return of the Jedi.
    Fast forward to 2015 when I am 51. They are bringing back Han, Leia, and Luke and it's like I am a kid again. They...never...appeared...together. Who could imagine someone deciding that?!! What a colossal let down that was. But Harrison Ford was great and Han was dead. In 2017, a bewildered 53 year-old me blurted out "What a hot mess" when the credits rolled. Luke was depressing and dead (and ironically, so was Carrie). In 2020, I managed to finally watch the Rise of Skywalker on Disney +. After seeing 3/4 of the movie, I was so bored and confused by all of the story arcs that I turned it off without finishing it.

    This movie would have been even better with a slight twist that Rey had actually died and Kylo Ren was the last skywalker left thus 'the rise of the skywalker'and that he was the one to return the lightsabers of Luke and Leia. Kylo Ren had the most interesting and developed arc over these movies out of everyone. He deserved a better ending.

Abrams is not the only one to blame here, Kathleen Kennedy is also for not understanding the lore and mythology of Star Wars or even the story laid out in this sequel trilogy. If she was so happy with what Rian did in Ep8, why she herself not even tell what JJ has done in Ep9 undoes what RJ did in Ep8!?
      And im not even a TLJ lover, i just find it laughable that TROS has even undone much of what TLJ did, because that movie undid the very mystery boxes TFA set up. So its all a miss-construed mess now.

    I've said it a million times and I'll continue to do it.
    The force awakens is a good/decent movie, but it is a garbage sequel. A sequel has a much larger job than just being competent. It has to either expand the already known universe or give you a more in depth look. Introduce new character conflicts and themes that go well with the world and expand the story, etc. And force awakens failed to set up the future of the trilogy.
    A LOT of people just blame ryan johnson, and to me that's stupid, 1 guy can't ruin a whole trilogy, and a lot of the trilogy biggest problems, were already there from ep 7, and even if ep 8 was painfully bad, it tried to do some interesting things, and ep 9 just whiped hia butt with those things. And in writing, most of the time, when you have a problem, the root of it is way back, it's usually because you failed yo set up the moment, which is mostly what happened.
    JJ abrams introduced a bland story, that didn't have much to grab on, and had the boring carbon copy of the empire. Disney and lucas films didn't have the balls to do something new and interesting, and that was what killed the trilogy, from the start.
    If episodes 8 and 9 were great, they still wouldn't have been as good as the other ones, because of that unoriginal start. that goes to show how important the begging of a story is.
    Also I saw a video of JJ abrams talking about star wars, like it was a genre, they focused on the superficial things, like crossing them off a list, and it is really sad.
    I recommend you watch the mandalorian gallery so you can see how Dave feloni talk about starwars with actual understanding of what makes it work, and with love and passion, instead of taking about how they HAD to put a desert planet, because it is a staple of the series...
    So in short, the Starwars trilogy wasn't ruined by one guy, it was a collective effort that involved all parties 😂

      @Salvador Salgado I agree, Rian gets a lot of the blame for something that was a group project. The only reason I give Rian a bit more blame than JJ is because while he had some original ideas they weren’t done well at all and weren’t wanted. The most blame should go towards KK and the people at the top. We should’ve gotten one director to make all three films, even if it was a poor vision any united vision would’ve been nice. We either should’ve gotten a complete JJ series or a complete RJ series. Not a mess blend of both.

    • @salvadorsalgado5212
      @salvadorsalgado5212 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@connorgolden4 yeah that would have been a better choice, even tho I think JJ made episode 9, which to me is the worst piece of starwars media ever.
      Even worse than episode 2, because it was almost as bad in execution, but it didn't have a good story or world behind it that makes you think it actually had potential, and had so many terrible mistakes that would make any filmaker puke, both in terms of direction and continuity, that can't even be blamed on ep 8, because they were self contained in that episode, and lastly it was the one that retroactively hurt the originals the most, making for example anakin, the center of the whole story, useless.
      And even then, yeah I agree, that would have been the smartest choice dude, at least in terms of writing the scripts, it should have been one person.

But you can’t just retconned everything the guy did just because there was a divide in the fan base... should of just stuck to Johnson’s themes and made sequel to Last Jedi... seems like Disney got scared and back tracked a lot of Rians story themes and arcs that he set up for the third one... once a house is half built you don’t just build the rest of the house in a different fashion because your having second thought about what you have done so far... you committed so you should lay in the bed you made... not throw out the bed and say that was the whole plan lmao

    It would have been good if they’d plotted out the whole trilogy in advance.
    They had three good plot streams. 1) The conflict / love affair / struggle between light and dark that serves as the Rey-Ben arc; 2) The uprising among the storm troopers, exemplified by Finn, and the idea that part of defeating the villainy of the empire is putting an end to its indoctrination of orphans into bloody-minded killing machines; 3) The debate over the Force itself - is it really a force for good or, ironically, just as much a force for bad? Is it neutral or does it take sides? Or is it just an aspect of the SW universe that needs constantly to be finely balanced? Are the Jedi and the Sith both evil and good at the same time and in their own ways? Etc.
    These are rich elements that could have been the basis for a very compelling set of through lines. The problem is that none of these Disney “geniuses” thought it through, or planned ahead. They just sat lazily back and waited for the money to pour in.

      The original trilogy killed off all the previous trilogy's heroes. Besides C-3PO and R2-D2, everyone dies by the end of ROTJ. Obi-Wan doesn't get any epic fanfare when he dies. He fights Darth Vader, and then surrenders once he realizes the fight is no longer important. And as for Yoda, he just dies of old age. They were just mentors. The original trilogy's story would not have had the same weight to it if the mentors didn't die. It gives the heroes more room to grow. It's part of the hero's journey.

    Given he's the last Skywalker, I was hoping Kylo Ren was going to be the big bad in IX......then we heard Palpatine's laugh in that first teaser and I almost threw my laptop across the room. I loved that Rey was a nobody. A Star Wars protagonist is allowed to come from nothing and make something of themselves. Then Rey is suddenly revealed to be Palpatine's granddaughter......for some reason. I don't wanna hear people say, "The Last Jedi ruined this trilogy so JJ did the best he could with what he was given." NO. Johnson more or less gave him a blank slate. JJ should've gotten creative for the first time ever directing/writing a film instead of getting high, going on Reddit and trying way too hard to please the crybaby fanbase! Colin Trevorrow's script at least came across as respectable to The Last Jedi. All Abrams did was wipe his ass with the one movie he didn't direct in this trilogy. I don't know what the fuck people see in Abrams. I just don't. Nostalgia, lens flares, fan service and that mystery box bullshit. That's what he brought to the table.

    • @WarcleanePro
      @WarcleanePro 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Aye.
      JJ is a safe pair of hands. He makes solid entertaining movies. He's particularly good at doing the setup. He seamlessly introduced Rey, Finn, Poe, BB8, Kylo to the world, while reintroducing the legacy characters and passing the baton.
      I was more than happy with him taking the reins with TFA and although it's probably far too close to a New Hope, I was very happy with how he rebooted the series.
      This is providing that somebody was brave enough to move the series forward for the first time since Empire. Johnson achieved that masterfully.
      However, JJ didn't/couldn't/wouldn't be creative enough to spin another compelling and intelligent story. Whether that's because he's not a closer or his hands were tied or there was just too much toxicity and expectation, who knows?
      The truth is that although they could have had a roadmap for all three films and stuck with it. Whether they did or did not, mattered not, because they chose the easy way out for the final entry.
      What I would pay to see Rian Johnson's episode IX. That would have been epic.

      I would've been fine that Rey stayed as a nobody too. I rather liked the theory that Rey's actual origin matched Anakin's, who also came from nobody, but was conceived by the Force. This would explain the vision when she touched Anakin's original lightsaber, and it would've connected all the way back to Episode I, as the "Skywalker Saga" should.

Cameron loved the first film and honored Ridley Scott by making his sci-fi action film continue what Scott began in his sci-fi horror film, Idk if Rian Johnson was even a fan of Force Awakens and JJ Abrams as James Cameron was a fan of Alien and Ridley Scott...

    • @Gadget-Walkmen
      @Gadget-Walkmen 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LOL Piss off with that nonsense. The Force awakens is a VERY fun and awesome movie. Just because it has a similar style to a new hope, it's still a fantastically fun movie to watch with great action, good humor, fantastic visuals, likable characters and amazing sequences. The movie DOES have imagination AND creativity, you're just too blind to see it. What JJ abrams and Disney did with force awakens was amazing but the other two movies, not so much.
      I’m not a JJ abrams “super-fan” or anything but what he and what Disney did with force awakens as a film was a great start up and a amazingly fun movie to watch with phenomenal visuals with practical effects and gorgeous scenery to see instead of cgi green screen that’s so obvious most of the movie. And he and Disney deserves to get credit for that as force awakens was a spectacularly fun Star Wars movie to enjoy.

It's not like he needed the cash, either -- he was already one of the richest people on the planet. At best, I will grant him the benefit of the doubt that he realized he'd lost his touch, the original trilogy was a fluke, and that he no longer knew how to make a quality film. So he accepted a pay-out and shrugged off the burden, to let someone else take the blame. I never want to hear another word about Star Wars from this insufferable hack, like what he would have done differently, etc. He made his bed. He SOLD his bed. I don't give a fuck what he dreams about now.
