Rhett.... Whoops! don't worry all part of life there will be other trucks, glad you didn't get hurt. next time your take that corner a bit slower ;-) just wait a little while before you ask mum to borrow her car :-) ;-)

Heck $360,000 on that truck. That's just getting broken in good. We all know diesels can do 750,000 with out too much of an issue mileage wise. Plus you don't have to worry about that DEF of that truck. Nice looking truck... Also throw some sandbags in the back of your truck and give you some weight. Hopefully you got a set of chains for out there also with you and your dad.

I put bags of sand and salt mix in the back of my truck for weight for better control because the back end is way to light for winter driving. Also, if you get stuck, you can use some of the sand/salt mix to get out. That system works good. You can put the bags close to the front so if you stop suddenly, they won`t dent the back of the box. I also found out the big lug tires don`t do as well on icy roads, you need less lug and more tread touching the road. Hope that helps.

weighing down the rear end of a truck like that is a very good thing to do.

My dad put sacks of concrete alongside the wheel wells with a 2X4 frame to keep them stationary. They hardened and added weight in the back, as you recommended.
God Bless all your family this Christmas season.

JudithB I put 20 (900#s) bags of compost in the back of my Silverado for the winter last year, and that went in the garden in spring. This year, maybe compost and bags of pea gravel. Lot of weight but I dont drive much in winter. Bonus was there was no compost in town left in the spring!! I think if you know an area is dangerous, a bag of cow salt 50#s for $5.00 hand spread would help until the county works on the road!

Happens a lot. Had a kid from work last year do something similar, but it was on a highway at 65mph went off the road, through a fence and ended up upside down in a field at 2am....no snow/ice...the only thing that we can figure out is he fell asleep, which makes sense as he had gotten off work late that night, had to drive to his dad's house, then back to town...The roof of his car was smashed down to the seats, he somehow managed to crawl out of the car and had no injuries other than a few scrapes, bruises, and a couple of cuts...

Stopped at 1:43. So thankful Rhett wasn't injured in that wreck. I've said a prayer for him to be more careful. Please Rhett. You're young, but not indestructible. For your family who loves you, and all of us who care about you, please be more mindful of your situation. Merry Christmas Rhett. Your gift was already delivered.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Kids are gonna be kids for sure. They're young, they know everything, including how to mess up a good truck LOL. Honestly, he's extremely lucky he wasn't severely injured, or worse....if he wasn't wearing his seatbelt, it would have been much, much worse. You can tell them, time and time again to be careful, slow down, etc. But they're kids, they don't really understand the physics that go on when driving too fast, or driving reckless, until something happens...and for some they never really do learn, you just hope they don't hurt or kill someone else in the process. Rhett's a great kid, I think this was a major wakeup call for him.
I've gotten calls in the middle of the night from co-workers, friends' kids, etc. "hey can you please come get me, I don't think I feel safe driving in this"....I've told so many people, don't be afraid to call for a ride anytime you aren't comfortable driving in bad weather....I'd rather get that call hey come get me and take me home please, than those other calls because of a wreck.

Good values go a long way in this day and age when most young people do not have a guiding hand such as a good father or parents to direct and influence them along away. You Sir have a gift in that son of yours. I historically had a negative thought of Rhett but only because I didn’t see him “pulling his weight” in helping you on projects. He has a gift, you can tell it in his eyes when he was driving the new truck without you being with him and him talking to the camera. Do what you can do to get him involved in more videos, he has that gift and would be a great influence on a younger generation following you and your family. God is with you and had his hand involved in watching over Rhett. Thanks for sharing and making him be part of this “lesson”. Saying good evening from the Ice covered roads in northern Michigan.

An acquaintance of ours was driving her Volvo station wagon through the California high desert one night, also 35 years ago. Her kids were buckled in (shoulder harnesses and lap belts in the rear passenger seats) and asleep. A roadrunner (a desert bird) ran across the road, she braked hard, rolled the car over, and landed back on its wheels. Everyone was still safely buckled in; however, one child didn’t answer when called by name, and was discovered to have died instantly from a snapped neck. So tragic.

I had the same thing happen to me when I was 17, I had an old 84 ford f150 was going to school one morning and hit a soft patch of gravel and ice coming down a hill, I started fish tailing and spun 180 at the bottom of the hill that went over a small creek that was built up on each side and had culverts running under. As i spun the 180 i went off the left side of the road and down the embankment and hit a small tree and flipped my truck. Not a scratch on me either other than the bump on my head after unbuckled and fell from hanging upside down LOL. Great kid you have there ! Have a great Christmas !

yeah, I did the same in my 2002 7.3 F350.. I wasn't even going fast, creeping across an icy bridge at only like 15 mph, and as I pull off, I pushed the gas a little and we spun like a top, but slowly.. Once I hit the grass, we were parrallel with the road again, but facing the other direction now-- the truck did lean and lift the wheels a little, but luckily it sat back down-- and I didn't roll it. It was close though; If I was going any faster, it would have been upside down in the ditch.

I was 17 when I flipped my jeep through a telephone pole. Same thing, took a bend in the road a little to fast, hit some black ice and lost control. Ended up breaking my neck and back but I was able to walk away from that accident. It's a sobering moment for a kid that age. Of course my first thought when I climbed out of my flattened jeep was that my parents were going to kill me, but, like you they were just happy I was alive and that's honestly where the biggest lesson learned came from. I walked away from that accident a more alert and cautious driver and also a more humbled person, at 17 I thought I was tough as nails and invincible, but, after breaking my neck and back and having to re learn how to use my left arm I learned a valuable lesson on the fragility of life.

When I was 16 my dad asked to use my VW Beetle while his car was in the shop. He was in an accident with my car and felt bad. When told this had happened the first question I had for him was he ok?
Fast forward today I'm 67 having lost my dad six years ago. In his final years of life he on several occasions brought up how impressed he was that my first concern was for him and not my VW
I love am miss my dad dearly. Your words to you son of his well being brought back the memory of my words to my father. My wish for you two is that your bond if love continue to grow and you two have a lifelong relationship of caring for each other.
    Merry Christmas and God Bless

The lad is going to lose a few nights sleep over that truck, you could see it in his eyes. He will carry that with him till the day he goes. He learned the easy way walking away without a scratch.
    Glad he is ok

So happy that Rhett is ok as from looking at that truck it could have been so much worse. We all know that at 17 the acceptable speed is much higher than when you're older. A valuable lesson learned about slowing down and knowing that in winter, that conditions can change so very fast. I am so very happy that he has learned those lessons without physical injury.. On a better note I see another father/son project in your future and those are very important for lifetime memories.
