    Buddy, you remind me of me 40 years ago. Just as soon as spring was near, I was outside. I always knew that certain things had to be done before winter arrived - but never got around to it until I was running late. Then the rush was on. One spring, I decided to do the winter prep first - starting with firewood. Best decision of my life.

    When I moved to Canada, I learned something simple and clever... when snow or freezing rain was anticipated, you pull up your wipers and let them stick up in the air. Now when you clean your windshield they are out of the way and never stuck. ;)

    I believe I watch your channel, because I am a workaholic. My day job can take up up to 18hrs of a 24hr day, I still feed the family and clean up after them and maintain the house and yard. I've been home on standby for my day job and have been DIY-ing around the house. I appreciate how Heath and Cedar generally do things themselves and don't pay people to do it. It is a great feeling at the end of the day when things are done.

    Here in northern mn I’ve done and tried every possible combination of snow removal equipment there is. I finally settled on a 40hp. compact loader tractor with a cab and a 74” snowblower. I use the loader to back drag the s ow away from the buildings and then turn around and blow it out of there. By far the best investment I ever made and the tractor is a year round tool that fills so many roles on my homestead. Keep up the good work! Jim

    A while back you mentioned moving the tool box in the shop and shifting the wood burning stove closer to the concrete. If the concrete has good thermal conductivity, the heat may transfer to the barn and help keep the animals warm. I also thought about a couple of smaller, perpendicular pipes coming off of each side of the chimney on the house roof, running under the solar panels. Maybe they will emit enough heat to rise up and warm the solar panels. All the best to you and your family

    The snowblower is the way to go. Once you plow snow and pile it up, your stuck with the pile. A blower allows you to throw and pile it on itself. A plow and blower each serve a purpose, a wet slushy snow can't alway be blown but plowed out of the way.

    What a nice place to live. Winter has already started in the Alps weeks ago and your place looks soo familiar to me although its on the other side of the world. Regarding snow-blower - here they are using it all over the palce also because of the limited space (to push the snow away) and because of the amount of snow - similar to what you are facing. I also want to thank you for sharing your life and your familys life with your videos. I have to be tankfull because your videos are also pushing me a bit to get things done and thats more i could hope of at watching the your clips. Its the kind of attitude you and all of your family have (as far as can be judged via the clips) and how you hold the value of family high and in treasure! At the end thats all whats matters. Great recovery Heath. I now see firsthand the great difficulty the pitch of the ice rink roof is to maintain uprightness. The beauty of the snow can be interfering with whatever goals you may set out to accomplish on a given day. There is a story about safety straps and roofing. An individual decided that he needed a secure way to secure his strap. He came to the conclusion that securing it to a motor vehicle was the best way. One thing he forgot to do. He forgot to tell his wife. She unaware of his decision making got into the auto and began to drive off. The human strapped to the strap was flung off the roof and sustained a few broken bones. So whatever injuries you may incur with your setup is a blessing!🙄🙄

    I know Heath does not read TH-cam comments anymore but on the off chance he does here is my 2 cents. Clean up the shop, when the next big snow storm is close back in all the cars inside the last being the plow truck. No snow to clean off and the plow truck makes a path with the plow for all the cars as they get pulled out. If you really want to get fancy start fire crack the car windows down a little (no cracking of windshields), clean cars without snow and ready to drive. Think harder not work harder or work hard, think harder.

    I find myself stopping whatever I do to see what's next out at the ranch. You would really be glad to have yourself a good snow blower for the parking area and driveway. My dad bought a snow blower with 3 point connection and PTO driven for his 50 horse Allis Chalmers tractor way back in late fall 1986. He still uses it to this day. It stands about 30 inches high and about 7 ft wide. It has hydraulic adjustable chute to throw snow any direction. He's never regretted buying it. He only has to replace some special sheer bolts every few years or so but it still works like new. No giant snow piles to try to shove bladed snow onto and cuts your removal time way down. 2 passes would easily clear your driveway. Regrettably such a thing would be too slow for the road but sure would help to throw the snow away from the road. Can't wait to see what's next.

      Would a Skid Steer require high flow hydraulics to run a snow blower? I'd think it would...so Heath would need to find a high flow model...plus I think a post hole digger would require high flow as well possibly, but I think where they are at a skid steer with high flow would be perfect for a lot of applications, and the attachment possibilities would be endless with a machine like that....course an excavator would still be great up there too.

Early winter days and late spring days are very icy at here in Finland too when first/last snow is smelting. Those studs would work at icy flywood too, but also may ruin plastic water cover. • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The snow spills off the sides of a plow normally, but yeah, a blower is really a must in places like that, there's only so much plowing you can do before your road begins closing in on you because a plow can't throw the snow far enough away. Even the snow blower on my lawn tractor will throw snow 10-20 feet away depending on the angle of the chute and wind. What would he mount a snow blower on though? He doesn't have any PTO equipped or Hydraulic equipped machines to run one.

    • @ang_131
      @ang_131 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wildbill23c, Heath said he was looking at blowers that would mount on the quad/four wheeler. So not a huge one. From how he was talking, it sounds like he just wants it for clearing around the house/shop and the driveway, not for the road itself.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ang_131 I guess he don't realize how much those things weigh, how cumbersome they are, and after using one once he'll quickly realize they're not as great as it sounds...you not only have to feed the ATV engine, you have to feed the snow blower engine too. Unless he wises up and buys a new UTV that actually is built for work, like the Kubota RTV X1100c which has a PTO and accepts a snow blower or snow broom. I think Bobcat may have something similar as well. Otherwise those ATV blowers are extremely expensive for no better than they are. He'd be better off with a UTV that has a PTO, or buy a compact tractor and snow blower.

    Yes, a blower attachment for your ATV would be a good addition. A friend who has one, has about the same size property around your home, barn and parking/lane areas. He swears by it. His is on a large Cub Cadet lawn tractor.

    Thought we had a bit of snow when I brought the dogs out for their last walk of the night but then realised it was where I was cutting some foam insulation earlier in the day and bits had gone over the garden furniture

    Have you thought of using Ratchet straps on the rear wheels of the dually to get Back up your driveway. I know they sell them on Amazon. They are easy to put on and take off. The brand is treadready.

    You had the awareness to drop the broom and grab the strap. Nice save. Thank goodness you're ok.

    Man it is to bad there is not a shed that you could work on that old truck out of the snow and weather. You should build one someday.

    When the metal is on, try a cheap 4” foam pad. They don’t slide on the metal, and provide traction. Hope this helps :)

    Hey you. Yes, I watched the broadcast, but 5 hours later. I really enjoyed it even though I usually do not like live broadcasts, because they are too late for me. You wanted to know where I was from, so I'm from Israel. I always admire the size of the USA and the possibilities of finding a suitable place to establish a farm. Unfortunately we do not have a suitable place for this. Have a happy new year and a happy holiday to the whole TH-camr family that expands from month to month. Thank you very much and kisses 💚
