Jacob, amazing videos and dedication to the Saab community! Loved seeing the footage of the beautiful USA and all the Saab content. Well done with all the ‘bush fixes’ and pleased you made it home safely. Great channel and big fan ❤
Glad you made it home J! While you were away, our '94 900 SE 2.0 Turbo (200k miles) had catastrophic main bearing failure. 😔 8 years of faithful service and never a major issue. Not worth fixing, unfortunately, so she's in SAAB heaven with big bro 9000. On the bright side, we found a beautiful, Black 2009 9-3 2.0 Turbo Aero XWD Sport Combi 6 speed to replace her. Only 99k miles, and rust free from Greece (we in 🇭🇺). 😃And if my research is correct, there were only 43 of this exact trim shipped to the USA. What a gem! 🙏
@@AutoAutopsyWe had no choice to scrap it because of local laws but as consolation, I heard someone bought the entire car from the yard 3 days later, so she lives on! 😄👍
4:55 this has happened to me before on long car rides (2007 Saab 9-3 2.0T). I usually would notice it going up hills. My assumption was always the automatic transmission which will adapt to your driving style has been in top gear for so long it is not expecting you to need a lot of acceleration after a long highway drive. You are going a constant speed for so long that I’m guessing the transmission doesn’t want to down shift since most of the time you’re probably only accelerating from 60-80 not too quickly. The turbo on the other hand never seemed to change how it operates. It’s only the down shift of the auto transmission when trying to accelerate hard after a long highway drive.
My entire muffler fell down once due to rubber hangers failing on way home from Grand Canyon with the entire family in middle of night on i15. Dragging under the car Made a heck of a racket. Fixed with gorilla tape until I could get home. I need to check mine again now that you mentioned it. Crazy trip you did but you did it. Home safe is always the goal.
You might have just got a lemon, or maybe it’s a salvage, or something else about it’s history that you had all those problems. I’ve had a 2010 9-3 for 12 years put over 200k on it and had very few issues or repairs outside of regular maintenance. That being said I’ve just run into an AC problem that hasn’t been able to be solved yet but in spite of that I have to say my Saab overall has been the best car I’ve ever owned by far in all respects.
I don’t see how it’s a lemon and it’s not a salvage… he’s had this car for ages and it’s very high mileage now. He’s practically built this channel around the life and times with this car. Sometimes sh*t just wears out and gives problems.
just to clarify...you're calling my ride a lemon after it just made a trip 3,000 miles with no major problems? what problems are you referring to? it is definitely not salvage, and in 8 years of ownership, it has left me stranded once...not bad for a 21 year old car that has 180k miles on it in my opinion.. glad to here yours has been good to you. I’d say mine has been as well.
Great trip, these issues that you had - they are not really an issues just for the enthusiast. I just made a trip last week with mine 9-3 1.8t 2003 arround 1500miles and to be honest i was scared because it is salvaged-i bought it wrecked and repaired by my own. But the ride was with no issues just 1 blown AC fuse.
The airbag malfunction at your mileage, at least in my experience, is due to the sensors up front by the bumper. They change after 06 or so I believe, they're slightly different. Worth looking into. Those are the only ones I have had fail on these cars. I've replaced it on a few others and my 04 Aero now has nearly 230k and that's the only airbag related component I have had to touch.
Ahhhh 2:42 the dreaded window lines.... Also, talking about problems almost crashed two times last weekend. I've two problems first one is slack on the steering wheel about 260 of your miles correcting again and again and again and again... it's not fun at all... might me connected to the somewhat severe wobble after a "fast overtake maneuver" left then right movement. Cause of this is most likely a bad universal joint on the Intermediate Shaft of the steering column. The second is a off limits rear right wheel camber angle, which, I presume is giving me a loose rear end at high speeds left turns. Don't tell anyone , I was chasing an "F1 driver wannabe" in and Audi S3 wagon on a fast left hand highway turn safe for 75mph I was doing almost 110.... he got away and I kept my life... I thought I was dirt, wind or something else ... tried a second time at less speed on a similar turn.... I have to put my Saab on a shop.
I need new hangers on my '93 9000. They don't have that style at Napa either! My car's mileage has been saying 35.5 mpg average lately. Usually around 32 mpg. (2.3 turbo stick)
Curious why you haven’t went e85/flex fuel. Pretty viable down here in the southeast. Not really up there? glad to have a solid ride. These things are road warriors. They’re were originally designed with euro cross country autobahn trips in mind.
Can someone please recommend a Saab mechanic in Phoenix, AZ area. I'm having AC issues and having a hard time finding a trustworthy and knowledgeable shop. Thank you.
IMM Auto Service, SavingSaabs, or Sebastian Bowen are the only places/people I’d trust. I would highly recommend joining our Facebook page (Saab club of arizona)! We’ll be having our annual meet soon (once the weather cools off)
Glad your trip went well!!!! Last year when I got a new fuel pump I used it as a good opportunity to also address the issue I had in which it constantly said I was running with absolutely NO fuel. I would get confused & think that I still had fuel but, sometimes I legitimately didn't have any. Lol. Great video! 👍
🫡👍❤️🇸🇪 30miles/ gallon = 0.78liter/ mil. I did not think i heard right, 5-600 dollar in fuel, that is a long trip. 3000miles= 187mil To 100k and beyond 👍
My 2004 93 5-speed manual gets 29-30 mpg in my mostly short-trip commuting and about 35 on long freeway drives. I have had 0 new problems arise after 8 months of daily driving and one 2000-mile roadtrip.
Saabs suck ass. One of the worst decisions of my life was buying one. Had to put over 4000 dollars into it within 10k miles of driving and it was a 2011 with only 78k miles when I bought it... Your videos saying they are reliable cars and shit are a joke. Parts can take 6 months to order if you can even find them and most mechanics wont even work on them?! Gl2u
@aquastu Why don't you go buy a BMW? I heard that their rod bearings are top notch. But then again you're not me... my NG 9-3 only gave me old car problems, old fuel pump, old worn-out bushes (everywhere), old gaskets/O-rings/seals.... And then you can't just be lazy and let others buy parts for you or fix things for you, you'll loose money and time. Go find parts for lower price, do light fixes, learn... because you get official WIS documentation, you got forums to interact with others.
@@Lamster66 Well, from the 9000 onwards Saab didn't just rebadge the "given" cars didn't they? They did what they could and then some. I bet GM didn't just let Saab die because rights and tech. Regarding you experience, you still kept buying them. P.S.: when the fuel pump went tits up last year... well, my Saab went for a second time... yeah... electrical problems my arse. Later this year I'll refurbish the pump and level sensor and fix whatever crappy things they did myself.
No, Saab does not suck any more than other cars do. I've had four Saab's and apart from normal wear, no problems. Parts are available everywhere unless you live in North Korea or some other rat-hole country. Or, you're doing it wrong.
That is the risk of buying an old car with low mileage. It might mean that the car was rarely used OR that it was always in repair. Or maybe it had an accident and sat for years until someone repaired it. Anyway, low miles does not always mean it will be trouble free. And it is the same with all cars, not just SAABs.

I hope you sold it to someone who was willing to fix it! we should really avoid scrapping these cars, especially over mechanical issues :(

Hmm, maybe it was that in your case. However, this anecdote was from my turbo x which was a manual

Yes! I'm always worried about the metal pipe or hangers failing but the rubber "insulators " can be old and break letting us down.
indeed! gah...that sounds stressful

Tech2 saves code history, I'm sure it's saved on the car still. Worth a try at least
thanks for the tip - I'll try that

interesting. I have had airbag lights in the past but they were cim related once and seat related the second time. thanks for the recommendation
My driver side sensor by the front grill went bad on my 9-5. Pulled 2 off a junked car 3 yrs ago. Same part number. Have not experienced a light since

wow that awesome mileage. esaab might have them. local parts stores don't really carry any good saab parts unfortunately

its very very hard to find in AZ unfortunately. I'd love to, but it's just not practical to use here :( they're great cars!
Airbag light went off as car bumps so maybe it's some connection issue
it may be, I still haven't looked into it!

oh man - scary. I always fill up around 300 miles. good rule of thumb if your level sender is completely inoperable!
SAAB❤
:)
Did you mention how many km/miles you have on the tacho?...
yes it's shown in the video
Any updates on the car that did not make it all the way there?......
I have not heard anything and believe he's looking for a motor
Cool views
:)
I would love to go to the Saab meet but I don't think my 95 would make it a cross the ocean from the UK
😂😬 they have meets over in the UK too!
The airbag might be cuz you had something on the seats like a bag or something heavy
it's likely a steering wheel issue I think:(
