Yes! I've been looking at that Hang On in the background for ages and waiting for the repair. There is one local for sale that I've been waiting to even consider until I saw you work on that one!
Great to have two Lyons boys together for this repair. I haven’t played anything like these games…but I did have a Yamaha RD350 when I wa 21. I rode it from Wagga Wagga to Sydney many times in the 70s. …. they were great times. Thanks for the fun video.
I think if you push the range button when on diode mode it should cycle to diode check . If not it’s got to be one of those buttons to cycle back and forth . At least that’s how my Klein meters work .
Great update, nicely done. Amazing to see what use these little pi boards are being put to. Yes it's a shame the old board is too difficult to repair, but the end result is amazing. It would be nice if the original board(s) are sold with the machine so it could still be kept original if necessary.
Listening to the both of y'all bicker back and forth is hilarious. I do have a question. If Donnie had to choose just one of y'all, who would he pick as being the biggest smart-ass?
If you want a really good economical way to at least surface clean electronics, electric blowers are a great option. The MetroVac DataVac line of products are fantastic (great build quality, made in the USA, all the good stuff). You can get a full-blown ESD safe vacuum and blower, but I've been very happy with just the ED-500-ESD electric duster (there is a cheaper non-ESD safe one, but I'd rather pay the bit extra for the grounded model). Water can be used for cleaning electronics, but garden hose water isn't the best idea, so glad that's not what you're doing lol. Distilled water can be okay (it will pickup contaminates pretty quickly though), and having an ultrasonic cleaner can be great, but for the type of work you do, just an electric blower would be great. I'm a long-time PC builder, worked in IT for a while (I work as a test engineer for a gaming peripherals brand now, but still build PC's for my lab), and have done plenty of work on vintage consoles and audio gear (audio is my main hobby), so I've been keeping electronics reasonably dust-free for a long time now.
ABCop needs the same button that Super Hang-On needs so you can do the boost-jump. I got a handlebar button from Amazon and stuck it on the left handle. There is a spot on the I/O for it at the bottom of the SmartyPi board.
If I got that answer that "it's broke" every time one of my flight sims isn't working, I would have exploded like Ronnie too. And hit or hold down the yellow button to change sub modes on your fancy Fluke.
To play Super Hang-On you need a turbo button on the handlebars. I actually got lucky and got a set of Hang-On handlebars that were upgraded with the red turbo button on the right side. And that is crazy they used actual '83 Honda brake hardware. Very cool and more realistic. Anyway I'm going to build a motorcycle PC modded cabinet with a stripped Arcade1up Pac-Mania I got a while ago that is just the frame and marquee. Very cool stuff!
Have you got a what the TV repairman that I helped called a tube cleaner what it does is supposedly burns corrosion off the connections in the crt tubes on the oneci can hear the flyback arcing
Love your guys' pinball vids, but this one ranks up there! Keep up with the amazing, helpful content, especially the schematics assistance Ron provides. Cheers from Canada!
I've fixed a Hang On boardset before. It wasn't that broken. It wouldn't boot, but for whatever reason you could still go to self test. RAM/ROM test failed all ICs on the second CPU. There was a bank of 74LS157 connecting both CPU BUSses together, one of these was bad. After that it still wouldn't work, self test said one of the second CPU RAMs was bad. Swapped that which made the machine boot, but crash on the first frame of video. Turns out the other RAM which passed was bad as well. After that I got graphics glitches, but the game was running. One of the 74LS194 on the video board was bad. That was it. Had the machine been so broke that the self test didn't work, troubleshooting would have taken so much longer...
A guy near me had one identical to this and a Bezek for like 2-3 hundred each that WORKED! I just couldn't get over to them in time. Regrets... This is the first I've heard of the Smarty Marty boards... double regrets. There's a lot of other great motorcycle games that will play nice I'm sure. The Harley Arcade game is actually Sega too! I'm guessing that would probably play fine on that?
Some of the ranges on that fluke have two functions, I suspect given the color coding on the cap/diode selection your going to have to hit the orange shift function button to shift function to diode check mode ,, Had a person burn up two monitors , found out both displays where from japanese units designed to operate at 100V , make sure the isolation transformer has its taps set correctly and check its output voltage to the monitor.
Love all your videos I think I have seen More of your carpet than my own! Great game too Joe gets better every video talking to a camera ain’t easy My wife wants to start a quilting business and I show her your videos as a gold standard in how to talk to a camera. Press the blue function button to change to the other functions on the Fuke. I like it when you both do a video together. Keep them coming
Joey, bro you need to give Ronnie a whuppin’ y’all tell him exactly what’s wrong with the machine and he gets all bent outta shape. The only cure is a good whuppin’ 😂😂
What was causing to burn up the flybacks and monitors because you replaced the flyback and monitor 3x or 4x times and it still would damage the replaced components. Did you figure out what was causing the problem?
Considering how quickly the flybacks let out smoke they were already bad. If a board fault could cause that much damage to a good flyback in just a second there'd probably be charring everywhere.
The jury's still out but in general it's felt that nothing can burn up a flyback, except the flyback itself. So a bad board can't really toast the thing, if it burns out it's because it was on the way out anyways.
Ron, Didn't you say in a previous vid that you will be working on the PIN Whirlwind next? Both Whirlwind and Fun House were my favorites when I was a kid. As for Whirlwind, I loved the added touch of the fan being on top of the backglass blowing on you during multiball. But for me, Fun House rules. Listening to all of Rudy's comments is what made the PIN so much fun to play. I also loved the challenge of finding all the targets to advance the clock to midnight so you can start locking the balls. Which is above Rudy, if I am not mistaken. One of my favorite things to do was to hit a ball into Rudy's mouth while he was talking just so I could hear him start to gag. The closest I ever got to playing those two great PINS was courtesy of Pinball Hall of Fame The Williams Collection for the Nintendo Wii. The Wii version was nominated for Best Graphics Technology for the Wii by IGN in its 2008 video game awards, and Gamasutra named The Williams Collection the third most overlooked game of 2008. The Wii version, in my opinion, was the best PIN simulator that I ever had the pleasure of playing. To play, you used the trigger buttons on both the Wii-mote and the nunchuck and the analog stick worked as the plunger. The entire control system was centered around the Wii's motion sensor. With the analog stick emulating the plunger, the further back you pull on the stick, the further back the plunger will go. Additionally, the shaking of either the nunchuck or the Wii-mote acts just like you are bumping the actual machine to change the course of the ball. This comes in handy if your ball is about to drain via the left-side rollover. The more I think about it, the more I am considering getting another Wii just for this game and its sister game, Pinball Hall of Fame The Gottlieb Collection. Each one has some great PINs. Ah! The memories.
I think yall need counseling.. it wouldn't be there in most cases if it wasn't broken. Ron is gonna go thru it all. But he always wants to address a known problem first. Get help both of you. Lol and put Ron back in the videos... just don't let him read the comments lmao
Please do not clean up your game room for us. I really appreciate when other people can thrive in organized chaos. Sometimes, I just like looking at everything BUT the video game you're fixing just because you have such cool stuff hanging around.
haha joe said shit i love it 🤣 3 bad monitors damn, at least there's a good one in there now. do you think he meant Lyons HO like THUNDERCATS HO?, smarty pi is pretty cool, also wow that machine made $12,000 when it was in operation, so it made double it's money back 0_0, great fix and great video guys! that new owner is gonna be happy
How did you go about contacting smartypi to order? I've been sending emails to the address on the website for 3 months and have yet to get a reply. I just want my hang-on playable again.
Ahw men I love that shirt. But I think it's going to cost me a fortune to ship to the Netherlands. But keep those videos coming! I think you are the reason my house looks like an arcade now hahaha
We can see it coming from a mile away, but I still love "It's broke"
That had me laughing. I'd have told him the same thing
🤣
I really enjoy it when you both guys repairing the machines.
I love when the two of you record together! Both great on your own but even better together! Two brothers doing something they ❤
LOL! "I cap right through the dirt". Please make that shirt Joe.
I love watching you boy's do what you do. It's always good to see both the brothers working together.
Hey Ron and Joe!!
Good stuff when yall are on together like Lester and Earl.
LoL Ron. More likely the "Lyon's Ho!" is in reference to the cartoon "Thundercats".
I love it’s broke . Never get sick of it !!!! Nice job Joe ! You don’t need Ron to have a good time 😂😂😂
Yes! I've been looking at that Hang On in the background for ages and waiting for the repair. There is one local for sale that I've been waiting to even consider until I saw you work on that one!

push the yellow button to switch modes to diode check
Use compressed air to install handlebar grips. Takes them off, too.
Hairspray worked for installing, Stanley knife for removing but good tip if I ever need to do that again
the yellow button should get you to the diode function
I have a feeling Joe already knew that 🙂
Turn the dial to cap / diode and press the yellow button.
The yellow button switches between the yellow option and the other option.
5:30… let the fun begin 😂😂😂

That smarty board is something! Super cool guys..
Keep it "broke"
Really cool vid Guys. You did a great job restoring it.
Love the video. Can't wait to see a video of the Funhouse pinball machine refresh
Listening to the both of y'all bicker back and forth is hilarious. I do have a question. If Donnie had to choose just one of y'all, who would he pick as being the biggest smart-ass?
????? We're waiting
Maybe it's Lyons HQ (HeadQuarters)? Hi Joey & Ron! Hello from Finland!

Thank you Audioman
Always loved the cabinet design on these games.
ABCop needs the same button that Super Hang-On needs so you can do the boost-jump. I got a handlebar button from Amazon and stuck it on the left handle. There is a spot on the I/O for it at the bottom of the SmartyPi board.
Very cool video. Thanks for posting this.
Careful Ronnie!! you about revealed yourself that time :D :D
Great video. This will help my with my hangon which has most of the same issues 👊🏻 I hope you ladz are ok in Sth Carolina
If I got that answer that "it's broke" every time one of my flight sims isn't working, I would have exploded like Ronnie too.

Lions Ho might be from Thunder cats
nice! smartypi board is so cool
Oh I thought the After Burner one didn't turn out? Or maybe I imagined it. Glad these games can find a new life through some replacement hardware.
Is that the way those bikers ride on 85 south through Charlotte?😎. Nice work 👍
A guy near me had one identical to this and a Bezek for like 2-3 hundred each that WORKED! I just couldn't get over to them in time. Regrets... Maybe, but I haven't tried adding any roms to it, it comes with a set already installed...
Hey man!!!! You save my hang on CAB !!!!!
holy cow those are beefy boards!
Nice Fluke 😂 want one.

Way cool!
What about license, you didn't have to move the ROM over ?
Love all your videos I think I have seen More of your carpet than my own!
Great game too
Joe gets better every video talking to a camera ain’t easy

Press the blue function button to change to the other functions on the Fuke.
I like it when you both do a video together.
Keep them coming
Thank you Kevin, tell you're wife she'll be just fine and she'll get better as she goes along. Thanks for watching!
Oh I’m laughing hysterically when Ron & Joe forget for that split second they are recording and self correct themselves!
Whoops
havent watched yet, it better not be a missing isolation transformer LOL
Joey, bro you need to give Ronnie a whuppin’ y’all tell him exactly what’s wrong with the machine and he gets all bent outta shape. The only cure is a good whuppin’
😂😂
Lions - Ho made me think of Thunder Cats. Lion-o yelling Thunder Cats HoOoOo!!
Ooh very nice and easier maintenance for the next owner with that board.
Was Lyons Oh on the packaging a play on Lion O from Thundercats maybe 😂?
"It is UNBROKE"
You can just write the 'un' part in, after you fix it. he he he
Joe, you forgot to unhook the monitor! Just figured I would let you know, cos that's kind of an important thing to do :P
What was causing to burn up the flybacks and monitors because you replaced the flyback and monitor 3x or 4x times and it still would damage the replaced components. Did you figure out what was causing the problem?

Hell Yeah
Guys, any plans for another Halloween themed video this year? 🎃
Maybe you will have to wait and see :)
On a Fluke meter all of the icons in yellow are accessed by pressing the yellow button.
I like how Ronnie is over here dogging Joe
"It ain't broke!"
It’s broke all right
love it! hahaha It's broke...
I think the note should say "not broke"
Too bad there is never a stock of those freaking smarty pi boards.

Hello, I am from Germany, can anybody tell me how much is this smartypi? Thanks
yellow button for any of the symbols on the dial that are yellow
When you state the game is almost 30 years old....you mean 40 years old as Hang-on was released in 1985 :=)
come on now people the diode check is printed in yellow so push the yellow button !
I know your problem.. You let the magic smoke go
I would hate to lose half my multimeter.
Yodelayheehoo
Another cool Jukebox video for ya today people...hang on...its a Hangon arcade game video..i bet i know whats wrong with it 😉
Blow that dirt out of there.. It might be conducting enough electricity to cause problems
I think yall need counseling.. it wouldn't be there in most cases if it wasn't broken. Ron is gonna go thru it all.

Thanks for the reminder!
Bit of a purist comment . . . but . . .
In attract mode, the last note of the music seems to be cut-off
It's not 'fixed', it's "NOT BROKE" :)
How does it burn up? Like four monitors. That's how.
Outride A CRT
Cabinet side art doesn't look like a helmet. Looks like the windshield on front of old school motorcycle.

i am not listening 🤣
You guys are "poor" amateurs when it comes to repairs. The basic basics are not mastered at all.
kissy kissy
i hope that stool you have that monitor sitting on is not metal shorting the pc board out.
the smarty pub is assume I just got one for outrun and if you have a problem he will help you Marty guy
How did you go about contacting smartypi to order? I've been sending emails to the address on the website for 3 months and have yet to get a reply. I just want my hang-on playable again.
That’s how we contacted him but it was several months back
Ahw men I love that shirt. But I think it's going to cost me a fortune to ship to the Netherlands. But keep those videos coming! I think you are the reason my house looks like an arcade now hahaha
Ab cop could have a shoot button maybe the p1 button
