What a great idea Maya, to ask volunteers and set up patrion
Maya would you consider adopting a doggie, that would be good security and a an excellent companion.
Your doing a grand job clearing land single-handed. Hope these volunteers arrive soon. 🙏 💚

Good Morning Maya and warmest greetings from an unusually hot UK. I was sorry to hear that you were struggling with off grid life....BUT my hope and prayers for you are that you will be able to stay on your piece of paradise and I think a short work break in Austria would be beneficial...I say Austria because I lived in Vienna for several years ...lol. Please do not give up on your dream.......the fact that you have reached out ...I am sure you will attract support and volunteers very soon...I love your vlogs!!!!! Big Hug from UK !!!

Don't give up Maya, your doing an awesome job with the property. You could get a wood chipper and use it to mulch the branches you cut. Use the wood chips for your garden. I live on 20 acres in Washington State, I understand how intimidating it can be to up keep everything. My husband is gone at work all day so that leaves me to do pretty much everything. I just keep in mind that the finished product is going to be beautiful. Also love your little happy dance when you have finished a project. Keep up the good work and looking forward to the next video.

Hi Maya, my name is Cressida and I live 4km from the river beach in your video. I’ve been here for 5 years and was also doing it on my own so understand how it can be overwhelming and understand what you’re experiencing! If you’d like to meet up for a coffee, pop over to my place here or just chat I’d really like that. Not sure how to message you directly….but I hope this finds its way to you….

What ur going thru reminds me of the children's story titled, The boy, the mole, the fox, and the horse....when the boy lost his way in the woods and he became distraught at not knowing which way to go...he said, “I can’t see a way through." Then the horse replied, " Can you see your next step? Yes.said the boy, "..Just take that."
Sometimes we get overwhelmed with step number 1000....just enjoy each day and just take that next step...you'll eventually get there :)

Hi Maya, it’s quite normal and human to feel down from time to time, don’t worry about it too much, my advice is to get a dog and a cat, they will give you love and affection more than people and you do have a beautiful soul and big strength to continue your big project!Keep the faith and move on step by step!lots of blessings to you 🙏🤗

Hi Maya, thanks for this week’s video. Living alone and taking care of so many things is really difficult. The beach you found is frequently visited by other TH-camrs who also moved to Portugal (I’ve seen it on their videos) so there may be some living not too far away from you that you could get in touch with for community and mutual support. I’m thinking in particular of ‘Ok.Portugal’ and ‘Frankie off grid’ who seem to be lovely people and live in central Portugal, although I cant be sure how far away they be from you. That’s the name of the channels and also their instagram account so you should be able to message them. It may be a good idea to contact some of them as there is now a large community of people like yourself living in central Portugal and they may be able to direct you to people who are close by. I’m enjoying your videos and hope you continue to enjoy the rest of the summer there.

For me, its an exercise in humility and patience. I also had to realise that I cannot do everything at once. So I am watching the weeds regrow when I work on my house and see stagnation in the construction when I attend to my land. And its always important to take some days off and explore Portugal or visit friends to keep my spirits up. When the summer tourists have left its ideal for a few days visits in the whole country.
As for spending the winter in Germany or so, its probably a good idea until you have a well insulated heatable space. And then return in spring with a load of new ideas, energy and building stuff 😉

Yep. It is difficult to be alone. The mind and emotions can play games. Regarding tasks, I really advocate ‘one thing at a time, one day at a time, slowly’. Refuse to look too far ahead. Focus on mindfulness - looking at and reflecting on things outside yourself. Practice being thankful. I’m sure you do try these things. The videos show this. Be thankful for the small things. These sorts of things help mood. Also, I guess as the honeymoon phase wanes it is natural a level of depression follows which will no doubt lift as life develops more of a routine. I think winter proofing the cabin is a task to be planning. God bless.

Good morning Maya, it is really good that you reach out and vocalise the realities of your adventure. We are social animals and our face to face silent and verbalised dialogue with fellow humans is fundamental to our mental and emotional health. I wonder if it is possible to organise or participate in a local community of like minded people? Maybe have a timetable of work share socilaising activities on each others properties!?? No doubt you have already pondered on this option. Best wishes.

Sounds from what you say about feeling overwhelmed, that mabye it is time for you to go strategic and create a project plan, with realistically timed, manageable and deliverable stages? Taking time to plan is never wasted time. Sorry If I am intruding. Again, best wishes.

    Hi again Maya!
I know all the work you're doing is very exhausting. I've cleared several large properties in my life and each one made me feel like an old man at times, even the first one I did when I was 20, very energetic and much stronger than I am now lol. The end result is worth it though, every time.
I understand loneliness too. The last 5 years most days, the only talking I did was to my cat and to God.
Now I'm making plans to move - again, and begun life all over, in a new country, buying land and doing whatever is necessary to make it look like yours.
I'm from America (Texas), have already lived in Europe, next I'll head the opposite direction, to southeast Asia, to what I think is the most beautiful country in the world. I'm sure this will be my last move. I already have around 50 friends living there so hopefully I will not be so lonely there. For sure, I will be very busy lol.

Maya, You have accomplished sooo much! You are on the right track with your property and seeking ways to fund your goals + get help. I think it’s important to have a vision and to establish goals for each month or quarter and for the year. Then you can appreciate your progress more and not feel so overwhelmed. As for your social life, have you thought of having a regular gathering of local artists or farmers? Everyone can contribute a dish and you can get to know and enjoy one another. I admire and support your endeavor. Wishing you the best! 💕💕💕
PS It appears you could use a wood chipper. 🌸

Ah Maya, you have taken a huge step in purchasing this beautiful land and I have no doubt it can sometimes feel very overwhelming, but remember that you have just started on this journey and things are still young. There’s so much care that needs to be put into that space as Nature has taken over and it can feel hard to catch up, but small steps go a long way.. just look at the amazing work you have already done in such a short time.. something to be proud of breathing love and life back into that place x
and looking into getting volunteers over sounds like the best idea.. my brother did that with his girlfriend, they travelled all over the place doing work away jobs and met so many lovely people while also being able to travel more affordably. I just bought an old ruin in central p too and think that might be what I will try too as it’s a nice transaction of needs, food and shelter for a little work.
And yes the loneliness can be hard.. I feel the same sometimes, love spending time by myself but sometimes miss having friends close by to have a catch up with.. I have only been here less than a year and slowly getting to know people in the area, other foreigners and Portuguese, and you will too..give it time. The suggestion of reaching out to OkPortugal and Frankie Off Grid is a great one as they look like lush people.
Keep your head up, and wow you saw an otter?! How beautiful is that place with so much nature at your doorstep 🦋🌿🌻xxx

I noticed some sound problems in the video, starting with the road trip. Did it happen by intention ? - If so, it seems you deleted too much of the sound ?
Maybe you could fix it if you still have the original tracks.
Anyway, I'm from the future - so it was no big deal in hindsight. And by the way, to the Maya from the past, you will recover well from your down. 😅

I'm afraid you are facing the reality of property ownership in Portugal: hard work & hardship. Repeat & repeat & repeat.
The undergrowh needs to be cut twice, sometimes three times a year. Never ending job. And you also need a good source of income to spend on it.
That's why so many properties in Portugal were abandoned, you need to earn money elsewhere to be able to maintain a property like yours, and most properties don't give back any income, not even enough to pay the annual local tax.
But if you haven't passed a winter in your property yet, you have only experienced the "easy life".
Winters in Portugal can be cold & damp, your property seems like a damp trap. Renovating it will be more expensive than building a brand new house, and it'll never have the confort of modern insulation, and will require permanent maintenace, ask any builder, they'll give you a quotation for free.
You said you borrowed money to buy it, and I can tell you, you'll need at least 100,000 Euros to renovate it. More if you have to pay someone to carry all materials by hand, from the road.
By comparison, building a new house with all mod cons, can cost around 500 Euros per square meter, depending on choice of materials.

Boa tarde! Thank you for sharing your feelings on the difficulties of being alone and facing what seems like an endless set of tasks. It would seem fake if it were all 🌈 & 🦋 !
I hope you see from the comments that you have a lot of support. 💕 Everyone can see that you have much to do, and have to prioritize work over answering questions. We’re here because we love watching what you’re doing, in your own style. I love your creativity & that it’s different from other channels. Your videos get better every week! 🙌🏽
Love that you are helping the trees be healthier by proving them and freeing them of the invasive vines that strangle trees. Once upon a time, there were more wild animals to do this, but now it needs to be done manually. I taught a uni class on forest fires and healthy forest management. Unfortunately, too many introduced/non-native trees & plants + loss of wildlife = more work for humans to manage what was once done naturally.
Please take care of yourself & take needed breaks into town for some human interaction. We want to see you continue your journey with continued joy. 💕
You’re doing amazing! Looking forward to your next video. Bom fim de semana! 🌺

Thanks for this video Maya. Oh humans! You run here and there looking for ''Atlantis''. How long? Green grass, woodlands, and sea views doesn't fill the void in your soul. You were designed to have a relationship with the creator of those things.
You cannot ignore God and have life. In His desperation to reach you, He sent His one and only son, innocent like a lamb, to die on a cross like a criminal, to reach you.
Maya, listen to me, if you can find him, If you can find Jesus Christ, then all of the mysteries of life, all the conspiracies deployed by governments, the military industrial complex, dishonest science and scornful friends for thousands of years, to bury this truth will become clear. Then you will find life in this life and the next, because I am not asking you to believe a fairy tale, but the Truth that can be investigated, read and reasoned with. I hope this message reaches you in your soul Maya.

Alcohol and/or class A/B drugs is what most of us use to help cope with things.
I'm not recommending any of these but it's the reality for the majority of people.
I am working my way through a bottle of Jameson whiskey whilst I watch and thoroughly enjoying myself.

    Great video Maya,
So glad that you've started a patreon and reaching out for volunteers etc this will help massively! Also you're bound to get down from time to time we all do and you do have a big task, however you have done LOADS more than most people would have done and on your own! It's Amazing! So don't be hard on yourself! You'll get it done in no time at all Im sure and however long each project takes its creation fantastic content that will I'm time earn you money and that can go towards the farm also so it's a win win, "Rome wasn't built in a day" as the saying goes! So just enjoy the experience and I know being on your own can be lovely at times of you're a people person I totally get that, but it won't be for long I'm sure and in the meantime just use that alone time/turn it to your advantage/use the freedom.
Stay strong you got this! 👍💪❤️
    Cheers from London England 👍😎🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I hope to sell everything and do something like you have done. I’m interested in Spain and Portugal. What part of Portugal is this? I would love to find riverfront property.

You need a Sawzall. It's a reciprocating saw that will cut anything. It's battery operated as well so you can take it out in the woods. If you decide to buy one make sure you get 1 that comes with both wood blades in different sizes and metal blades in different sizes. I love mine.❤

Maya, your an architect. Get creative with what Nature and Portugal and the history around you has given you and is right in your face. Create your destiny, you chose to be where you are when you bought the property. With Patrion , buy a chainsaw and safety gear, enquire with the local government office if you can have beavers, cut down the eucalyptus for money and plant local species or redwoods that help stop the fires in the future, connect with the community and ask for help, rent out your land in parcels as you clear for grazing and permaculture, help and local advice is there, you only have to ask xx

I met your latest videos, but just finding the older ones...such a nice area...with a river...and the events of not being cared for a long time...nice tall trees....so much to work on, as a scout and learning in own life...a day at a time and making plans also in order, it sure helped me in being less anxious, nervous or discouraged....and you just doing the same 🎉 soon it will be more and more pleasant 😊

You live in a nice pace. Land maintenance takes a while to get it under control. But your place is rewarding. Your young and have still the power. Take it one at a time. I dont Know which place you are living. But there are nice things to do You can join walking groups to learn the land. Thats what I did....and living nice in a remote place. Enjoy the good living in Portugal its a great place to be.

I see there on the trees ivy (hedera helix) which you cut on the bottom. This ivy is not bothering usually tree they coexist. Advantage of leaving ivy alive on the tree is that ivy will stay green in the winter and it love shade. I have this on my birch trees for last 15 years and both plants are fine. It s roots are only cling on surface of the tree not going to heartwood. I can imagine that such enormous work is overwhelming. Perhaps there will be one time I could come to Portugal to find my place and perhaps also help you a bit as volunteer :)
