Clearing your land is essential, Maya you are are not killing trees but conserving what you have and in doing so some trees and bushes have to be removed. Your land is opening up now and looks great. That river beach is quite spectacular. 💚
You have done a great job and now you have a clear canvas to see your land and make some real plans. You have saved your home from a more intense fire should it arise. Now with the sun you can think of growing your own produce or a nursery of and for native trees to sell and repopulate against the eucalyptus.
Maya I’ve been watching you doing all this work you are amazing I love to restore old buildings and you will be happy with the end result hello from Steve in fall Branch Tennessee usa
Hey Maya Beach River Fragas IS Beautiful BUT YOUR PARADISE is so much much better!!!! The Land clearing has made a great change and it was great to see that you had some reliable help....and so much firewood too ...I continue to be excited about the progress of your 'magic kingdom' Excited too, to see your next episode!!!! Congratulations on what you have and are acheiving !!!!!!!
Maya, you need to get some good tools. A small chainsaw. Petrol brush cutter, Maybe an alligator saw. A cement mixer. An assortment of hammers/chisels/screwdrivers etc.
Congrats on the clearing of the invasive trees. That's a good weeks work and the environment will be better for it. I hope the young oak trees are saved, but if not, you can plant some more. I am sure that there are quite a few growing in different places on the land that would be better off relocated.
The way you see the world is amazing! Golden sun and light glimmering through the trees and spectacular rocks etc etc Very inspirational! Thank you! I really enjoy hearing how you see the world!!
Bom trabalho Maya 😊 E pensa que podes substituir esta floresta de invasoras por uma floresta mais rica em espécies autóctones que vão trazer mais biodiversidade e além disso irá ser mais resistente a incêndios ❤️
Dearest Maya, the place is looking great. Your taking away things that don’t belong & showing what the good things can be! Hope you will start to see more people move into this part of of the country.😎v
Could you have volunteers from other countries that want to visit Portugal and stay for free? You could have them help build their living quarters to stay in, use the terrace kitchen for cooking their meals and eating. You could have them do the work every morning and they get the afternoon and evening to do what they want to do while in beautiful Portugal. I don’t know what you would have to do and what red tape you might have to work through but this would help you a great deal to keep up the land 😊
Mammoth endeavor, congrats! What a champ! and with a bright smile. Hats off to you. If you get to this question, could you give us an idea on how to find properties with these attributes, (ruins, creeks, cabins etc.) Did you use a realtor?
Hi Maia lots of work this week lovely you found people to come to help you. Looks much better. The beech river is so beautiful the water is so clean and the blue skies l missing my country a lot. Have a nice week.
Little by little the property is showing up and of course you're pleased about that. Also having friends helping out is kind of sharing difficulties and that helps, too. So Maya, what are your plans for the future months?
Wow good work on the mimosa clearing, they are beautiful trees with such a delicious blossom but they are such a PEST!! My mothers farm which is down south by the coast is a constant nightmare with them.. you clear..blink.. they reappear. And that swimming g place looks amazing! I do miss living by the sea but we are so lucky with all the rich choices in sweet water swimming spots here in central portugal! This one you showed me is only 1h away from where I live now so maybe one day we will check it out. My 2yo loves swimming but gets very bored with going to the same places all the time so this encourages us to explore and find new spots! Keep up the good work Maya, the clearing makes a huge difference x
Keep it tidy and allow the trees you want with fire safety in mind. May varns will grow now but dries out and become a fire hazard. Hope you do well in your nice place.
So happy there's help. Wonderful job done. The place is looking better as time goes. Soon it will be a magical place...Could you ask these guys to help you with the stairs building to your property? What's your future plan for your property? Could you turn the river into a swimming hole?
It is good that you are removing invasive species for natives to grow. It's also good that you left some for firewood & shade for the next few years. It takes time for little oaks to grow.
Been following you for sometime, but going back and watching episodes of missed. Looking back two years ago you cleared this forest you been able to maintain it ? I’ve noticed so much beautiful clearings. It’s probably hard to maintain those trees from growing back right away..
Great job. Beware that mimosa tree will sprout new growth in a few weeks. The only way to prevent them from growing again is by using herbicide. I have a few young (1 year old ) oaks that I can donate to you if you wish to replant with local trees. Take care.
Mimosa are a plage. Is not easy to get ride of it. You need to cut it again every time it grows. Herbicids could help or it will take a long time until it vanished
Great work! If you want to use the eucalyptus for building you need to remove the bark as soon as it is cut down or else the bugs get in and then it will be no good. So satisfying to get so much work done. I hope the mimosa doesn't come back....
I'm very new to this channel in the past few days. You have a beautiful location and the property seems to have been quite well designed when it was first built and landscaped. Have you looked into the original history of the property to see who built it and how it was designed? That may give you an indication of how to proceed. Some things you may want to keep and restore. Other things may no longer serve a practical purpose or be what you want for yourself. I'd be very interested to hear about the history of the property. Perhaps some older ones in the area could tell you about the property and how it looked. Is there anyone local, perhaps relatives of the original owners, who still live locally and have pictures?
What a huge job!! congratulations! I hope you can now plant some Portugal natives like cork oak (Quercus suber) which is drought/fire resistant and common fig (ficus carica) and Iberian pear (it has thorns and is not edible, however!). Those branches/leaves will make great compost too!
I love trees too and it usually breaks my heart when I see trees being cut down. But yes, when it comes to invasive species, like the eucalyptus and mimosa, it really needs to be done. Kudos to you for removing those giant weeds 👍 QUESTION: Will you be replacing them with native tree species? In that case have you decided which?
managing the "forest" is essential but I think clear cutting on a slope is too much Heavy rains may begin to wash the hillside away and erode the roadway
Maya... it is important to clean the land due to safety and planning issues... but it is also important not to cut everything... even in the case of acacias (mimosa) being a species originally from Australia, it provides shade, firewood and in the spring gives some yellow flowers and a spectacular aroma... All the best✌ 😉
So how did the woods get invaded by mimosas. Who brought them into Portugal? I would love to retire in your area. Are you near Castelo Branco? I also like the regions of Tomar, Oleidos, and Ferreira de Zezere ... Thank you for sharing this informative video! ❣️
My mother is terrified of spiders, i mean TERRIFIED! She puts horse chestnuts in all the corners of her house, in every room, by every door………she has no spiders in her house now, crazy but it works.
Hi Maya. I love your channel and wish you all good luck. As an architect will you be drawing up the plans for the renovation of the houses and will you share them with us. Also will you open a Kofi account, I feel it will be helpful for you. Love from a South Yorkshire Grandmaxx
Maya don’t you think it’s better to remove all the mimosa due to the risk of fires?I would ,you can allways plant other trees eventually gif shade plus they can still grow the ones that were cut down !!Are you gonna show us the place where you are living?I would love to see thd inside

The best way to kill that invasive species and not sprout Back is to take a 10cm bark from all around the tree. You now have to keep that area in supervision… more Light means more oportunity for more mimosas to sprout
Kill the spiders! That is dangerous to rescue them because they are probably poisonous. It looks like a brown recluse . Congrats on your water connection! You are such a hard worker and I am very proud of you. You are a great example of a good work ethic to people that are young like you. Too much mimosa cutting! It’s boring. Keep up the good job! You’re not killing trees, but mimosas are the most hazard for spreading fire in Portugal. They’re not native trees and anything around them are killing by fire.

The clearing has given you real joy. So lovely to hear.
Okay, the sunlight glimmering olden through the treets, bathing the rivver stones into a yellowish golden colour, it looks nice, I can relate to that.
Some things, you hide it in my heart, perhaps better, so a long time, becomes the story.

What a fabulous location, which was hidden by the overgrowth, especially with the stream, waterfall and paia fluavia.

You have done wonders. The more you clear the more amazing it looks. Good job Maya.
Thank you so much! 🤗
I think the cut off tree pieces can nicely be used to build your stairs next to the white wall
Love your spunky attitude girl ❤️
Bravo! What a big work is finished. Is such a very nice place, with the new look around, with more light!👍👏

Yes the mimosa will come back but easier to handle hopefully.
Maya - White vinegar, Lemons or mint are said to deter spiders - I have not tried it, but give it a go and see if it works!

A problem with removing all the invasive trees is the risk of mudslides erosion during the rains.
I got fobia of spiders 🕷 😬 All the years that i lived there never seen such big spiders....😲😲😲😲
Oh no I can understand, they are big!
Hi Maya, how do you finance your lifestyle. xx Tony UK
