May I suggest retaining as much water on your land from your springs/ streams. Also, in future, harvest as much rainwater/ greywater as possible. Also, probably a good idea to start removing the eucalyptus and mimosa from your land and replacing with more native species. As somebody else suggested, get more woodchips, good sources of manure or perhaps a few goats that will help maintain the undergrowth and be good company. Good luck.
Fabulous advice about the mimosas and eucalyptus as they are species that drain a lot of water from the soil. Just a head sup: there are legal restrictions regarding the retention/detour of natural streams/rivers.
Olá Maya, those pots in the ruin were to collect rosin from the pines. Many years ago that activity was a source of income for people. Also, that human presence in the forest helped to maintain in cleaned. Coragem e boa semana!
An idea for income before renovting that might not be too overwhelming is to create a few select camping spots. A few that are easier to clear and maintain. For those kinds of campers who don’t want crowded camp grounds. So happy i found your channel. Just prioritize your needs and establish some comfort for yourself to get you through the winter. Cabin insulation, solar and backup generator for a better refrigeration system, garden beds, etc. Don’t let it overwhelm you! Gorgeous property!
Like they say, Rome wasn't built in a day! Little by little, you will get there! And with good planning, you can improve your land ! Yor land is beautifully with lots of potential, patience takes Faith! Wishing you the best
You are very adventurous and driven to take on a large project on your own. I’m glad you do have some family and friends who can help you when needed. I’m excited to follow your progress 😁👍
Forza Maya. Scusa, non so scrivere in inglese corretto.
Hi Maya. I thought I had found my Utopia, but you have found the utimate dream land. The potential is endless. You are young and enthusiast enough to make it happen. If I was your age I would have thought I had found Heaven on Earth. But as newly retired our projects are about doing up an old house, sadly the land is small, because I know how hard it can be to keep on top of it. I agree with other comments,if at all possible get help by freinds and family, or if you crave for soitude get some mechanical help.Love your infectious smile, and prancing and dancing around.Like a woodland fairy. Staysafe.
Maya you have beautiful land, what makes it beautiful, having so much water around, hearing and seeing the river. A tranquil place and in the middle of nature. You have done a lot to improve and although you have a long way to go to complete, you take it all in your stride and don't let it faze you. ❤
That river is so beautiful. What a great place to have your hammock! The mezzanine looks very inviting now that you have worked so hard to clean it up.
It is a beautiful place, it will take lots of work but it will pay off. U could turn the stone houses as B&B. Don't get descourage go slow and enjoy the process.
Hi Maya, the eucalyptus and acacia are exotic trees the problem with them is they need Forrest fires to reproduce, hence the big problem nowhere with wildfires. If it was my property I would cut down all eucalyptus and Acacia trees and use them for fire wood and replant other trees from seed if necessary. Like oak and cork oak, which will bring money with harvest and they don't burn easily. But after seeing a big forest fire near my village i might be paranoid. 🤷🏼♀️ wish you all the luck and look forward for more of your adventures 😉❤
Wow what a special place jou have and so mutch Nice corners. I love it succes whit all the hard wrok Have a Nice week Maya. And yes i se goats and chilkken to to help maintain the land
I moved to a very wooded area in the MidAtlantic states. Weeds seem to grow right after I trim and clean the area. A neighbor suggested I use cardboard boxes and that is what I did put mulch on top. In another area, I tried the weed barrier cloth which just seemed to nurse the weeds back to life. Definitely try the cardboard boxes. For watering, I am trying ollas watering system. It will save you many trips and you will also be able to travel for short weekend trips and not worry. Take a look at DIYs.
Maya ! You need to start clearing out the debris in your stream areas where the water flows. Otherwise when it dries up the ground becomes hard and nasty.. Removing the twigs, long thick branches out of the stream will make a difference, even moving some of the rocks around. You have beautiful land that has a lot of flowing streams. So glad to have found your channel. Great videos. Take care and see you on the next one!! Cheerios ! 🌼
A little bit of elbow grease can bring about transformations...as you show us each week. You have a very nice way of making things feel welcoming and only using your hard work. I love the stone basin ibn the BBQ area.
Maya greetings from California. Your grill area looks amazing!! You did such a great job. You even have a table and chairs. Now you can grill and eat al Dente! You really do work so hard. A hammock by the stream is a fabulous idea. It’s so fun to watch the progress each week. Thanks for sharing.
I'm enjoying your vlogs and loving the land and buildings on it.. You also seem to have people around, family and help, so that's reassuring, as you are on your own there. Loving the outdoor kitchen area..
Your land has great potential and will be very beautiful when it is finished! I would be more than happy to come and help, but there is a small problem, I live in Sweden... 🇸🇪👍😀
Love it! Your property is gorgeous! I’m very much enjoying watching the progress you’re making. You’re doing amazing on your own. Whatever you want to do- You can do it! 🙌🏽 Looking forward to your next video. Bom fim de semana! 🌺
Dumb question but a mailbox doesn't need a number on it? A wood or stone pathway would bring more glamorous to your space. Add solar Led lights outside to make it shine at night. You added your personal touch and made things cozy.
Good morning Maia another beautiful video. I love your place the river is amazing the sound of the water running is so nice , you did a nice job in barbecue area now you can bring your friends.About the rest of the land you need to have some a device for the staff you curt don’t come back again.Have a nice week
Hola Maya!
Thats amazing. What do you do in Winter ? I am Really into Portugal I did Erasmus in Porto. Will Never forget this experience. Great Culture, heartwarming People, landscape and Food. Such an amazing Country ❤🇵🇹
The little pools throughout your land was used for livestock at one time. Maybe you can get help clearing the land by getting goats and let them feed off the vegetation and drink from the pools on the property.
My congrats for your enthusiasm which will make you ready for the future big plans. I hope you have some fruit trees on your property. What is the best way to make the property give you an income? Following your vids with great interest, Maya
Must be so satisfying to clean the land , looks so beautiful already! Hope you will have time to get rid of the invasive plants like eucalyptus and the mimosa :)
What a beautiful area Maya. You certainly have a lot of work ahead of you. Thank you for sharing the trees with us. Could you use some areas for wild camping?
Beautiful piece of land. While a huge part of Europe is having water problems, you have enough. I can't wait to see how much water there is in winter. Will the terrace in front of your cabin and above the river, the food growing area ?
Hi Maya, Great video! The homestead is looking FANTASTIC! You've done so much more everytime you post! The bar area looks great and as for the land it'll take time but it will get there for sure. I know it's money you don't have right away but you'd really benefit I reckon from a couple of pieces of equipment like a mini excavator and a mini ride on mower/ garden tractor that you can attach mower attachments and blades and other things to as that would help you rip through the weeds the dead wood on the land and move it all in one go! You might even be able to hire one for a few days (until you can afford to buy one) or just try to find a cheap second-hand one that's in good condition, whether in Portugal, or abroad (and get your friends or family to bring it to you next time they come?) Just an idea as this would enable you to do so much more and tackle the stuff you're unable to on your own at the moment.. you could probably get one in good condition pretty cheaply second hand from perhaps someone who's got a big garden. Have a great weekend! And look forward to your next video! Well done! Oh and by the way BE CAREFUL of those snakes! I think water snakes are highly venomous/deadly! (I know sea snakes are and generally no antidote I think I heard) I'm not sure if fresh water snakes are the same but either way perhaps get someone to take a look around the property find out what types you have just incase you ever get bit while bathing or in the woods, you can be prepared! Take care cheers from London 👍😎 🏴
i think you need to teach yourself chain saw tree felling and then you can cut up and have fire wood for winters love the land and see its not been worked or maintained for years would love to know what you want to end up with etc thanks for video etc
I love your videos Maya, I accidentally stumbled across them while watching others. I find them so relaxing and interesting. Watching how you change the place as the weeks go by. Who built the wooden hut if you could call it that, more of a wooden house. How long has it been there 🤷♂️
Hello Maya, you are very hard working and have done allot in the short time you have been there. The one thing I worry about and wish you would spend some time and energy on, are the steps leading from the road to the cabin, They look very precarious and I would hate for you to loose your step on day and have a nasty fall
I can understand that you feel a bit overwhelmed by all the work that you have ahead of you. But one day at a time. Will you be removing all the eucalyptus and mimosa and replacing them with native tree species? I would definitely want to do that if I were you. I love your piece of paradise down by the stream 😍
Maya, the terrace of houses looks as if they could be renovated. Could you renovate and rent them? I’d treat the terraces with systemic weed killer. You probably are reticent to use weed killer but I suspect it is the only way to kill the ferns/bracken more permanently.
I don’t think there’s a more positive person with a wider smile on TH-cam! Thanks for the good vibes Maya. It’s infectious ;)
Oh, thank you very much 🥳
Great progress, do a little every day it soon adds up to a big change, keep happy 😃👍
Thank you! ☺️
Respekt!
Whilst your waterholes are low, ideal time to clean them out, and your river bed. You have done wonders all ready, be proud.
Yes, that's true! Thanks 😊

Fabulous advice about the mimosas and eucalyptus as they are species that drain a lot of water from the soil. Just a head sup: there are legal restrictions regarding the retention/detour of natural streams/rivers.
And eucaliptus trees can be a serious fire hazard
Yes, goats are great at helping to clear undergrowth.
Great advice on the water and trees. Love goats, but they eat literally everything. Sheep are better. It is preference, of course. 😁
Thanks for the advice. I am having help to clean the forest area, but in this heat they can't continue, but hopefully soon 💪
Olá Maya, those pots in the ruin were to collect rosin from the pines. Many years ago that activity was a source of income for people. Also, that human presence in the forest helped to maintain in cleaned. Coragem e boa semana!
Obrigada e igualmente!
I was about to post the same! That's true, i father collect when he was child. he born in place really simillar to this one! Obrigado Catarina!
You are a very brave young lady…I wish you only the best.❤️
I was smiling with you when you finished installing the hammock. So much joy!
I love nature so much. It just has its own way.
Now I know mother earth loves you.

Use the cement pillars to surround a large flower garden or parking area to secure cars from slipping forward..oh just an idea😊
You are very adventurous and driven to take on a large project on your own. I’m glad you do have some family and friends who can help you when needed. I’m excited to follow your progress 😁👍
