Lexus RZ 450e: steer by wire system with yoke. One Motion Grip: real-life review by Maciej Pawelec

  • The One Motion Grip steer-by-wire system is one of the most significant new technologies featured in the Lexus RZ 450e. There is no mechanical link and no traditional steering column; instead, an electrical connection is used to send inputs from the steering wheel and from the wheels. The result is instant response and more precise steering control.
    The driver will also notice less steering wheel sway when travelling over rough roads; stable control and correction in strong crosswinds; and excellent straight-line performance on angled surfaces.
    The optional One Motion Grip system comes with a new steering yoke, replacing the traditional steering wheel in Lexus RZ 450e. The technology requires less steering effort from the driver; with only a 150-degree turn of the yoke needed to move from the straight ahead to left or right lock, there is no need for hand-over-hand turns.

    But what is you are going fast, but you need to suddenly turn lock to lock really quickly? For example if you start losing control and need to correct it? Will it just only let you use a certain amount of lock at speed?

    • @jaidonrymer3621
      @jaidonrymer3621 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      You don't use a lot of lock at speed to catch a slide, if you think about it carefully when catching a slide on a traditional steering wheel you never turn it more than half a turn keeping both hands on the wheel, any more would be a large overcorrection.

    Nie wiem co sądzić o ogólnej koncepcji wprowadzania takiego systemu zmiennego przełożenia układu kierowniczego.

    The steering yoke will never be better than steering wheel, period. Steering yoke might be useful when if the car start to fly so you can use the yoke to take off, until then steering yokes are simply unnecessary trend. , confusing and complicated.

      I remember when someone told me that Digital cameras would never replace 35mm Cameras. Hmmm?
      In the video it does some tight turns a lot easier, but - how often do most people need to that? Does the driver know exactly where his wheel's are (without cameras) - imagine trying to turn into a car wash -which has that tire catcher thingy. Even with a tight turn, we generally know how much the wheel has turned... etc.

    • @lightshunshine3861
      @lightshunshine3861 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This teering yoke is just an additional option, if you use a steering wheel with that technology, it means the price will also go up, the problem is that if that's the case then only those who are considered loyal Lexus customers will buy, because usually it's about price increases for those who are not loyal Lexus customers. think it's just a bad thing (doesn't sell)

    • @issrx8412
      @issrx8412 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Do you know that Tesla uses yoke but with traditional steering wheel? Here you have the steer by wire system and because of that it is completely another solution from the usage point of view.

    • @mikerelvas
      @mikerelvas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@issrx8412 exactly. The steering ratio on the Lexus solution is much quicker at low speeds which, as demonstrated, allows you to make very sharp turns without ever needing to go hand over hand on the yoke. Tesla, on the other hand, gets many complaints because at slow speeds you need a lot more steering lock to get the car to turn and, for people who have always been used to conventional steering wheels, it can be quite hard if not almost impossible to get used to.

    • @xMaFiaKinGz

      Tesla didn’t invent yoke steering wheel as it was there many, many years before Tesla was even founded. Tesla is like the Apple of cars, but like Apple, planned obsolescence and right to repair is their issue. At least with Lexus/Toyota you will have reliability, good exterior and interior build quality and excellent customer service.
