    This is the all-new Lexus RZ! It’s the first Lexus designed to be purely electric, even if it does borrow lots of parts from Toyota along with a few ideas from Tesla! So let’s take a closer look…
    There’ll be no mistaking the RZ for a different Lexus! There’s no grille upfront (strange for a Lexus, we know…), while the rest of the car is covered in sharp creases to really help it stand out. It’s got some fins at the back of the roof, and we think the two-tone paint job is pretty slick.
    Step inside, and you’re greeted by a 14” touch screen infotainment system. But that’s not what you’ll notice straight away - that will be the yoke steering wheel! That’s right, Lexus has clearly borrowed some ideas from Tesla with this one, although the new electric steer by wire system should make the RZ’s yoke much easier to use than Tesla’s!
    When it comes to power, the RZ is equipped with two electric motors as standard, which will provide around 313hp. Lexus also claims the RZ should hit 60mph in 5.6 seconds - not bad for a small SUV!
    We’re expecting the RZ to cost from around £50,000, but will it be worth it? Mat’s taking a look and sharing everything you need to know!

    The only ones who keep thinking in “beating Tesla” are automotive journalists. The rest of us have moved on and see widening offering of EV’s that fill the market. Most people don’t need 400+ HP or 500km of range. Proof of that is in the sales.

      Tesla are absolutely killing everyone when it comes to EV sales. The range is why. Take the RS Etron at 70mph on the motorway. It's range drops to around 180 miles. Industry estimates have them 7 years in front in terms of battery efficiency.

What really Tesla is attracting buyers with their efficient charging network. What won't be a case in next 2 years where the changing network will be similar for other manufacturers as well. Toyota will kill Tesla end of 2030 with their light years more reliable evs and better patent like solid state battery. Not mentioning their sheer experiences in passenger cars.

      One faulty sensor and a not so perfect software update and the car gonna go into full steering angle during fast travel. Yikes.

      The steer by wire is actually old technology. Some old Infiniti vehicles like the Q50 had this system...the main complaint was the synthetic and disconnected feel of the steering. That synthetic feel was also because of the drastic change between the different driving modes. But this is lexus...they tend to know what they are doing...

      That is a fair point. However, I think that the Tesla interiors are more comfortable but look less so. I'd always get the Tesla because once you live with an EV you realise how much better Tesla's are altogether. I won't try to convince you as I know that won't work but I have had a couple of friends who bought other brand EVs and who then, after living with them for a while, just wished they'd gone for the Tesla instead.

      @@topriskydisky5109 TBH yes when I bought my Model S 5 years ago the panel gaps were noticeable and it did bother me a bit, compared to my previous ICE Lexus that had none. However, that perception is only skin-deep. While I had to take my lexus in many times to get parts serviced an repaired, I took my Model S in zero times in 5.5 years of ownership. The only thing I changed were tyres over its ownership. Now that I've lived with a Tesla and came to appreciate the real reliability I've put in an order for the Model Y. Man if you see the newer Model Y and 3 that they deliver today, they've got build quality equivalent to german brands. It took Tesla about 15 years to begin life and overtake or equal legacy brands that have had decades and centuries to refine their production processes. Today it's safe to say that they're much superior, even when compared to Lexus. I'll give lexus credit on the materials and craftsmanship though but I would not trade it for Tesla reliability today

    The 2014 Infiniti Q50S Hybrid had steer by wire. It worked beautifully and it was far less effected by road imperfections and water.
    The rearview mirror/tv screen is a great feature (already in the 2019 RAV4 Limited) it has 2 main advantages. The viewing angle is user adjustable and your head can be in any position to view the entire screen. A conventional mirror requires your head to be in one position to view the mirror correctly.
    Although I would never buy an all electric car, these are good options on a plug-in hybrid.

    • @hy77281
      @hy77281 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Definitely looks cool but Insane performance? Lmfao. It has less power than any standard Lexus using a 20 year old 3.5L V6, gets crap range, and charges at a slow 150 kw when others are hitting 200+. It’s not just mediocre performance when compared to EVs, it’s mediocre performance compared with anything with 4 wheels.

    • @willnye9788
      @willnye9788 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the RZ hits all the right marks but performance wise it's not going to be the most amazing things. Will 300hp be enough? Absolutely, considering other EVs have that and more but they will have electric motor issues and lose range in the battery after about 3 to 4 years while Toyota/Lexus will surpass that.

    I am no really a fan of all electric but swaying towards it. I love my hybrids and that took me some time to get to understand as a automotive technician and husband. My wife drives a Lexus CT200h. Probably the most reliable vehicle I can still repair minus the headgasket repair as it’s pretty much a Toyota Prius motor. Long story short. This was a well thought out nice review. Lexus is going to change the game with this new line up of electric vehicles coming. Being it shares with the Toyota Bz and Subaru partnership. That alone helps the consumer have confidence that this isn’t just one small company where you can service the car if it breaks they are and will be prepared to handle them. Unlike Tesla I can’t even find a Tesla dealer anywhere near my home. My relative got locked into his Tesla when all the electricity failed that was a scary shock. So if it breaks at least I can bring it to the nearest Lexus dealership. Unlike all the other brands. I did hear you mention the rear roof being similar to the Lotus. As much as I love and own a few Lotus vehicles and want the electric car Lotus has built I won’t get one. Due to of the low dealership service centers, practically non existent, and unavailable in my area. Lexus will be successful. The next Luxury EV I have my eyes on. It’ll have to keep my wife and family safe on the road. None of these crazy self driving unreliable stuff. That drives me nuts. The steering wheel and turning radius is neat.

    • @RJayStyle
      @RJayStyle 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @SwissnessVd it’s all good no offense taken. You can tell that to my cousin who got locked in his Model X for a good 30 minutes freaking out I had to talk him into staying calm. Wait until you have a loved one calling you…His windows wouldn’t power up as well it was dead so he was sweating his head off in Vegas at 113 degree F weather in the middle of know where. The inside door mechanical handle did not operate on the “driver side” having him to climb out the passenger side. On top of many other issues I won’t even start. So call me b.s. hope this doesn’t happen to anyone else. I’ll never let my wife or kids drive one.
