I'm a gamer. I love playing VR games. If they get a good catalogue of VR experiences, release some real controlers, sort out the weight imbalance, increase the FOV, increase the hand tracking speed, give us a battry strap to remove the wire and lower the price a bit more, I'd be tempted, as it stands I can't justify it. I really hope that it does grow up some more though as I think that what they have done, it looks to do reasonably well, but for that price, I'd expect those points to be fixed too. Sticking with Quest 3 for now.

You don't buy it ONLY for what it could or maybe will be. You don't buy it ONLY to do ONE thing.
If you hear someone's example use case and say, "Well I don't need to do that, so this thing is worthless!. Worthless, I say! Worthless," then you're missing the point. There are many things you can do now. Other things you'll be able to do soon. And there will be surprises, with new things you can do that you didn't expect.
My first computer came with no software other than a BASIC interpreter. I had to write a program in order to get it to do anything. I could save programs to cassette tapes. Eventually I got a disk drive. I got more programs to run. I got a technical manual that told me where I could Peek and Poke to make it do cool things. For years that computer with 64KB of memory got more and more useful to me. Then I upgraded to a computer with 512KB of memory, that also got better and better for years.

Kudos for testing it out as it is. Vision Pro is an incredible first effort. With the typical "first generation" pain points.
Some people want an iPhone 15 in 2007... which was never going to happen. You can't get to a $1000 or $1500 Vision product if you don't start here.
I look forward to the Vision _____ products of 2028 or 2031. They're gonna melt faces. I sent my almost 70 year old mother into Apple to try AVP. And... she calls me after. "Mike I never curse and I cursed in that store."
This lady was never going to use a Meta Quest 3 for VR games, but she'll someday buy a Vision Pro, when it doesn't cost twice her 3 months of food.

I know a lot of us are waiting for a better value down the line. I do find myself curious about what peripherals might be introduced. The iPad was introduced on the premise that your fingers were all that was needed. Then the Apple Pencil was introduced and eventually the Magic Keyboard brought the iPad to its full form. We know Apple won’t just copy the same controller format everyone is doing, so what will that look like?

Why does it seem like the more Vision Pro vids I watch that the emperor in the parade looks more & more to have no clothes? I know the Vision Pro is a *nice* headset (shouldn't anything that costs $3,500 be nice!!?!). It just seems to be much ado about nothing. I haven't heard any well articulated reason why the AVP is truly worth it. What's the magically reason, the X-factor, that makes it so compelling? To date, not one user of the AVP has been able to present a case and lay down the evidence. The naked truth: the Vision Pro is just an expensive AR headset that does AR things.

That you can't or shouldn't change your mind about something, or that it should have some kind of reputational cost to do so is, I'm guessing, a bug of tribalist ideology.
The very point of formulating an opinion in the context of changing information is that it can/should change.

I think what people are missing about AVP is Vision OS. It's not just another VR headset and people completely miss the platform Apple is trying to start. IMO Vision OS itself is the killer App, it's the bedrock for Apple's idea of the next step in computing. Their vision of the transition from the 2D GUI interface to a 3D spatial computing interface.

Great video and it mirrors a-lot of my own feelings on the product. I like you was 100% returning it the first week as I was not too impressed. The reason I was unimpressed because I was forcing it to do something it wasn’t ready to do. Once I started using it more and integrating it into what I wanted to do, it clicked. I do believe this is the future of computing. Is it a perfect device, no not by a long shot. There are lots of room for
Improvement. However it is the most advanced piece of tech I have ever used and it incorporates really well into my workflow.
It’s not for everyone and it’s not meant to be at this stage. It is not at all for gaming but for work productivity. It helps out my workflow so it’s worth it to me. My workflow is entirely windows based as well, I do not own a Mac.
On top of my workflow improvements I get the benefit of excellent media consumption whenever I get time. For gaming or casual media consumption you’re much better off with the alternatives. Which are all great in their own way. To me this isn’t a replacement of any of those other VR/AR devices but a new product line that sits beside them.
It’s really something you need to spend a large amount of time with to understand it. To use it for a day or two isn’t going to impress most as they won’t get to wrap their head completely around the device. It’s something that continually gets better with use.
Is it expensive yes it is but to me it’s worth it. It’s a high end top of the line the line piece of tech from Apple. I wouldn’t expect it to be cheap or affordable at this stage. Just as I wouldn’t complain about Porsche or Ferrari Pricing. Future generations/iterations will eventually bring the price down. I do believe this is going to be a longer time frame than most think. This is an aspirational product at this stage in its life. This product will only make the other products better and push AR/VR further. Once again great review/perspective on the product.

Great video. I believe you. A viewer can learn a lot about a product and what it can do by watching tech TH-camrs, IF you know what to listen for. Apple is NOT profitable for tech TH-camrs with the ONLY benefit being early access. The rest of the tech industry is completely different, flyovers to beautiful locations, sponsors videos (2-15k I’ve heard whispered) and GIVING devices away. Possibly “offending” brands you have or want to have a relationship with can get you slowly shut out. So when you hear one compliment Apple, believe them, they have absolutely nothing to gain. Except the respect of the outnumbered Apple users looking for “honest” reviews.

  • @paulburke336

It's a VR headset. It covers your eyes and you see everything through it.
Standalone VR has been around for about a decade.
I can see from the videos (I'm in Canada, can't buy it yet), the Vision Pro has very high end screens, does amazing eye tracking and hand tracking.
But, after all this time and development by Apple I'm surprised they didn't manage to do better in weight and comfort, or even battery life (the Oculus Go battery lasted 2 to 2 and a half hours).
I can connect my PICO 4 to my laptop and have multiple monitors, Vision Pro launched with one monitor from a MacBook.
In my mind it appears unfinished and I would not spend $3,500US in the hope of where it goes from here. For that kind of money I want a lot more than potential.
But I'm sure it's really good.......

I know practically nothing about this. However, Apple's new product track record is 3- to- 4 years before it is reasonably functional (more of a mature product). Like the Apple Watch, functionality is hobbled to allow annual update hype, and for early adopters to buy it multiple times

Now having said that...what does it add to your life ? well as of now late february you can have a tv take up your whole wall in crystal clear 4k...OR augment your reality and watch it in a theater or outside in one of the environments "more to come by apple" you can also augment your home digitally...replace the windows in your home with beautiful scenes..in my master br it looks like im sleeping at a space station like in star trek cause i see space outside..in the kitchen area i replaced the window with scenes from a jungle...living room area like im at a beautiful beach.
you can place lifelike 3d objects all around...example i have a 3d model of a lambo in my driveway.. i have it overlay my regular nice paid off car..so i have the illusion i can touch it.. and when i walk outside my front yard i can see that lambo if it was actually there...its things like that what avp can do..its augments your reality..is it needed...No..its just for fun/luxury..but if you can afford it an have nothing else to pay down..its a fun toy to have..thats the audience apple is looking for.

Jason awesome review. If you were trying to win the popular contest you’d die on the hill that everyone wants you on, instead you have the humility to admit when your prospective has been shifted. The Vision Pro is not like any other piece of tech, you do need to spend real time with it to completely grasp the entirety of what the vision is, stands for, does and the many doors it opens. Telling someone you can actually pick up a virtual file and drop it in a folder like a physical object with your hands or how you can use the Virtual space as a blank canvas and paint all around you your research and ideas as you brain storm would go right over someone’s head if they’ve never done it before. For me 3 weeks in. I barely touch my iPhone at home, I lose track of it often now, I’ve thought about selling my iPad Pro. The Apple Vision Pro has added tranquility to my work when I’m working on my Mac when I’m in the environments.
By the way you can say “Siri, restart Apple Vision Pro” and it will restart.

We get it - the experience is super immersive. But at $3,500, it’s also meant to be a super exclusive one. I say good for those who can afford it and enjoy it and good for those who are not willing to part with that money for a device with so many trade-offs, starting with facial discomfort and subpar pass through cameras. I am sure there’ll soon be a cheaper device on the market that will deliver the same experience at a fraction of the cost. Probably not by Apple though.

I haven't tried the AVP but I will say, hand tracking is just not a great way to interact with a vr interface. I feel like I have orders of magnitude more control with motion controllers compared to hand tracking, maybe we will get tracking rings (for your fingers) or tracking wrist bands that close the gap , it seems to be critical to the speed and accuracy, maybe the polling rate is too slow, maybe has to do with the cameras not being able to see thru your hands, unfortunately hand tracking is not magic, it works as well as I expected it too

I can't help but all the videos about Vision pro make me feel WTF people with absolutely no imagination who discovered VR technology that has been with us for decades but they just noticed it now... except for a few fields where it definitely has good uses unlike but I don't see a future for them in the same way that I didn't see it with the 3D TV boom a few years ago.... they say there is also a future, films will not be shot in any other way than in 3D :D:D:D hahaha who offers 3DTV today, which was recently the the future and every TV manufacturer knew what they were going to sell in 2024 and now NOBODY knows that 3DTV was a failure and it's the same with VR

This Vision pro will not be for everyone and will not have enough sales where it will replace the iPhone. Apple will keep raising the price of every new vision pro that comes out and accessories cost extra instead of coming with it. Then they are going to offer subscription services for it that nobody will be able to afford. This is a product that very few will be able to afford and I can't afford having a son with special needs

Here's the deal I really need your help with this guys cause I'm really struggling. I'm having a really difficult time with Apple right now I have all their products I have the Apple Watch Ultra which I really like probably my favorite Apple product and then I have my iPhone 15 Pro Max Win terabyte I have a MacBook Pro I have a 2018 iPad Pro Still works great but here's my issue. There's no multitasking on my phone which is killing me and my iPhone 15 Pro Max feels exactly like my iPhone 13 Pro Max, which felt like my iPhone 11 felt like my iPhone X and so many ways. I don't know if I'm going crazy, but it's really hard to buy the same phone over and over again and Siri is complete garbage and I really want company is going to lean into AI and also lean into strong features like multitasking and things that Samsung is doing and I think someone said it when they said Apple wants to sell you multiple products so if they make one product better than the other product, you might just buy one product. I feel that way about the iPhone if it were as good as the Samsung phones with multitasking in AI maybe wouldn't buy that tablets me know your thoughts I'm just getting bored with Apple and I feel like they never really innovate that much and I'm use all their default apps because I try to support the stock situation but I really find myself bored. Let me know if you can help me through this, I wonder if I should get a Samsung S24 ultra or S25 ultra down the line to feel something different.
Have you guys ever felt this way here's another thing voice texting on iPhone is painful. I remember having android phones and really appreciating how accurate the voice texting was that actually actually bumps me out about Apple to. Also, how can you sell? A premium smartphone has to have such a terrible assistant. Siri literally feels like they just forgot and literally don't care anymore.
Thoughts 💭 make it make sense I didn't wanna leave Apple, but I feel like apples leaving me and it's really hard to make sense of it all right now.

If you want to do multitasking on a phone, you'd be better off with a fold or equivalent, for more screen real estate. While any android phone can do multitasking, you are really limited to split screen, or floating apps, but it can be fiddly on the average smartphone screen.

I’m all Apple too but I don’t buy as frequently. iPhone 12 mini, Apple Watch Series 5, 11” iPad Pro (2018), 13” M1 MBP. Consider not buying a new Apple product until it’s gonna change the way you use it. These products are so great that they actually have a longevity to them that others don’t. I have to imagine that you don’t buy a new car as soon as the next model comes out, and you might start considering these feats of technology in a similar way. That money can be put to new experiences and when you do actually upgrade, the incremental updates consolidated are amazing. I guess the fundamental question to ask before you upgrade is “is my current device failing me in some meaningful way. Does this new device solve that?” I hope you’re able to find some peace and some contentment, because you actually have in your possession what only 1% of the world can really afford to have. Don’t get bogged down by what your peers have or what you see online as it’s a miracle to live in a time where we can experience all this. Literally stuff our ancestors could never dream of.
