That’s because people confuse or simply don’t know the difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin. Dehydrated is lacking moisture, dry is lacking natural oils. So if you have naturally dry skin your skin doesn’t produce enough oils on its own. You can have oily, combo or dry skin and your skin be dehydrated at the same time because it’s lacking moisture aka water. Hyaluronic acid help skin to retain moisture not oils, therefore if your issue is truly dry skin then what you’re needing is oils to replace what you’re missing.
@@jacquelinew3881 Thank you for this! 💜 I have oily skin, but occasionally it gets dehydrated. HA helped getting the balance back. I can't even think where would I be if I simply jumped on the castor (or any) oil bandwagon, simply because I see and hear everyone is using it. Do research and know your skin before you follow anyone's "expert" advice.
@@angelauska You need to read both comments more carefully again. My skin is NOT dry, but oily, so putting oils on it won't help. However, since my oily skin gets dehydrated sometimes I need moisturizer with HA, which I use. But let's say someone has dry skin ( meaning lacking oils, not moisture), oils will help. But if your skin is dry and dehydrated you need both, oils and HA. Edit: Btw, I do share her opinion, that's why I was thanking her for making a distinction between dry and dehydrated skin and sharing with us what helps which skin problem.
Esthetician told me that I have very dry skin, but I’m oily in T zone, so is that combination skin (T zone oily and cheeks normal/dry or completely dry) or am I just dehydrated?
Dr. Shereene Idriss also spoke out against using skincare products that contain hyaluronic acid. She said hyaluronic acid draws moisture from your skin, leaving your skin dry.
I'm going to use water to wash my face, keep hydrated, eat healthy and exercise. Theres so much conflicting info out there, I'm done. Going back to basics.
As l reached late thirties ,l have figured out my skin is getting dry throughout the year. Moisturizer is not enough for me. I use Olive oil after taking a bath in the afternoon. I use Castrol oil before going to bed. My skin looks better and l can even put on make up on my oil based face.
I live in the humid tropical climate. I used to use only coconut oil, yet over time my skin turned really oily yet also rough on the surface. Then i started incorporating a HA toner (japan's Hada labo) and my skin felt moisturized and plump and the texture got better. Since i'm oily skinned i quit the coconut oil and only used the HA. If you live in humid climates HA actually works to hydrate.
Omggg same. My skin is still oily thanks to the hot and humid climate of SEA, but much better since I no longer have dry patches in some area thanks to HA. Judging from your username, are you from Indonesia?
Coconut oil is known to be drying and comodegenic. You could try Castor oil, raw shea butter, almond oil or jojoba oil. Castor oil has been a game changer. I had solar urtacaria bumpsfor a while which disappeared after 3 days of using Castor oil.
I live in a humid not tropical place and it’s the opposite for me. HA was the worst on my skin, making it even drier. I guess it really dependes where you live and how your body reacts to it

A agree, bought a 250ml bottle of pure olive oil squalane and love how it absorbs right in and gives me nice glow. Also I found no greasy heavy feeling with squalane.
In France we have so many of these moiturisers , we don't know what to choose from but my grand-mother, who was from the south of france, only ever used olive oil on her face, and a hat for sun protection, she had lovely skin up into her 80's.

This isn’t a video about moisturizer. It’s about hyaluronic acid. Moisturizers used to be good because they contained oils. Then they got on this “oil-free” kick, which makes no sense. Now I’m frustrated by it being extremely hard to find a product that does not have HA. When it first came out, it was always made clear that in dry air the ha will draw moisture from your skin. Somehow that quickly got ignored. Maybe I have to try oils now. It’s hard to find one that’s not irritating.
I just want to kindly point out - you answered your own question at the end of your comment. Many companies went “oil free” when consumers stopped using their products containing oils because the oils were blamed for acne breakouts, skin irritation, and other issues like seborrheic dermatitis(my mom was advised by her dermatologist to only use oil free products to control this condition and treats his directive like it’s gospel.) I’m curious if these products just contained poor quality oils or if there were other chemicals used in production that degraded the oils or caused problems on the skin and were overlooked as being the cause.
Glad I found your channel 🙂I have never stuck to any skin care routine. Have been starting to look into oils... Guess what ladies - nearly 70 now and not having a skin care routine hasn't resulted in lots of wrinkles! Nutrition plays a big part, as does sleep.
I completely agree with you. I am just starting a skin care routine, am 64, have eaten junk food and sweets my entire life and my skin looks pretty good. I don't know if it's good or not but people think I am in my 50;s.
Same here, no serious skin care routine. I just turned 74 and, except for laugh lines - which I don’t regret - I’m not at all wrinkly. I use black castor oil on my face and everyplace else to combat my dry itchy skin and absolutely love it. I haven’t put on so much at night though. I’m not sure if I can stand it but I’m going to try it.
I think so much is based on the persons chemistry as well. When I’ve used things with HA they dry out my skin and I never understood why so many people love them! But if so many people swear by it I have to believe it must work for them.
When you've used the castor oil at night (after cleansing and retinoid) do you put a very thin layer of castor oil? I know it's pretty thick and sticky...how does it work for night time?
I started just using the ordinary plant squaline. It’s absolutely lovely. I’ve stopped using creams. I also use almond oil at night and on my hair. I wanted to just strip back to basics. Less products and chemicals. Love this advice.😊
I can't lie brother, you deserve all the attention, because indeed all these TH-camrs don't say anything. They will get sponsored by these companies to shill the products... your motto will become famous when you get more viewers haha '' NO BULLSH*T '' and how it should be.
A lot of women's hair are falling out due to haircare products as well. Every product has protien in it or some unnecessary ingredients. Can you speak about this or do you just address the skin ?
@@Dr_AbsThank you! This information is very helpful. Would love to see a video on sebaceous filament treatment and management. This is such a common issue and I have trouble keeping buildup at bay. Thanks for all you share on YT 😊
Ur body already makes its own moisture. It gets moisture from blood capillaries and natural moisturizing agents like urea, squalene, ceramides etc. We are brainwashed by the skin Industry and their marketing that we really need a moisturizer. Like he says oil repels water and its the perfect moisturizer. Some examples are olive oil, Vaseline, castor oil. The only suitation where u need a moisturizer is extremely dry environment or using tretinoin. Glycerin is the real humactant that gets the job done. But companies don't promote it. Because they want to make more 🤑 rather than ur health. HA actually dries ur skin when ur not in a very humid environment. Edit: I am a Pharmacist

Okay my HA is going in the bin and I'm trying this. Many years ago I met an elderly lady who had the most beautiful skin I had ever seen ...... she told me she'd had skin cancer and on recovery the doctor told her to use Almond Oil on her face night and morning .... which she did ..... hence her gorgeous complexion. Thank you for this reminder Dr Abs.
I do actually live in a very humid climate! No not rainforest but air you can wear. Hyaluronic acid works great under my make up applie first to a damp face.
I live in an area classified as a temperate rainforest in the Appalachian mountains. I also put a serum with HA on damp skin every morning, then a moisturizer. Works great for my dry skin.
@@debyjohnson oh yeah it smells bad and tastes even worse 😂 I was looking for a stronger alternative than coconut oil for oil pulling (dental hygiene) and started learning about its other benefits. I can’t stand the taste so I mix a drop with toothpaste.. many uses for it if you can stomach it :)

Try applying HA on very damp skin. Like still dripping a little after cleansing. Work it in with the water and add more water if it feels tacky. Top with your favorite oil and your skin will be much softer and smoother.
First heard this concept around 3 years ago from a famous celebrity dermatologist in the Philippines named Dr. Vicky Belo and then recently from Dr. Shereene Idriss and now Dr. Abs. I love that derms are talking about this now coz I do feel it everytime I use a moisturizer with HA in it. It really makes sense! Harvard Health also recommends treating dry skin by soaking it in water and then covering it in an occlusive (they mention Vaseline). Do you think there are any potential disadvantages to the skin by using occlusives like oil or petrolatum? I read a few studies online that concluded both prolonged occlusion and prolonged water exposure disrupted the stratum corneum and induced barrier damage. I wonder if something like squalane oil would be occlusive enough to have negative effects.
I wouldn't say squalane is a complete occlusive - only when you apply so much that it forms a thick layer. I personally recommend to my patients to apply a thin layer so that gaseous exchange can still take place and you're not blocking the skin like an occlusive. That way, were trying to mimic what nature intended for the skin as closely as possible.
I'm glad I found this video, I've almost never used moisturizing creams, and for 10 years or more I've been using only oils and various types of serums and I'm satisfied. I used to think that maybe it was bad that I didn't use moisturizing creams, but now I won't worry about it anymore. I never liked them, their smells or consistency usually irritated me. I look really good for my age.
This is so true! Before I got into skincare 2019, I just used coconut oil and my skin was never dry and always looked good. I also started (and will never stop my tretinoin in 2019). I always get the best results with just tretinoin cream in the evening, sunscreen in the morning and cleansing in the evening. Some oil over tretinoin occasionally feels good too.All the serums and „magic creams and potions“ are just fancy and aren’t doing anything! Stay bold as you are! And don’t let the brands and sponsors make you change the direction of your content for cash 😉🫶🏻✨
I have been suffering from dry skin on my face ever since I gave birth. I used so many moisturisers and nothing worked. Saw this video and bought squalane from minimalist, sorted all my problems! Thank you for making this video!!!
castor oil for skin care should be organic come in a dark glass bottle and be hexane free Can be used with a carrier oil such as almond oil (dont use almond if you have nut allergy - almonds are drupes and related to nuts ) or olive oil can be used with it - use carefully as it is thick wash off gently after 20 minutes
Moisturizing has reversed my wrinkles. Say what you want about it not working the way it’s intended, but when you put a cream layer on facial skin when it moves/stretches, it helps prevent those movements from creating fine lines. It’s the same idea as stretch marks.
I got a sample of it and it smells terrible, like straw or some kind of old dusty things. I guess thats how ceramides smell but its kind of gross to me

Glycerin also removes moisture from your skin if the exterior environment is incompatible. Glycerin is better if you use it in winter to pull moisture from the Aïr instead of your skin like in the summer.

Any particular product you would recommend for us redheads?

My skin is very oily so I tried the oils and it just results in more oily skin. I like a matte look, therefore, I use this gel moisturizer that has Dimethicone, niacinamide, glycerin and vitamin b5. That works well to calm it down so moisturizers do work.
I was doing this for years unintentionally with either coconut oil or castor oil. It really does make a difference. When my husband moved in with me manyyears ago now, he had adult acne and had struggled with it for years. I gave him coconut oil to try for a month. It worked and he hasnt had any issues since!!! I think all the crap he had been prescribed or tried had broken his skin barrier down. The oil rejuvenated it :)

FINALLY someone said it. I try and stay away from products that use HA. I also live in a dry climate and HA just dries the heck out of my skin. Love the tip of using squalene.
I feel like this advice only makes sense if you're not using soap to wash your face. If you're using soap, it's gonna wash away the oil and leave your face feeling tight...regardless if you were using cream moisturizers or oil. What am I missing? If my moisturizer doesn't include hyaluronic acid, why would I stop using it?

I think people forget that our SKIN IS DESIGNED to protect us and keep out things like germs and other harmful stuff. It won’t absorb the products these big companies sell. Don’t get me wrong, it does absorb some things like topical medications, but this video is exactly right! I had oily skin that became dry. It was counterintuitive for me to put oil on my face because I had always been so oily. The oil on the outside keeps the moisture in. The same with hair. A tiny bit of oil on the strands keeps the moisture locked in.
This is the best video I have ever seen on moisturizing the skin and why it does or doesn't work. His videos are very visually effective for me as well. Glad I found his channel! 🎉❤
You have confirmed what I had suspected. Hyloronic acid and Vitamin b3 both dries the skin of sebum, thus it is more dry… Oils have been a great and cheap solution, because skincare products are typically loaded with the stuff, that dries the skin out…
You're so right about Niacinamide. It destroyed my protection barrier, making my skin so fragile n thin. It might be a good solution for oily skin type, but not for sensitive, reactive ect
I'm so glad you're doing this video, because this whole ridiculous notion that hyaluronic acid is the be-all and end-all for moisturizers is completely untrue. I have absolutely no medical background, but figured this out myself over a year ago, and couldn't believe no one was talking about it. Now the problem is trying to find products without hyaluronic acid, because everyone feels they have to put it in there because of the fallacy and fantasy that it absolutely must be in everything.
To be fair, per ml those two oils you recommend are way more expensive than any moisturizer I regularly use. $50 CAD for 100ml won't go far if you regularly moisturize full body and not just your face.
This was actually the best video about skin and moisturizing it on the internet that I've seen in the past 5 years. The epidermis is just dead skin and I feel like he's right about our moisturizers not getting deep into our dermis. If you just review basic science, it tells you that the stratum basal is always creating new cells and there is 20 or 30 layers of our epidermis. How our skin cells work is the skin pushes up to the surface but by the time they get there they're dead because they're too far away from the blood vessels that give them the nutrients they needs. But these dead skin cells have keratin which makes it an impenetrable barrier. Our sebaceous glands only produce oil because oil protects our skin like a barrier. So maybe in essence, all we need is a skin barrier. When we wash away that oil that was our natural skin barrier. It feels like we've heard this before doesn't it . So maybe in essence, all we need is sunscreen ? Anyways, that's all I know... so just watch the video
@@detraslaughter4770 Not quite. You can have dry or oily skin and still have your skin lacking moisture, hydration. Oils help replenish natural oils in your skin, that's why people with dry skin like using oils. But if your skin is dehydrated, regardless if it's oily or not you need to replenishes moisture, water not oils. In a few words, your skin is lacking natural oils, use oils, but if you lacking moisture use moisturizer with HA. If your skin is lacking both, oils ( dry skin) and moisture ( dehydrated), use both oils and HA moisturizer.
Hi Dr. Abs great stuff! So glad I came across your channel! Can squalene oil be used for my whole body to replace body lotion? I have dry skin on my body and combination skin on my face. Your response will be very helpful & appreciated. Thank you
Very helpful well presented information and you have lovely skin too! Will definitely simplify from now on thank you! 💕💙🏴🇬🇧
I say this all the time... lack of hydration is lack of sebum on skin, oil, we need nourishing ingredients such as: lard, coconut oil, cocoa butter etc
I bought Squalane based on your advice and it was a game-changer. Thanks a bunch Dr. Abs! But I've heard using oils can dilute SPF in sunscreens. How am I supposed to use it in the morning then??
Hyaluronic acid should come with instructions. I love HA, it makes my skin so plump and fresh, but I only use it with a face mister and then I lock it in with an occlusive cream or oil, depending on what I will do afterwards. It's just not the same without the HA + water mist.
I appreciate the no nonsense approach & scientific facts that show us the why and how so clearly. There are just too many fads that are unsupported by studies. Head scratches like HA or snail mucin that really did zero for me. Thank you for taking the time to educate us.

I am 72, never worn face foundation and only use castor oil mixed with a few drops of an essential oil. I only put it on after my shower every two or three days. Sometimes I only wash my face every other day. I do not have dry skin and I have no pimples. I also have a fairly clean organic diet with never having smoked. Thank you for this doctor God!! I have said over and over again moisturizer makes my skin dry especially hydraulic acid serums even with moisturizer and friends think i'm crazy!! Will definitely try an oil. Thanks so much!!
Your title is a bit misleading though. You are talking about ha, not about general moisturizer (which usually contains emolients and oils), many exsist which contains natural moisturizing factors and no ha at all. Some of them are created as occlusive, to prevent transepidermal water loss.
I like rosehip oil. I still use moisturiser but if if feels like it needs more I'll revert to an oil. I think hyauaronic acid works better if you spritz some hydrating toner on first before you use it, I do that with my moisturiser that has that ingredient too. I still have oil in my skin so I don't use an oil all the time.
I have used two bottles of castor oil and the results is super no side effects no acne super moisturised. And in India we have a lot of castor oil production so it's cheap and good.
I have an autoimmune disease that attacks a lot of the glands in the body that produce moisture and oils. My skin is unbelievably dry. I use a blend of 100% lanolin oil and raw shea butter to moisturize and protect my sensitive skin. Even on my face! Not everyone needs this much moisturizing but it can be used sparingly on just the driest places, especially in the winters if your climate is on the colder side.
This sounds like Sjogren's Syndrome. Is this what you have? I have this autoimmune disease and my skin on my face and body is extremely dry too and nothing works or absorbs. My Dermatologist prescribed a moisturising gel called Doublebase, but this just sits on top of my skin and doesn't absorb either! Does the lanolin oil absorb into your skin?
I remember when i was a teen suffering w bad acne and oily skin I don't even remember how or when I found this out but I literally just stopped buying all major products and switched to a vegetable glycerin bar soap from whole foods, extra virgin olive oil instead of moisturiser, some natural mineral spf 30 lotion & indian aztec healing clay 1x a week for my acne and I had the best skin of my life (so far), I even stopped using body lotion & just used olive oil straight out the shower on damp skin... years later I use all these different products & my skin doesn't look as good as it did then. I've been thinking about going back but I keep being influenced by the internet (mostly tiktok), but now this video might actually seal the deal for me. Thank you so much!
I really hope you will answer my question and it is genuine. What is your opinion on snail mucin and topical Niacinamid. It became popular with all that south korean trend. Looking forward to your answer. Great work really. Sharing your Clips here in germany. Not using all those hyaluronic acid moisturisers anymore.
Snail mucin is a complete gimmick I think. Niacinamide can be a great ingredient. I think TheOrdinary do a great niacinamide powder that can be mixed with things. Danke schon :)
I love my moisturizer BUT speaking of oils, the best oil I’ve ever tried is the Moroccan cold pressed prickly pear oil. Heaven for skin! A friend brought it from Morocco and even there it’s quite expensive. They made it in front of her.
Are oils necessarily occlusive ? Have they been tested for their capacity to reduce TEWL? I thought that by far the most occlusive ingredient that you could use was petrolatum, and that oils were not that good in doing this. Additionally, a lot of moisturisers include oils in their formulation. I am a bit dubious about this
But doesn’t all moisturisers out there actually contain oil, fatty acids, silicones etc that will trap the moisture in? It’s not like they only contain humectants, that would be a serum, but not a moisturiser.
Doc, I love your no BS content it saved me time and money. I would like to know what you think about double cleansing and the effectiveness of oil cleansers. Thanks!
Thank you very much, hopefully the channel will start to grow at some point lol. Double cleansing may help when there's a lot of makeup - I don't recommend it outside that for the following… The skin's microbiome is precise. When we cleanse we can remove the bad stuff but we don't want to cleanse to the point where we remove the good stuff too and the skin start's to suffer. Double cleansing could take so much off that it does this and also leaves the skin dry. For e.g. is you strip the skin of all it's oil then you can get dry skin easier because the oil is preventing water loss when present. In terms oil cleansers, I generally prefer them because they can dissolve carbon biomatter and hydrophobic particulates much easier. However, a good cleanser shouldn't leave your skin feeling tight or dry. Personally I actually just use water a lot and have zero issues. My actual cleanser is only used a few times a week at the moment. When you have specific issues you may need certain cleansers so don't always assume oil-based is the best. For example, during acne a cleanser with a BHA (beta hydroxy acid) can be better than oil based for certain people. Hope this helps :)
I like The Ordinary squalene oil and use it when I need a boost but mainly in my moisturizer because it looks weird on its own. I’m allergic to or react to so many of the chemicals in all the various products such as HA especially which damages my skin, so it was refreshing to find a product that doesn’t cause any reaction. Still I need to use a moisturiser as I have health conditions that make my skin irritated and red when I don’t use anything anyway so it’s not like the moisturiser is causing that but it is the only way to soothe it even if it might cause a type of rebound addiction by applying it. I know what I looked like before compared to now seeing as I physically couldn’t moisturise for so long and now I do I have skin that doesn’t get damaged or scarred permanently by simple day to day interactions. It’s not just the moisture that you need although it helps. Having a thicker and more plumped skin helps fight off damage which only seems to appear years down the line when it’s too late to do anything.
Understand your skin is the key. Use whatever that helps your skin. I use HA and Vit C serum on damp skin followed by aloe gel moisturizer. Then sunscreen on it. In evenings, HA serum and then moisturizer and tretinoin at night or just basting my skin with diaper rash cream. Works wonders to my skin because mine is oily and dry. It doesn't need anymore oil but moisture. I follow Dr. Idriss advice but improvise because now I understand my skin better.
But isn't this just making your skin dependent on a retinoid instead of a moisturizer in the process. Also applying squalene constantly, which mimics human sebum, isn't ideal long-term either?
Damp skin absorbs oils and creams the best. When you lightly blot you still have water on your face and that’s good. If water is dripping the oils won’t stay. NEVER use the same face towel everyday. When I switched years ago to using a fresh face cloth every time my face was so much better acne wise etc. if you’re using the same damp towel for face, hair or body is not sanitary especially if you already have skin issues. Start a good routine. Face clothes are so inexpensive, please buy cotton ones not polyester. I think bamboo is good. I’m in my sixties and my skin looks good for my age. All natural, no anti wrinkle creams which created terrible issues on my face. AND you must improve the quality of your diet. You heal from within. All diseases start from the GUT! ❤️

Am a big fan of facial oils! I have been using it in my night time routine for years (i have oily skin). But then I moved to US midwest with chilly winters, and i suddenly realized my oil is not working sufficiently. I woke up with dryish skin in the morning. I read its because of the heat and dry air indoors. I then started using a humidifier and the cerave moisturizer and it got fine. I wonder what worked I want to rely just on my oil, but what to do?

That’s because people confuse or simply don’t know the difference between dehydrated skin and dry skin. Dehydrated is lacking moisture, dry is lacking natural oils. So if you have naturally dry skin your skin doesn’t produce enough oils on its own. You can have oily, combo or dry skin and your skin be dehydrated at the same time because it’s lacking moisture aka water. Hyaluronic acid help skin to retain moisture not oils, therefore if your issue is truly dry skin then what you’re needing is oils to replace what you’re missing.

I have oily skin, but occasionally it gets dehydrated. HA helped getting the balance back. I can't even think where would I be if I simply jumped on the castor (or any) oil bandwagon, simply because I see and hear everyone is using it. Do research and know your skin before you follow anyone's "expert" advice.

You need to read both comments more carefully again.

Me too, the best way is to stop using products, we don't need these as we evolve.

Coconut oil is known to be drying and comodegenic. You could try Castor oil, raw shea butter, almond oil or jojoba oil.
Castor oil has been a game changer. I had solar urtacaria bumpsfor a while which disappeared after 3 days of using Castor oil.

Oil is a sealant. Not a moisturizer. You can have oily skin that is dry and flaky. Use a moisturizer then massage an oil over top to seal moisture in.
Vaseline is made from petrol products- not what I want on my skin.

Don’t get me wrong, it does absorb some things like topical medications, but this video is exactly right! I had oily skin that became dry. It was counterintuitive for me to put oil on my face because I had always been so oily. The oil on the outside keeps the moisture in. The same with hair.
I use both oil and moisturiser for both my face and body. I definitely use more moisturiser. Probably 5x at least.
I have oily skin and it just sits on the top. Moisturizer actually helps my skin.
Same. Not everyone's skin has the same properties and requirements. And one more thing, climate and season play a role in your skin needs.
I think that supports what he is saying. Moisturizer drys your skin out. At least, that is what I perceived.
@@detraslaughter4770
Not quite.

Very helpful well presented information and you have lovely skin too! I’m 60 my face is starting to wrinkle and sag noticeably now 😳 yip I know I’m 60 😂but it’s a bit depressing, living in Scotland I was never brought up to use sunscreen on my face think that’s half the problem 😳
I’ve used every high end cream under the sun spent a fortune but noticed my skin reacts badly to HA products in particular. Will definitely simplify from now on thank you! 💕💙🏴🇬🇧
How about mixing a few drops of oil to the moisture and applying it? I recently bought a huge tub and dont want it to go to waste 😢
I say this all the time... lack of hydration is lack of sebum on skin, oil, we need nourishing ingredients such as: lard, coconut oil, cocoa butter etc
I noticed this, I stopped using moisturiser and just stick to essence and serum and my skin is so much better!
I bought Squalane based on your advice and it was a game-changer. Thanks a bunch Dr. Abs! But I've heard using oils can dilute SPF in sunscreens. How am I supposed to use it in the morning then??
Thank you for all the videos 🙏. I am binge watching now. Was wondering what products can we use on the body please?
Hyaluronic acid should come with instructions. I love HA, it makes my skin so plump and fresh, but I only use it with a face mister and then I lock it in with an occlusive cream or oil, depending on what I will do afterwards. It's just not the same without the HA + water mist.
Ty Dr.Abs, I will buy the Ordinary 100% Squalane to use am & pm .
That one is my holy grail! You will love it.
I appreciate the no nonsense approach & scientific facts that show us the why and how so clearly. There are just too many fads that are unsupported by studies. Head scratches like HA or snail mucin that really did zero for me. Thank you for taking the time to educate us.
Can't believe people actually fell for snail mucin
@@Dr_Abs Wouldn't you know it the bigwigs who marketed it produced articles about how snail caretakers had softer, younger looking hands & all that hokum. Advertising is just so easy to swallow hook, line & sinker. But there are countless people really looking forward to what is real as opposed to what makes it sell. Thanks lots Doc. Looking forward to your next videos.
I have no idea how people can stand to put that snot consistancy goop on their faces.
The last time I had any alcohol was at my daughter's wedding 11 years ago. People always comment on how my skin looks so amazing...even my doctor.
Yes, I'm referring to HA and recommending oils.
I got contact dermatitis from castor oil.
Yeah.. I used snail mucin fr couple of months. Couldn't see any substantial result. I have oily skin.
I am a bit dubious about this
Me too, commented almost the same.
But doesn’t all moisturisers out there actually contain oil, fatty acids, silicones etc that will trap the moisture in? It’s not like they only contain humectants, that would be a serum, but not a moisturiser.
And if they contain oil, will hyaluronic acid naturally mix without emulsification?
@@Dr_AbsNo, but what‘s wrong with emulsifier? No offend, I just want to understand.
1:09 such a great point
I didn't use moisturizers thinking I don't need them until I had to when I had to address my dry sensitive skin...
Doc, I love your no BS content it saved me time and money. I would like to know what you think about double cleansing and the effectiveness of oil cleansers. Thanks!
Thank you very much, hopefully the channel will start to grow at some point lol. Double cleansing may help when there's a lot of makeup - I don't recommend it outside that for the following…
The skin's microbiome is precise.
Creams have always broke me out. Oils, never do
It depends on your specific skin type. My skin breaks out when i use oil
@@SEEMASHARMA-gp7usdid you use an oil that was non comedogenic?
@@AbstractMindsThinkAlike is there any oil that is non com?
Understand your skin is the key. Use whatever that helps your skin. I use HA and Vit C serum on damp skin followed by aloe gel moisturizer. Then sunscreen on it. In evenings, HA serum and then moisturizer and tretinoin at night or just basting my skin with diaper rash cream. Works wonders to my skin because mine is oily and dry. It doesn't need anymore oil but moisture. I follow Dr. Idriss advice but improvise because now I understand my skin better.
Great videos. Can you turn down the background music. It’s a bit distracting
But isn't this just making your skin dependent on a retinoid instead of a moisturizer in the process. Also applying squalene constantly, which mimics human sebum, isn't ideal long-term either?
Should the oil be applied on damp skin or towel blotted? Thanks so much. New subscriber 😊
@@pennyk1943 Thank you so much for answering my question! I was a little confused about applying oils. It’s really kind of you to respond and I appreciate it. Have a great week!
@@pennyk1943 Im an esthetician and have been in the skincare field for decades. Im now 55 and my skin on my face is not dry but looks terrible(Its gone downhill as I just had major surgery). Im just getting my appetite back so Im sure that will change. But what products do you use? I absolutely cannot stand retinoids. They irritate my skin to no end and oils just sit on top of my skin.
I make my own skincare. With organic oils and butters. So I really know what’s in. I am 53 and people think I am 10 years younger.😊
aloe vera gel mixing castor oil best combination
Should we be using oil for the rest of the body too or just the face? I’m 62, living in Chicago where we have both hot summers and cold winters. Recently turned to Palmers lotion and I feel it’s dried out my skin. What do you recommend??? Thank you!
Wow
Thank you for the information. To keep my skin hydrated, I've been using rose and argan oil on my face for over fifteen years. Sweet almond and shea body oil, while my skin is still damp after having a shower and my skin has benefitted from it. It also helps that I've never smoked, have the occasional glass of wine🍷and drink a lot water.
May be off topic. I often have chapped lips and dry eyes. When I take 5 gram of taurine, this goes away. It may also help dry skin. I also eat two cans of sardines a day because it greatly reduces inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis. I have noticed improvement in my skin, and also in hormonal balance. I like your recommendation about oil. I'm going to try that. Thank you for a great video.
yeah get your omega oils
@@NaarahLloyd I know that sardines contain omega 3 fatthy acids. I have a prescription for omega three fatty acids. I'm not convinced that this is all that's happening. This is rheumatoid arthritis, and I have had joint replacement from the extreme joint damage. Do I think it's all omega three fatty acids? Not 100%. Yeah. All people need to do to recover from RA is omega three fatty acids. BTW this isn't the only change I've seen. Maybe it's the amount of sardines I've eaten.
@HeleneLouise well inflammation is caused by that and a lack of minerals and vitamins, diet.

Recently I thought, ‘Maybe I could look at getting some laser or something like this to target fine lines etc as I’m going to be 60 next year’
but the information out there is all so confusing.
I think I could trust your opinion on this.
Will you help this massive group of humanity that don’t want a face lift or injectables?

Am a big fan of facial oils! I have been using it in my night time routine for years (i have oily skin).
But then I moved to US midwest with chilly winters, and i suddenly realized my oil is not working sufficiently. I woke up with dryish skin in the morning.
I read its because of the heat and dry air indoors.
I then started using a humidifier and the cerave moisturizer and it got fine.
I wonder what worked
I want to rely just on my oil, but what to do?
Im struggling to find hyperpigmentation /melasma routine. i mean budget range. By the way im from Malaysia! Other part of the world.
