    Your initial thoughts echo mine exactly. I had no desire to play Skyward Sword at any point since it's been released, but in the post-BOTW world, SS being the last 'normal' 3D Zelda drew me back to it and now I'm glad I get to play a traditional style game with no prior knowledge of it. Feels like my apprehension to the game was a blessing in disguise now that it's on a platform I like buying games for.

    Glad to see your thoughts, Alex! I've also stayed with motion for the most part, after trying it out. I kept drawing the sword by mistake, forgetting to hold L to use the camera, which was driving me nuts. I've now got a weird hybrid play style where I switch between pro controller and joy con, mostly because I'm shockingly bad at flying the loftwing with motion. And, you don't have to change the game's settings so it's dead easy... glad you're enjoying!

    i grew up playing zelda on gameboy and then a little bit on super nintendo. Then came Ocarina of time...a boy named chris had it and sold it to me at school for $20. I saved up lunch money for a couple weeks and bought it from him. I rushed home to play it..his save file was at the water temple so i started and beat the game from there (he was amazed because this is where he got stuck) -- eventually I started a new save file and beat the entire game. Then on my 10th birthday majoras mask came out and I actually had the strategy guide before the game came out and I studied it like it was my job. I then played windwaker and twilight princess and skipped with Wii generation. My next Zelda was BOTW.
    Playing this game reminds me of when I was a kid playing OOT or Majoras mask. It sort of feels like a zelda from an alternate reality lol and in a lot of ways I like it. Leading up to it I started my Master mode file on BOTW after 100%ing normal mode...and was completely hooked again. Its hard to feel as stimulated as BOTW with this game but like I said it does remind me of being a little kid and figuring out where everything is etc. If BOTW is a 10/10 I would give skyward sword a 6 or 7 but its hard to really judge a game now that we've been exposed to such new quality of life and "fun" factors. Im having a good time and I'm happy to pay the price to feel like I did when I was a kid.

    • @elli_senfsaat
      @elli_senfsaat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Skyward Sword's biggest problem is it's way more linear than any other Zelda title, plus it's overpacked with signpost showing directions which are obvious anyways. BotW is the complete opposite of this; the contrast between these two games is bigger than between BotW and other titles. SS HD has a hard time competing against the new Zelda-concept, while not being the best example for the old one either. At least with all the QoL changes, it may stand out on its own easier than in the past.

    I'm playing it for the first time entirely on a pro controller. I like the controls with the exceptions of the camera and sword both being on the right stick. That is a bit clunky. Being used to two-stick camera controls requires so getting used to. Overall though I am liking it just having completed the Forest Temple and the first fight with Ghirahim.

    I have the habit of replaying the 3D Zeldas at least one or two times, but Skyward Sword I only finished once and I played it never again. So this is the first time I play it again in almost ten years and I must say being ten hours into the game it's better than I expected. The Skyview Temple and Earth Temple are better dungeons then I initially tought and the art style is really gorgeous. Especially the atmosphere of the Earth Temple is fantastic. I was a bit skeptical about the HD-remaster, but it really is a really good game (for the parts that I have played).

    My experience with Skyward Sword HD has been similar to my experience with Resident Evil 0 HD; I hated it upon release, but then gave it another shot upon its re-release, and have absolutely loved it. For both, it was also a case where I really wanted to play a new game in both series’ respective “classic” styles, and since I had only played them at launch, and had largely forgotten the experience, it was like playing both for the first time again.

    I may have overlooked the setting but I think the game could benefit from having a toggle option for the L+right joystick. I would like to flip it so that I can use the camera normally and then hold L when I want to attack. Since I'm attacking far less than adjusting the camera, it would be nice to not constantly have to hold down L while traversing. Though both options seem to work better for me than the traditional Z camera centering.

      For me, button controls in any game are never affected by my left-handedness; it's motion controls and touchscreen controls where I need a left-handed mode. For the DS games that relied heavily on touchscreen controls, Nintendo provided (look at Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks for examples), but for this game, Nintendo has twice now failed to provide. The lack of a left-handed mode for the motion controls is once again going to have to be what keeps me from getting this game.

    The thing about the controls is that you don't actually need to get the sword into position first--just swipe in the direction you need to strike and Link will bring it to the starting position automatically. This is something the game doesn't communicate to and once I figured it out in the original game the motion controls worked a lot better. It feels unnatural at first, but you'll get the hang of it.

    Alex, I did miss your thoughts at the end of the review. What are those grips on your joycons? I haven't seen anything like that before.

    I got so happy yesterday. Went to walmart expecting for all copies to be sold out but no there was a full stock. Love the game and it's so underappreciated. And the button controls aren't bad at all just as I thought. 10/10 recommend

    I was from the first second on in love with it on the Wii. One of the best endboss-fights ever for a Zelda-Game. But now, it's like if it was with Wind Waker and Twilight Princess - I bought both in the HD-Version - I think I would be bored because I played the originals more than enough.

  • @Cysubtor_8vb
    @Cysubtor_8vb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your experience with the original is very similar to my own. I borrowed it (and a motion plus, which I didn't have and was the main reason it's the only 3D Zelda I didn't own) from a friend in college and, while I did like the scenery and story, I was completely taken out of the immersion by the repetitive Silent Realms mechanic. I did three of them no problem, but then hit the next and... just wasn't feeling the game anymore. Eventually gave it back to my friend and never played SS again.
    Was thinking of getting this version, but the mere thought of those realms puts me off again.

    Gaming Journalist: "Here's my review I was paid to create and it's full of inaccuracies showing I didn't bother to play the game but my thoughts are all that matters."
    Alex: "It would be disingenuous of me to give my thoughts on a game I didn't play and as a reminder the previous review was writ by another who had played the game..."

    I think the biggest thing with the button only control method for me is that you can’t control the camera without holding L and honestly I think that I would prefer holding L to use the sword rather than the camera.

    Beat the game with button control only. After that it created a muscle memory for me to press the L button every time I controlling the camera in other game..... Plus, slashing the sword with Right stick sometime can be quite satisfying.

    When I first booted it up, I ran it side by side with the wii version. Yeah... never going back. Resolution is better, most textures are better, controls are smoother, THUMBSTICK CAMERA, very easy and quick aim centering, 60fps, text speed go brrrrr, the UI be sexy af. One thing I was incredibly happy about was how responsive rolling and throwing things was. Wow. One more thing, it is soooo nice to not have that cord between the nunchuck and the wiimote when you're constantly swing your controllers in various directions.

      If you’re a JRPG/ monster collecting fan with a ton of content including a post-game after the credits roll…then monster Hunter stories 2 all the way. However if you’re a Zelda diehard then skyward sword.

  • @alwaysasn

    I'm so glad Alex liked the game. Everyone complains that the game is one long fetch quest. But I think people forget it's not the destination but the journey with this game. And you meat such charming characters at every turn in this game, and it has such amazing puzzles.
    Obviously not everyone's cuppa tea. But as I'm replaying it now I am remembering how much I love it.
    I think the art style did look better on the OG Wii Game.

    There’s a very good reason why people commented on not having your opinions and you shouldn’t be surprised. How do we hear YOUR honest opinion and YOUR passion? It honesty feels so rigid and well, pointless to hear a script being read. Thanks for the video.
