as soon as I heard “I’ll add Who Killed Captain Alex to the list” I felt like I was the time traveler seeing Gandhi in real time
I think Alex and myself's definition of "bad" are very different. I wouldn't call this game bad. It's fun and perfectly functional. I'd call it a good game that's lacking in polish and content.
Something I can compliment this game on is its dual purpose design (I highly recommend GameMaker's Toolkit's video on it) with the jump. It not only has you avoid the trail, but it also creates a path under the trail, meaning that you can later go under the trail, making the jump all the more useful, and forces the player to remember the place they had to jump, making the game less braindead. The formula this game presents could honestly see so much expansion, and I hope somebody is inspired enough to run with the idea.
Shows that even though a good gameplay loop is core to a game it isn't everything to make a game worth while.
My friends and I put in multiple sessions with this game and kept going back to it (when the switch was new). We'd go back to it after smash bros. I bought the dlc and never played it. This is a really fun party game.
I also believe that a 4 was a little harsh. This is easily a 5 or 6.
What's wrong with it? The game says "this is what I can do" and you get exactly what it advertises. I don't see anything wrong with the game.

Giving that game is 4 (poor) a pretty harsh especially considering it's a super budget title. It's well made and the idea works and is fairly fun.
Sounds to me that Alex is a bit too afraid of the audience's judgement that he keeps saying it's a bad game that he happens to have fun with. From what he's saying and the footage it seems like a pretty good game and the only flaw he keeps mentioning is that there's not many modes, which is really not a flaw if the game is priced appropriately. Im fact many of the classics like Tetris and Snake (which this game is close to) are simple gameplay loops without many different "modes". So either the game has a lot more flaws that we're not seeing (or hearing about) OR Alex needs to not worry about being judged and just proudly say he thinks it's a pretty good game😁

Maybe a game you'd enjoy, since your description reminded me of it? "You Died But a Necromancer Revived You"; it's got really cute pixel art, only 4 buttons, and is perfect for just pulling out at parties and picking at for a little bit. It'd be perfect for 15 minute rounds, but I've also played with people for hours straight
I recognized it right as soon as I heard the background music. This game we play a lot in our family, my wife (who hates video games) and little kids love it! It’s great for people who don’t have the patience to learn a game. This one is underrated at 4 in our families opinion.

Astro bears is great. It’s typically on sale for close to virtually free and it’s great for some quick casual laughs between friends between your major games.
Snake pass is also very underridit
this is legitimately one of my favorite games... its so dumb, but the amount of times me and my friends (all in our 30's) sat around playing this for HOURS haha is kinda crazy... its just so dumb good.
Played with friends a while ago was really fun and chaotic, we also played it a few times after

Silly question, but is the music in the video from the game? If so that's worth the price of admission on its own
The single player is actually a fun high score chaser with a little bit of depth. Getting more rocket fish in a row gets you progressively more points. Since the challenge increases you want to score lots of points early if you want a good run. I've had fun with it.

This game is fun but unbalanced. It can be a real blast in a Mario Party sort of way.

Me and my friend have been playing this game on and off at gatherings for years. It’s nice to see this mastapeece get the recognition it deserves
I play this every now and then with my kids. I think I bought it for a dollar, and we’ve gotten much more than a dollar’s worth of enjoyment out of it. If you find it cheap, have people to play with locally, and think it looks like a good time from what you see here, I give it a solid recommendation. Nice pick Alex!
Reminds me of Ding Dong XL. Only 99 cents on the eShop (I got it on sale for 9 cents before NOA made their price changes) and it's a blast in a group setting, or even solo chasing a new high score, for what it is
It _was_ debated for a long time, but recent genetic studies have confirmed that pandas are bears. They diverged from other bear species long, long ago, which is why they have some pretty weird characteristics for bears, they’re even sometimes described as “living fossils”.

bro i got astro bears party for $1 and its genuinely one of my favorite local multiplayer games on the system. its so fun and wacky, i love it. its not like the game is a 10/10 by any means, but its some great fun to just hop into with friends.
they made an updated version too, and for a while it was free for anybody who had the original. i dont believe its still like that, but if anybody is interested, this one is just called astro bears. imo astro bears party is better though.

I remember playing A LOT of Astro Bears with my family. I got it with Golden Points on the eShop. Good times. I deleted it from my Switch. 🙂

Our family always has a blast with this game. We bought it for pretty cheap and was one of the first Switch games I bought. My daughter likes to hop all around and make a trail everywhere.

Why would this game get a 4? I don't think it's bad at all. It's just a cheap fun little party game, it does everything it sets out to do and it does it well.
I don't know how retro you like to get, but this game is a 3D version of SNAFU on the Mattel Intellivision from 1981.
I was surprised when I found out the game and have sunk a decent amount of times with friends on this. I even got the second iteration. They gave it away for free for a while for people who bought the first.
This game was like 2 cents for the longest time and he's talking about getting it for free, lol
My sister and I have spent many a mirthful hour playing Astro bears and Astro bears party.
i bought this game around the time when gold points got introduced because i wanted an excuse to use them and i knew it was bad, but it is a fun time multiplayer

For me at least it says it's currently 85% off for the main game + dlc but I couldn't find an option to buy just the main game
The DLC gives a couple of extra characters. The characters have different stats and play differently with different strategies. Definitely worth it at 85% off.
In the US the game without DLC is currently the same price as the game with DLC. Just buy it with the DLC. If you already have the game the DLC alone is also on a deep sale.

I forgot I had this game and just had to play it while listening lol. Might try to beat my single player hi-score of 211. It's pretty fun for what it is.

this game gives me vibes of starwhal, a great simple game but little substance without friends
Love that game. Good for lots of people with little gaming experience and got it on eshop at a very good price. Better than a 4/10.

Played with three of my friends and had a great time, has replay value but you won't be playing it for hours on end.
Thays too funny. I was just thinking someone should run and get their DK bongos when Zion did exactly that. I didn't even question whether at least one of you guys have one.
Legit one of my favourite switch party games. This is a must play for my friend group and I. For the literal cents I paid for this, its leagues worth it

I have the DLC, it's cheap and worth it. 2 new bears with new stats and abilities much more unique to the main roster, would recommend.

Hmm....it just seems this game was under rrated xD Like sure, its no Mario Party or anything. But for what the game is described, you get what you expect. It should at least be a 5 (average and what is expected), but I think a 6 would be fair (if you`re scoring the game itself, within its cheap budget and fun factor, and not comparing it to games like Mario Party). It would be fun to play it every now and then, especially with friends, in a cheap but quality fun sort of way.
