      If you pay attention, the swirls are _everywhere,_ not just in faron woods and though not all are in the exact same style, the spiral exists in every region. A cool connection between lanayru and skyloft was the best wooden shield design is also in the lanayru mining facility, where you have to use the gust bellows on the propellers to open the doors. Even on the path to the first gate of ? you see the same bird statues found on skyloft.
      And did you ever notice the sheikah don't have white hair in skyward sword?

  • @MLennholm
    @MLennholm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

    The boss of the Fire Sanctuary should've been a corrupted Eldin (the fire dragon). That dragon is way too underutilized in the game as it is. I enjoy the second Ghirahim battle but they could've placed it elsewhere in the game. For instance, during the confrontation at the Temple of Time, which would also serve to make that feel like the actual boss of Lanayru Mining Facility instead of Moldarach.

    • @Agent-Ig
      @Agent-Ig 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you placed the second Ghirahim fight at the Temple of Time though, you would have a new issue that the first and third bosses are Ghirahim.

    • @toby718
      @toby718 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      that would make sense. i like moldarach but it felt more like a mini-boss. lmf didn’t have a mini boss to begin with, and when moldarach returned AS a mini boss at the shipyard it took away the effect of it being a tough and unique boss

  • @Genasidal
    @Genasidal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +77

    The Fire Sanctuary imo had really big potential to make an interesting boss fight. I actually DON'T think the idea of fighting Girahim here was bad, but imagine, if you first fight Girahim, then he pulls a fast one on you out of anger and basically summons the big lava creature creating the hands to flood you out, chasing you into an entirely new portion of the dungeon and adding a new FINAL half AFTER the boss key was used, whereby you must make your way upwards towards maybe a tower where the flame was held, that the boss key originally led to, only this time, with lava flooding the area, the dungeon is essentially transformed, and so you have to put everything you've learnt about the water plants mechanic to use in the most difficult timing challenges with this mechanic. It'd be a short section ending in the fight vs this monster, but would imo have made the dungeon iconic for being an excellent boss fakeout that leads to a cool dungeon transformation and second boss fight (with a save in between of course!) I really enjoy the Girahim fights however, which is why I didn't mind at all - I love the challenge and his music is killer!

    • @daandevos122
      @daandevos122 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That save certainly would be necessary, I remember on my first playthrough, I had a lot of problems with Ghirahim alone, and I had to stock up on potions and fairies to be able to deal with him. Even than, it was quite the challenge.

  • @ThatGuy-TheEngineer
    @ThatGuy-TheEngineer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I think the Sand Ship boss (in a less cartoony form) should have stolen the Timeshift Stone from the ship, and held it in its mass of tentacles. Link would need to wound enough tentacles to get a clear shot at the timeshift stone. The boss's grip has weakened the stone's integrity, and a few well placed shots would shatter the stone into pieces. The individual pieces don't have as great a range, causing only parts of the boss to be in the past, and effectively severing its head this way.
    Then as Link thinks he's succeeded, the corpse in the present (desert) rises up. It could have been animated by ghirahim, but I think it would be cooler as an ancient parasite that's been growing inside the corpse. The second phase boss begins burrowing into the sand. It shows it can pop out anywhere, even through the ship's hull, causing no ground to be safe. Link can then activate the scattered timeshift stone pieces to create "safe spots" of floating debris in the ocean (the past). While standing on these, the boss can't rise up underneath him, and has to settle for surfacing to throw things at Link. When the boss surfaces, Link can shoot the parasite's exposed parts. The boss falls to the ground, momentarily weakened, and Link runs in to attack. Rinse and repeat.

    I mostly agree, except that I would place the Sky Keep closer to the bottom of the list. It's a great dungeon and I still like it very much, but I hate the pushing puzzles and every single time I play through the game I have to use a guide for them. I'm just super bad at those puzzles and the frustration I get out of them just drags down my mood and motivation to play. Other than that I love the puzzles in the individual rooms and overall feel of the dungeon. You really get the sense that this is the final challenge Hylia laid out for you and you can feel that you are capable of overcoming it and that you really can reach your goal.

    7: Skyview Temple, it suffers from being the first dungeon, but it does try to be creative and mix its theme.
    6: Lanayru Mining Facility, it goes on to long for me to really stay focused and theres a few rooms that feel exactly the same or couldve been excluded.
    5: Ancient Cistern, its very linear in design but because of how big the rooms are people think its much more open then it actually is but it is a cool dungeon.
    4: Earth Temple, i just love the idea of the ball, and the way you get the item is quite unique.
    3: Fire Sanctuary, not many dungeons have you go inside and outside in the same way this one does and the water plants are a very cool idea.
    2: Sand Ship, its the Sand Ship and im kinda ignoring the bosses for this list i dont think the boss should hinder the whole experience.
    1: Sky Keep, i love the sliding puzzle idea and the combination of all the dungeon themes makes it so cool for me its like Ganons Castle in OoT.

    My only complaint about the Sky Keep is the aesthetic and the ease with which you pick up the Triforce pieces. Like you, I wish the place had unique enemies, such as having the guardians from the silent realms be actual foes this time that you can battle. I also disliked how the rooms copying the temples just used the same assets and felt like they were just leftover rooms from those dungeons instead of a sacred place. The aesthetic and music in the first room is really cool and fitting and I wanted that for the whole dungeon to a degree. Even if the rooms still had some other elements like plants or lava, they could still have the white stone and music that sounded unique while referencing the old locations.
    I also would have preferred boss fights for those pieces. They're the Triforce pieces. Even if the bosses were more like mini bosses, why not? They already had multiple mini bosses in there anyway.

I just find it weird that how did the Royal Family got in to a fang of Naydra. Even though Link can just shoot an arrow at the dragon but did the spirit appeared before Calamity Ganon? I know I’m in the minority, but man, I loved how BOTW handled dungeons. (Though I agree there was definitely an issue with sameness, which made sense for the in game story, but not so much for game play.)
    No matter how much I loved playing through a Zelda dungeon, dungeons are the number one reason I don’t replay my Zelda games as often as I would otherwise. Whereas I’ve replayed BOTW seven or eight times because it lacks the tedium that at least one or two dungeons inevitably bring to a game.
    BOTW was a refreshing change of pace, and even if they bring dungeons back, I hope they keep the non-linear format. So I can maybe choose to skip a particular dungeon after the first play through if I find it supremely tedious….

  • @cocostar319

    My personal list
    Earth temple: by no means a bad dungeon but I feel that the process to get in is super tedious and the temple itself is very short. The puzzles are cool but I feel that they aren't the best.
    Sky keep: Super confusing. The main mechanic is a really cool idea but it just makes everything harder. I like the idea of having the themes of all the previous dungeons but I would like it more if it had its own theme. I'm also not a fan of there being no dungeon boss and just reusing an old mini boss.
    Fire sanctuary: I like it. It's a cool dungeon and the main mechanic is cool. This may sound a bit dumb and biased but I mostly put it here because I generally don't like fire dungeons. It's still a really cool temple.
    Ancient cistern: tbh I'm really just sick of everyone saying that this is their favorite.
    I still love the dungeon and the main theme of the temple is awesome. I like the two sections a lot but unfortunately this place sufferers from being everyone's favorite and me eventually getting sick of it. (Kinda stupid reasoning I know)
    Sandship: I absolutely love the concept and the way you go through it is really nice. I like the noniniarity of it and both bosses are pretty good in my opinion. It really feels like what it's supposed to be and I love that. I also really like the Lanaru dungeons (as you'll see later)
    Skyview temple: I don't care what anyone says this dungeon is amazing and you cannot change my mind. The ascetics are great. The puzzles are cool and unique. The dungeon item is one of the best in the series. The enimies are great and fit the faron reagion really well. The only real downside is the boss. Don't get me wrong I love girihim but I feel he's a bit difficult for a starter boss.
    Lanayru mining facility: even if the timeshift stones are a tiny bit overused doesn't mean this dungeon is bad by any means. The concept is in my opinion way better used her than in the rest of the reagion. I love the enimies here a ton, I feel that the ancient technology theme is done really well here. The puzzles are pretty cool as well. It is a bit long and the boss isn't great but I feel the the other amazing things about this dungeon outdo the bad things by a ton.

    Skyward Sword is my favorite game and I know there's wrong stuff in it (like the Sandship boss... Gosh.... I'll share you my pitch if you read my comment and like it enough to know what it is 😛 because it'll be a long one 😅) but I usually don't agree with what people points out. But I really love your input though. And Ghirahim fights does take a lot of space, a quick fix (without removing a Ghirahim fight) would have been Ghirahim to be a "second" boss fight to the Mining factory. When Link dashes to stop him, instead of the cutscene continuing when Link separate Impa and Ghirahim, a "boss fight" follows and this time its not a matter of inflicting him a certain amount of damage, but simply resisting long enough, the Demon Lord growing quickly impatient and empowering his attack really fast because he sees Zelda escaping LITERALLY from his grasp.
    Another point, one more (or two) dungeon should have been on this lost. Dungeon that saddly are not in the game.
    1) I always felt like it was a bit dull how we acquired the Emerald Tablet. If at least Zelda's father would have been the one to hand it to Link telling him this was an artefacts related to the Legend that would be given to the next generation until the Hero would reveal itself, would have been a lot more fun than Fi having it. Because, if Fi can possess it, why wouldn't Hylia also give her the other so that Link can save Zelda from the start (of course he would not accomplish its trial, but anyway) wherever she'd be taken down. BUT it could also be a dungeon reward like the other two, but the dungeon being up in the Sky on an island. No one could have entered it before because it would be locked and only the Goddess Sword could open it with a Skyward Strike. Dungeon could require Loftwing from time to time to get in and out different entrance (that would be locked with normal key explaining why you can access them from the start even if you can see the door. Anyway, I'm sure there would have been A LOT of potential for tutorials dungeon that way.
    The other one would be inspired because of BotW. What if there always been three shrine of the goddesses? The Skyview Temple, the Earth Temple, why not the Abyssal Stronghold? Not meant to be a place inhabited by monster, but a Temple with the sole purpose of making it hard for monster to pierce through the earth. Could be underground, bellow the actual goddess shrine of Wisdom. That way the three locations (Sky, Surface and Underground) would actually be connected by the different Shrine.
    Anyway, that's my idea for missing dungeon that would have been great 😛

    Earth Temple should have focused on the Earth aspect. It could have been like Dodongo's Cavern rather than being Fire Sancturay Lite. Second Ghirahim fight should have happened in the Temple of Time, the boss of the Fire Sanctuary should have been the monster that was messing up the water. Third Ghirahim fight should have been the boss of the Sky Keep, similar to how you fight Agahnim at the end of the final dungeon in A Link to the Past.

    The ancient cistern is the only dungeon I truly enjoyed and wouldn't hesitate to do again. I didn't even want it to be finished because it was so fun! And the boss... Well, best boss of the game.

    Skyview Temple suffered from a combination of Early Game Hell and just general arc fatigue for me. I had so few hearts, so few options for recovering them, and was still adjusting to the game mechanics. Add in the fact of how unforgiving Skyward Sword was with aggressive sword use and you get a lot of early game frustration.
    ...Video idea: Rank the first dungeons of Zelda games.

    My list
    7. SkyView - It's ok, but not memorable and the revisit hurts it alot
    6. Earth Temple (?) - I just don't like the ball rolling, but the music and asthetic are great
    5. Fire Sanctuary - It's good, but feels really disconnected at parts and doesn't have anything super memorable besides jumping into the statue
    4. Mining Facility - Great use of timeshift, but it starts to drag part of the way through
    3. Sky Keep - Fantastic concept, could be executed better
    1. Ancient Cistern - mmm good dungeon. Love the usage of whip, and the brief hint of darkness halfway through is so good. Love this one
    2. Sandship - what do you want me to say? It's good, you know it's good, it's the highlight of the game. 2nd best 3D dungeon, beaten only by Tower because duh it's stone tower... shit forgot about tentalus. Swap 1 and 2

    This list was pretty similar to mine. The only difference was that I have the Lanayru dungeons at the very top. I personally don’t include bosses when I think about how much I like a dungeon, I just save those for another list entirely. Boss foreshadowing effects both lists. Anyone else do that?

    Mine
    7. Sky keep (imagine a divine beast but there’s one and it’s traditional that’s what sky keep is)
    6. Skyview temple (I’m not a fan of first dungeons because the fact they mostly don’t do good stuff)
    5. Earth temple (its not great that’s it)
    4. Lanayru mining facility (I like the use of timeshift stones I mean I could make a theory on the dungeon and the region but the boss is Meh)
    3. Ancient cistern ( I thought it was good but that later part with the bottom just wasn’t as good as the part before)
    2. Fire sanctuary (It’s just earth temple but it’s good)
    1. Sand ship (this is one of the greatest dungeons but FRICK THE BACKTRACKING and the boss)
