Man, I love everyone telling me "I can't believe you support them selling this back to people at full price." I don't. I would implore everyone to watch the video to its conclusion before commenting (I know you won't do it, but hey: I tried) Actually, to add onto this, if you don't buy your games digitally I would actually advise people to buy SSHD used, because then Nintendo won't get your active support for pricing their games too high.
I was unable to get into Skyward Sword previously. I'm glad to see the QoL features are significant enough, and the gameplay experience smooth enough, for you to definitively recommend this over an emulator. The $60 price tag is pretty steep, though. At $20 I'd almost certainly have picked it up. $60, though? And as you mentioned, one of the most major QoL features is locked behind an Amiibo...
im pretty sure you can emulate the skyward sword HD switch port on the switch emulator, or at least will be able to very soon, so i dont think people really need to buy this game, if they already played the wii version. Also is skipping cutscenes and dialogue really that great? you're essentially skipping the game, which ideally, is what we are trying to experience. If we are skipping it, it maybe wasnt that enjoyable to begin with.
Guys I want you to note when he’s skipping through the text boxes he’s not doing it at full speed. If your heart so desires you can mash the B button like there’s no tomorrow and it skips through extremely fast. It’s awesome for the second play through on hero mode
@@DaSheepKiller so hero mode is like new game+ in batman: arkham knight? (new game+ is played on the hardest difficulty: knightmare) which is unlocked after beating the game
@@thelegendofthem6120 check the video "how to fix your joycon drift permanently" by VK's channel. You'll just need to open it and place a piece of paper under the control stick. It worked perfectly for me.
I'm shocked that fast-fowardable dialogue wasn't in the base game. Like, Twilight Princess had it in the Wii version, so it makes 0 sense to not have it. Glad they fixed it in the HD version.
The reason games usually do this is to reduce lag since sometimes the engine can't handle that many characters on screen instantly, but in the case of skyward sword it only caused lag in like one place...so its still weird that they didn't have it
There was a fast forward in the original its just you had to wait 2 or 3 seconds before ot activates. I think in the remake Nintendo promotes the removal of those seconds
I always question people who complain about returning to the same areas multiple times. Each time your return you’re either exploring a new part of the area (sand ocean/fire sanctuary) or the area itself has radically changed to the point where it doesn’t even play the same (note collecting in the flooded forest or stealthing through the volcano).
Without the weird and IMO painful motion controls I haven't had a single problem with this game 1 beat the game 100% and am currently trying the same on hero mode (just got hylian shield) This game went from meh, to a game I love
Yeah I never got that. It’s not like Ocarina of time didn’t do the same exact thing. Got to the tree temple get the mcguffin. Go to the volcano get the mcguffin. Go to the water temple get the mcguffin. Get the sword, repeat. Then do two temples in areas you haven’t seen and kill the boss.
Silent realms are arguably lazier than tears of light in TP, they didn't act as a barrier to an unseen location but rather a way to fart around for 10 extra minutes pretending it's engaging gameplay. I didn't fail a single one of the silent realms, they're an actual cakewalk and serve little to no purpose. Additionally, having to fight the imprisoned 3 times was also excessive. Coupling recycled areas with recycled bosses was why the reception for PH and ST were so bad.
Honestly though. I always hesitated to replay this game even though I remember loving it. Everything that makes it great is so much more apparent now. As someone who has defended Skyward Sword's motion controls for nearly a decade, the game feels so much better without them.
Ive just gotten past the second dungeon. Motion controls ticked me off in teh first few hours but i feel like i've pretty much got them down. Still, I have a problem with my swings registering correctly and Lizalfos' kicking my ass since my swings are all over the place. So I'm not raving about the motion controls but they are passable for the most part. This is my first time playing too. We'll see how this ranks amongst my other zelda experiences at the end...
The motion controls are great until you have to start using the stab motion. That just never seems to read correctly for me, pressing the joysticks for stabs and shield parries feels so much more consistent (to me at least) Options are always great though, I’d never advocate for the removal of motion controls I just like that people can choose the control scheme they prefer
@Craig Adams Those are also my main complaints, but I don't think any of that hampers the experience as much as others would say. My opinion obviously, but I think the game has a good habit of throwing new challenges at you, even if you are backtracking through the same areas.
I really find it funny how many people say this game is under rated when from my perspective i always heard that it was practically everyone's favorite zelda game, including people who don't play video games.
Ikr motion controls dropped this game From an 8.5 out of 10 to a 5 out of 10 for me back in the day. This time playing through made me realise how great the game actually is
Yeah it's always been weird to me people complain about those so often. As someone who criticized the original release of this game pretty harshly, those were easily the best parts of the game aside from some of the bosses.
@@Poefred Agreed. I'm thinking that those people just thought the silent realms were too hard or unfair. In my experience, they were exciting because I always knew there was an awesome item or something for me when I completed it. Also, after playing through them repeatedly, you learn how to be quite comfortable with them and play it strategically. Knowing the landscape really well, using the beacon fruits strategically, and saving easy to grab tears for later are key to completing the silent realms most successfully and quickly. And replaying the game will help you learn the landscape really well.
did they make the silent realms easier in the switch port? i never played the original but i never failed any of the silent realms sections, i do agree that they are some of the most tense, exciting parts of the game though
Speedrunner here! Just to let everyone know how substantial instant text is, the previous world record for any% (no BiT because without a reset button that glitch is impossible and it saves like 4.5 hours) was 5 hours and 36 minutes. The current record in HD is 4 hours and 52 minutes. Also, the amiibo saves a little less than 4 minutes in the any% run for those who are curious. It’s annoying. Also another note: the sword tutorial was skippable in the original…don’t know why Nintendo claimed it was a new thing and wanted to inform you about that. They actually did this with a bunch of stuff, like claiming Fi triggers were reduced but all the footage showed that attempted to show the Fi text was gone were in places where there was no Fi text to begin with. As well as claiming the rupee text wouldn’t show up multiple times but the first time you get the text is literally the last time you see it even in the base game. Just kind of weird.
They did make Fi more optional they just didn’t show any actual examples of it in the trailers where they mention it. Very odd. But at least they did make the changes
@@notsocooldude7720 Well the point is they showed things as changed which were already in the original game. "Item pickups don't repeat every time you leave the game" *Shows a stamina fruit.* Things like that
Might sound wierd but I actually prefer the motion controls so Im glad they were still left in as a option, especially since I had trouble with button controls that were put in.
What sells the motion controll for me is, that you can use the right stick to turn the camera while you ALWAYS need to press ZL in combination for turning it when you use button controll. This was so annoying for me that I switched to motion controll completely.
It's just a nice, decent control scheme in the Switch version. And both control schemes are varied enough that I don't have issues with muscle memory. I tend to use Motion when playing in TV mode and button controls when playing in Handheld. I'd also just like to state that using the right Joystick to swing the sword is fun as shit.
The dungeons really show how weak BOTW's dungeons were. Don't get me wrong, they did open world right but Skyward Sword's dungeons are simple divine. Proper 2 hour challenges in their own right. Better than the divine beasts which could be done in 20 mins.
Honestly I prefer BOTW dungeons, they are fast paced and not tedious like some dungeons in other Zelda games, they are way too easy however. But I like the idea of the dungeons being something else in the outside (Divine beasts).
Honestly, the time is only one gripe to be had with the BOTW dungeons. Their biggest setback in my opinion is the homogenous collection of settings. Setting, time, and as John C. said, difficulty is what makes them fall flat (with one (dlc two?) obvious exception, but even then that's mostly optional (in spirit of the game)). The overworld is beyond any other Zelda though, and it's well over enough needed to balance out the lackluster dungeon. But I did miss dungeons when playing the game.
I've already played 22 hours got the master sword, I'm going to go into the thunderhead to go meet the giant whale thing and I love it. I miss this game so much
I was very pleasantly surprised with Skyward Sword HD. "Internet Wisdom (tm)" has said that the original is horrible for years. Turns out it's actually fantastic when obvious oversights are corrected. It's a very focused game - almost like a Super Zelda Galaxy, which now that the open BotW exists is totally fine. Motion controls are literally hit or miss, but the coolness factor cancels out the frustration for me. Also there's more DNA shared between SS and BotW than I'd expected in game feel, which is all-important to me.
I often wonder if some games will be more accepted once gamers get something closer to what they always wanted afterwards. Now that DOOM's had its' glorious return to form, I'm suddenly seeing people more accepting of DOOM 3.
@@Mayeur000Donz Doom 3 is a weird case since the version people are going back to is very a significantly different experience. Since Doom 3 is built around it's lighting system. And how BFG changes that changes the atmosphere and flow of the game. They can go into BFG edition as a regular shooter, which they couldn't in the original version.
@@Mayeur000Donz Doom Eternal was a step down imo. Literally took everything that people didn't want in doom from 2016 and cranked it to 11. Sure normies loved it but that's not saying much.
@@Brandon-bc9vt I'm a lefty too and I even use a mouse in right hand. Problem is that Skyward Sword uses 1-1 sword controls and that just doesn't feel right to me. Light shakes would be fine but anything requiring ample dexterity is a no-go for my right hand.
In defense of motion controls, I find it really immersive. It makes me feel like I AM Link going on the adventure. Swordplay also requires practice to understand how the joycons react to movement which makes me excited to keep on trying and get better
Fr i didnt know some people wanted the silent realms to be removed. Honestly that was a shocker! They're fucking fantastic, always keeping you on edge and begging for the timer to not run out and to be not murdered mercilessly by the guardians XD
I also enjoyed them, fun challenge, relaxing music, and a beautiful atmosphere. The guardians add to it, my main complaint about twilight princesses twilight areas that used the same concept was it was too easy with no way to fail except dying which even then is easy to avoid but overall I loved the silent realms too
When I first played skyward sword My wiimote would shut off at random times and I would have to redo entire sections because my Wii turned off and the there was no save except for the statues and those weren’t everywhere so I will say I really love the auto save feature in the Hd version
The new button only controls definitely takes a decent amount of time to get used to but once you master it, it feels great and you find yourself breezing through combat and tearing down enemies. Once I got to the second dungeon, the controls felt great and smooth.
I actually think the loft wing controls really well the motion controls- I'd simply let the controller lay flat on my hand and make small tilts to move and it felt very responsive
The only problems I still have with this remaster is just the price point and the locking of hero mode for a 10 year old game assuming no one wants to play hard mode right away. Nintendo has a really terrible treatment of difficulty modes with a supposedly for all ages demographic and aging fan base.
@@Blueisland-e9m 30 honestly. It’s a old game that performs worse than emulators and I doubt Nintendo would go lower than 40 but there is absolutely no reason it should be 60
@@Blueisland-e9m I personally think $60 is too much when you consider other old games that were brought to Switch. Pikmin 3 Deluxe added brand new story content and co-op mode. Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition has improved performance and all of the paid DLC content packed in. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had all the paid DLC, a more fleshed out Battle Mode, faster loading, and better box art (don't @ me). Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition had a complete art overhaul, remastered music, added epilogue story content, and Expert Mode. Compare any of these to Skyward Sword HD, which has better performance, a more streamlined experience, and...that's it. No added story content, no extra modes, no new music, nothing about it in general is new. It's the same exact game, just a bit more palatable. It doesn't match up to the standard.
Here's a minor gripe I have that I haven't seen anyone else talk about. In the first 5 Zelda games as well as the 3DS & Wii U remasters, there were 2 options for targeting. Either press the button and it'll keep targeting the enemy until you press it again, or hold the button to target the enemy, and it stops targeting when you let go of the button. But Breath of the Wild took away the first option so now you can only hold to target, and that change is also in Skyward Sword HD so it's technically a removed feature in the HD version. It's not a huge deal, but it still bothers me. I actually used the press to target feature in older games, but in BOTW & SSHD I can't do that anymore, and I probably won't be able to in BOTW2 either.
First things first, thanks for making my lunch more enjoyable. Perfect length too for it. Secondly, I agree with basically everything ya said here. I seriously see no reason to play the original anymore. This is a game I hold close as it really made me get into Zelda Lore. But I genuinely believe Nintendo listened and fixed everything that was necessary. Also if people have a problem with the price, they can certainly always pick it up second hand. The same could be said for the amiibo honestly, yanno, WAY later when hopefully people care less about buying it for crazy prices. Wanted to get one but I didn't wanna risk not being able to look myself in the eyes anymore. Would've loved that feature built in but while playing the game, but thankfully the amiibo feature is hardly on my mind while playing.
I think it’s also important to say that it’s ok to not buy the game AND complain as that lets Nintendo know that this kind of behavior is unacceptable, and warns customers. Mass complaining works as EA found out with Battlefront 2 where they actually changed course and everyone got a better game and service, and EA was, for a while, hesitant about adding in more predatory micro transactions in other games. All thanks to complaints from social media; people who bought the game and many who didn’t. Thankfully, only a few defended EA’s crappy behavior. Usually with tiresome “if you don’t like like it, then don’t buy it” phrase which usually means the person has no argument to begin with. The criticisms about full price for a 10 year old remaster with minimal effort, compared to the standard market price of AAA remasters which have a lot more included, are entirely valid and deserved. And then there is the amiibo of course - pure greed as he video rightly says. As a paying customer who is enjoying the game, I am also entitled to complain about my purchase. I have no problem with others who don’t mind paying and defending Nintendo(their opinions are just as important as mine), although this does mean that Nintendo is more likely to raise prices in future if lots of people accept this and don’t complain.
I also agree there is no reason to play the original version of Skyword Sword. Although to me personally, that was already the case prior to the release of the HD version.
I loved the silent realm sections. There was so much tension and they were genuinely challenging. The music and visuals when you were discovered were just so fitting and made the experience heart pounding. They tested your knowledge of an area and if you screwed up you could be close to screwed in some spots. They could be challenging and you might actually fail, but they were never frustrating, if you failed it felt fair to me at least.
I’ve always had a soft spot for skyward sword. Everyone’s complaints for ss and tp about being linear, or heavy-handed are true, but they did feel inspired. Especially ss with the motion controls. SSHD’s improvements are great, and are a sure welcome to anyone who might not like motion controls. However, as you went into on the last section, it’s the business practice and amiibo silliness that completely blemish the inspiration to me. I get so much joy from playing, reading, watching a work that is certainly birthed from passion. SSHD is not one of those things. Great game, terrible business :( Love your videos. I appreciate that you lay out more than one side to a discussion or contrary opinions as well. Thanks.
Yes... you can actually get the complete set of Zelda Ambeeos for $15 (sorry😆) Make sure to get the extra small set, too. Theres the ones that are regular card size, but there's also a set that is only about a quarter that size. Way more convenient.
I got an amiibo card so I can have the QoL feature. It was only around $8 including shipping. I'd still be willing to buy the amiibo at retail price but it's nowhere to be found.
I see King has evolved into the “pissed at business practices” stage of Nintendo fandom we all reach before just giving up cause we can’t help ourselves and my lack of buying Skyward sword and wario ware isn’t gonna get me a new starfy game anyway
It’s true. And everyone should realize that whatever you buy nowadays is a very similar compromise when it comes to supporting unsavory practices. Not saying that lets Nintendo off the hook. But you have to pick your battles and everyone has to make that choice themselves
@@LazyStarrfish true. Like as an example you ever buy a banana or anything with it in the recipe in the US and you’ve rewarded the US government for slaughtering children to stop a union from forming so that workers were not paid slave labor. Banana could be good for your diet and it is genuinely funding people who have good legit jobs of course but it doesn’t remove that factor in general. Just like while Nintendo may deny it everyone of us is endorsing child labor with our phones and switches because of how cheap it is
By give up do you mean give in and buy them at full price? If so, I don't think you need to resort to that. You can use your well placed cynicism to be more savvy. I got my copy for ~£15 by buying it for £35 with preorder extras which I sold for £20 on eBay.
@@benmjt if you count selling it that makes it even easier. You just played the game for 5 dollars in a glorified rental system
"Spoilers for an almost 10 year old game by the way" -- b-but I came here to see what was improved because I never beat it originally because I wasn't having a good time. :(
It also happened to me in the past. And guess what. Now I'm actually enjoying it. Now I see that the motion controls for this game were in fact a drawback to enjoy the experience for more time. These can be tiresome and even frustrating sometimes, but having the chance of turning them down is something more than welcome. You can play more time and now resume straight from where you were thanks to portability. Visually this edition is not having any improvement whatsoever, but HD plays an important role at making the art look at least "bearable" now. I mean, it's still cheesy but it's HD... And the other main drawback is the level design. If you're not a completionist and skip it right to the juicy parts (dungeons and bosses) you're definitely going to enjoy this. So yeah, it feels better. It's still not among the best games in the franchise, but if you can leave that out of your mind then I can recommend it to you. Just wait for a discount.
@@JazGalaxy I agree! Expecting everyone to keep up with all media just because you happened to watch it is ridiculous. If something is publicly spoiled like a meme, that's one thing, but it just felt completely unnecessary here.
Remove the silent realms? I don't know about you, but I love the silent realms! I think they're an awesome challenge that rewards you for getting familiar with the game areas.
Watching this makes me realize that Nintendo once again is showcasing an amazing game (thanking the game designers for that), coated with greed and other anti-consumer practices (blaming the higher-ups for that). I really wanna play this game, but refuse to reward them for these scummy practices. I’m hoping they’ll have a wake-up call one day, but for now I’ll abstain from buying. And I’m not judging anyone who did !! I hope you have a great time with the game. It honestly looks SO FUN!! But I hope we all can countinue to aknowledge nintendo’s issues. So we can expect more from them than overpriced legacy-games and bare minimum re-releases (and with that I mean, why couldn’t this have been in a colection?)
I wanted to buy the game as well; the reason I didn't buy it was the same reason I didn't buy the Wii version as well: no left-handed mode for the motion controls.
Yeah @Danish Boy you should definitely buy the game used. That gives zero money to Nintendo. And I wouldn’t call it a “bare minimum” rerelease considering the meaningful changes outlined in this video. But it’s absolutely overpriced.
@@matthewmuir8884 I actually never thought about that. So like are you just unable to play skyward sword at all? Can’t swap hands? Don’t even want to use buttons?
I loved Skyward Sword on the Wii, but the HD version is so good, I can never go back to the Wii version. See Nintendo, THIS is how you do a port of an old game. Not all stars, this.
Yea, an unfortunate consequence of the switch’s lack of a sensor bar. I went back to play the Wii version just to compare, and I played for about an hour without ever having to recalibrate. On the switch version it feels like I have to hit Y to recalibrate the sword every minute or two
Just finished this game and, having never beat the original, it was a masterpiece. Sure, some of the revists were superfluous and that escort mission sucked, but everything else? Amazing. BotW was great, but this swansong to the Wii era and to classic 3D Zelda games is on another level. It felt like such an innocent and pure representation of everything I love about Nintendo. Amazing game.
It was after the Girahim fight that I decided to go back to motion controls. I just felt really handicapped trying to use the stick for the sword. Also it got really annoying after a while having to hold in L to move the camera.
11:46 THIS! People complain about the linear areas and lack of exploration, but I think they’re looking at the areas wrong. They are less areas to explore and more mini dungeons that prep you for the real dungeon. They introduce you to mechanics as you solve minor puzzles to progress forward. You even get an item in each one. If you prefer the open exploration, that’s perfectly fair, but I do think it’s a bit unfair to criticize this game for not being what you expect it to be.
Even if i was a big fan of Nintendo, i agree with you, 60 dollars/bucks, even Euro it's priced at 60, it's way too much expensive for what it is, i remember getting the original games brand new, yet were cheaper in terms of price, not in terms of quality. I am a nostalgic by times, but even i, think they could have lowered the price of their ports, i do hate when they goes on a crusade against any emulators, TH-cam channels that share the soundtracks from their games, i also wish they could fix the joycon drift issues, from what i heard, they have lawsuits because of their refusal to fix the issue properly. I remember when the remake of Bowser's inside story was blocked behind a paywall, and you had to wait for buying the game. The retro-games are also locked behind the Nintendo Online and this is an obligation to have it in order to play some games. The switch made me realize how i actually loved the previous consoles, the DS, 3DS, the Wii too who had an awesome library of games and it wasn't an obligation to have any pawall to buy them. I am mainly on mobile to play games and discovered more games i have never heard of, like Sky Children Of Light which is made by the same people who made Journey, Flower and Flow, other games i could play without having an internet connection. If Nintendo could fix their strategies, i would be interested in buying their products again. But as they don't want to listen to their customers, then i don't see the point of supporting them again. Edit: Mario Run is also stuck behind a paywall, you need to pay to unlock new levels, Animal Crossing Pocket camp requires you to use your money to build things faster. Another thing is, they discontinued the 3DS family, the Wii U and they are still updated.. People say, "oh but the online isn't that expensive", it doesn't look expensive, but they take more money than the amount they have shown, that happened to me, personally and i barely even used the online.
@@userllllllI YOU will buy it for nostalgia. Some people have the self respect not to shove money at Nintendo for slightly improved ports of over decade old games.

i will die on this hill but this game was honestly at the end of bad marketing if they announced all the QoL changes at that direct i personally think more people would’ve given a chance rather than just going “lol port for 60 bucks”
Yeah it was really bizarre that they didn't show all the changes off at E3, just to make a video not even a month later showing off the changes. It makes you wonder what was the point of showing it at E3 at all.
I still would not have given it a chance, simply because they did not do anything about the barrier to entry that was the reason I didn't get the Wii version: the lack of a left-handed mode for the motion controls. I want to be able to swing the master sword with my dominant hand so that it would actually be precise and fun to do so, rather than awkward and just plain not fun.
@@Robert_D_Mercer I'm aware. But the lack of a left-handed mode is still jarring because a) Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks both had left-handed modes for the touchscreen controls b) this is a series where, up until Skyward Sword, the protagonist was a lefty.
I dunno why they wouldn't just assume they'd trim down on the nuisances. They changed things in basically every other remaster, why wouldn't they attempt to improve the most infamous companion in the franchise?
my only gripe with button controls is the “hold L to look around”. my brain and hands has been using the right stick exclusively for looking, but everytime I try and look the sword comes out. I would just like the option to change these around, so to enable the sword I have to push L. In motion control mode this isn’t a problem, and I honestly prefer it.
THIS. I was wondering the exact same thing. Some people say it makes sense cause "how would you move the sword?" Nooooo it feels so weird to move the camera just when holding L. I don't get why there is no such option. Been using motion controls because of this.
KingK i doubt you’d see this comment but i want to emphasize how much i love your videos. Your analysis, takes and such are always so beautifully written and put together. Your persona golden video really filled my heart especially since i JUST beat0 that game about 1 month ago. Skyward Sword HD is a great remaster! So many nice quality of life changes and the graphical upscale and performance boost is fantastic! Why is it not $30!
$60 is indeed asking for too much. But for me, the real deal-breaker is the exact same thing that made the Wii version a deal-breaker for me: the lack of a left-handed mode for the motion controls. I might've actually gotten the game if it at least had that, despite the $60 price tag, as at least I would've been actually able to play the game.
I played and beat this on the Wii, and while I enjoyed it overall (no thanks to Fi. Seriously how stupid do the devs think we are?) I refuse to get the Switch version until it's reduced in price. I refuse to pay full price for a ten year old game I've already beaten.
@@lkjkhfggd I'd buy them if they were reasonably priced. As it stands, I'd LOVE if they re-released older legacy games so not only younger generations can play them, but so older fans have a legal way to play their old favorites. It's like Nintendo WANTS people to pirate/emulate older titles because they refuse to port them.
I thought this would be a Super Mario 3D All Stars type port where they just dump a ROM on to a cartridge and upscale it, but fortunately I was wrong. This is the definitive version of Skyward Sword.
Unfortunately, there is one thing it has in common with the 3D All-Stars version of Mario Galaxy: there's no left-handed mode for the motion controls. Does Nintendo still live in the age where left-handed people were forced to use their right hands, or are they just allergic to the idea of accessibility options?
So to reiterate stuff that people are probably tired off but which discourse around the game recently reminded me of... me and my sister were talking about our experiences with it (me playing it, her watching me play), and reminded me of what I truly believe is it's greatest flaw... it's lack of charismatic characters. Here's the thing, we all love Groose. If one cares about character one is almost GUARANTEED to come to care for and cheer on Groose, he is just that good. Ghirahim is a striking villain who didn't let as many down as Zant because we knew he was a servant from the get-go, so we just enjoyed what he showed us. I also see a lot of love for this Zelda, and I think she's fine even if she's sidelined for a LONG portion of the game's run as seems to be the eternal fate of all Zelda, being dragged around by Sheik and pursued by Zelda and thoguh she does A Thing at one point she's not really THAT much of a mover and shaker in the plot. But because Zelda and Groose leave such strong impressions one kinda forgets that aside from them VERY few characters in the game are... ANYTHING, really. In my opinion, this is MOST prominent in the races encountered in Hyrule. My sister is a MAJOR Gerudo fan, and when she heard this game was gonna go to the very roots of Hyrule's history and featured Hylians separated from everyone AND previews showed a desert area she was dead CERTAIN they were gonna feature the Gerudo. Maybe adress the different perspectives and circumstances between Gerudo and Hylians and possibly foreshadow Ganondorf? Suffice to say she was GRIEVOUSLY disappointed. Gerudo aren't even there. The Gorons were just a brief cameo, mostly replaced by the Mogma. The Zora are... MAYBE gone? Were the Parella supposed to be their pre-evolved forms? Maybe? And the Kikwi MAY be an earlier form of the Kokiri, but they're not quite the Kokiri. "Ah", but I hear you argue, "It sounds like she was introduced to Legend of Zelda with Ocarina of Time, and is thus letting her nostalgia color her expectations! Of course she couldn't take the new features into her heart if she's constantly looking for the old and familiar instead of taking in the new!" And I would say that's a very astute argument AND you're on the money on what was her "first" Zelda game, but just one more thing... WHAT 'new' were we given? The Kikwi are a forest-dwelling race of jovial sprites. The Mogma are the coarse but good-hearted hard-working inhabitants of a mountainous region. The Parella are the aloof and etheral dwellers of a water-logged world. And I had to look up the wiki for both Mogma and Parella's names because they did NOTHING MEMORABLE to make their names stick in my mind. (The Kikwi at least had the decency to sport a punny name and look like adorable little bird-beaked scrotums.) These races are just the Ocarina of Time-races remixed but with WAY less charisma. They don't have any memorable settlements or give the impression they've much of a culture or community. They don't really have any sidequests that can develop them or their histories, and while I get why they're split up and don't interact because ancient and wild Hyrule, they end up feeling like disjointed pieces rather than a cohesive whole, they don't come together to form an engaging world (they don't even talk about what THEY'VE been doing or how they've been surviving while the Hylians chilled up in Skyloft. There's nothing that really SEPARATES them from Gorons, Zora and Kokiri. The impression the left me with was the writers / designers going "Well we can't just recycle the old, we can't let ourselves be tied down by preconceived notions- let's INNOVATE!" ... And all they could do was reskin what was already there. And somehow this took so long there wasn't any time left to give the reskins a story. Okay, that's me being facetious- I know Skyward Sword's focus was on creating puzzle overworlds, so it was probably intentional that they didn't create any towns or intricate NPC:s- that just wasn't their goal. But it DID have the unintentional side effect of making me MUCH less invested in Hyrule, because when the Mogma were chased out of their homes and I had to Solid Link my way around, or when the forest was flooded troubling both Parella and Kikwi, I just... didn't care. At no point did I feel endeared by or engaged with these races. I just saw them as checkmarks I had to run around and talk to in order to progress, because there wasn't anything to them to make me see them in a different light. And just look at the fandoms treatment of them- when was the last time you saw Mogma or Parella fan-art? They've done VERY little inroads into fans hearts. There's just no hook to them. If you're not here for the puzzles, traversing Hyrule in Skyward Sword is BORING. And yeah, I know you can't expect Nintendo of all companies to care about story over gameplay but I'm just saying- Ocarina of Time managed the balance better and that game became an instantly beloved classic. Skyward Sword can't reach that far because they put it all on one card, and much as I LIKED that card I'm the type who needs both to LOVE a game. I will admit I liked the Hylians more than my sister did. Due to aforementioned reasons she felt Groose was the ONLY one who left an impression, and I won't exactly argue that. Groose is beauty, Groose is grace, but a game cannot survive on Groose alone. Still- I also felt charmed by Peatrice and her infatuation arc (if only because it asked us to make a dreadful choice), Fledge's journey from twink to twunk (though I admit I had to google his name, could have sworn it was "Pieck" or something) and of course, the OG Dampierre and his adorable quest for humanity. Buuut... we had BOTH let ourselves be swayed by previews saying Skyloft would have a lot of sidequests to think we'd be getting something like Majora's Mask. NOT the case. Charmed as I occasionally were, most of the errands in Skyloft were dull fetch quest with little to no story attached to them and NONE could stand up to the greats like Anju and Kafei, or Anju's extended family, or Gorman drowning his sorrows in milk or the guard and carpenters arguing with the mayor, or just about any of the mask-providers and their tragedies. Just like OoT's races, SS just couldn't stack up to the greats in the series. Wherever you stand in the "gameplay versus story" balance I don't know, and I do acknowledge SS is more fun to PLAY than OoT... provided you manage to get the motion controls which I could but it seems a lot just plain couldn't, and if you're one of them then yeah that's a BIG negative. And I will admit I flubbed the first sailcloth test a TON and couldn't quite get the hang of Loftwing flight until later, and funny story- The Ancient Cistern, the temple and boss so many love? I spent SO long on that boss because I UTTERLY misinterpreted what you were supposed to do with it. I think I was down to like three hearts before I FINALLY grasped the trick. In my defense I IMMEDIATELY got Ghirahim and handed him his ass in ALL his encounters, so it's not JUST that I have to Git Gud. But in the end I felt it's worldbuilding was FAR weaker and less engaging than OoT's, with the charmless races and characters contributing to a large portion of that. Again- the ones that work are like charm ICBMs, so overwhelming and accurate that it's easy to forget that when they're NOT on screen what we get is cardboard stuffed with sawdust. But I'd say it's not right to ignore the lows when casting judgment on SS as whole. So yeah, sorry for the impromptu review in the comment section, I just wanted to word-vomit a little on something that bugged me with SS for a long time and that I don't really see a lot of discussion on. I'd say it's a 7 / 10, 6 / 10 in it's weaker moments. Overworld is fun, the world-building is not. Some think that's important, some don't. I think that in the end there probably won't be some DRASTIC re-evaluation of SS in the coming days. Those into gameplay over story might finally be able to engage with it on better terms, but my (and those like me) issues remain so I'm gonna keep thinking what I already think. Glad it's remade so it can remain accessible moving forward, at least.
Yeah I very much disliked the silent realms. The game already recycled the same uninteresting environments 2 or more times, they didn't need a silent realm for every area. Cool idea, really tedious execution in my opinion.
Yeah, maybe we should have an option to just immediately skip to the credits too. "Yay, I beat the game!" I swear, some people are such lazy crybabies unwilling to walk uphill for any reason.
@@timthetoolpool Not sure anyone's arguing that. Most complaints about the silent realms come from the overt repetition of the same environments. None of them have any unique features or difficulty progression so they evidently slapped them into the game as easy padding.
@@creativebeetle Well, I understand the problem. Recycled environments as you say initially don’t seem very interesting. But I like the realms for that very reason. Having spent time in the areas before, and then getting to test my knowledge of how to traverse them in a stressful test was exciting.
@@creativebeetle That's fair, but that's Skyward Sword. Better off addressing that issue by simply not using the same idea in future titles though if the market says they don't like it.
I died several times useing analog, switched to motion and killed him without losing a single heart. The GAME plays well with analog, the fights...not so much.
On the wii version since I've played it an ungodly amount of times, i got pretty good at it. And since i own a switch lite i had to play with buttons, and he mopped the floor with me the first time cuz i was fumbling my button presses. So i decided to leave, practice on bokoblins and remember to stay calm, and on my second attempt i absolutely thrashed him more efficiently than i can on wii
It runs great on Ryujinx, the Switch emulator. Only problem I saw was some textures don't remove the transparency. but as far as performance, it runs at full speed for me, even at 4K.
By far the best review of this remaster I have watched. Too many of the other full reviews focus primarily on the synopsis and barely dig into how it is as a remaster except to say "motion controls bad". A few of them also acted like the legitimate criticisms such as price tag and Amiibo issue equate to calling the remaster as a whole garbage and sometimes straight up say to stop complaining. On a more minor note, you are the only one to point out that there should have been some hybrid motion/non-motion control options. Probably because every single one of them thinks that the original controls were terrible full stop. I for one thought that they felt very natural for everything except loftwing.
Never played skyward sword. Never had a wii sadly and my folks didn't enjoy games outside of wiisport or wiiplay. I'm glad they released it for the switch however so I finally have a chance to play it. Always been curious on it even though channels like this and others have given me the story of it. No spoilers warning needed, I'm a huge LOZ fan without being the one playing it. On my way now to go grab my copy and I'm excited to see what the first story in the "timeline" has to offer. Wish me luck. And thanks big time to you KingK for your videos brother. You have given me plenty of insight into many games especially in the LOZ saga and your videos (while being opinions) are phenomenal. Best wishes to you and your family.🤙
Bruh. The amiibo functionality isn’t really a big deal. I want one for my collection, but that’s it. “But speed runners are…” Hush. Are you a speed runner? Does it matter to you? Nobody has to pay a scalper shit. Let them sit on their stock. They’ll either break, or Nintendo will repress. Also, get over the $60 price tag. It’s Nintendo’s policy. Always has been. Always will be. They don’t cheapen their brands. The fact that people still get upset over this and haven’t accepted it as a fact of life, are clearly showing that they are newer Nintendo fans.
Glad they finally fixed this shit lol. Def in my top 3 Zelda games. The storyline and characters were super dope to me. That Silent Realm was horrifying 😭😭😭 My Top: 1) Botw 2) Oot 3) Skyward
I do hope this game gets patched to have more options for the motion controls. Cause I 100% agree with you on wanting motion controls for the sword and aiming with the bow, but not everything else
I just want the addition of a left-handed mode for the motion controls; it would be as easy as just remapping each form of motion control to the opposite joy-con (and both joy-cons have the exact same motion-control hardware, so it's more than possible) and then mirroring either Link or the game to make Link left-handed to match. It would take far less time to implement and test than the button controls undoubtedly took.
@@matthewmuir8884 you are so right. Though I think when it comes to accessibility options, Japanese companies are a bit behind the times. A lot of games made in Japan have the bare minimum when it comes to options
The less you overthink it, the better swordplay gets. The analogue stick sword is so quick, Ghirahim didn't stand a chance! I'm really loving the stick controls.
I had to do a double take when I saw that title because I genually assumed you wouldn't like it. Don't get me wrong, this is good to know. I'm glad the improvements are more substantial than we assumed and they make Skyward Sword feel a lot less tedious to play.
I could not agree more with the statement that the motion controls are more immersive. My first two Zelda games were ocarina of time and skyward sword. Beating Ganon? Really cool and a legendary moment. 9 year old me swinging my Wii remote into demises chest? Unforgettable
This review put my thoughts into words. It’s not one sided for “Nintendo killed my family and burned my house down” or “Nintendo is the second coming of Christ” you acknowledged the good and the bad equally, great stuff!
I always say "at least they aren't as bad as EA or activision/blizzard". Like Nintendo is definitely more money hungry than they used to be, but they aren't as atrocious when it comes to the others (at least with their games, and am not commenting on their stranglehold on their ip's and such)
@@VonSnuggles1412 fr, Nintendo are greedy bastards but they don’t crunch their developers and would rather delay the games instead, they deserve more credit for that
Absolutely great review! I already thought you last review on the game was good and honest, and I'm glad you can call Nintendo out on their problems without demonizing the game itself to do so! Wish more people could do both like that lmao
I'm also frustrated with the forced motion on the loftwing and beetle. I still use it for the sword gameplay but man flying that loftwing makes my carpal tunnel worse
I dunno if this helps, but maybe try using your whole arm instead if you wanna still use motion. The joycons are lighter than the Wiimote and the loftwing speeds up if you're pointing it down by even keeping your arm lowered. Use the charges to make the loftwing fly higher, and then keep your arm lowered to have him speed up by descending. That's only if you're not just using buttons for the loftwing.
the loftwing controls really suck. The beetle for me is easy to control tho. Very hit or miss on the motion controls for this game. The swordplay espescially the percentage of times it'll go the way i want is pretty close to 50/50 now, which is poor. The way combat is set up keeps this pretty far away from my favorite zeldas list.
My guess is that the original plan was to release Skyward Sword HD with the amiibo at 60$ like Twilight Princess HD but some idiot on the finantial team at Nintendo was like "We are going to lose money! Sell them separated"... The amiibo bundled with the game would've made so much sense both monetary and for the QoL that comes with it...
I don't understand the hate for the Silent Realms so much - those were harrowing, extremely fun segments for me. I loved the heart-pumping spook you get when the guardians are on your tail. And coming back to the same areas again serves its purpose especially when one of them is UNDERWATER. Yeah it's a fetch quest but it still changes the whole layout and I always thought that was super cool. I always loved Skyward Sword for its dungeons, story, and characters. I just HATED the handholdy annoyance that was Fi. Otherwise it's a great Zelda game... just one that Nintendo won't be having me purchase twice.
I have never understood the hate for the silent realms. They have so much atmosphere! And while once I would have said they actually provide a challenge, I can’t even say they are difficult anymore. I just waltzed through them as if they were nothing, putting more effort into finding the dusk relics than beating the realm.
A Four Swords Adventures retrospective would actually be rather interesting. For me, the main problem with the game was always that its main selling point: 4-player co-op multiplayer, required those GBA cables that could connect the Gameboy to the GameCube. I bought it because I thought it would be cool to play a Zelda game with my siblings, only to be disappointed and left to play the game by myself. Speaking of which, the single-player for the game, thanks to the formations and being able to separate the Links, was actually rather good. I honestly would've really liked to see a Zelda game that used the Four Swords Adventures gameplay but had a proper Zelda world instead of a level-select.
It's refreshing to see you actually talk about the game instead of talking about Nintendo's business practices. I feel like there have been too many videos where I want to hear about a game where the person just devolves into complaining about Nintendo rereleasing a game for 60 dollars. I don't even get the complaint that games should be sold for less because they're older. I don't see how time depreciates a games value. Skyward sword on the switch still provides a great experience that lasts 30 hours, which I find to be worthy of 60 dollars. It actually kind of saddens me because I find it hard to motivate myself to by new games anymore when I could just play games from 5 years ago that cost a fraction of the price and that are still of very high quality. I fear it might have a negative impact on indie games that you can pretty much buy old triple A games for less than new indie games. Why would people bother spending 20 dollars on a 5 hour indie game when they can just buy devil may cry collection for the same price on sale? Three lengthy critically acclaimed games for 6 dollars each. I also don't understand how putting something in a collection also reduces it's value, but I'm just rambling at this point and no one actually cares about what I have to say.
@@chamclamtv I really wouldn't mind. 60 dollars isn't too bad if you have a decent paying job. If you really are strapped for cash, there are plenty of free to play games and you could steal the games by pirating until you're in a better financial position to support your favourite games. Also charging 100 dollars for a collection somewhat defeats the purpose of making it a collection. You could just selll them individually and the accumulated cost would be 100 dollars. Like selling three games in a collection at a reduced price of 35 dollars each, where the individual price is cheaper than modern games, but the total price still comes to a decent amount.
Old games are the last thing that will put indie games out of competition, in my opinion. Anyways, I feel like Nintendo, and Sony and Microsoft too honestly, should go back to selling the console at a higher price so that the games can be a little cheaper.

9:38 Hey, you can just buy an empty NTSC tag chip and a smartphone capable of re-writing NTSC chips and you can have ANY amiibo. And for some reason, this Chip trick works also on Skylanders and LEGO Dimensions
Small note on Amiibos, while gating quality of life functionality behind already expensive statuettes before the scalping markup is contemptible, it seems not to be widely known that 3rd parties produce Amiibo cards and coins. They grant access to all amiibo content for a few bucks. Bonus points for none (?) of that money going to Nintendo.
@@Rockaxldude certainly no excuse, but anytime I here a video rightly complaining about amiibos (which seems to be happening more and more often) I get the impression that this alternative is secret tech that could act as a balm to the constant amiibo burns for a lot of folks.
I wish I had something to say about the game's quality. However, I can't because I didn't purchase it, due to the one barrier to entry that still remains: the lack of a left-handed mode for the motion controls. I don't want to use button controls; I want to swing the sword with my own hand, but if I were to try, Fi would ask me why I'm repeatedly raising my shield. I'm surprised you didn't comment on this, given how you were possibly the only critic to point out how Mario Galaxy in 3D All-Stars only mapped the pointer controls to the right joy-con's gyro with no option to remap those controls to the left joy-con's gyro.
@@KingKlonoa Thanks, KingK. I appreciate it. You would not believe how many times I've pointed out the lack of a left-handed mode for the motion controls only to then get a series of replies saying stuff like, "Lol just use the button controls."
I agree. I'm not left-handed, but it was one of the first things I looked for in the options and I think it's inexcusable to not include it in a game like this. I imagine Nintendo's excuse would probably be something like, "Oh, but Link holds the sword in his right hand so it'd be too awkward for lefties to play that way," (this is literally why they mirrored the Wii version of Twilight Princess, so the right-handed majority would be able to play it properly) even though we all know that's BS since the original Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess worked perfectly well with the ambidextrous design of the remote and nunchuk.
@@MarisaReset I personally would've wanted a left-handed mode for the motion controls to also mirror either Link or the game itself to make Link left-handed to match, simply because the only feedback motion controls can provide is visual feedback and Link being a lefty would help (also, I'm just used to Link being a lefty from literally every other Zelda game except Breath of the Wild), but I agree with your point overall. The worst thing about that BS is that, if they actually said that, their reasoning would quickly become circular: Nintendo: "We can't add a lefty mode because Link holds the sword in his right hand" Anyone: "But Link is normally a lefty; why isn't he in this game?" Nintendo: "Because it would be too awkward for a righty to play if Link was left-handed" Anyone: "Then why not have both? i.e. Link can hold the sword in the left hand or the right depending on the player?" Nintendo: "Uh... Uh... *(their brains desperately struggle to avoid exploding)* …Link is actually ambidextrous; it was only a matter of chance that he was left-handed in the older games... [other nonsense, other nonsense]".
Man, it never occurred to me what a functional necessity this toggleable control scheme was gonna turn out to be, when I assumed it was just meant to make it appeal to a broader range of tastes.
th-cam.com/video/Vid8lIXmZwE/w-d-xo.html Try out this fix. I can't speak for myself since I don't have drift, but my friend tried it out and it seemed to get rid of the drifting entirely.
@@tomato3456 thanks. I’ve seen the cardboard trick before. I have to get a screw driver that works on the joycons. I have some for eye glasses but joycon screws are even smaller.
I'm in a similar boat, kind of. My personal joy cons NEVER drifted. Only once I let my kids used them did they start to drift.(after years of my using them) I have my launch switch lite and have zero issues, but the kids NEVER touch it. My pro controller started to drift now, again once I let my son use it lol. Luckily that new trick with the piece of paper inside the controller seems to be a legit fix. I own 11 joycons and only ONE PAIR doesn't drift! I'm looking forward to cracking them open and using the little paper trick to make em good as new again hehe.
Same, I still have my original joycons from when the system launched. Still no issues with either lol it almost makes me weary to buy the newer ones cause I feel like I got too lucky with the first
Skyward Sword has amazing Dungeons, Music, Characters, and Lore. I didn’t like the controls at first but after I got used to them the game actually became really fun and I actually thought the flying mechanics weren’t all that bad. Discovering treasure in this game is a lot of fun and some of the side quests and games are really fun and memorable as well like bamboo island, Fun Fun Island, and Pumpkin landing. The relationship between Link and Zelda is extremely close and meaningful which makes the story more intriguing and it arguably has the best version of Zelda.
Glad you said the right analogue stick starts making sense later on. I played the opening with a Pro controller and have been considering swapping to motion controls for my next session because the sword just felt so off and unresponsive on the stick.
Man, I love everyone telling me "I can't believe you support them selling this back to people at full price."
I don't. I would implore everyone to watch the video to its conclusion before commenting (I know you won't do it, but hey: I tried)
Actually, to add onto this, if you don't buy your games digitally I would actually advise people to buy SSHD used, because then Nintendo won't get your active support for pricing their games too high.
Imagine people watching an entire video before writing a comment about your video. What a concept.

Pretty much what i've been doing honestly. I tend to get good price cuts on them too so it's better to buy their games used anyway.

Nintendo was totally afraid of the player missing something in the Original.
It actually was! There was just a tick for it in the original, but it just never went used.
Nintendo thought their Wii audience were either toddlers or morons.
And the silent realms are amazing and tense!
Without the weird and IMO painful motion controls
I haven't had a single problem with this game 1 beat the game 100% and am currently trying the same on hero mode (just got hylian shield)

@@geminisfl as a kid I was scared of and dreaded the silent realms. I loved the challenge but they were hard. Now I'm looking forward to the next one.
SSHD showed me how ambitious the Original was on the Wii, and how it feels much more at home on more powerful hardware.
Honestly though. I always hesitated to replay this game even though I remember loving it. Everything that makes it great is so much more apparent now. As someone who has defended Skyward Sword's motion controls for nearly a decade, the game feels so much better without them.

I like em, even if I prefer buttons. I’ll turn on motion for the combat sometimes, and just turn them off for flying, swimming, the harp, etc
The motion controls are great until you have to start using the stab motion. That just never seems to read correctly for me, pressing the joysticks for stabs and shield parries feels so much more consistent (to me at least)
Options are always great though, I’d never advocate for the removal of motion controls I just like that people can choose the control scheme they prefer
@Craig Adams Those are also my main complaints, but I don't think any of that hampers the experience as much as others would say. My opinion obviously, but I think the game has a good habit of throwing new challenges at you, even if you are backtracking through the same areas.

Knowing the landscape really well, using the beacon fruits strategically, and saving easy to grab tears for later are key to completing the silent realms most successfully and quickly. And replaying the game will help you learn the landscape really well.

"Item pickups don't repeat every time you leave the game" *Shows a stamina fruit.* Things like that
@@deesh1124 Yea I’m aware. Strange choice
Hello Deesh :)
Literally 0 people care about you speedrunning this game, talk about a weird obsession.
Motion control is one of the best things about this game
It's just a nice, decent control scheme in the Switch version. And both control schemes are varied enough that I don't have issues with muscle memory. I tend to use Motion when playing in TV mode and button controls when playing in Handheld. I'd also just like to state that using the right Joystick to swing the sword is fun as shit.
I have a switch lite so I had to use button controls. It took a while to get comfortable with them but once I did I enjoyed it.
I wouldn't classify Breath of the wild shrines as dungeons.
@@z.a.y.n-5053 they mean divine beasts
Definitely not "2 hour challenges" but I agree.

I currently just got the hylian shield from the thunder dragon.
It's like Skyward Sword got placed next to a Timeshift Stone and then someone struck it.

Weird thing about the remake: it seems like ALL indoor dialogue has an echo filter now, even in tiny houses. Does that bother anyone else?
I noticed this while going to Pipit’s house especially. His mom’s voice echoes like hell
you know it's a Remaster and not a remake.
The new button only controls definitely takes a decent amount of time to get used to but once you master it, it feels great and you find yourself breezing through combat and tearing down enemies. Once I got to the second dungeon, the controls felt great and smooth.

The only problems I still have with this remaster is just the price point and the locking of hero mode for a 10 year old game assuming no one wants to play hard mode right away. Nintendo has a really terrible treatment of difficulty modes with a supposedly for all ages demographic and aging fan base.
If I may ask, what do you believe the price should be?
60$ is just sooo much
@@Blueisland-e9m 40 would be nice
I was pretty surprised to see a King K video with this as the title
Same
Here's a minor gripe I have that I haven't seen anyone else talk about.
As somebody who’s been a huge defender of Skyward Sword since it’s release, seeing a King K video with this title feels like a huge vindication.
I can’t believe you put out a video with such a trash opinion, I used to have such high respect.

It's not particularly good lore for an origin story of one of the most beloved IPs of all time, but it's kind of... quaint that they tried, I guess.
People complain about the $60 price yet they never saw how bad the price of one LaserActive game is
I think it’s also important to say that it’s ok to not buy the game AND complain as that lets Nintendo know that this kind of behavior is unacceptable, and warns customers.
@@makasete30 I mean, if they make something amazing like, say Miitopia 2, I'd give them my entire wallet
Great game, terrible business :(
Love your videos. I appreciate that you lay out more than one side to a discussion or contrary opinions as well. Thanks.

Just finished this game and, having never beat the original, it was a masterpiece. Sure, some of the revists were superfluous and that escort mission sucked, but everything else? Amazing.

Of course she couldn't take the new features into her heart if she's constantly looking for the old and familiar instead of taking in the new!"
And I would say that's a very astute argument AND you're on the money on what was her "first" Zelda game, but just one more thing...
(The Kikwi at least had the decency to sport a punny name and look like adorable little bird-beaked scrotums.)
These races are just the Ocarina of Time-races remixed but with WAY less charisma. The impression the left me with was the writers / designers going "Well we can't just recycle the old, we can't let ourselves be tied down by preconceived notions- let's INNOVATE!"
Wow, This is really long. 👍 for the effort
Some people wanted the silent realms removed?? Haha, I’m glad they didn’t do that. They were one of the things in this game I enjoyed the most.
Your experience with Girahim mirrors mine exactly, lol.
The duality of wanting to get this because of the improvements even though you have the original at hand but Nintendo as a company fucking hates you
buy it used(even if the price is pretty close)/ emulate it/ hack your switch and pirate it
It runs great on Ryujinx, the Switch emulator. Only problem I saw was some textures don't remove the transparency. but as far as performance, it runs at full speed for me, even at 4K.
yeah, honestly I feel no shame or qualms about pirating nintendo first party products. I incitivize it.
@@Torbulous And those issues will inevitably be ironed out sooner or later anyway.
@@YEs69th420 Yes you're right. They are pretty quick to iron out kinks. I'm sure that will get fixed very soon.
You are clearly brainwashed by Nintendo. But whatever, more power to you I guess 😑

The motion control aiming on the original SS was atrocious.
Great video, I'm glad I wasn't the only one who struggled with the button sword controls on the first Ghirahim fight lol.
The less you overthink it, the better swordplay gets. The analogue stick sword is so quick, Ghirahim didn't stand a chance! I'm really loving the stick controls.
Same
I had to do a double take when I saw that title because I genually assumed you wouldn't like it.
Don't get me wrong, this is good to know. I'm glad the improvements are more substantial than we assumed and they make Skyward Sword feel a lot less tedious to play.
Was on the fence about getting this but I think this pushed me into grabbing it, it's the only 3D Zelda I've never played.
It’s very good but it’s way too easy.

When I beat this on Switch, I got teary eyed when Fi left. Going thru the Wii version I ain't gonna miss her as much
I could not agree more with the statement that the motion controls are more immersive.
Like Nintendo is definitely more money hungry than they used to be, but they aren't as atrocious when it comes to the others (at least with their games, and am not commenting on their stranglehold on their ip's and such)
@@VonSnuggles1412 fr, Nintendo are greedy bastards but they don’t crunch their developers and would rather delay the games instead, they deserve more credit for that
Nintendo isn’t even greedy though
Anyone else remember when he used to say "I hope you have some well deserved fun today" ? I seriously miss that...
I still ask myself for the same for haters of the Zora Eggs and Tears of Light.
Personally speaking, that is good in a game for variety.
They should've included this game with ww and tp as an all star package for $60 but they preferred to sell each one of them for full price
You could actually skip getting the cat in the Wii version too.
But it's still not worth $60. I think we can all admit that.
Value is subjective
I remember getting the collection/trilogy from some Playstation games at less than this price and they were also HD, 30 euros..
Not really. Value is subjective
@@ericwijaya2119 Halo MCC is *also* subjective, but we can all agree that was far more worth it than this.
@@stygames5450 I can't exactly say, I'm not a Halo fan nor am I a Zelda fan
I have never understood the hate for the silent realms. They have so much atmosphere! And while once I would have said they actually provide a challenge, I can’t even say they are difficult anymore. I just waltzed through them as if they were nothing, putting more effort into finding the dusk relics than beating the realm.
You should do a retrospective on the Zelda game everyone can unanimously agree is the best, Four Swords Adventure for the gamecube.
KingK upload spree, I love it here
It's refreshing to see you actually talk about the game instead of talking about Nintendo's business practices.
I also don't understand how putting something in a collection also reduces it's value, but I'm just rambling at this point and no one actually cares about what I have to say.
so would you like to pay more for older titles and $100+ for collection? thats a pretty expensive barrier to entry for an already costly hobby
NOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU HAVE TOO HATE NOOOOOO YOU CAN’T ENJOY SOMETHING DESPITE THE PRICE NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE WHATEVER THE INTERNET TELLS YOU NOOOOOO YOU CAN’T ACKNOWLEDGE FLAWS OF ART AND SEPARATE THE BUSINESS SIDE OF THINGS TO FULLY APPRECIATE A WORK NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

For sure, they're reliable alternatives that don't cost an arm and leg. Still doesn't excuse it but it's still a better option.
There's a good point, you can add it to my list of complaints!
The worst thing about that BS is that, if they actually said that, their reasoning would quickly become circular:
Nintendo: "We can't add a lefty mode because Link holds the sword in his right hand"
Anyone: "But Link is normally a lefty; why isn't he in this game?"
Nintendo: "Because it would be too awkward for a righty to play if Link was left-handed"
Anyone: "Then why not have both? i.e. Link can hold the sword in the left hand or the right depending on the player?"
Nintendo: "Uh... Uh... *(their brains desperately struggle to avoid exploding)* …Link is actually ambidextrous; it was only a matter of chance that he was left-handed in the older games... [other nonsense, other nonsense]".
Nice. Too bad joycon drift keeps me from playing this game the way it was meant to be played.
Man, it never occurred to me what a functional necessity this toggleable control scheme was gonna turn out to be, when I assumed it was just meant to make it appeal to a broader range of tastes.
