      14 out of 20 is an outrage, Zelda games are mandatory 9 out of 10 and that's minimum, put some respect on its name

    Having never played this one I was excited, yet hesitant about the controls. I decided at the last minute to get it on launch day and I'm happy to say that I've been having a great time with it! It's not perfect, but it still offers that trademark Zelda charm and transports me back to a simpler time gaming in my early teens.

    It’s been ten years, and that first dungeon still stumped me in a few of the area puzzles.
    And the dynamic between Zelda and Link is perfect, only beaten by their relationship in BoTW.
    And this time around I want that Hylian Shield.
    The price and Amiibo locked content is a bummer but the convenience of it being on Switch and not having to use motion controls justifies the purchase for me.

    I grew up reading the legendary N64 games magazine (from 98 onwards). Your reviews remind me so much of there review's and how they structured them. It would be really cool if you did a one off magazine (Not sure how practical that is these days) as a collector's item with your top scoring switch games.

    Is this game any good? I’ve recently got into this series more. I just don’t know about the button controls(joystick) for sword attacks. How is this combat wise?? Other than breath of the Wild, it’s this game. I might get links awakening for old school later and I’m unsure about both Hyrule Warriors titles. I remember not having much fun in dynasty/samurai Warriors on ps2/Xbox but that was ages ago. I kind of wish they got rid of the precise direction sword attacks and made the y button for sword strikes but it is what it is.. any thoughts or recommendations?

  • @rodrigoalvas1866
    @rodrigoalvas1866 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I love your videos, I have watched almost all of them, however I have always been curious of what is your metric to grade the different scores, because sometimes I think that getting 20 is almost impossible to the point that it better be 0 to 18, for example, in this case the audio part, it's an amazing full orchestral soundtrack composed by koji kondo, you really can't get any better than that and it still doesn't have a score of 20 out of 20, why was that?
    other than that I agree on everything you said, It's a great review nonetheless.

    • @trenken

    Having never played it on the Wii U, this was a launch day purchase for me. Loving it so far, although the need to constantly recalibrate the motion controls with the Y button (anyone else experiencing that?) and the inaccuracy of movement when doing things like jumping for ropes is a bit frustrating.

    • @frankhuiskamp2536
      @frankhuiskamp2536 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honestly think the Wiimotion Plus was less cumbersome than this “I don’t have a sensor so I am just guessing where you are positioned” Joycon situation. Thankfully recalibrating is very easy and I just made it a habit to do it every single time I am using motion. Becomes second nature. But it’s still fiddly, yes.

      I got it on the wii and loved it. Then I replayed a couple times on the wii u. (had that janky upscaled hd going on). But I don't know if I feel up to paying £43 for the exact same game with a few tweeks. Windwaker HD was a good buy. They literally remade the game and it looked and played amazing. That was worth it. I can't see this one being worth it. Think I'd rather dust off the Wii U and get a new knockoff wiimote (since other had batteries leak in there at some point).
      If I ever do deicide to rebuy for the switch, it'll have to be on sale at under £20. I think the original was like £30 on launch. But again, they really haven't done enough to it to justify the same sort of pricing as a brand new game.

    This is the only main line Zelda game that I never had an opportunity to play, as my Wii broke before it released. I am absolutely hooked. I haven't been able to put it down in my free time. It's the complete opposite of breath of the wild in the sense that it's very linear and very dungeon heavy, which is exactly what I wanted. As much as I loved BotW and as much as that game is a masterpiece as it stands on is own, it really didn't feel like a true Zelda game. SS is scratching that itch

    What I would have really liked in this remaster is more customization concerning the controls. Instead of just using or not using motion if I could just specify motion for sword fights only, no motion for pointing of bows slings and such, no motion for the flying parts and the beetle, that would have been my ultimate control scheme. Because I really like the motion controls for the fighting and I really like the right stick to be free for the camera, but the motion controls for flying and pointing are just not fun.

I actually really like it , I knew it wasn't going to be a patch on botw , but it's where the story began 😊 , I do hope however they do fetch a bundle pack for us Zelda fan's ,I think we deserve it for paying full price for a remastered version imo . I played the original and it looks much like that same game. I know it is likely the case that having it in hand and on my TV will make a big difference, especially being 60fps. I don't mind the controls as much as some people seem to. I'm playing with buttons and it's a bit janky but doesn't ruin the experience. The problem for me is how linear the game is. There isn't really much exploration as any of the other 3d Zelda's and I feel it really brings the game down. I think it would have felt less like this if the different zones were interconnected instead of always having to drop back to the sky.
    I played it on the Wii but never finished it because of the repetitive fetch quests towards the end. I'm about half way through ATM and know that part is coming up so hopefully will just push through

    I double dipped this but the one thing that lets this down is using the switch remote for motion control. Unlike the Wii that used a sensor bar with the Wiimote the Switch relies solely on its remote and I found I am constantly pressing Y to centre the remote, whereas the Wiimote and sensor bar was more stable. Other than this little frustrating issue the rest of the improvements does make a better game.

      I’d suggest giving it a run. The button controls have fixed a ton of the issues. I personally like it better than twilight princess. Some amazing dungeons in this one, and the worlds outside of the dungeons are like dungeons themselves.

    I never managed to play this one. The motion controls always put me off. I might grab physical copy when it’s on sale or used.
    I can’t see the price changing any time soon digitally. Great review as always.

      @@TheInternetIsDeadToMe per my comment on the switchup review.... "aka the legend of Zelda - recalibrating sword. gotta give it to Nintendo. they SOMEHOW managed to make the joycon controls worse than the Wii (see Matthewmatosis retrospective - tl;dr you wouldn't accept a button input system that only worked 80% of the time and it's generous to say the joycon controls are even 80% accurate). then the button mapping in that "control" mode. FML what a dumpster fire. you have to constantly hold L to manually control the camera thanks to Nintendo forcing you to use some dumb right stick substitute for Moco. sh1tshow. and combat sections are genuinely annoying because regardless of skill you're left hopelessly flailing your arms, hoping for an input to eventually register, hoping that input vaguely corresponds to the motion you intended, hoping that motion tracks to an attack that lands before you're stabbed to death and frankly don't really care to play on because it's probably just more humane to put link, and yourself, out of the misery of playing this game. screw Zelda, she's a big girl, she can get an easyJet back to skyloft. oh, and you can't run and move the camera at the same time. oh, and Fi is still the bane of the entire Zelda series. I could go on but hopefully we can take the rose tinted glasses off, acknowledge that in the anniversary year we've been stiffed with this and a freaking game and watch and just accept that, ultimately, Nintendo don't give a flying F about its most loyal players. Being a Nintendo fan is a lifelong agreement to being in an abusive relationship while being regularly gas lighted and milked for cash. at this point, screw you Nintendo. you want a quality of life improvement? don't play this freaking control nightmare. oh, and please let me know if anyone else is interested in a class action lawsuit for repetitive strain injury after we all b0ll0x our wrists playing this physiological disaster."

    This score seems very fair. There are some annoyances about the game, but on the other side, it has some of the most clever, ingenious dungeons. The desert worlds in Zelda games are normally a bit drab for me, but Skyward Sword, hands down, has the most delightful take on it. I'm glad to revisit it.

    Would love to try this one, but the price is a bit high imo. Especially with one of the biggest new features locked behind the additional Amiibo purchase. I don't want to encourage either practice (pricing re-releases too high or locking the coolest new features behind extra purchases at game launch), so won't be buying this one anytime soon. Too bad - the story really does interest me, as this is one Zelda game I haven't had the chance to play yet.

      Never had a chance to play it on wii but I love it so far though I agree. Unless its a complete remake it shouldn't be full price.

    • @Walrus286
      @Walrus286 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed on the remaster side, but that Amiibo thing doesn’t really impact the gameplay at all. Those bird statues are spammed everywhere throughout the world, and are in places after / before big fights. You never really need to enter the sky in a place where they aren’t placed. And if you do, it’s a minute out of the way at most to get to one.

    • @nicked_fenyx
      @nicked_fenyx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Walrus286 I do get that, and understand the amiibo thing is an extra fun convenience and not necessary to play the game. That said, it still presents itself as one of the biggest changes made to the game upon its re-release, which is where I have a problem with it. If it were just some visual customization or the equivalent (like many of the things tied to amiibos in other games), I'd have no issue with it. But to lock perhaps the biggest change to the game behind an additional purchase, especially when charging the same price for the base game as generally gets charged for completely new AAA games (where all content is new rather than this one, extra feature), feels wrong and greedy. Either charge less for the base game, so people who want to try the new feature can feel okay paying more for it, or, ideally, include the cool new feature in the game's initial purchase price to begin with.
      That said, I could just be an old, penniless grump, lol. Either way, this isn't a direction I want to see games headed, so I can't bring myself to support it. Of course, others can do what feels right for them. We all have a say in where this industry heads, and my view might just be the minority. If so, I'm cool with that. I just hope players are mindful of what they're actually supporting so the majority ends up getting what they really want, and doesn't get nickel-and-dimed to death with future games.

    I never played this one despite my love for the series, but I absolutely refuse to pay full price for it on principle. The fact that they're shamelessly charging full price for a remaster that barely looks anything different from the original and has such few changes is annoying on its own. The fact that they're gatekeeping a convenient feature for the game behind the purchase of a limited figure is unforgivable. Instead of adding value to the purchase of the remaster they deliberately took from it so they could charge more, and then they did it in a way that has limited availability to make sure people jump at the chance at purchasing.
    I love Nintendo as a developer of software and hardware, but this is the kind of greedy practice that makes me despise them as a company.

    I have a theory that Nintendo only gave a partial effort to making the motion controls work with buttons. I think they were scared if the made the button controls too good, that no one would use the motion controls, which is still to this day crap.

    I love the idea of bringing old wii/gamecube games back. But 60 full American Freedom dollars? I think I'll pass. They should make old games that are ported into new consoles 25-30 dollars max because I've already played that game before.
