    This was a great video. Subbed! Exactly what I was looking for. I was a little shocked to see the 8K video from the Samsung still looked slightly blurry. I have just upgraded my phone to the Samsung S22 Ultra and tried to use the Portrait Video mode due to the blurred background under lower light settings and a ring light. I found the video to be awful at 1080p after post processing on Camtasia. I do have quite a bit of lighting equipment/a good Rhode mic, but is it possible to get decent results with more light in the room in pro video mode? That said, I still plan to upgrade my Canon 7D DSLR(great camera but a dinosaur) to a Sony A7 iii. Any thoughts on the Sony A7iii as camera for amateur photography and videography for TH-cam? I do a lot of drawing videos and the 4K would help. Again..great video!

      Hey thank you! The a7iii is still a very very good camera for both video and photos! So with the s22 it's tricky, yes you can get a good image indoors with lights, but in my experience you need a lot of it. The s23 seems to be a lot better in this regard and I'm trying to get my hands on it to test it. But no question the a7iii will be much better!

    *A Bit of history on Samsung:*
    Samsung actually had a designated photography department in their electronics business for extra income with consumers sales. They debuted the NX10 aps-c mirrorless camera in 2010. The Galaxy S(I) smartphone also debuted that same summer. Fast forward to spring 2013 when the Galaxy S4 handset was released. Though just 13MP for a rear camera sensor, Samsung started including basic camera features as seen in most entry level cameras and 'point & shoot' models. With the next model of smartphone with the S5, Samsung Mobile had their handsets up to 16MP camera sensor equipped. 2014's model also was the first to include video capturing capabilities up to 2160p @ 30fps and more. Fall 2014, Samsung would release the photography world, game changing NX1 mirrorless that received high praise from the community of users. That was the swan song to Samsung ultimately shutting down it's photography department in the electronics area of business I'm 2016. All funding and research was to go forward and be redistributed to their mobile business to put the ongoing tech in their smartphone handsets. Because what does 80% to 90% of the world's population always have on them at all times? Samsung took Chase Jarvis's quote to heart, "The best camera is the one that's with you". Now, 2022 here we are and the S22 Ultra is a testament to everything they have learned and put it into their handset's camera tech & features. They have come a long way in the 12+ years time they have been at it. And the tech along with the features will only get better with time as we head into the future.
    Still, will a smartphone ever replace a camera? Simply put: Film stock can last years and always looks great. Digital is always evolving and the image losses it's touch with time. So take it from a 30yr photographer, it won't change a thing. Just bring more people into the art through curiosity.

      Very interesting! The first Samsung phone I got was actually the S4. Amazing how far it's come in a short period of time. Of course while that technology improves, professional camera technology improves as well.

    I appreciate this video! I have only been looking at sub $1,000 DSLRs, and I have been on the fence about cameras. Since I need to update my phone anyway, I think I will be going with the S22 ultra for now for video shoots.
    Have you found it (s22 ultra) reasonably usable if you have dedicated lighting?

      Well thank you! So I've been using it a bunch and am traveling currently and it's really great outside but the low lighting it can't compete with a mirrorless. With dedicated lighting it's much better but still the post processing can be hit or miss indoors. Which DSLRs are you considering?

    • @SamuelShaefer
      @SamuelShaefer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BradGiannini That is awesome to hear!
      I will be doing most of my video recording in the music studio to start with, so I figured upgrading my lighting was a good first step.
      I have been looking at the Canon EOS M50 Mark II, and a used Sony 6400, based off of friends suggestions, reviews, and budget🤣. I am open to any and all suggestions though.

      @BradGiannini  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SamuelShaefer Very cool, yeah I think the most important thing to consider if you want and keep on upgrading in the future is the lenses, the a6400 is a nice camera! I would decide on a brand if you to "futureproof" yourself. As someone that's switched brands about 5 times, getting new lenses can be very expensive!

    How does it compare to the Sony ZV1 vlogging camera, I need to know what to do? Does it take good low light in the dark, Christmas lights? what about walking and stablilization?

    • @BradGiannini
      @BradGiannini  ปีที่แล้ว

      The ZV1 will definitely be better indoors, and should be a little better in lower light conditions. Generally the larger the sensor the better in low light. You can see the walking / stabilization in this video, that part is pretty good on the Samsung. Depends what you need it for, but overall I would probably go with the ZV1. For $750 (price of the ZV1) if you just want something for low light, there are some better options, like a used Canon RP, which has a full frame sensor.

    Hi! great video. I actually need to upgrade my phone but at the same time i would like to create some videos for a patreon and i would love to have a great color fidelity, do you think that the s22 ultra can be a nice entra level alternative? thank you so much

    • @BradGiannini
      @BradGiannini  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks! Well I would say yes as long as you have plenty of light, but as you can see here indoors faces get really muddied. I would say if it's a lot of indoor shooting I would probably opt for an entry level mirrorless instead. Hope that helps!

    • @fabioricci7508
      @fabioricci7508 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BradGiannini yeah mostly indoor shooting and I do have a nice light setup, basically I would use it for some miniature painting tutorials so i don't need to record my face at the moment. do you think a mirrorless would still be better in this case?thank you so much

    • @BradGiannini
      @BradGiannini  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@fabioricci7508 yeah I think a mirrorless will work better especially when trying to get fine detail on a miniature. However if you want to upgrade your phone anyway, it does have a great camera, and the outdoor video is nice

  • @davidvictory9764

    I feel like for vlogging, the phones never get the skin right and make it too sharp and red, very digital. Do you think the s22 ultra is better than a gh5? With a 15mm f1.7 lens? Bc I know a gh5 lowlight isn't great

    • @BradGiannini
      @BradGiannini  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right about that, there's a lot of sharpening... Are you asking specifically for vlogging? I would probably say the gh5, although that's not optimal for vlogging either due to the crop sensor and auto focus. And yeah not the best in lowlight either, but better than a phone. I'm keeping an eye open to see if a new version of the zv-1 comes out this year, I think that could be a good vlogging camera at a good price.
