      @Avishar I had iPhone for last 10 years, even though cameras are truly amazing, zoom capabilities of my S22U make it much more preferable when taking pictures. A minor difference in picture quality can be overlooked, but a huge difference in zoom capabilities are just making S22U much more useful.

    If you still have the S22 Ultra, you should revisit this comparison. As part of the late August/early September update, there's been a significant update to how the cameras process images. The images now look even more comparable to DSLR, especially when in 108MP camera with "Detail Enhancer" enabled.

    It would be interesting to see RAW shots between the two. You could then match the S22 and the EOS camera settings and apply the same filtering in Lightroom. Most users won't be shooting RAW, but a lot of users won't add any color correction to their DSLR shots either.
    Overall, great comparison to see!

    • @458Avinash
      @458Avinash 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      My thoughts as well. Some of the Canon shots didn't look colour corrected enough. I felt this because I use an R6 and Pixel. Pixel definitely has great computational photography and portrait shots are very pleasing too. And for social media, I could do with Pixel JPEGs in certain scenarios. Definitely not for Prints, I mean, I can, but it wouldn't be anything like the R6 (or even enough to compare with my old 700D).
      Samsung oversharpens and saturates a bit more. Since we cannot undo that without losing detail, For the R6, Lifting the shadows and using masked sharpening to give a more comparable image would be better. These days people don't buy mirrorless to shoot JPEGs.

    • @mattephoto6850
      @mattephoto6850 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most people who shoot with DSLRs shoot in RAW, shooting in JPG is like buying a Ferrari, but only driving in first gear. A mobile is not even comparable to a good DSLR camera. Of course, straight out of the camera, on a TV screen, a mobile photo can look better. But if you are knowledgeable, and know how lightroom works. So the result will be considerably much better with a DSLR.

  • @josebarboza4875
    @josebarboza4875 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I feel like in all Samsung pictures the colors are really saturated making every object look separated (almost like there is a black line around every object looking like draw) while the Pro cam makes the colors softer and making everything looks in blended and realistic.

It´s an EF Lens, adapted to the R6 - it´s not an RF lens, made for the R6 and even if you take that into account it seems he own a very very bad (soft) lens. For statics objects and good light Im use the 108MP in many cases but I have to say, the portrait take great pictures.
    I sell photos and for 2 and a half years I have only used my phone, 1st because in 4"x7" photos up to 2'x3' posters there are no differences in quality, if there are certain details that most people will not notice.
    And 2nd, it is more challenging to be able to get the shot you want because of the limitations of the phone in terms of cameras but...the rain is not an obstacle, nor the sea, nor the rivers because it is waterproof....obviously, camera is camera but for small jobs it's great.
    And I have to said....great video!!!

    I think the s22 is adding sharpening and clarity witch gives It a compressed crunchy look where the r6 looks very nice. At night the s22 will beat out the r6 because it does up the exposure in phone and such but when editing you'll notice the dynamic range in a raw file from the r6 is mutch better. The phone can probably beat out some entry level crop censor cameras but it can't beat a full frame uncompressed raw file from these newer cameras like the sony a1, canon r6, nikon z9

      So I have a bad habit & hobby of shooting off photos and getting pictures on dark rides @ Disneyland. The strength smartphones have over are:
      - Lighter, not heavier like a mirrorless or dslr + lens.
      - Better lighting conditions to get pictures on the fly.
      - Don't have to time it & can snap away.
      Strengths actual camera bodies + lenses have over smartphones:
      - Can get a richer, clearer photo.
      - Images, blurred or not, can still be seen.
      - Media captured can be further edited for more detail.
      Ups & downs, still can't go wrong with either. But just be mindful that smartphone handsets have a long way to replicate the same media richness that designated cameras can do.

    It's a $120 lens on that EOS R6.
    Sure, a decent one at that.
    Also, comparing an unedited/unprocessed/unsharpened image out of a DSLR versus a ultra-processed, filtered and modified shot in a phone is kind of skewed.
    So if we're talking actual image quality, then the DSLR will win every time.
    BUT! If we're talking delivery time, and quickly adapting it for social media feeds. Then there's no need for a DSLR anymore for most people.

    • @anecro

      I'd argue there's no point in making an entire video to come to a conclusion every person knows by default, so this is definitely a waste of time. It's comparing apples to oranges to see which one is "better", which is extremely vague and most of the time it's perceived as "looking better", in which case he's being straight up unfair to his expensive camera gear in order to draw in an audience and falsely convince them a phone is ok, even against this camera, which is unbelievably false.

  • @MarchalisVan
    @MarchalisVan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    1. He's selling the phone.
    2. The EOS R6 is a "full frame" camera so it will have way more depth of field blur, There are methods to deal with this, shooting up to F16 instead of F2.8, or you can image stack, which the camera should have a setting for? Or you can Stand back or zoom out then crop the image down to 12 megapixels (To match the phones 12 megapixels). The smaller the sensor the less depth of field, for better or worse, -cropping can help. You can also combine all the above options.
    3. The minimum of F2.8 on the lens used for the Canon, is not fantastic for night photography and far better lenses are out there for it with lower F stop or T value, with the down/up side being more depth of field blur in the dark.
    4. Mirrorless cameras with crop sensors exist, like APS-C and Micro four thirds cameras, however everything has pro's and cons. There is no perfect camera/lens that does everything.
    That all said, for most people the phone is probably fine if not better, unless you want good zoom, or real subject isolation, or if you need more pixels for your portraits etc for professional use, or if you want to have full control editing your shots, instead of having the phone plaster it's AI all over it :S.

    The biggest giveaway in all photos is the oversharpness on the s22 ultra. You should have pop it up a lil bit more in the r6 shots. Great comparision though, s22 is definately worthy.

    It’s really easy to distinguish which is which… the really heavy processed photos are taken with the s22 ultra. But it’s impressive how good they are.

I found the Pixel 6 to beat the normal S22 in every way! The different sensors on the Ultra must really make a difference! Awesome video Tom! 😁

    I have the best of both worlds, the s22u and the iPhone 13 pro max and I prefer the S22U. Did you take pics with the raw camera app and pro mode, both free from Samsung? Apple doesn't offer anything like that.

  • @hananas2
    @hananas2 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me the oversharpening instantly gives it away especially on every wide shot. I'm really interested to see what these pictures would look like without all that oversharpening, I bet it would be even more pleasing.

  • @ashyouknow7420
    @ashyouknow7420 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I have noticed that the S22U's photos are consistently sharper than the R6's but when I look at them side by side the Samsung's photos look a bit oversharpened though it is crazy how close the smartphones have gotten to pro cameras because of computational photography though R6 will destroy the S22U when it comes to video as the phone cannot process those many images at the same quality.

  • @Rayshader

    Samsung has a rich bias towards saturation with colours on the screen of the phones themselves. If you view the files via a calibrated monitor the same images appear quite differently actually. I prefer the latter. Most phones add sharpening which is a giveaway most of the time. If you have set the same f stop for both the cameras, I do wonder how the Canon stacks up at the corner details. I would strongly suggest using raw files. That's where the images truly shine. That said, camera within phones have come such a long way in the last decade.

    Dear Tom,
    Thanks for the video. I will have a question after a short text. With my hiking mate we like to take landscape photos, He has a Samsung A50 and I have a Canon EOS R. When he took photos at automatic mode and I took unedited photos with my camera. His photos were the winner. My question is: Is there any set of camera (body and lens) with unedited images that could beat the smartphone photos that are edited by AI?

    Since you've tested both the S22 ultra and pixel 6, which do you prefer and why ? Their processing are different so I'd tend to think that you would go for the more "natural-looking" one ! (but which one is it haha ?)

    i just finished a product shoot with this camera , with a quick link up to my lap top , editing on the phone , client could not tell the difference she was happy with results . improvements need to be made still as i found bottles etc slightly distorted for my taste .

    And what about filming? I'm waiting for my S22 Ultra and would like to use it as a studio camera. I would prefer the Sony ZV-E10 with a 10-18mm lens to get that wide, separate and blurry background effect, but I had to change my old Note 8 and my budget isn't unlimited. So I'll have to work with the S22 Ultra for the moment. I can't find any valid comparaison. If you could talk about that it would me amazing. Thanks!
