A live interview with Fareed Zakaria, the world renowned author, analyst and commentator, on Narendra Modi’s state visit to the USA. Is this really a “transforming moment”, as Defence Secretary Lloyd has claimed? How significant is the state banquet and second address to Congress? Will a deal to make jet engines in India herald a major shift in the defence relationship? Will Biden continue to overlook differences with India on Russian oil and the Ukraine war? Will pressure from the US media force the White House to publicly criticize India’s democratic backsliding and Hindu majoritarianism? And, finally, is the India-US relationship built on shared values or on economic and strategic convenience? If it’s the latter, what will happen when the US stops needing India? Tune in at 3.30 PM to hear Fareed Zakaria address these issues in a live interview.

Karan’s questions (in the 2nd part) had some negativity and skepticism due to his own bias and views. Zakaria was throughly professional, answered intelligently with excellent balance and pragmatism! Zakaria is a class when it comes to geopolitics!!

Awesome interview 👌Fareed stood his ground and didn’t take the bait from Karan and provided a good insight into the geo-political currents driving IN & US. As Fareed rightly pointed out the immediate catalyst i.e., China is drawing both the countries together but the people to people bonding factor is going to be the bedrock of this key strategic relationship. What we now need is export of Cricket from IN and American football to IN 😀
Even though I’m not a big fan of Karanji and his interviewing style, for this one interview I’m going to support KT Live.

A discussion between a Hindu Indian and an Indian Muslim American citizen, where the latter , if any, is prepared to concede that Hindus are tolerant but the former is not. The former is clear that the Indian Government is anti-Muslim, neither democratic, nor liberal and is virtually pleading with the latter to concede that America may need India but India is unreliable and opportunistic.
    Nowhere is either questioning
    a) How truly democratic America is (there are many who consider it a plutocracy)
    b) Racism in America
    c) The lies about WMD, leading to the war in Iraq, the killing of lakhs of people...the unleashing of ISIS
    d) Getting into bed with terrorist Pakistan..defending genocide of Hindus/Muslims in Bangladesh
    e) Getting into bed with Pakistan to use Jihadi terrorists from across the world to fight the Soviet Union
    f) Spending $2trillion over 20 years only to take away Afghanistan from the Taliban then shamefully return it, along with $80 billion worth of weaponry
    g) Keep its eyes firmly shut to jihadi terror unleashed by Pakistan in India
    h) The horrors it unleashed at Guantanamo Bay.
WHICH DEMOCRACY WAS DOING ALL THIS, WHILE MAINTAINING ITS RIGHT TO CALL OUT INDIAN DEMOCRACY FOR TEENY WEENY INFARCTIONS IN COMPARISON.

With China getting closer to Russia, India needs US to contain the aggressive attitude of China and to prevent the emerging bully in Asia..

US did not support Ukraine. NATO is also not supporting Ukraine wholeheartedly even refused to ad it Ukraine in NATO which was the irritating point on which the war began. Had NATO declared well in advance that Ukraine would not be in NATO, the war would have been avoided. Taiwan also would be in deep trouble if not a perfect balance and distance with US is not maintained. Advantage for US is that all wars are fought in other subcontinents

Why does this man keep visiting US at public expense from time to time? One who cannot discharge the basic functions of running a nation goes around travelling the world and enjoying the luxuries at the expense of the people of India, including the majority of over 70% of India's population that didn't even elect him to the office. In fact, he is trying to optimize the travel opportunities at public expense before his tenure comes to an end. That's why instead of even visiting a State like Manipur to find a solution for the peace of the State he is blithely touring the world.

Spot on! The man is heartless and evil! The suffering of the people in India is of little consequence to him. That was seen in his total disregard of the migrant workers during the COVID lockdown and now in Manipur, without overlooking the Bilkis Banu saga and the wrestler women's tribulations.

On India being a democracy :.
From being ' Democratic' with a Capital ' D' we are now ' broadly democratic' ( "an euphemism at best) .
    On Indo-US relationship :"
Ashley Tellis is spot on in his assessment : what India can deliver in return.
    A more pertinent question :
Can India ever be a bulwark against China,; that is the kind of bulwark the US wants it to be?

The Wire & Thapar as usual, true to its character, remained only concerned about internal issues of Indian democracy & modi bashing rather than focusing on India-US strategic & what opportunities this visit holds!!
Zakaria, whereas had no illusions about what Modi's state visit to US is mainly about! India & US binding on China & getting entwined for future geopolitical crises! Its a relation of necessity & pragmatism, in which internal matters/politics in individual countries matter least.
Once in a while, a publication has to come out of its propaganda house & see things as they're...for Real!
