A brilliant interview. Thank you, The Wire. Dr. Banerjee comes across as a man of great humility despite his extraordinary achievements and scholarship. Instead of belittling him and his work, the government and the country will benefit enormously if they listens to him carefully. It takes extraordinary amount pettiness to not celebrate the winning of the Nobel prize by a fellow Indian. The section about the impact of social media on the future of democracy as a political system is both edifying and frightening. I would like to complement Mr. Thapar for presenting great interviews one after the other.

I wish he had factored in some hypothetical scope for deliberate manipulation ... at least partition of the British ruled India was a definite manipulation to force all three countries that exist now to invest heavily into defence - I would prefer to call it constant war, there is no defence ... manipulation of US markets and consequently other markets too before 2008 led to what we call 'sub prime crises' ... the bloody 'libor scandal' was simple pickpocketing on a global scale ... and EVEN WITHOUT THE MANIPULATIONS Respected Nobel awardee Abhijit acknowledges that things are chaotic towards the darker side ... he says that the influence of social media scares him ... ).
Further the "developing economies" are even less predictable so intervention for improvement is very limited.
Kindly recall climate change is now established. No country or all countries together are not even doing a bit to repair.
Now let us put 2 and two together ... the solution seems to be mass population reduction. So please check how conflicts are generating and gathering momentum in various countries (except the developed economies) where weapons industry is the only party who is actually WINNING.
So please correct me if I am wrong in guessing that we will be using our tax paid money to mass reduce human population in developing economies and the problems of developed countries with respect to sustainable development or resources crunch or climate change get solved. And they will ensure that nobody uses nukes as the after effects of that stuff is beyond control.

Instead of belittling him and his work, the government and the country will benefit enormously if they listens to him carefully. It takes extraordinary amount pettiness to not celebrate the winning of the Nobel prize by a fellow Indian.
The section about the impact of social media on the future of democracy as a political system is both edifying and frightening.
