    I know there are only so many hours in the day, but with these similar devices I feel that a quick and dirty teardown could yield some further insight. You don't even have to film it, just let us know if one has better components than the other. That said, it's perfectly understandable you may not have the time to do this - and I guess you might not want to ruin these devices :) Either way, thanks!

    How does this year's Anker 100w 3-port charger compare to the 120w GaN Prime charger (Anker 737)? The 737 seems like it was the most similar recent charger to this current charger. I guess I was wondering if the improvements in technology of the charger make it less power strain on batteries that we are charging. Of course, everyone's needs are different, but I was wondering if this charger is worth getting.

    The only problem left with Rocoren now is the renegotiation every time something is plugged/unplugged vs when a device is connected to a cable. This is a big problem if you need the 100W power for a laptop and want to charge another device from time to time. You have to unplug the cable every time from the charger to go back to 100W single port delivery otherwise u'll be stuck at 65W even if not powering a 2nd device.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, the only one I've found that can deliver both is the 112 watt Belkin, which lacks a lot of PD modes, but it can do 100 watts to a USB C port and 12 watts to the USB A ports. So, it can at least power a couple things at once.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have heard of those brands. I think there is a limit on pricing for how low they go, some of the real cheap ones have to be old stock or they cut corners on the construction. In the first one, then it's a good deal, it's basically just an old model from someone else. In the latter, I would prefer not to use one myself.

    You really miss the point of the Anker power base here. Plugging Type C cords into ANY power bank or phone can wear out the port over time and, therefore, make the device unusable. By creating a base for its charger, Anker has solved that problem. Also, the base saves time. If you come home from a trip and need to charge your power bank, you simply set it on your 100W base and voila, you're charging. No getting out a Type C cable or putting a cable back after you are done. The base also gives you the convenience of multiple charging different types of accessories without pulling out your power bank. So having it on your desk is well worth the small space that it takes up. Really, it appears to be a genius idea in many ways. Further, if you are going on a trip and you want a 100W charger, the Anker power base is about the same size as many plug-in chargers, so you can substitute it for a plug-in charger. Granted you have to mess with the chord, but then that is a minor inconvenience and it gives you more flexibility when using it.
    I think the Anker base charger is a brilliant idea when paired with their Prime power banks. It's not designed to be a stand alone power brick as its main use. So you are kind of comparing apples to oranges.

      There are a couple of options, one is to go with a larger charger, like the 200 watt ones, expensive, or you can go with a really low power charger with lots of ports, which dedicates a few watts to each ports. Neither is really ideal. I'm sure something exists but I haven't found it yet.

      It'll charge but how fast is an unknown. It might only charge at 10 or 15W with that adapter since it probably doesn't have the PPS mode with enough power to do 33W. The cable is also an unknown, if it is non-emarked, it might not allow anything except the 5V mode with a PD compatible USB C port. I'm not too versed on the VOOC or similar type charging that is proprietary to those devices.

    • @tetyoonlee4373
      @tetyoonlee4373 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AllThingsOnePlace As I know someone who had a OnePlus phone I looked in to VOOC before. As I understand it, VOOC is somewhat similar to PPS in that to reduce heat they limit conversion happening on the phone by continually negotiating the voltage to be very close to what the cell needs for charging. The negotiation is proprietary although to be fair to one Oppo/OnePlus there was no PPS at the time. Since they reached the limits of what what current a cable could reasonably handle, they then moved on to multiple cells so they could increase charging voltage while still limiting conversion on the phone. At some stage they also introduced pulse charging. I think in theory at least, you can do most of what they do with VOOC with PPS now except that they use higher currents than PPS allows.

      There is certainly some variance. I’ve seen some people say they break in 10 minutes every time to they last years. There are obviously some less expensive options that may use lesser quality components and therefore they fail faster. I have yet to have one permanently fail.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it is safe. The device decides how much to use. I charge my phone with the 165W adapter and it only will pull the 18W it can use to charge. It is debatable on charging slower being a benefit, depending on what mode is negotiated for, but the actual evidence for this is very limited and speculative in many cases. The battery degrades on every charge/discharge cycle, the battery will degrade slightly faster if charged too fast or overheated or if too cold, lots of variables.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 100W Baseus should work for those devices, but only one at a time at full speed. The laptop is always questionable since sometimes they use a proprietary protocol, even if the port is the same, they make it not compatible with 3rd party power adapters. The Anker 100W prime, the wall version, is the newest and best tech out though, better renegotiation for devices versus the older Baseus devices. Baseus needs to update their 100W lineup for the USB side, the power supply technology is still great though.

    Just a question, is it ok to charge a phone even if its not capable of 100 Watts? Thank you and more power

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The phone decides how much power to draw. The power adapter may have 100 watts available but then the phone negotiates for how much power it actually gets. So, if it only needs 20 watts to charge it will only get 20 watts. The adapter won't force more watts in. Of course there are always exceptions like a failed device or a badly designed one but those cases are rare.

    I love your research work. But probably won't buy any of those and of course for good reasons. I am hoping you can find some none brand names but equal good products. After all we all have the same obsession about chargers and already have too many chargers sit around. 🙂 As I can see, there are three needs for PD Chargers. 1.) To charge phones/tablets. 2.) To Charge laptops. 3.) To replace many other DC Charger (with different Voltages). For the 1.) & 3.) I think 35W is plenty. (Do you really needs to charge phones and tablet so fast? That create heats that damage phone batteries. 2.) Majority portable laptops now is around 65W. 100W is really in an odd place. If I want to replace some powerful laptops, not so much portable, I need a 200W or 240W chargers. Low end 30W chargers is so cheap and so small, I don't have problem carry extra one just for phone/tablet, in addition to a 65W laptop charger or use my laptop to charge phones. And avoid re-negotiation issue. I have an "ASOMETECH 140W GaN Charger" I use it to charge my laptop of 90W (most of time just use 20W. For $33 a piece, I love it. I don't have equipment to test any other stuffs ( you can). I also own "PD 65W GaN Charger for Macbook iPad Laptop Tablet QC3.0 Fast Charge" for only $15, it does wonder and charges my 65W T580 and 65W X1 Yoga. I am now looking for a PD charger around 30W to replace modem, wife router and fans (to cool it down). All use 12V. I just don't see purpose of 100W.

    • @AllThingsOnePlace
      @AllThingsOnePlace  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah. I found that 65w adapters don’t negotiate well with several PD devices. I use all four ports in my 100w adapter regularly and everything charges at good speed. With a 65w adapter I have had some negotiation issues. I agree that the phone and tablet charging does not need to be so fast.

    • @from6454
      @from6454 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      On the safe side, 100W is a safe choice for 65W Laptop. I found 65W laptop using 65W only when laptop need to charge the laptop and using laptop. But of course, many 65W PD chargers do not really provide 65W.@@AllThingsOnePlace
