- Ardbeg has released their newest Committee release called Arrrrrrrdbeg! which is a single malt scotch matured in ex-Rye whiskey casks. Bottled at cask strength, this latest release pays homage to the recently retired Micky Heads, warehouse manager at Ardbeg for 13 years! His pirate themed label adorns the bottle and pays tribute to his contributions throughout the years. These bottles are generally priced at $180 and features a unique finish. Are they still worth that much money when compared to their popular core range releases! Let's find out on The Mash and Drum!

It's not about the whiskey, it's the people you share it with!

Really like your review; I'm a scotch guy who's falling into bourbon. I enjoy the Corryvreckan expression.
Bourbon is my first love. That being said when i started drinking Blantons was $39 a bottle and on every shelf in Indiana and now it and every other good bottle bourbon get hoarded. Now i tried Ardbeg Uigedal which is everywhere and I'm hooked, keep 3 bottles at all times.
I picked up the 10yr and Uigeadail recently but have yet to explore either. Might have to pick up a Corryvreckan as well just to try all 3. Thanks for blinding these 3 and giving us your notes on them! Cheers, Jason.
I would like to see Oogie blinded as A....and Corry as C. I am intrigued to see if Oogie comes out strong like Corry did, then Corry gets softer as a 3rd pour like Oogie did. The black pepper is strong on Corry for me. I always say Corry is like 1000 pissed off scottish hornets with flamethrowers. And Oogie is melted chocolate poured into a campfire with raisins sprinkled on top. LOVE the review Jason.
Thanks DC. I dont think Corry in that slot would have made much difference. That pepper spice on the Corry is so potent. The Oogie like you said...chocolate, raisin, campfire...but so rounded and softer on the finish.
@@TheMashandDrum Jason, thank you for the content and I enjoy your reviews and thoughts! One thing I think "whiskytubers" throw around is the use of the idea that something is being "blinded". I think once someone has become familiar with a bottle and already tasted it, you cant really "blind" it anymore. You actually would have to compare multiple whisky's blind before ever becoming familiar with them. Sort of like the aquavitae challenges....
@@Ryan-re3jf very true.
Grabbed two Arrrrrrrdbeg’s, one for drinkin and one for stashin. I kind of figured before I got em that they’d be way more collector then drinker. Ten-twenty years pull em out a hole. Cory is my favorite as well, but the whole core range is pretty fantastic. Thanks Brother good review, cheers 🥃
I agree with you on all your points; these releases are geared for collectors and stashing one away for a good while is a good idea. Cheers
Absolutely love Corryvreckan...more scotch reviews please Well done my friend Cheers!
Thanks for the honest review. I love Ugi and Corry! Cheers
Absolutely love Ardbeg, but it’s so hard to justify these releases. Corry is hands down my favorite. Just love the peppery smoky bacon note I get from it.
Great review of the new Ardbeg, Jason and the head to head with Ugie and Corry! I’ve never had Corry yet and it’s been at the top of to-buy list for awhile now, looking forward 😊🥃!
great review -- i've never had the pirate one but immediately knew from the color which one it was. Just looking at the colors you knew the pirate one was too light to be the uugy or the corry.
Well, you answered my question at the end. Thanks!
Love Corryvrecken! First time I had Corry it was one of those WOW moments. I'm an Ardbeg fan, but luckily ( for my pocketbook) not a superfan, Cheers!
Love the scotch reviews. Keep the great work Jason.
I find Ugie to be the most delicious but with such a high ABV I can only enjoy 3 to 4 drams. I can go for a while with the An Oa.
To be fair, for a young peated whisky, its not that easy to beat Corryvreckan. Credit to Ardbeg for putting it in their core range. Excellent work, my friend. Scotch industry needs ya 😉
Thanks Jason for the excellent Scotch review. I need to get the Cory next.
Thanks for the review. It shows that a strong core range can offer a comparable or even better value to limited releases. Though An Oa is my choice of Ardbeg, but with that distillery it's hard to find a bad bottle.
Great Review Jason - i really wanted the Arrrrrrbeg but couldnt justify the price. I also loved Dark Cove and enjoyed Drum even though most didnt. Cheers!
I've always preferred corryvreckan. Good choice.
Just bought an Uigeadail yesterday to start getting into scotch and now Jason is doing this review. Insanely coincidental timing
The Wee Beastie is absolutely delicious. If you haven’t tried you need too.
Love me some Wee Beastie. I like it more than the 10. I really appreciate the higher proof over the 10.
So glad I passed on this at $200.
More Scotch reviews ain’t a bad thing!
The corryvreckan is on my list for this year
Yesssss. So glad you’re doing more scotch reviews. More bourbon folks need to realize how great scotch can be.
Totally good to have single malts every now and then, looking fordward for more! Have you ever been able to get special releases in OH?
Awesome review👍🏻
Great review - thanks
Nice work! Ugi is around $100 in indiana and the Corry is $110... love em but it’s expeeeensive.
After spending $200 plus tax on the Arrrrrrrdbeg I was really hoping for something good ... at least better than the core range bottles but it was such a disappointment! Corryvreckan is still my fav Ardbeg!
Agree man!
I absolutely loved mine!!!
Its great on its own. Just doesnt stand up to the Oogie and Corvy to me. And for 200 dont think its worth it.
@@TheMashandDrum I agree, but I also appreciate the special nature of this bottle.
@@bourbonsanta For sure. Great tribute. Looks like the next bottle will have a 13 year age statement so Im excited about that.
@@TheMashandDrum Definitely!!!
We had a tasting of Ardbeg Wee Beastie and the An Oa on Saturday with their badass military truck. I have never liked peated Scotch but gave it another try, WB is smokey as fuck with An Oa closer to a bourbon, grabbed a bottle of the WB since we call our dogs Wee Beasties with the folks laser etching the dogs names on the bottle. The Arrrrdbeg sold quickly for us at $180d that it was gone in an hour.
Do you prefer the Ugi or the Cory? Have not tried either (no age statement).
I like the scotch reviews.
Can you please do the Kentucky Owl Rye Batch 4 review?
I see that SpringBank Local Barley back there. Great review, yes I love Islay Scotch but I don't buy the committee releases. I saw it for 500 at a local shop recently, no thanks!
Oh wow. 200 is too much already.
I spotted one of these on the store shelf a couple of weeks ago, I was tempted but I just don't spend that kind of money on whiskey.
Around a hundred is my limit.
It's damned hard to beat the Uigeadail for $70.
Agreed!
A hundred is also my limit. I've found that you can get a metric ton of great bottles under it.
And having that limit prevents me from overspending, no matter how tempting the bottle.
@@aragathor Exactly!
I feel like the Day releases are living off the reputation that some of the earlier releases set. Ardbog, Day, and Alligator all stand out to me as a different class to the more recent releases.
"I've been looking forward to this."
Corryvreckan is peak Ardbeg, it is in my top 3 whisky together with Laphroaig Lore and Octomore 10 year Dialogos.
Ardbeg Alligator are just amazing, but you can't go wrong with Corryvreckan or Uigedahl 🥃 slántie
The Arrrrrrrdbeg disappointed me, as have all committee releases after dark cove, I'm a committee member but still very hard to get the Cask Strength bottles, and the prooffed down are a sad experience
I was really not a fan when I opened the Arrrdbeg bottle. I didn't think to compare it to the core range, but it could not hold a candle to Dark Cove or even Blaaaack. Supernova is in a different category. I am not bothered by the NAS. Dark Cove is superb and carries no age statement. If it is great, I don't care what's in the bottle. This one just didn't do it for me. It sucks to pay $190 for a bottle and have it not be a hitter.
Yup!
No water?
II want someone to dip tasting notes while smoking a cigar... I feel like it's totally different...
Oh for sure. I like sweeter cigars with these smoky scotches
"What be a pirate's favorite Scotch"
I don't know...
"Arrrrdbeg!"
"What be a pirate's favorite restaurant?"
Arrrrrby's?
"T'would think it would be Arrrrby's....but actually it's Long John Silver's"
And a pirate's favorite letter? Ye might think it's ARRR, but's really the SEA.
Woooo
Drink up me hearties and yo ho!
NYC price for this is at $400 lol thats a hard pass for me.
very hard pass!
Thanks for the review and the taste. Hard pass ;(
yup
ARGH
Nope 👎🏻
It was 135 here but without an age and not knowing enough about it i had to pass with things like stagg jr 16 and blood oath 7 coming out. Rather save the money. That label was calling me but not strong enough
Good choice. Let me know if you see more of that blood oath.
@@TheMashandDrum havent seen any of the seven yet but i can keep you posted
Awesome review 😊
