      Actually it turned out range rovers aren't as unreliable as people say. It's an urban myth in a way. Given you don't service it at LR dealership. There is a lot of aftermarket parts that are really not expensive.
      Also at this point you don't have to replace every faulty sensor and stuff like that. I'm in the market for a proper 4x4 vehicle that I'll convert to an Overland vehicle. Range rover is second on my list. After VW Touareg

    • @Alexander_l322
      @Alexander_l322 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      @@SkywalkerPaul you should replace whatever goes wrong when you can as it always makes more sense then leaving it to the point where things mount up and make it half what a Range Rover should be and leaving you with a much bigger bill when you do get it all sorted. Cheaping out on maintenance is not right on something like a Range Rover.

    This era of Land Rover still look great today. They've aged well because of their box dimensions, it's a timeless design for a 4x4.
    I definitely prefer this squared off look. Modern SUVs have too many curves for my personal taste. I've got an 09 Disco 3 and I think it looks infinitely better than the 5

      See my comment. If you look after them and maintain them there isn't a problem. The problem is people buy them second hand and cheap out on the maintenance and care and then expect them to be trouble-free. They are like the my third wife - great to look at; go like they are in the 3.15 at Chepstow; great ride - but need washed once a week, lots of care, attention, love and a bit of money spent now and again to keep them happy and content.

      Agree but thats becuase it the one they are all trying to replicate, not the greatest by any means but they are very capable of road as well as being a luxury on the road, maybe not that sporty. It is still a Range Rover! The shape might look a bit old but if you look at an X5 or ML or Cayenne of the same age they look even more dated! The Supercharged is the one to have, I had one and the look on peoples faces on the motorway when you indicate to change lanes and you plant your foot in the carpet and take off! No one expects such a big lump to get a move on! The only downside is your bank manager will call you and tell you to stop it or he will take your house!

    This takes me back. I had a 3.6 TDV8 for five years. To be honest I really didn't spend a lot of money on it. I used a good independent specialist and kept up with the maintenance. It seemed that people on the online forums were pulling their hair out with all sorts of problems. I was very lucky I suppose, until I wrote it off back in January. Loved the driving position and the fantastic throttle response. It was a great car. Keep up the fantastic reviews, I'm off to watch the 911 review, always wanted one.

  • @michaelstormoen
    @michaelstormoen 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Your review was spot-on. I'm a big fan of this era and those 4.2 and 4.4 Jag engines. They are bulletproof if you keep up on the maintenance. In addition to your list of must-do items (trans, diff, etc.) I'd include replacing the grommets that take the water from the sunroof drain tubes out the front quarter panels. I've had these fail on three of my Rovers causing electrical damage when water accumulates in the rocker panels. Currently have a 2006 RR Sport, 2006 LR3, and 2006 L322 all with over 200K miles and they run great! Added bonus - the aluminum body panels still show no signs of rust! I'm nervous to step up to the 5L with the timing chain issues, but know that I'll likely go there someday... Thanks for the great review!

    Bought a 2007 4000 miles one owner, kept in a heated garage and rarely used, it's just 3.0 diesel but I had remapped, now gives me 12mpg more. The reason these engines come out of the factory detuned is that they are sold all over the world and their engines are expected to perform in places where fuel and oil could be significantly inferior, therefore it's deemed necessary not to extract every last bit of power out of it. Here in the UK these restrictions can safely be lifted.

    I have a 61 plate HSE in Black with the 5.0 litre Supercharged V8 - 503hp/510ps. It feeds on Shell V-power and pulls like a train. Being a later model has much upgraded interior. Mine has now done 59k and always been very reliable, regularly serviced by JLR. The only issue has been a new suspension compressor a few months ago - no complaints for a 10year old car. Very comfortable, very practical and soothing to drive - a gem on long motorway journeys and as Mat suggests fuel consumption on such journeys a respectable mid-20s....and when you need to overtake....it absolutely flies with great V8 sound track and supercharger pulley whine....a little too addictive..😉 Highly recommended...

    I have a 2006 RRS with 200,000 kms on it. Apart from the small problems (mostly electrical) like headlight washer and windshield washers failing, I’ve had no major problems. My 2nd hand buy was original other than 22 inch RR Rims that look really good.Its not super great on fuel mind.. $170 for a full tank, gets around 400KM the New Defender gor over 800km on a $170 tank.

    The 4.2 might be surprisingly reliable. I assure you the 5.0L V8 (i guess in the later generation, or at least, for the North American market) is anything but reliable. The timing chain has a nasty habit of breaking down in a v v high % of these engines, and that isn't just a quick fix, I remember the dealership quoting me $8,000 for that job, out of warranty of course. Also the superchargers are weak and, depending on how you treated the car, need a complete overhaul/replacement in some as well. Overall though, yes it's a beautiful beast, just a very maintenance-plagued one.

    I live in Doha Qatar and have both a 2008 LR3 HSE 4.4 V8 and a 2013 Range Rover Sport 5.0 V8 Supercharged. The LR3 has had a lot of work done over the years but nothing major and she has 175,000km. The RR has 87,000km now and apart from a few hoses replaced, again nothing serious. I don't go anywhere near the Main Dealer - they know nothing and are totally useless - I use a small LR specialist garage who knows these things inside out and can actually REPAIR them properly; first time; every time. Brilliant vehicles.

    The 2.7 is fine for hauling around a Peugeot 407 Coupe or a Citroen C5, but they're 700+ kilos lighter and don't have the aerodynamics of a brick. The 2.7 was actually in a detuned state in the Range Rover Sport, having 188 bhp instead of 202, so that can't have helped. The 3.0 is a revision of the 2.7 but tons better in every way, and I think it's still in use today in some form.
