    I'll always love this game. There's something about lengthy side scrollers that start happy and tropical that gradually go to harsher and darker environments as the levels progress that will always appeal to me. It always feels like a grand adventure.

      All the donkey kong SNES games did that right. The worlds at the end were always horror themed.

    • @BB-te8tc
      @BB-te8tc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd argue the first DKC didn't necessarily end on a "horror" note but it went from sunny jungles to snow to factories to a world consisting entirely of dingy caves and mines so in a sense it had that light to dark progression, and the sudden shift to "pirates" at the end is a jarring but not unwelcome change.
      The 2nd and 3rd game though? Absolutely. If we ever got another DKC in the vein of the first three, K. Rool would have to take on the guise of another horror trope. Perhaps space horror a la the Alien movies?

      Ah, *_"Joe & Mac: Caveman Ninjas"_* . I always liked this game as a kid, and I still think that it is a fun little game. I had the superior Genesis version of this game growing up. It was super fun to play this either solo or with a friend. The graphics were appealing to look at, the music was catchy (despite there only being 3 tracks in the Sega version), the weapons & bosses were cool, and the core gameplay was just awesome.
      You're beating the ever-living sh#% out of everything that stands between you and the ultimate goal of saving your kidnappped babes. 😁 Sounds like a winner to *_me!_*
      As for the other games, I liked *_"Congo's Caper"_* on _Super Nintendo_ and I prefer it over SNES *_"Joe & Mac"_* . That's about it. I haven't played *_"Joe & Mac 2: Lost in the Tropics"_* on SNES.
      Oh, and don't even get me *started* on the confusing, nonsensical title of the American version of the game. It's *_"Joe & Mac 3: Lost in the Tropics"_* .
      That's like if they made *_"Home Alone"_* , then *_"Honey, I Shrunk the Kids!"_* , but calling it *_"Home Alone 2"_* , _THEN_ , the *REAL* *_"Home Alone 2"_* but calling it *_"Home Alone 3"_* !!
      POSITIVES
      • *Good Graphics* (Looks just as colorful as the Arcade version of the game.)
      • *Good Music* (Unlike the Genesis version, there's *_7_* songs here. And they're all pretty good. My favorite being the music from the ice level.)
      • *Tight Controls* (The rolling move is a bit loose since it's activated via a double tap on the D-Pad, but otherwise, no problems here.)
      • *Diverse Weaponry* (You got your standard affair of weapons to pick up in this game. A crappy club, some boomerangs, bones, a club that shoots fire, and a wheel. You know... like *every* platformer with projectile attacks.)
      • *Diverse & Fun Bosses* (Sure, you fight a T-Rex to start off, but you later fight a Velociraptor, a mammoth (😒 I'm sure PETA *_loves_* _this_ fight), dolphins, some weird plant thing, and dinos that have lazy circular balls for a body... several of them. Each of these fights are so much fun to defeat.)
      NEGATIVES
      • *No Charge Attacks in the SNES version* (What a letdown this is. In other versions of this game, you have ability to charge your weapons for a devastating attack that is incredibly useful for boss fights. Not having that ability on the SNES just artificially lengthens boss fights by a couple minutes. And yes, it's as lame it sounds.)
      • *2P Super Game* (Talk about a pointless addition! There's no real difference between the different 2 player modes other than Jumping on the other player and "friendly fire" in the "Super" mode. That's it! Again, pointless.)
      Final Rating: 8.9/10
      I don't think that it's as good as the Arcade and Genesis versions, but *_"Joe & Mac"_* on Super Nintendo is still a great game.
      Especially with a friend.

It was so nice to be able to collect a new weapon power up and not have to read text on how to use it, or be forced into a tutorial (remember when games had a separate tutorial mode?). Joe & Mac also features other things like hilarious expressions and fun character design, with lovingly drawn sprites (check out those really wicked awesome bosses!).

    Im 30, i remembered watching my cousins played this game when i was 3 or 4 years old. Ive been trying to figure it out what game it was,all i remember was the 2nd level and fighting those plants. For some weird reason i saw a gamestop ad promoting this game but the remastered versión for ps5 and the screenshots were about the 2nd level lol now i need to buy it

      You started playing in a great console.
      And then you could appreciate a big part of the evolution of the videogames, and have a more complete visión about it, than someone starting with a PS2, 3 or something.
      I feel lucky because I could see that evolution from the NES, Master System, the Arcades, and everything after, but l still love those old systems, because l lived the evolution during the lifetime of each console, and how the developers were contanstly pushing the limits of every hardware, and how each generation helps to put the bases of the next one.

    I've been stuck against the boss "T-Rex" for 2 days now, it's mind-blowing. Its health bar seems never-ending, and I feel like I'm not doing any damage to it. It takes so long to defeat it, what a nightmare.
    What are the differences between the weapons "the wheel / the balls fire," "bones," and the boomerang? Are they particularly more powerful than each other or not?

    I beat this and was the most easiest game ever even beating on hard mode too. Honestly I like this one better than the arcade, though the genesis is the same as the arcade just weird textures. Both of them are great and so original but the reason why the SNES is better (in my opinion) because the gameplay, different levels or some extended levels straight off from the arcade, and it's own original adventure game than a copy cat like the Genesis.
    Oh also I never played the original arcade until years later of emulators and got older I bought a Switch and bought two digital games for like 8 dollars each it's Caveman Ninja and Metal Slug 3(though Metal Slug 3 was my first Switch game I played well not really since I first played on Xbox360.). The best part about the SNES was the Ice Cave level, T-Rex's insides, and also the final devil boss (which is weird) though the true form of a blue demon wasn't good I thought he be something more ferocious or sort of like a scary beast creature but no just same form and color change to blue. So yeah still have the copy of the game and still awesome to this very day.

    I love the original arcade version, but the SNES version is bigger and better, with a superior soundtrack and incredible audio unlike any of the other conversions! 🙂 For me, this is the ultimate Caveman Ninja game. The ONLY negative is it doesn't feature the arm-spinning power-up, which is a real shame.

    • @VahanNisanian
      @VahanNisanian 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      But the world map is smooth and fluid. Yeah. Don't know what they were thinking with 20fps for everything else.

    • @NintendoComplete
      @NintendoComplete  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I dunno, I never noticed it too much. If that is going on, it's certainly nothing like D-Force (which iirc scrolls its backgrounds at 60fps but only updates its sprites at 20fps - it looks and feels pretty bad). You sure you aren't just noticing how limited the animation is? It was shoehorned into an 8 meg cart, so compromises had to be made for sure.

    I'll give the game credit for the music and graphics but gameplay wise..it's just so so, they excluded the charge attack but to compensate for it you now have a weapon select thing going on. Second is their idle animation is just one frame of the walk cycle. The actually stand properly if you throw a projectile upwards
    at least the wheel is still op here, not as good as the arcade but there's still some fun to it
