Ultimately, the first person who opens their mouth sets the tone for the rest of the group just as in a marathon the lead runner's set the pace for the rest following group. I have to give Gavin credit for being an effective leader here. Zune was a mediocre too-little-too-late attempt at an MP3 player, so its sins are funny and serve as a good case study in product development but ultimately harmless in real world living. Apple Maps was a disaster early on due to inaccurate navigation and lacking features, which is more impactful to real world living (especially if you live outside the USA; reportedly other countries STILL don't have a great time with Apple Maps).

To be honest, I actually thought Zune was pretty good. The problem was it came out 2 years after the IPod Touch - and it wasn't really better. By that time Apple had a lot more apps - in this case not being first to market was Microsoft's fatal error

@thevoxdeus I think that Samsung note would be a bad benchmark here because these are products that were bad hence which caused a poor reception. The note was a good phone with a bad battery.

At least Apple fixed the maps after a few years. But Microsoft erased all traces of Zune after a few years and pretended it never happened.
To be honest, I actually thought Zune was pretty good. The problem was it came out 2 years after the IPod Touch - and it wasn't really better. By that time Apple had a lot more apps - in this case not being first to market was Microsoft's fatal error

Zune was actually pretty good. The design was slick and classic. You could import any music from your Windows computer. Not a single bad thing about it.
