How a box is designed in Silicon Valley. All videos were encoded using Pied Piper's lossless compression algorithm, and were verified to have a Weissman score of 5.2. From HBO's Silicon Valley
I like the design guy. If I got the opportunity to spend an hour discussing design aesthetics with a designer I would be thrilled. What a fun way to break up the day. What a change of pace!
We had someone like that once try to do our UI designs. They are a waste of money. Marketing loves them but all they want to do is their own design instead of functionality or even basic user testing.
@@LowKickMT Yes!! Its creators are geniuses. Compared to most shows produced these days, this is a true masterpiece. I wish there were more shows like this.
I love that the show was fair to both sides. That design branding people can be ridiculous. But also the baine of design people's existence, having no one give enough input, but then criticize and have opinions come out after the fact.
100% agree. "Design it however you think looks best...well, not like THAT" Or they ask you to design it "in your style" and you have to explain why that style doesn't make sense for their purposes.
@GrandTerr sure, it was a silly process but Richard shut it down without even giving it 10 min. Then gets mad and upset crying about people not caring about thier for getting exactly what he asked for. this is actually a great summary for why Richard is always miserable in the show, lmao and why he struggles to be successful for so long because he's his own worse enemy
Tbh the first Piper box does give off the energy of a boxed turtle. And the second design with the ventilation holes in the front, reminds you of the patterns on a jaguar or cheetah. On top of that Dan did make it a black box with lights on it as requested. Dan is a great designer. …And then cut to Dan recycling the unused designs for Gavin’s box 3 😂
Ya know, never thought of this before, but - I think I should sign my signature from now on. In fact, I think I should sign my signature with Banksy's signature! And, also make it so that anything signed that way will spontaneously destroy itself if it is ever sold at auction!
Jean: “The signature displayed troubling traits…characterized by… an inability to accept bad news.” Gavin: “Get this horrible woman the fuck out of my office NOW.” 4:37
OMG that was funny.....".in a sub basement in a data center where no one can see it but a sad man named john a guy with a pony tail." I think i know that guy
This brings back memories of me *designing a box* for three years at a EV charging station company. Our CEO was a little out of his depth so every time we'd go through the whole cycle of design requirement capture, PDR (primary design review), CDR (critical) and FDR (final), as soon as we hit a big issue (e.g. difficult to install for electricians, difficult to cool electronics inside, easy to steal, not waterproof to IP 67 ect), instead of focusing on solving it he'd come up with a new sketch and ask us to start again from scratch, go through the entire cycle again. we've probably built 20 different versions in 3 years. I didn't mind at first cus it was almost free money but after a while even we were getting sick of it so the whole design team left one by one
So behind the scenes of the show - did they also have several designers, creative managers and focus groups to present and pitch all of the designs and signatures seen here?
I've cultivated experiences with backgrounds in graphic design and Help Desk. Now in advertising so this video ticked off so many boxes with what I use to and will endure.
I remember reading a post the outlines how realistic the designers method was and why it's used. In short, anyone can just rip off someone else's design and change things. And it's very hard to define a vibe or direction you want for a product's look. So you need to give the designer a selection of ideas and images so they can make something that reflects that
It's hilarious because as absurd as the designer Dang seems, I found myself agreeing with him. If you can't get your client's vibe early on, they are bound to complain later that you didn't read their mind.

Yeah if you don't give a crrr about your time or the product or your knowledge standards

And look how ignorant Richard is : )
This but unironically
This whole series is a masterpiece.
its by far the best that ever happened to tv
i watched the show 5 times already

I just realized how they threw Jean, the girl reading the report from the handwriting expert, so hard under the bus lmao
I always thought she was the handwriting expert until I realised later that she was just reading the report 😂
One of My Best Fav Scene is this The Girl Reading the Handwriting Report to Gavin 🤣🤣
I always felt bad for that dude
nah, this dude is a joke
why lol. he made so much money designing a black box and these imbeciles paid for it.
Richard acting like the worst client imaginable.
Really? That guy wanted him to watch African Savannah with tribal music and he's bad? Ok
Yeah the designer should have told him to GFY and left.

"This is all kind of a joke to you"
*pushes way too hard on the chair, not realizing how good the casters roll in the boardroom*
😅

Whoever actually designed GavinB is a fucking master mind in design!
They threw that handwriting chick under the bus so badly. A perfect approximation of corporate America.
She was just reading a report aswell
@@michaeljones5681 yeah but for a egomaniac they can't handle bad news even if its true
in what world does a signature have a signature on it? so great
On what planet

GavinB LMFAO
did they name him this from the beginning just for this joke?
man i hope so haha
I don't think so. This was Season 5 i think.... This was natural
Best was at the end - Yes it does from Hoover with a dead eye stare 😂
Tbh the approach of the designer is pretty cool I get it
Inability to accept bad news.
One of many Bichard times
