    The most comprehensive explanation that I have found on the internet. I appreciate you for what you do.

      I’ve watched a few of your other videos to, any recommendations for leaking exhaust manifolds? I can share a video with you of how bad they smoke.

    Thanks for this! Getting ready to stab a new distributor that’s part of the Hamilton setup into a fresh 392 in our ‘72 Travelall. I’d read the procedure in the book, but this helped solidify my understanding.

    Thank you I just did head gaskets on my 1964 international with the 304 and took the distributor out and am having a extremely hard time and it would not start and kept shooting fire out of the exhaust. I’m going to do exactly what you did after work today and hopefully get it running again. Thank you

    thank you for clearing up what cylinder to time to.

  • @kennethrobinson11231
    @kennethrobinson11231 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Now lets talk about something that all Holley distributors have trouble with. It's full total timing. They advance way to much far and cause preignition in the combustion chamber. In turn this will create 3 to 4 more times cylinder temperature. That will cause valve seats to come out of the head, and it can burn a piston, or expand the piston and scare the skirt and the cyl walls. This was a common problem. 90% of engine failure was due to this one thing. So check your total timing. You check it with the vacuum line off. What happens is the centrifugal weights and the pins they mount to wear and that let the weights advance to far. I have seen new Distributors out of the box that advanced to far. Now if you can find the old AC Delco dis from the early 60's, get it. It will have a oiler tube on the side of it. They never wear out and never give trouble. Ck your books for the total timing degrees and keep an eye on this. I'm thinking 32 degrees total. That after you set the initial on 0.

      Good point, but a conversation for another video perhaps. The sole purpose of this video was to demonstrate initial install only.

    So unlike a Chevy the rotor points straight towards the radiator? On a Chevy the rotor points to #1 cylinder. This points straight forward, not towards the #8 cylinder?

    • @OldIronOffroad
      @OldIronOffroad  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct. It is worth mentioning the rotor can technically point anywhere as long as you start your firing order with number 8 wherever it is pointing

    Hello, sir. By any chance, does this engine require a fan clutch for the radiator to cool? I appreciate your answer thank you

    • @OldIronOffroad
      @OldIronOffroad  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @vegitoblue7908 no fan clutch on the 800s. Fan clutch was an option on later SCOUT IIs but not required. A direct drive fan works fine.

    • @OldIronOffroad
      @OldIronOffroad  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@vegitoblue7908 A fan clutch isn't designed to improve cooling. It is designed to reduce drag on an engine when the fan isn't needed. That being said no it won't improve anything and I think you will find there isn't enough room for one anyway.
