    Ok A dynamic deflection in the system causing is causing valve bounce, and while tighter springs are a way to overcome this issue (damage from the loss of contact is worse than the extra wear from bigger springs), its not correcting the cause of issue.... So yes the lifters do over adjust and hold the valves open when they bounce! so its a real thing that happens but "lifter pump-up" referred to an early debunked theory of other causes, not what I meant! ...You can shim the springs so they are about to bind at full lift as well.....

      @@TEN-TIMES-HARDER first time finding your channel. My dad grew up on a farm, wouldn't have any tractor if it wasn't red. Only knew a little 'bout the trucks. The last few years I started sharing with him everything I could read about the Diamond engines, green, silver, blue,red, & that goes way, way back, gosh there were some small ones in the beginning. He knew a little more about the v8s. I've seen guys on tv say, back when International built pickup trucks, you knew that was a TRUCK. Early 80s when I was a kid, he had an International pickup truck, don't know the year, but probably '60s, maybe early 70s. Don't remember if he said 304 or 345. What he did love retelling about that truck was there was an option for dual batteries. On a gas engine. Didn't have it, but there was room for it, he bought the parts and cables needed and put in the 2nd battery same as if it came new that way. Brutal & long Nebraska winters back then (b. 1974, I remember), he had a guy at work ask for a jump. My dad told him,no problem,we'll get it started. The guy said, you're pretty confident. When he popped the hood the other guy said "oh, this thing has 2 batteries?" (On a gas light duty truck) my dad, r.i.p. ,loved telling that story 🙂 I look forward to learning all I can about these engines from you by watching your channel. Like I said, in many ways came from an IH family, but up til now, I know little about the IH gas engines. Not anymore, 👍

    You 4 got to mention the valves are very dangerous. Sodium filled. Which really worked good back in the day. P.s. my father was a IH mechanic. He bought a 75 scout new with 304. I watched the odometer roll 3 times around and never had the valve cover off of it. Sold it in 94, guy totally restored it. Hi from canada Ontario.

    Back in the early 80s I had a scout with a 345. My first 4x4. I loved that thing!!! It would go anywhere and leave jeeps in the dust or mud. I once raced a buddy who had 78 camero,he never stood a chance!!! 1st.gear low range you could pull a utility pole out of the ground. It had factory A/C that was cold!!! I retrofitted an electric bench seat out of an olds 88. It was like a couch! It was a little too wide for a scout but all was good you just had to slam the doors shut lol !! Of all the vehicles I’ve owned and I’ve had plenty, that’s the one I wish I still had!!!!😢

      Quick question. I have a 1961 inline 6 cyl gas international 2 single barrel carburetor bus. The crankshaft nut is enormous. I need know what size socket it takes before i go back and to make multiple trips. It spins around to one spot that doesn't allow a full 360 revaluation. I had to find this out the first time with a screwdriver on the flywheel... i really don't want to do that again

    I don't know if you're the right guy to ask some dumb questions I may have. To preface this, I am a 54 year old man who has now been turning wrenches for thirty years, for Ford dealerships since 2000. I have a soft spot for IH Loadstar 1700 trucks. The reason? I remembered the sound of those engines in the school buses I rode in were my favorite, compared to the sound of the Ford and Chevy school buses of similar era. My research shows that the IH Loadstar of the mid to late 70s in school bus application was most likely powered by a 345 V8. I remembered the transmission shift pattern on the IH buses being 1st, 2nd and 4th being the top row of gears from left to right. And the bottom being R, 3rd and 5th from left to right. 1st gear was never used. I remember the IH buses had a very distinct "whine" sound to them if that makes any sense. I do notice that the 304/345/392 engines are used in the IH Scout trucks as well. Is there anything different about these engines versus the same ones used in Loadstar applications? Would you happen to have an idea of what transmission model I'm referring to by what I've described above? In school bus application, there was no red button on the shifter, so it was just a straight five speed with 1st and 2nd gear on the top row of the shift pattern. I have a stupid fantasy of buying a Loadstar truck equipped identically to what a school bus would have, in order to be able to relive the memory I had of the sound. I know it sounds stupid, and probably is stupid.

    • @TEN-TIMES-HARDER
      @TEN-TIMES-HARDER  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      hell yeah right now im almost done with my 71 metro! Thats a clark transmission, and the only diference in the small truck engines is they had a smaller fan, the timing gear is retarded 4 degrees for emissions, and they didnt have the governed distributor/carb setup....
      the direct gear drive camshaft makes that noise...
      loadstars are awesome!
      And not at all stupid!
      These things are time machines, I get more joy out the people who get lit up with good memories than driving it sometimes!

Im selling it to a highscool kid to take care of, i got it when i was 17 and hot roded that thing for 10year solid, only had to change the engine out once and only lost the hood once, i recomend hoodpins if your gonna go fast but being so nostalgic i just could never drill random holes in the hood for that, not gonna happen.

    • @TEN-TIMES-HARDER
      @TEN-TIMES-HARDER  ปีที่แล้ว

      port them heahs like i do in the engine rebuild video, and will flow like afrermarket race heads with only one restriction well 2, to overcome, first is easy higher lift cam.
      Now the only issue is the way the exhaust flows around the valve,
      , even with unshrouding that area on other engines the part if the valve near the wall dosnt flow much, but its still some. ours has a second issue though in this regular low flow area,
      the valve is open and its up against the reliefe cut out in the cylnder head area, so there is a tiny corner not alowing air to go past, thats why they have the weird piston like in the dome its not a valve reliefe its st swoop it out the valve sideways like it was a flathead lmao
      so with more lift and a lil unshrowdimg that i will demo on the 392 build, ill dyno that and flow bench the heads just for sake of youtube lol

    • @TEN-TIMES-HARDER

      it was the thermo quad that warped... Best carb to run on these engines is the Holly Truck Avenger 470cfm 4bbl. they are designed for truck type low rpm power. while you can get a larger 4bbl to work, its very tricky because any other 4bbl besides the truck avenger is designed to open the rear barrels at about 4,000 rpm, and thats the redline for our applications, the truck avenger will open the rears sooner so your actually using all 4 barrels!!! make sure you get a non governed distributor to work with the non governed carb!!! funny thing is most the 4bbl manifolds where dealer swapped off the loadstars and put on scouts so its very possible you should have had a 4bbl to start with! and the factory 4bbl where only 390 cfm but good luck finding one...

It has a 392, 4 b holley and non-improved cooling. Someone told me when I take it apart to see why its locked up, that I should put 345 heads on it to increase the compression. Do you agree and what heads do you recommend? And what is the best way to recognize those heads? Or should I just stay with the stock heads? And there is a company that makes roller rockers for these engines. Do you recommend those? My goal is first a very dependable engine, not a racer, and secondly the engine as economical to run as possible. Intended truck use is primarily as an on and off-road wilderness camper.
    Thank you for these videos.

      well stick with stock, i have videos on rebuilding them on my page, so it has been proven that roller rockers do not show any gains unless we are talking dragster, they can actually decrease your performance on the street...
      you can as i show because of the new gaskets are thicker, if you deck the heads .020 you wind up like it was only decked .007"....
      so if you want to go any further you will need a rocker tower shim kit or shorter push rods....
      im about to rebuild a 392 in a couple months where im going to do a crazy head job to get them to flow like they can

      @@TEN-TIMES-HARDER Thank you for your reply - very helpful ! I'm hoping I can get by with no machining work needed and find somewhere a set of OEM steel head gaskets. There's not a machine shop within a hundred miles of my city. Because I'm the one who locked it up, I know it was not over-revved or have anything major broken in it. When I first got the truck it started and ran very smoothly, like you would expect an engine with only 15k miles on it. So I never actually drove the truck but immediately let it idle to burn out any moisture that might have accumulated in the engine over the years and to warm the oil before I changed it. After a few minutes of idling, the engine began to slow down. It showed good oil pressure so I gave it more gas but it continued to slow down. No unusual noise. It finally stopped and now a breaker bar could not turn that engine. My guess is the cam bearings delaminated, spun and locked up the engine. Your thoughts? And is there anywhere I can connect the oil pressure gauge to the top end of the engine?
      BTW I put a question on your steering shaft video. Thank you for your help.
      Just curious, what state are you in? I'm in Comiefornia. Unfortunately no one around here has any interest in IH. But it was worse when I lived down south. I went into a auto parts store to get some basic part. (I had a '62 Travelette I had to sell for financial reasons). When I needed a part for my International the person behind the parts counter actually said "International, what year Ford is that?"

      mill the intake manifold flat so that a webber 2bbl carb adapter plate can be bolted on, and now you have a 2bbl that progressively opens like a 4bbl... most people use jb cold weld instead of a gasket...
