I suspect Odin was only able to do that while he was still the Allfather wielding the power of King of Asgard. If Thor had been crowned king and Allfather, Odin could no longer wield the power of Asgard against Thor. Only a king of Asgard has the power to strip power and exile Asgardians.

It could have also been a contingency plan for Hela too, not just Thor. Hela would have been released when Odin died. He might have commissioned the creation of Storm Breaker to defeat Hela if she became a threat. A plan where you wouldn't have to destroy Asgard. Lol.
I think the right person who should possess Stormbreaker as a contingency plan to take out Thor has to be Beta Ray Bill. If Thor's lust for battle threatens the universe, Beta Ray Bill will have to be the one to fight him.
And take the throne bc beta ray bill is supposed to be a good at heart warrior, so totally plausible and with him making a live action appearance we might ge that explanation, going deeper into thor's mythos.
This was my thought and why I looked in comments. If Odin had met Bataray in the past. Had Trusted him with the use of Mjlinior , Bill has the chance to leave but returns it ( Has an adventure on Sakar why his "Thor Powered Self" is pictured on the tower. So Odin had stormbreaker made for him should he need it for any reason. He would have someone he could trust with that power.
I agree with you because in Marvel Comics stormbreaker was originally made for Beta Ray Bill because Thor needed mjolnir so the best way to help Beta Ray Bill without giving mjolnir permanently or temporarily is to make another weapon which was none other than stormbreaker so your comment is different from comics but I agree with you because it makes sense. Also beta Ray Bill is the right person to possess stormbreaker because he is worthy. Speaking of worthy stormbreaker does have a worthiness enchantment in Marvel Comics. Love the way what you say makes sense. Nice to meet you. Also Your comment felt different because you say Beta Ray Bill would help in the contingency plan but in Comics he was just trying to survive and protect his people. Beta Ray Bill in comic book was not involved in contingency plan because he never knew about Odin before meeting and fighting Thor
I mean it makes sense. Storm - “breaker”. Thor is the God of Thunder and uses thunderstorms for more power. The weapon is literally built to, *break* the storm. Or maybe I’m high and this comment doesn’t matter.
Makes more sense this way. When a Storm stars it's commonly said there's a storm breaking. There for calling it storm breaker is just saying it helps Thor create and channel much bigger storm's
But this makes no sense. Odin literally can just strip him of his power. He literally did. Eitri also straight up said it was a coronation gift for Thor. Plus I doubt that Odin would end his own line. Considering his line are the most powerful asgardians and would greatly diminish Asgard’s power without one of them being alive
@@yoboyrob201 if its a full powered Odin vs thor Odin wouldn't be able to strip him of his powers. In fact he never stripped him from his powers it was just his hammer.

Eh. I think it would have been made for Thor’s ascension to the throne. It would have been a symbol of his rule, like Odín’s staff. It wouldn’t have been crafted while Odín was still king of Asgard. Mjolnir was the weapon of a prince, stormbreaker is the weapon of a king.
The same thing happens in thor vs hulk animated movie, I am not sure about the comics but they should have kept it that way in the movies, it would have been more interesting.
We see Bor using the spear Gungnir in battle, so I propose that the weapon was commissioned by Bor for Odin to use, but it was never made because Bor died in battle and passed on the spear after Stormbreaker's cast was made but before the dwarves had a chance to forge the uru.
Nah I think Odin Protected the Dwarves and they got killed when he was in the Odin sleep when Loki Ruled. Odin had a fake infinity Gauntlet and possessed the space and reality stones and most likely knew where the time stone was as well. But the Power Stone, Mind Stone and Soul Stone he stopped seeking after learning the nature of the Soul Stone. He probably had Mjnoinor commission for sure though and probably gave that to Hela and took his Father's Spear again. He choose to live out his Final Years in Peace rather than War very smart honestly Asgard and his Family all died within 10 years from Thor - Thor Ragnarok so he is Partying in Valhalla 🎉🎉🎉👑
If a particular kingdom is using your community to build weapons, you're sure as hell going to build a weapon powerful enough to defend your community should that kingdom turn its back on you. Never give your buyer/patron all the leverage, even if the relationship is good.
I like this idea! My only question is how did Thor know about the location and design of the weapon if it was built to be used against him? Perhaps Odin told This after he learned humility.
He knew where his weapon was built but never knew about Storm Breaker. He only went to Nidavellir for a new weapon because Dwarves were known to have crafted the weapons of the kings of Asgard.
@@anubhavpal5782 Thor always thought his power came from his hammer. When Odin made him feel like he wasn't worthy of wielding Mjolnir, He felt powerless. @@nihaljaiswal4869 same reason he felt powerless after losing mjolnir, of course he loved the hammer but it was his identity and what he believed to be source of his power which is why when he finally got them fr, he became op. Honestly, the theory makes sense all the way from the name itself "stormbreaker" to him not being told of his true power until odic felt Thor was truly humble, and another guy said beta ray Bill would be the one to wield stormbreaker which also makes sense.
The dwarf said "it was fit for a King". What if this statement was looked at from a different perspective. Instead of being FIT for a King to use, it actually meant the weapon was Fit to kill a King.
A lot of what I've seen on here gave me doubts, but this one is a nearly perfect theory. I knew if I kept watching you would give me a good one. Great job brother. Oh, I only say nearly perfect because I believe Odin had faith in Thor up until he provoked the Frost Giants. Odin said he was a fool or blinded to the fact that Thor wasn't ready for the throne. If anything StormBreaker was a contingency for Hela or Surtur. Odin didn't mention it at the end of his life because he probably already knew Thanos had already been to visit Itri.
I could see it more likely it was commissioned by Loki when it was posing at Odin. His pride and ego would lead him to thinking he deserves that weapon but he wasn't "Odin" long enough to see it's completion
Considering that the first Thor movie demonstrated Odin's ability to strip Thor of his powers, and the subsequent movies show how little understanding of his own powers, I fail to see why such a contingency would even need to exist. In my estimation, it's more reasonable to believe that the dwarves of Nidavellir crafted the mold to be ready to make a weapon to kill Odin and to give to the leader of a coup(who would become the new king of Asgard), should Odin ever turn back to his old ways.
It fills in blanks of Odin the All Father's story as a whole, making his charactor more complex in the MCU. It does make sense that Odin saw Hella 2.0 early on in Thor and realized he needs a way to put this one down so he went to Eitri. With how Loki is dealt with as a "son of Odin" it's reasonable to believe he has had that approach on all of his children (by blood and adopted) since locking Hella away knowing what could come to be once again.
I didn't know that stormbreaker amplified his power but that does explain the weird lighting that surrounds stormbreaker and not Mjölnir. if you don't understand this comment go look at 5:53 you can see lighting comes out of Mjölnir but the lighting from stormbreaker surrounds the axe head and almost looks like fire.
@@themandarin8289 well both heat and electricity are forms of pure energy. And I think that fire and lightning are the ionization of said energy and the surrounding particles sooo
I have a question ? In the first movie, Thor's father, Odin, placed an enchantment on Mjolnir. But now that he is gone, who enchanted Stormbreaker with the ability to summon the Bifrost and the ability to enhance the user's powers. We know Stormbreaker is everything Mjolnir is but without the Worthyness enchantment and have a few extra features. So did odin enchant the axe's mould to transfer over to the Weapon once it has be casted ? Is that even posdible ?
The back up plan was the enchantment on his original weapon. Not worthy...can't use it. Stormbreaker is Thor's upgrade when he became king in defense of Hera. Now he has it and left his people with no crown or loyalties, and with that the potential to become a true tyrant.
The fact that Odin stripped Thor of his power and banished him until he learned humility works against this hypothesis. Then there's the fact that Hela would only be bound as long as Odin was alive. I think that the dwarves had been working on Stormbreaker because they felt a craft masters' desire better their work.
Maybe after etrie was forced to make the gauntlet he started preping to make stormbreaker in response hoping that someone like Thor would come along to help him make it
I cant agree with this theory because Odin had always had the ability to take away Thor's power and did so in the 1st movie, so the hammer was unnecessary in order to deal with him.
Eh it just doesn't make sense ... Well the power scale in The MCU is bad but Read this Odin without guniyr >>>>>> Thor with Mjölnir So why would odin even need a new weapon to take down thor Odin knows that thor powers are very weak compare to hela Even in thor 3 after all that thor went through He is still way weaker than hela Storm breaker would have been given to thor when he would be ready Mjölnir is actually a weapon that helps thor to master his powers But thor instead relied too much on it Thus in thor 3 He got in to a manner where he put himself in question when the hammer got destroy Storm breaker was a weapon kept in nidavellir till thor is ready The Axe wasn't even forged yet It was only prepared to So for me odin either prepared the axe since thousands of years or at the end of thor 2 He ordered elftri and the dwarf to make stormbreaker
I have to say... you are absolutely brilliant. Your analysis is beautiful and worthy of MCU cannon. I hope they include this someday in future MCU events. Bravo. Liked. Subscribed. Moreeee.e.........
This might be true because another TH-camr made a video about Thor Destroying the MCU and everything he said is coming true. Including the multiverse. and there’s one comic saying that Odin knows Thor is Extremely power like Universe destroyer and his scared that Thor turns on him and the 9 Realms so he does something using magic.and this was when Thor was growing up when Odin started to see how power Thor was getting.
It’s my opinion that Odin had storm breaker commissioned to use in his conquests with hela but his change of heart happened before he had it made, but kept the mold to use against hela if need be later on…
Assuming that Odin’s choice of imprisonming of Hela instead of an execution was because despite her warmongering he just couldn’t bring himself to kill his own daughter it could potentially have been commissioned for Thor with the intention that he would use it to kill Hela, it would explain why he never told Thor about her since he didn’t want him to develop any brotherly attachment to the person he would have to kill. Alternatively, depending on whenever the commission was made it is possible that the axe was meant for Loki to kill Thor and take the throne if it ever come to this, he had the legitimacy to gather support, the training and up to the end of Thor’s first movie when he had a breakdown and decided to try his hand at genocide to alleviate the stress he was probably the most prepared for the throne between the two.
Quite an interesting theory indeed! And I like it! Also, I remembered in the comics that there is a version of Thor that is the King of Asgard and seek out conquest. I don't remember which universe that is. If anyone remembered which one, please tell me.
@@thomasrockbottom2907 I mean, Odin can't control the fate of the universe. But what he can control, especially on Asgard, has a purpose... or maybe he could and it was all part of the plan? Without fighting and dealing with Loki in Thor 1 and 2 and Avengers, and defeating Hela by Allowing Ragnarok to happen, Thor would never have had the anger and pain to withstand the strength of the star on Nedavellir in order to make Stormbreaker, which in turn eventually killed Thanos and saved half the universe
I think it makes more sense that Odin had the weapon designed for some potential threat but not made because such a threat had yet to manifest. I don’t think it had a specific purpose.
Odin was younger and possibly stronger when he imprisoned Hela. Odin probably realised that Thor would be too much for him, Odin, to handle without some extra help.
@@gerardrbain1972 younger but he trapped her using magic and his life force thats why hella was only able to come out after he died using magic to trap thor wont be a problem for odin
Cool theory. But it was mentioned that the axe known as Stormbreaker is a Coronation Gift to the God of Thunder when he takes his place as The King of Asgard. If you see, Odin told thor that Mjolnir was a tool that will help thor focus his powers. But Stormbreaker was a tool to amplify his powers as a king. So if thor was so strong with Mjolnir, which helped thor focus his powers, imagine what Thor can acomplish through out the years with Stormbreaker ? And some might say that Mjolnir is the only thing that gives thor his powers despite watching Thor Ragnarok. Thor has lost his worthyness so many times in the comics, and has also lost his powers due to it. But that is psycological. The inscription on the hammes says "Whoever holds this hammer if he be worthy shall posses the power of Thor. So who ever holds the hammer will get the powers of The God of Thunder. So Thor can still use his powers with or without Mjolnir. Only those who are worthy can hold the hammer and obtain the power of thor. Idk why these people still exist !
Love Thor's character arc because he has very tragic past and story. This guy lost his father, mother, brother, sister, his friend Heimdall and his people Asgardians. It does not get worse than that. Yet with every loss he comes back stronger and stronger. I also have obsession with lightning and electricity so I love his abilities and power.
My theory on that was it was a contingency plan for Hela, not for Thor. The plan was that when Odin died Hela was too strong for Mjolnir, so he needed a weapon that focused his strength instead of hindering it, but it happened sooner than Odin expected because of Loki sending him to earth powerless, making him age faster. Because of that, he didn’t have time for Thor to rise to his place on the throne and have the weapon made before Hela appeared.
The storm breaker axe is not originally thors but another marvel character who already owns storm breaker and his face is on the collisium of the trash planet, the mold to storm breaker is there because it was already there and thor now holds the second axe of storm breakers the original holder being Beta Ray Bill
I think it was a contengencie plan to kill Hela without destroying Asgard, but then Loki exiled Odin, he and Thor ends up in Sakaar because of Loki haste to call the Bifrost and give Hela direct access to the source of her power (Asgard itself) all that while Thanos was busy forcing Eitri to forge his gauntlet and decimating the dwarves so even if Odin would have mentionned Stormbreaker it would have been the long-running plan that they might not have the time and ressources to implement so they took plan B: Sultur/Ragnarok
The mold was probably made by order of odin so that if thor ever lost mjolnir he would have a weapon to kill hela if the need ever rose but odin never got to tell thor of it because of his death.
Stormbreaker was designed for Beta Ray Bill to be used to defend against evil . A symbol of hope for the oppress and future hero arise from chaos/calamity to bring aid for Asgard and the 9 realms if require assistance.
Good in-universe way to explain the reason for Storm Breaker's name, though think it was really just an easter egg call out to the Storm Breaker in the comics. Does not stop us from making fun theories like this thought.
I think it's purpose is pretty much what you explained. As for why the mold was made, but not the weapon... how many times has asgard's vault been breached? Ya, not leaving a weapon like stormbreaker just LAYING about, thing is amped enough to stop someone using a fully assembled infinity gauntlet!
i think it was a contingency plan for hela in case she returned before odin's death because its was explained it was a weapon on legend in other words before thors time and maybe even odin's time
The last time we saw Thor, he was packing some serious power like we have not seen so far. The next time we see him in battle, it should be amazing and completely elemental.
Devil in the details. It already had a name before it was forged so it makes sense there was no handle/hilt prepared for it, which is why Groot cut a limb to make it, saving Thor in the process as he claimed the weapon and lightning surged in his fingers. Nicely done.
Maybe it was ordered by Odin to be forged as a last gift to Thor. Basically saying to the dwarves "when i die and my son ascends to the throne, forge that axe as his coronation gift."
This makes perfect sense and I could see it being an in universe justification…but I really only think the creators put that name and axe in place because it existed in the comics under that name.
What I think is that it was supposed to be thors korination weapon were he would protect all 9 relms were he would need the power to save the 9 relms from all threts
@themarvelouswave If Odin was a warmongering conqueror abd changed to become the protector of the 9 realms then is it possible that with each conquest he realized that the enemies was getting stronger and stronger until finally understanding that there was forces out there more powerful than himself. And then realized that some people were so underdeveloped or weak that they needed a protector rather than a conqueror?
Interesting theory but I think storm breaker was a contingency weapon for any threat the potential king or ruler of Asgard had to face down the line. I would say it was never deployed because of the power it wielded and that was the ability to summon the bifrost. Storm breaker being able to summon bifrost not only makes it a god killer but also a planet destroyer as well. That would be a lot of responsibility for any one person thus it should only be used if needed.
It was made for his alien counterpart and friend called "Beta Ray Bill." Beta Ray Bill is one of the few who can lift Thor's hammer, in addition to Captain America. Beta Ray Bill wished to wield Mjolnir to aid him in his quest, but Odin said "Nay. Mjolnir belongs to Thor, but perhaps there is another way." He hired the Dwarves who crafted Mjolnir to forge another hammer with power identical to Thor's hammer: Stormbreaker was its name! Or maybe it's the new Female Thor's weapon.
"The Stormbreaker" Hmmmm?😳🤨🧐🤔
It was made to kill Strom from the X men.....I just made that up. It was probably to kill Thor
What if it was commissioned to be able to kill Hela if she returned earlier?
Or perhaps just any God that gains too much power?

It could have also been a contingency plan for Hela too, not just Thor. Hela would have been released when Odin died. He might have commissioned the creation of Storm Breaker to defeat Hela if she became a threat. A plan where you wouldn't have to destroy Asgard. Lol.
Well....destroying Asgard was always a part if the prophecy of Ragnarok. And Odin knew that the ragnarok is unavailable.
Yea it was prolly for HeLa. Commissioned for Thor to use against her when Odin died and she broke free from her prison
That's exactly what I was thinking, makes more sense to be for Hela.
i dont think storm breaker can kill hela, cause why not just craft it before and kill her?
I think the right person who should possess Stormbreaker as a contingency plan to take out Thor has to be Beta Ray Bill. If Thor's lust for battle threatens the universe, Beta Ray Bill will have to be the one to fight him.
That sounds like a great plotline, which could be complimented by the film theory about Thor bringing the destruction of everything.
I did wonder about the name Storm Breaker. Thought it was “a bit much.”
Am I also high and I approve this comment lmao
Makes more sense this way. When a Storm stars it's commonly said there's a storm breaking. There for calling it storm breaker is just saying it helps Thor create and channel much bigger storm's
But this makes no sense. Odin literally can just strip him of his power. He literally did. Eitri also straight up said it was a coronation gift for Thor. Plus I doubt that Odin would end his own line. Considering his line are the most powerful asgardians and would greatly diminish Asgard’s power without one of them being alive

lol...thor got stripped of his powers. that's why he basically died when backhanded by the destroyer in thor 1. he then got his powers back
Was that, "Powerful Asgardian Warrior" or, "Powerful-Ass Guardian Warrior?"

Eh. I think it would have been made for Thor’s ascension to the throne. It would have been a symbol of his rule, like Odín’s staff. It wouldn’t have been crafted while Odín was still king of Asgard. Mjolnir was the weapon of a prince, stormbreaker is the weapon of a king.
Hela is Loki’s daughter in Norse mythology
Hel and hela are diffarent people in the mcu
Yes , but it was a pointless decision
The same thing happens in thor vs hulk animated movie, I am not sure about the comics but they should have kept it that way in the movies, it would have been more interesting.
he is also Odin's brother in Norse mythology.
We all know that
We see Bor using the spear Gungnir in battle, so I propose that the weapon was commissioned by Bor for Odin to use, but it was never made because Bor died in battle and passed on the spear after Stormbreaker's cast was made but before the dwarves had a chance to forge the uru.
Makes sense

Ditto! Was there any other reason explained in the comics for the name that you know of?
Imagine Thor and Hela conquering the universe together, literally would be unstoppable with Hela's experience and Thor's power
Thor's contingency plan is really, really good beer

Interesting theory except in Thor 1 Odin say's "I take from you your power" fight over
Odin can only take Mjolnir from Thor
Not his inherent capability to control lightening
Odin was full of dark magic and nothing can stand before him in battle, not Hela not thor
@@bullymaguire2061 Only Odin did take Thor's power. His strength, his lightning, his invulnerability, his stamina, everything..

This is one interesting fan theory. Great video my friend. You just got a subscriber.
Or maybe stormbreker was just a weapon saved for when Thor would be king.
The fact that Odin stripped Thor of his power and banished him until he learned humility works against this hypothesis. Then there's the fact that Hela would only be bound as long as Odin was alive.
I think that the dwarves had been working on Stormbreaker because they felt a craft masters' desire better their work.
honestly that entrance still gives me goosebumps. everyone just watches him destroy outriders.
A well thought-out theory. Not only possible, but also neatly ties up some hanging plot threads. I like it. Gonna be my headcanon now.

Eh it just doesn't make sense ...
Well the power scale in The MCU is bad but
Read this
Odin without guniyr >>>>>> Thor with Mjölnir
So why would odin even need a new weapon to take down thor
Odin knows that thor powers are very weak compare to hela
Even in thor 3 after all that thor went through
He is still way weaker than hela
Storm breaker would have been given to thor when he would be ready
Mjölnir is actually a weapon that helps thor to master his powers
But thor instead relied too much on it
Thus in thor 3
He got in to a manner where he put himself in question when the hammer got destroy
Storm breaker was a weapon kept in nidavellir till thor is ready
The Axe wasn't even forged yet
It was only prepared to
So for me odin either prepared the axe since thousands of years or at the end of thor 2
He ordered elftri and the dwarf to make stormbreaker
It could have been a gift that Odin was going to bestow upon Thor when he ascended to the throne.
This explains why Mjolnir would only work for the "worthy"... to further prevent Thor from becoming evil.
I have to say... you are absolutely brilliant. Your analysis is beautiful and worthy of MCU cannon. I hope they include this someday in future MCU events. Bravo. Liked. Subscribed. Moreeee.e.........
Love your theories - Very well thought out!
It’s my opinion that Odin had storm breaker commissioned to use in his conquests with hela but his change of heart happened before he had it made, but kept the mold to use against hela if need be later on…
Now that is a great theory. Itri said it was ment for a king
Storm Breaker was first introduced in Thor issue 339 it was forged by Eitri enchanted by odin and was given to Beta Ray Bill
Lol everyone gangsta till loki and sylvie pull up and fuck up the time line again

Hearing this mans voice talk about anything other than star wars is the strangest thing to me
My theory on that was it was a contingency plan for Hela, not for Thor.
Miljour also possess lighting capabilities seen when steve rodgers weilds it and storm breaker could have been in progress then thanos arrived
Wow, this is one of the best theories I've heard!
In the comic books Stormbreaker was created for Bata Ray Bill after a fight between him and Thor.
So was there a weapon that was supposed to take out Hella?
Asgardians are like super soldiers, their power can be granted as well as taken.
It was commissioned by Old King Thor in preparation for facing off with Gor the God Butcher.
I think it was exactly what it was, a kings backup weapon for redemption.
Gives new meaning to "storm breaker."
My favorite Thor quote: " Let's kill him properly this time"
Alternatively, Odin knew that Thor would be heavily tested after Odin's death. And prepared a weapon to aid him.
The mold was probably made by order of odin so that if thor ever lost mjolnir he would have a weapon to kill hela if the need ever rose but odin never got to tell thor of it because of his death.
Here the question? Whos stronger, Storm Breaker or Infinity Stones on infinity Gaunlet?
Listen listen listen that was a very very good analysis good job good job keep up the good work God bless you and your whole family
In the meantime, remember, Thaatss Just a Theory.. Aaaaaaaaaa *FIIIILLLM THEORYY*
Or the mold could have been made for Thor when he eventually became king stormbreaker was based off of ultimate Mojner which is a big axe
