9 Hole Reviews already made a video about the rescue of the kidnapped children in Loyada, carried out by members of the French Legion in 1976. As I understand the two types of weapons used in the action were FR-F1 rifles and MR 73 revolvers . In his video, Henry Chan uses an FR that I believe is owned by Ian; It would be interesting if Ian now used his new MR 73 to make a demonstration of the attack on the school bus where the kidnapped children were, something like what they already did with the movie Heat. What do you say Ian? You dare?😉
It's gonna be hard finding more FR F1s in the US. Ian has one of the few imported examples in the country, and it took him a good deal of negotiation with the NFA to get it through. But if he can find enough to equip Henry and Josh from 9 Hole, Karl from InRange, and someone else from the YT gun community to fill in the 5th sniper, that'd be awesome.

@@quentintin1 This is sad 😥 That isn't even nearly enough to be comfortable handling the gun ! I heard during the week some comparisons between French Police and US Police training. To be honest, I don't remember the numbers given for French Police, so I threw a random number but somewhat in the correct range. For US Police they shoot during training between 1500 to 3000 rounds, and the annual training is around the same figures.
@@JoJo-vm8vk The MR 73 was used by the BRI (Antigang) and GIPN, these policen practiced a lot. That said, of course firearm training and practice in France has less importance than in the USA, different cultures, levels of danger and legal system.
The model Ian has, and shot with, is a Police Nationale model that was used only by the best known (elite?) units, the only ones with the budget and the ability to choose their sidearm. Later, the MR 73 could be considered a "back-up" to a shoulder weapon, but it was during a long time the main weapon for these units.
Miscreant is "mecreant", no s,, mon ami. The MR73 with fixed sights was the police service handgun. Every cop was equipped with it (traffic cops, cops on the beat, investigators, etc.). I don't think the MR73 was designed for the GIGN initially, it was for the National Police first of all. I remember mentions of a shoot-out where the 7.65mm the cops had were no match and the then minister in charge of pplice decided they shoukd get .357 magnum (don't quote me on that). But because it was that good, GIGN adopted it. As far as I remember, I have never seen the standard Gendarmerie carrying the MR73, they had MAC50 then in 1987 adopted the Beretta 92 as a replacement. The RAID, which is the national police counterpart to GIGN, used to carry them too. At the time, the 5" MR73 with adjustable sights was kind of the sport model for sport shooters. They were even selling it with an anatomical grip. In a word, the MR73 was a service pistol but of a match pistol quality.
No man, miscreant is a english word, it doesn't translate to mécréant but to scélérat, un faux ami si tu veux. It was the opposite I think, the mr73 was developed for the GIGN (you know our ministry, they would never initially go for such an expensive revolver given the choice), but then indeed the police nationale realized they needed something better than 7.65 long french to fight crime, so they adopted it as well. That didn't mean the french police was entirely equiped with it, they never were, those revolvers were too few and too expensive, most of them had 7.65b and 7.65lf pistols, it was a bit of a mess (funny enough you can see that in the movie Pinot, simple flic). Very quickly the police switched to the mr88 which was cheaper, the GIGN stayed with the 73, which was better.
As a kid I remember all the Police Natinale in my hometown having MR73 and all the Gendarmes having MAC50 then MAS G1. There must have been a huge disparity in issueing guns between units nationally. It'd be interesting to know more about the genesis of the MR73. Given the GIGN was only founded in 1973, and given it takes years to design a gun, I suspect any contribution to the design by GIGN was to a product already pretty much mature. As for "miscreant", it indeed means "scelerat" but also means "mecreant". Who knows what Ian had in mind when he was dusplaying his mastery of Franglais? ;-)
@@drdoom-skull2244 You're right it does, I was absolutely wrong ! The etymology of the word had me thinking they used the old French meaning for it and that it hadn't evolved that way too over there, thanks ! It was a joint demand by all police forces for their intervention groups (so the raid, the gipn and the gign), the gign was under development when they asked for it, so it was also designed for them whilst they weren't even a unit per se. Maybe someone will correct me if I'm wrong ? I remember our cops having mr88 yes, I'm too young for those mr73s. I only know that they were too expensive to give to every trooper on street duty.
Interesting, when I startedvto get interested in guns, they were already well established with the police on the beat where I lived. Definitely MR73 (the MR88 is really to distinguish). Maybe they got lucky and got issued 73 while other cities had to wait and got the 88!
Two random thoughts on the BUG match; the stall stage: 1. The advantages of a shoulder holster. 2. Survive an assault by four miscreants, but get nicked for indecent exposure.
That "shoot through " target was interesting, was it mostly to conserve ammo, or just for fun? Looked like something from a Hollywood film ( a not very good one). There is funny with Hollywood, sometimes a flipped table will shield You from everything to connect to You, in other cases a small caliber gun (9mm) could almost penetrate everything.
Lol "the ghetto version of the MR-73" ... lmao as if!! Seriously though, that's one heck of a "backup" gun but congrats on placing 5th and having so much fun while performing so well! Can't wait for the "deluxe" version to arrive :-) P.S. Miscreant in French is pronounced maycrayong, which is a heck of a challenge if you don't practise spoken French regularly

It opens for celebration and special moments. If you have the time (like being bedridden for a week or more) then watch the back catalogue. Mcc will be revealed.
Huh, I always heard that the century MR-73s were a mixed bag. The early ones were nicer (from the finish, yours looks pretty good) and the later ones were surprisingly clapped-out. I have an MR-73 sport that I ordered from Chapuis some ten years ago. Took the better part of five months to make it to me. I have concerns that as good as the Manurhin revolver is, that Beretta will shortcut the quality in incremental ways or push production to be so fast that the fit and finishing steps get short shrift. Looking forward to the MR73 rundown to come!

@@GMdrivingMOPARguy I will agree with you on the No3, but the build standard for the MR73 is nuts. Half a million rounds of max load .357!

The french was great. "Je suis donc la toilette à Charles de Gaul et il y a quatre miscreants. Et j'ai cinque cartouches". Only thing I will say is that cinque should sound closer to senk and not sonk but still. I understood what you were saying.
I don’t think we would use « miscreants » (mécréants) in this context though.

@Hubert C yes, this is a classic case of false friends. The French words one would probably use would be something like “delinquant” or the like.
MR 17 need great words.
@@Anino_Makata Genuine (i.e. not modified MAS 36) FR F1 are hard to find even *in France*. The last one I saw sold for 8.000+ €...

Ian basically said to the ATF that the FR-F1 was a C&R item, it'd be like banning the importation of a Remington 700 or WW2 rifle just because it was used as a sniper rifle.

The MR 73 was formerly produced by Manurhin, Manufacture du Rhine in Mulhouse/ Mühlhausen en Alsace.
Manurhin means "Manufacture d'armes du Haut-Rhin". The factory settled in Mulhouse. Then Chapuis (from Saint Étienne) purchased it and now Beretta bought Chapuis.

Imagine hearing him in the stall next to you narrating and then you hear *BANG* *BANG* *BANG*
I stand corrected, some Gendarmerie were issued with it, and there was the Gendarmerie variant (the GIGN one). Ian's is the Police variant.

I think it's more for the challenge than conserving ammo.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Indy basically does this during the fight on top of the tank.
In La Toilette stage, that was a brilliant tactical choice, not taking time out to wipe.
