  • Ghana Gets the Ashanti Crown Jewels Back from the UK? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
32 priceless artefacts have made their way back to Ghana. They include crown jewels that belonged to the Ashanti kingdom. These artefacts were looted by British soldiers back in 1874, during the third Anglo-Ashanti war. The British took the looted artefacts back to the UK, and these relics eventually found their way to museums. Now, two museums in the UK have agreed to loan these crown jewels back to the King of the Ashanti people. It's a 3-year loan with the King, not the government of Ghana. The King is a ceremonial figurehead who has set up a museum to showcase the country's heritage to the people of Ghana.

First time seeing my Country Ghana in your news. Don't fully blame the British, but our leaders. The British didn't force them, rather our leaders paved ways for them. Our own leaders sold our future and resources for them and it's still going on. Africa is very rich in natural resources, but one of the poorest continent. Our Leaders/politicians is our problem.

Hey, hey, hey. Get your facts right. So long as these particular artifacts are concerned, they were forcibly taken during war. The Asantes fought the British invaders a number of times. They didn't just hand over their treasures. Stop mixing up the issues.
Read about the Anglo-Ashanti wars. Between 1824 and 1900, the Asantes fought the invading British in 5 wars, trying to protect their land and their treasures. I've seen all your eight comments here. You're clearly just a loser. You claim to be hungry. No wonder you're angry.

We should not always blame the British and other Europeans for the injustices of the past.
In Pre colonial times, in some parts of Africa, empires were established by Africans.
The Zulu, Ashanti, Buganda, Sokoto, Oyo, Benin, Kongo and so on.
All these African empires were established by invading, raping, killing, looting and enslaving weak territories around for centuries.
The Ashanti people of Ghana, were heavily involved in the transatlantic slave trade.
As an African, I want to urge my fellow Africans to be very objective in their comments.
    From Enugu, Nigeria 🇳🇬.

The Europeans had ammunition while others didn't. That's how they managed to conquer other countries. And yes, other countries did have border conflicts, but the thing that set the Europeans apart was the intensity of the wickedness and how they took pleasure in dehumanizing and subjugating other people, especially Black people. Their cruelty is unmatched.
