Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi died in a deadly helicopter crash in east Azerbaijan Province of Iran yesterday. His mortal remains were discovered by a rescue team today. While the cause of the crash is yet to be determined, experts say the bad weather could have been a factor. Initial investigation has revealed that Raisi's helicopter made a hard landing. They are also pointing out that President Raisi and his team were flying in a decades-old chopper. No one aboard the chopper survived the crash, including Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, a cleric and five of Raisi's close aides. Raisi was a hardline ruler, and a close aide to Iran's Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. After Raisi's departure, Khamenei announced a five-day national mourning period for Iran, and said that the regime will continue to operate "without any disruptions". He has also appointed Vice President Mohammad Mokhber to serve as Iran's interim President until the next Presidential elections in the regime. As a pilot, the first you learn when flying into fog is,take a 180°and go back to the point where there was visibility. This is easy in a chopper because you don't need speed to get lift.
That helicopter has a turbine engine which may have needed a refurbishment.
The same happend to Kobe the basketball player when his helicopter flew into the fog and crashed.
That may be true yet I think too is that when you can't see in a helicopter, the very minute you "make a turn" you lose spatial relationship ~ and go into what a guy breaking down the Kobe Bryant crash had a specific name for the actual phenomenon, but I cannot recall it. He explained that the brain cannot distinguish between acceleration and gravity as the turn begins or while you're in it.

What caused the crash? A pilot who felt compelled to continue flying into bad weather when he should have landed. Exactly the same situation that killed Kobe Bryant in another helicopter accident in poor visibility.

@@anitawallace265yes, weather definitely could have been a contributing factor. However, regardless of weather the crash was probably due to poor maintenance, or a mast bump. The older double bladed Huey is one of the most notoriously difficult to fly helicopters in existence. They are extremely temperamental, very unforgiving and easy to crash. One slightly wrong maneuver and it’s over. For example, suddenly attempting to avoid a mountainside you couldn’t see far enough ahead because of fog could easily cause a mast bump. A mast bump will almost always cause the rotor to fly off in a different direction while the rest of the machine plumets like a rock to the ground. Can be fun to fly in a simulator, but I wouldn’t want to fly or be a passenger in a real one, no matter what the weather is like.

Hi, aviation inspector here that works will helicopter logistics. None of my pilots would EVER fly through those conditions, over that terrain, at that altitude.
Sorry I have no idea about aviation so my question is quite dumb. If you are flying in such foggy conditions, why can't you take the helicopter to a great height so that at least you don't collide with the mountains? Or even better, just land it immediately. Why don't they do it?
@@TheJAIHIND101 They crashed at 10,000 feet. With eight people on board and a full tank of gas a Bell 212 can't fly much higher than that, certainly not if one engine goes kaput in flight.
The weather was no issue for the helicopter - if it was properly equipped for instrument flight - but the altitude definitely was. The Bell 212 can't fly at 10,000 feet on one engine, if an engine failed in flight they were doomed, even in good weather.
It's reported here that the chopper had no signalling system. Now that's a truly ancient chopper. Pilot couldn't have sought radio help?

The THumbnail PIC is the WRONG WRONG WRONG HELICOPTER. He WAS flying in a RUSSIAN MI- 17 which has a lot more windows and is LONGER and also has a Tailplane section, seen at crash site. DEFINITELY NOT USA CHOPPER. This channel CANNOT GET THE FACTS CORRECT.

Iran President died in a helicopter that was a 40 year old US Bell helicopter. It had no altimeter showing altitude so very dangerous when foggy and unclear weather because the pilot has no idea of the altitude of land around and beneath them. It is a very risky helicopter to fly in when weather is not perfectly clear. The weather was very foggy when it crashed with 10 people on board. That happened in Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant died at 41 in helicopter crashed in January 2020 with his family crashed into the Hollywood hills because the pilot didn't know the altitude of the helicopter or the hills around him and just going by eyesight in bad weather. Which is basically flying blind in a suicide flight to the US sports star and his family and also for the Iranian President. An sane pilot would of refused to fly when the weather wasn't clear.

If that is true, then that is inexcusable for Raisi's staff to arrange such a trip and in a helicopter that had not been properly maintained.
Sanctions or not, Iran could've purchased brand new Russian or Chinese or some other helicopters. Monero exists and Iran could've used it as a way to move payments outside of SWIFT and other U.S-controlled financial systems.
