- 1,000-year-old Looted "Golden Boy" Shiva Statue Returned to Thailand | Vantage with Palki Sharma
On Tuesday, Thailand celebrated the return of two priceless artefacts. Two 1000-year-old bronze statues, that had been looted 50 years ago, were returned to Thailand. One of the statues is known as the "Standing Shiva" or the "Golden Boy". It is believed to be a statue of the Hindu god, Shiva. The statue was unearthed in 1974, and the person who claims to have found it says she sold it to a foreigner for $33,000. The Shiva statue eventually made its way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York city, where it has been for the past few decades. But now, the MET decided to give the statue back.

If both the Angkorian-style “Golden Boy” statue as well as the Angkorian-style “Kneeling Female” statue were both made in the 11th century during the Khmer Empire, and Thailand didn’t exist yet as a Kingdom until the 13th century, specifically 1238 AD, then how does it make sense that those statues are Thai and returned to Thailand? That’s as if the Turkish were to say that Byzantine Greek artifacts taken and displayed in the NYC’s MET museum should be returned to Turkey because Constantinople (present-day Istanbul) is now part of Turkey. Does it make sense to you? Because it sure doesn’t make sense to me how Khmer-style sculptures created centuries before the first Kingdom of Thailand was founded is returned to Thailand.
And to make sure I am overreacting, I wanted to see if there are any other ethnic groups that think and behave the same way as Thais and Vietnamese, so I Googled, “Do Muslim Turks claim Greek artifacts belong to them” since the nomadic Turkish invaded and annexed Greek lands, and I found many links reading the Turkish desire Greek artifacts from the British Museum returned to them! Thais, Vietnamese and Turkish whom are all tribal nomadic pagans all think and behave the same way! It’s such a weird mentality to have! I don’t understand tribal people’s mentality at all! I guess I really am the uniquest-born fraternal twin Beau Bodhi Apollo Kingdom Boy!!!
They saying that idol is Bhagwan Shiva, then hinduism presented in today's Thailand even before the Thai people exist. Your examples of Turkish and Greek yeah that make sense. Bcz Turks now are Muslims,

Get the news right It was from Cambodia 🇰🇭
Why US don’t return it to Cambodia then? This statue was discovered in soil of Thailand, so it belongs to Thailand.🇹🇭
@@AdamEmmanuel2The US returned this Khmer bronze statue to Thailand because the wife of the British Douglas Latchford who bought this Khmer statue in black market in Thailand, he lent this Khmer bronze statue to the Mets museum when he was alive, she is a British originated Thai woman Pakpong Kriangsak. Her husband had a bad reputation known as an art smuggler in Britain, so she asked American Ambassador in Bangkok to speak on her behalf pretending to make friendship between the US and Thailand, so she can be avoid of being heard in Britain.
Beautiful arts by Khmer empire of their sacred king 👑👑👑
I hope India gets bk all our treasure...
Return all deities from India
The metropolitan Museum will be half empty, if they are to return all the artefacts that are looted from other places. 😂
Countries like India do not have any International Museums at all. The share of International tourists in India is 0.00001% where as for London it is 5%. So many people would have watched these artefacts in British museums and Britain had taken care of these otherwise neglected artefacts. So India and Thailand have to pay for care charges to British.
@@kamandalamjalam1541 what rubbish are you talking?
@@vibhac5403 What I am saying is India could not safeguard thousands of its ancient temples. They have given up women and children to invading Arabs so that Islam replaced Hindus with 30% Muslims. When you have so many failures, why do you bother about small things like Diamond or old artefacts.

It’s Khmer art, not Thai art just like many Khmer temples in Thailand.
Funny that Thai admire our Khmer king 😂

No need to, Khmer had more statue in Cambodia then Thailand, there no such thing as Thai art 😂 the reason why it’s going back to Thailand because it’s in Thailand that was once Khmer land back during the empire era!
@@booneynong5873 But Khmer copy Thai art and Thai cloth of Ayutthaya period without shame. Forget Sampot, copy Sabai instead 😂 Whatever famous in Thailand, you will find them later in Khmerland. Current Khmer Just copy and paste, create nothing.
Siemreap, Battabong, Srisophon, Kohkong were once provinces of Siam. You can see a lot of Siamese architecture there especially temples. Without your father France, these provinces are still with Thailand.
How can the US making friendships with Thailand over the Khmer art from Cambodia? Thai Ayutthaya walls are empty only bricks got nothing on the walls.

And to make sure I am not overreacting, I wanted to see if there are any other ethnic groups that think and behave the same way as Thais and Vietnamese, so I Googled, “Do Muslim Turks claim Greek artifacts belong to them” since the nomadic Turkish invaded and annexed Greek lands, and I found many links reading the Turkish desire Greek artifacts from the British Museum returned to them!
Facts!!
Here is the deal. British looted the Khmer artifacts from Thailand. So, UK is justified to returned the artifacts back to Thailand. They were no taken from Khmer and can’t return to Khmer because it doesn’t exist today.
Thailand existed even during bronze age
@@phillipchan6919 Just because I was born in 1988 in what is present-day Thailand as the real life millennial fraternal twin Golden Boy Apollo/Beau like the 1,000-year-old Golden Boy Khmer statue and came to the NYC in the same year of 1988 as the statue, doesn’t make me ethnically Thai. I am still ethnically Khmer or Khemera/Chimera (The 3-in-1 Human Trinity) aka the Coming Bodhi (Cam-Bodhi).
@@BeauBodhi88 Are representatives of the Khmer government? Do you wish the UK return the loot back to you alone? Do You want to keep the return because you are a Khmer without any government representation?
Thailand isn't the original home of this status. This status belong to Cambodia, this made even before Thailand existed.

British doing what they do best.
Cambodia worked hard with international law for decades to bring the major issue of looted artifacts in Western museums to court. Thailand was the middleman for these illegal looting and was given this statue as a vengeful move by the MET museum. Thailand has put little effort in these cases and should not be applauded with their ownership of a Cambodian statue. Without the media's interest in Cambodian looted artifacts this issue wouldn't have been public or help open the case for other countries. So please support Cambodia to rightly bring back this Khmer statue to be honored correctly rather than used inappropriately by the Thais.
