I swear Australians are so good at this genre 😂😂. Nortlane, Polaris, doom soundtrack guy etc. Mabye it's coincidence, or just the raging heat lol 😂. Really like the content man, subbed.
Yeah fkn no worries mate cheers cobba fair dinkum
@@KeyanHoushmandLive man, im australian why am I not instantly talented.
@@jensenparker5504 thank you, practice practice practice
the heat defs has us hearing things.
mick gordon is the doom soundtrack guy! he is a god honestly
I really enjoyed your breakdown of the riff! It’s actually much simpler than it sounds like, which are often some of the best riffs. Nice work!
Thanks dude, once your get your head around it, it's like second nature
6:31 scared the shit out of me lmfao. I wasnt expecting that, but I really wish I had modern metal drum beats back up my playing everytime xD
You are already represent “modern metel” by wearing hilfiger sweater, even before i hear what u play. Keep it up dude!!👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Thanks dude!
Great riff, great tone, very impressive. Hope your sub count blows up man, you deserve it. You're very insightful and articulate.
Thank you for the nice words dude
Great job mate! Sounds killer. I would also add a side note if people out there would wanna take this concept to the next level. You can move these note groupings around inside the 4 bars in any order, to have a more interesting rhythmic flavour. You have 32 8th notes in 4 bars (depends on tempo and time signature tho) which in this riff come as 6-6-6-6-4-4, but you can also try something like 6-6-6-4-6-4 for a weirder feel. The more you avoid the downbeats at the start of the bars, the weirder it gets.
Great idea, might need to try that
Every video I click on from you is concise, educational and very well put together. Thanks for the hard work man
I have ADHD and have been struggling to play guitar, you kind of make it easier for me to be able to under stand and play guitar.
Don't want to dissapoint but people without ADHD also struggle, it's part of the learning process.
ADHD is a gift if you view it and manage it from the right angle.
Top tip, make notes instead of remembering everything.
Interesting ideas man, would love to see more riffs focusing on picking hand and rhythm rather than overcomplicated runs on a fretboard.
Glad you enjoyed it man
absolutely more of it
What he’s doing ISNT over complicated
So obviously great video, thanks for these cool insights. What I find probably the most helpful about such videos is hearing the live "practice session" sound (how much work you actually put into the strings) . Meaning the actual ringing and slight buzzing of the strings and such. I really aprecciate it bcs usually you dont get to hear this as properly and it helps a lot to get an idea about right string attack. Keep it up!
things have changed a bit, since i was riffing away my metallica, sepultura, pantera riffs :D
The golden era
vaiserious can’t forget fear factory
With Sylosis you'll have old school riffing but translated into 2020, they are so good!
New style is ok but I agree I prefer the chugga chugga vs djenting... nothing will beat a riff you can bang your head to even if it’s super simple, pantera Metallica megadeth korn AIC and on and on and on have super easy songs but you always bang your head to it.. this style is technical and cool but I can never get into it feeling wise
matt wood I like the way you think man. And no one has that almost rabid dog like sound of aic
Really cool approach to riff writing. Awesome \m/
Youre awesome
Your creativity with a 7 and your tone gets a sub from me. Love seeing people do more than just chug. Good stuff my dude!
Thanks man! Glad you liked it
That guitar is literally perfect. So sharp and aggressive but classic , great lesson btw
Thanks man, the guitar is a Jackson Juggernaut USA HT7
It's a beautiful Jackson guitar and probably very comfortable to play on, could be his setup, but these modern distorsion just sound "shallow" to me. Maybe new active pickups could give the guitar a fuller sound.
Misha isn't only a sick musician he is a genius at marketing too. If you're Australian think about that.... You've got a USA guitar in your hands lol as a drummer though who has been playing for over 20 years, within the last 10 years I've had to completely learn how to play in the newer styles. Polyrhythms and training my feet to be as good as my hands has been a challenge but I'll blast beat for 30 minutes straight now just because it's brutalllll \m/ lol
He is a genius at marketing, I'll give him that
hey Keyan, I am really impressed with how you are bringing the whole thing over here. Very agile and really understandable. I think my children would understand exactly what you are explaining here. ;-) Compliment, i really enjoy watching your videos! Greetings from Switzerland
Hey guys, if you have any questions on anything you see or hear, let me know!
Keyan Houshmand Live do live tone settings
Will it sound good on drop c?
Hook a tab!?
Please tab this riff!🙋🏻♂️
for the 2nd "dead note" of each bar, u mute the 7th string or the 5th string?
Cool rhythm - reminds me of a metal version of the way Stanley Clark used to put together slap bass
I really like your little commentary and notes on things. Thanks man.
Sick riffs, amazing tone, great teaching = fair dinkum, i subscribed.
Thanks dude! Welcome
Well,it always a pleasure to see the metal guy with a good tight right hand, very good attacking and articulation, just a pleasure for my ears
Thanks dude, no voluntary practice it kinda just did its own thing over time.
I really enjoy your videos about teaching those complicated Riffs. Keep up doing stuff like that!
Are you Australian? Love this content , i been play guitar for 15 years , but never try to play riff or modern guitar , and now i start it to play with your content , thanks mate ,make more content like this . so much fun to learn with you
Cool riff man!
Thanks Kevin!
Thank you for taking the time of doing this video 🙏 you are a very good professor
Thanks dude, I hope I explained it clearly
This was an awesome video man, such a fun riff to play and very well explained! Going to incorporate that picking pattern into my modern metal practise from now on.
Killer riff and killer tutorials! I'd love to learn that stuff soon!
It's here whenever you're ready
This sounds so good 🔥🔥🔥🤟🤟🤟
Please do more tutorials, your take on theory is really relatable and has helped me Tremendously. Idk how many times I’ve watch a few of your tutorial videos. Thanks dude, big ups from the California.
thanks for the tips man and beautiful guitar, I love that jackson
No worries, thanks man!
Just discovered your channel a few days ago! Easily some of the best content I’ve seen in a while 🤘🏼
Thanks man, appreciate it!
This riff is really sick bro. Wow. Prog music is life. But since I love vocal on my songs, I have to go with the 4/4 old school riff in order to allow someone to sing over and as soon as I get space, I brake it all again.
This is still in 4/4 im pretty sure
Really clean playing and highly good at didactics. Congrats from Italy!
Mille grazie!
Well. That reminds me of a ton of John Browne riffs.
Well, that was a quick sub!! Awesome video man! We need more!
Thanks man!
Omg that tone is beautiful 😳
Neural DSP Fortin Nameless
1:04 bro dropped in cannibal corpse for a second 😂
Riff sounds awesome! Really interesting video, bro! 🔥🔥🔥
Thank you for your job, sir! 🤘
Thank you for watching!
Nice tone ! can I play this on my 5 string guitar?
good lord.....i'm just beginning with learning to play guitar and this is my goal to be able to play!
Practice practice practice
@@KeyanHoushmandLive oh i do! Every day as much as i can. I need to figure out hammer ons!
Great explanations dude very helpful. Also, sick entry bro
Glad you found it helpful dude!
Since I'm new to the whole modern metal thing I seem to have more trouble writing modern metal solos and techy riffs like polaris do, A lesson on that subject would be helpful 😎🤟
Sick demonstration
Glad you enioyed it!
Hey mate this is sick
Thanks dude, love your vids!
Keyan Houshmand Live aww thanks bro! I love that guitar and the tone is brutal
Killer Riff man!
Cheers Paul!
I've have also learned that using a lighter gauge string with my 7 string guitar has helped tighten up, and take out some "flubbiness" in my tone. Yes, at the end of the day, it's all in what you like, and what you prefer to use. It doesn't hurt to maybe "explore" and experiment with the types of strings you use. That's one piece of "gear" that doesn't cost you very much like an awesome tube amp might cost you.
I've also tuned up to B standard on my 7string. Again, it's all in what you like, this has just worked out great for me. I can just hear chords, and single notes ring out so much more clearly.
You can still be brutal and heavy with out using strings that are thick enough to hold back an aircraft carrier, and tune lower than the depths of hell!!!
....and one last time, this has all worked great for me, and material I've been working on. Everyone is different, and the type of material one plays as well.
Stay Metal!!!
Thanks for the insight man! I use thick strings to keep tension so the strings don't go out of tune when I pick, thanks
@@KeyanHoushmandLive that just worked out for me, and I understand everyone is different. Some may love using heavier gauge strings and it works great for them.
Not saying anything is wrong either way.
I really enjoyed the video, and liked how you broke everything down.
My comment wasn't meant to seem as if what I was saying was better, or that everyone had to do as I said.
fookin sick riff dude
Hella has that After The Burial sound 😌😌🤘🏻🤘🏻
🤘🏼
Wow such legitness!!!! 🔥
!!!
That's a badass riff..
Cheers
awesome Man! congrats
Sweet guitar man! Love that headstock.
Thanks dude! Jackson USA Juggernaut HT7
That first riff was badaas as hell and very impressive.
quite interesting bro, could u show more? tell about your guitar tones as well, i love this one
Lots other vids talking about all that on the channel
@@KeyanHoushmandLive i'm sorry bro, im new here, i'll watch more videos
That is one hell of a riff
Thanks Anthony!
Really cool ideas, love it
This is very helpful man!
Glad you liked it!
Cool riffing. 1st I've ever seen a metal riffer sporting hilfiger.
I'm just a dude who plays guitar
So awesome man. Glad to see you in the neural community also.
Awesome dude!
Thanks!
Sick tone and playing. New sub!
Thanks!
@@KeyanHoushmandLive hey bud, I'm running reaper daw, and when i try to download the best IR in the world it says it can't be viewed? And also there are three options to download.. which one do you get? There is .ir .syx and .wav? If you could help it be much appreciated
Sounds like Nociceptor, epic stuff here
Honestly never thought I'd take music advice from someone wearing Tommy Hilfiger.. but here I am. Thank you, and great riffs.
"out of the box" BOY those damn juggernauts really do that guitar massive justice. I need me some bare knuckles
Cool riff. Reminds me of Collapse by ATB
Thanks dude
Great video, man. It would be nice to have more like this one. Now you have me subscribed :)
Definitely will for sure
This is what i need
Well that was awesome.
Thanks dude!
KH is a machine! In a good way of course 🙃👌👌
“Its not so much in the fretting hand” *proceeds to throw up gang signs*
That is a sick riff
Is that a low gain with loads of compressor. I can hear the strings . The time that I am looking for.
Its just my mic audio going through from me playing
گیتاریست خفن❤️🤘
In the beginning was the riff of Shrezzers - Anaraak (1:15) 🤘🔥
A really good riffing! What do you think about my style? Thx!
That's a fucking riff, god damn!
Thanks Jeremy!
great video and explanation. Subbing.
Very cool
Thanks!
Nice!!
Thanks!
Nice jack8-)
Tnx for little tricks :)
You're welcome!
I just came here to drool over the Jackson USA Mesha guitars...
Its a beast
Sounds like Collapse by After The Burial
Definitely a subliminal influence for sure
Which string gauge do you use for Drop G# tuning? In which scale length?
amazing man ! any chance you got tabs for it ?
Not at the moment sorry!
Kinda like collapse by after the burial. Pretty fuckin sick
Same picking pattern!
MODERN METAL RIFFING HILFIGER
Hahahaha
Hey, that hilfigers riffs are great :D i waiting on more :D
I was looking for this comment xDDD
Sounds like the intro of Periphery make total destroy.
nice dude I remembered Polaris :D
Nice i like it
Awesome video. What type of mic are you using? Thanks
Sounds good. I prefer the riff a bit slower, it sounds heavier 🤘
Kind of reminds me of Exhale by Unprocessed. Nice riff tho luv it ^^
Thanks dude
Yo dude! I hope you're well. Great videos. I recently got a PRS 7 Mark Holcomb. What string gauge do you use for the G# Periphery songs? The strings on mine are a little floppy. Greetings from Ireland man 😊🤟
I use 11-74 for G#, thanks for watching dude!
@@KeyanHoushmandLive Thanks a lot man
Tone 😱😱😱
Thanks!
What are your string gauges suited for this particular tuning ?
Hey man your tone is a beast.... please show your patch setting...
That might be the prettiest jackson ive ever seen
Misha Mansoor signature!
Ima check it out. Thanks!
I enjoyed the video man.
Hey Keyan, sounds freaking amazing. Just wondering are they all down picking? Cos I'm sorta seeing down and up picking when you play at the beginning.
Hey man, thanks! You can play it both ways, when I recorded it I did it all downpicked to get more attack, but you can upstroke the second string if it makes it easier.
Esta muy bueno todo el riff , es tremendo el manejo de la rítmica y de la pua . gracias por compartir esto
Awesome riff... Could we play this on 6 strings?
Absolutely
Obviously.. He only plays on 1 string.. If you're asking a quiestion like this exit out the vid, its way too advanced for you lmfao
@@rscrevolutionkrypton5130 actually he uses 2 strings for playing this
