      What did you expect, it's Rob Scallon, one of the most honest and humble YTers you can find, plus he's the real deal, guy's been doing this for more than a decade as he said himself. I remember when he'd mess around with Metallica songs, playing Sandman on acoustic and backwards, playing Anesthesia on an upright bass, other Maytallica content, his banjo covers and so on. Time sure flies.

    the hammer on and pull offs remind me of how in irish whistling we use fingering and ornamentations to help keep pace of rhythm and in place of more complex tonguing so that we can breathe out. and also so that notes we hold on for a while don't sound too harsh

    I have been unintentionally pick slanting almost the entire 20 years of my guitar playing because I figured out early on it was the most efficient way to not get stuck in the gaps between strings. I always mention this to other players who I don't see do it. It's a great way to play faster. I also have a strange three finger grip I use on the pick with my thumb, pointer, and middle finger that works like a gimbal almost, it allows superior control over pick attack vs the traditional two finger grip.

    Try using less pressure by picking at a shallower angle while sweep picking. I also hold it very loosely and I used to drop it constantly in the beginning.
    Also try using hammer ons and pull offs in places instead of picks when part of an arpeggio is on the same string. For example, I might pick the first note on the low E string, hammer on the next note on that string, sweep through to the high E string, then pick the final note of the arpeggio on that string (8 notes in total on a 6 string guitar), then I pick the first note of the next arpeggio on the high E string, pull off to the next note, sweep through to the low E string and pick the final note of that arpeggio (also 8 notes).

  • @Noo90
    @Noo90 หลายเดือนก่อน

    One technique i found is great for learning any form of alternate picking is, you pick 3 strings and you start on the middle string, if you start with a down pick you move to the down sting and use an up pick now you have move back to the middle string and hit a down pick, from there you move to the upper string and hit an up pick, finally you down to the middle string to start the sequence all over again, the middle string is every picked every 1st and 3rd pick, this technique is used in bathory's a fine day to die for the intro and pre solo, its great for alternate picking it makes more spatially aware of you strings especially for playing fast, you're also picking out a power chord with the route note on the middle string, so you can strum that power chord too

    If anybody feels themselves hitting these walls when trying to get faster, the best thing I've discovered is to simplify it. "Chunking" is the term used for breaking the fast parts up into smaller pieces. Try getting just the first 2 notes up to speed, then add the 3rd. Only move on when you can comfortably play the first 3 up to speed, and so on. When I was learning to economy pick, I'd find myself getting stuck _constantly_ when trying to speed it up, and it stayed that way for years. Chunking allowed me to practice more efficiently, and you'll start to see progress measured in hours and days, instead of months or years.

    xD I was waiting for the end of the video to go to the comments, because I figured MAB have something to say ('cause he's such a great guy and he'd love this content). I really didn't expect him to feature in the video!! Good job, guys. Inspiring the next generation of guitarists.

    Can't believe I just sat through a near 13 minute commercial for Rob's admittedly awesome new song.
    All while saying to myself, "Hey, I went through that exact phase in my guitar iourney."
    Oh wait. Yes I can.

    Love it man. It's easy to forget to explain things like this because we're so familiar with it already. But great on you for highlighting this stuff for the kiddos!!! These are the things we all wish we knew early on! Well, the secret's out kids, get to practicin'!!!!

    Thanks, Rob, been trying to play 'Flight of the Wounded Bumble Bee' - Nuno Bettencourt. I think in about 2 years. I might get it down. Say hi to Mr B (Owner of the best guitar in the world). Definitely off to watch the 'Keys to the Lamborghini'. Still, have your sense of humour after all this I note. :)

    Number 5 sounds so good! But actually I haven't seen a lot of people using this. At least not on an electric guitar. Quite a rare technique
