On a completely different note: A kind of torch that burns down in a set amount of time and could somehow be automatically re-lit could potentially make Redstone circuits more compact
The most unrealistic part of this is the implication that the Rascal would drop anything, let alone something useful. Literally the last mob added that drops ANYTHING was the glow squid. Mojang really don't want to reward killing anything now, it really restricts the game to the point where I just can't be excited for real updates anymore
I agree, wish they were more willing to do that. At the end of the day I understand it's at least in part because they don't want to encourage killing creatures, especially cute and friendly looking ones, but ultimately, my opinion is that it's just a video game, and it's really not that big of a deal.
Neat video idea, though I agree with the commenter that said it's a bit too fanfiction-y for what the title implies, but there's just one thing I wanted to point out...... at the time of that Halloween update, the lighting system was totally different, and darkness was REALLY DARK. Forgetting to relight your torches would've been a REAL horror if this update happened!
in the torches burn out timeline, imagine how it would effect build styles. before more hidable light sources there would probably be much more netherack open flames incorporated through fire places/pits. glowstone, lamps, prismarine lights, ext becoming alot more common sights. or after that version of the glow squid is released, finding interesting mobs to use for lighting(imagine lighting like a rave build with a bunch of loose bats)
I think players would have just started using Jack o Lanterns, Glowstone, Burning Netherack and maybe Lava too instead of this crazyness. The community has shown time and time again to quickly adapt to whatever changes Notch made like when he added Minecarts and Rail but not powered rails yet or when Redstone added.
nah, I feel like if they add it they should go all or nothing, making it tied exclusively to hardcore just adds a separate knowledge barrier to entering the mode that goes against the idea of MC always following the same core rules no matter how you're playing its the same reason they don't add other suggested stuff like beds draining hunger, intentional crop trampling, mob mining, or mob mantling to hardcore, it separates it a little *too much* from standard Minecraft
I wish this feature was released. But ofc, the ultra filthy casuals don't want the game to be remotely difficult. So Mojang scrapped this idea because of them.
Ok i replied to a couple comments but here is my officil ask: PLEASE someone please make a mod and add-on please, the comments i replied to gave some really good ideas expanding on this
this is far too much of a bizarro AU fanfiction type video as apposed to any legitimate study into how minecraft would be affected by torch burnout or even a proper hypothetical discussion on the mechanic its well written... I guess? but none of the video's contents really fit what it's trying to go about doing and it gets a little unhinged near the end

Interesting theorycrafting here!

now that we got more permanent light sources I kinda do want torches to be able to go out
I think that maybe they should add a new difficulty so it be coooler (also someone please make a mod and an add-on because i really wanna play it)
@@RefriDeUva or some kind of modifier that is separate from difficulty
@0whatman oh yeah that would be even better

i remember that original picture about the torches dying; holy shit what a relic from my memory...

Ok someone PLEASE make a mod and add-on pleeeease i really want it now
it for sure would make the game harder and i would love for them to add the rascal and mining helments

This feels like watching an alternate universe unfold 🤔👀
if logdotzip wasn't cringe
they should make it in hardcore mode

I understand using more realistic features, but it's a game. I don't think realism is fully required.
